Transk53
Hi fellow members. Those of you that have a current budget ready to go, now would be a good time to peruse the online retailers, and even direct to consumer sites as well. Now the 8th Gen Coffee Lakes are already starting to seem ubiquitous, so the retailers are now offering deals (well I checked two third party and a direct sales sites) One was pretty much slashing a hundred quid of over the ranges, and also some competitive prices on those lappies with nVidia G-Sync screens. if you want something future proofed in terms of overall performance, value for money, I would wait a little longer. If you just want a FM lappy, now would be the time to get a bargain 7th Gen machine.

Transk53
Done a cursory search and it seems to meet the minimum requirements. You would be better off with 4Gbytes of DDR4 over DDR3. What’s your budget?
Blackthorn
Hi everyone, looking for some direction. Having been out of the pc gaming world for awhile playing the touch version last 3 instalments. The kids are starting to get older and school work will most definitely arrive, I am looking to get back into the full fat version of FM since a desktop will be needed in the house. I am looking for more of an entry level pc which I could upgrade has funds permit. I have around £350 available. When I look at graphics etc. I don't know if what I am looking for is above minimum specs or below. Thanks for any help in this quest. Not any particular recommendation, but if you have a look at these as a guide. The two HP Omens at the bottom are generally good machines. HP offer a good balance between components and reliability. The first MSI machine down the list also looks attractive between the i5, Gfx and system ram. The Gigabyte Aero machines have a very good rep, although no one here. Asus machines are very good, but maybe a little higher up the budget tree. One thing I would say, try and get one that has 7200RPM hard drive rather than one at 5400. Can’t really comment on the SSD aspect at the mo because I am not sure of the relationship between them and the game. https://www.overclockers.co.uk/gaming-laptops/finder/up-to-1000-pounds
Durham Hatter
I'm looking for a laptop to run primarily English/UK based leagues. I'm not bothered about the 3D engine so graphics aren't a huge concern. I found this, which seems to have a good processor, RAM, etc but the price looks too good to be true. Transk53
@Smurf Not sure about the PC Specalist machines now. They come with a Clevo mainboard which in the past has given me no end of problems. Think for the lower end they are probably fine, but not specing decent thermal paste like artic pro or the cooler master as standard, makes me wary. Good that you pointed that out above, can’t believe they would ship out a decent CPU without it as standard. Not sure I want to part with and give over two grand to them now mind. Scan do some very good systems btw. You can partially spec them as well depending on the range.

Only clocked at 1.8Ghz, but not sure if the turbo frequency will compensate for that in game. Minimum specs do say 2.0Ghz. It will still run though, but probably quite slow. That’s the problem with laptops, and basically why I am going to have to spend big money for what I want. Really even gaming laptops can still struggle with a few games due to various different reasons. Fast enough for now is fine with a desktop and a upgrade path, but with a laptop it is bit more difficult. Hence you have to be very specific to your needs. If you want something that will play a decent avarage Frame Per Second (the games like Witcher 3/Destiny etc) in the future, you will have to part with a fair wedge of cash for a laptop at least. You may have had a good experience with an i3 - but everyone plays the game differently - some play with 5 leagues loaded and play 10 year career and restart the saved game. Some play 5 leauges and play a 100 year career. Some play 20 leauges and 5 seasons - and some play 50 leauges and 100 years. The thing is - the more leauges you load, and the longer you play the more processing power is required. And with your i3 you may have been content with the game progressing at that speed. But 5 seconds is a short time for some people and it's a long time for some people. And 20 seconds or 40 seconds the same. 11 hours ago, Durham Hatter said: I appreciate the advice. It came out in 2010 and was discontinued - so there is no support for it. Your processor is 8 years old and likely to struggle with a processor intensive game like FM. Andy1979
Would that be anygood? It's £220 on eBay refurb. But I got a job today so may wait and up my budget and get a better deal top. I would be playing fm16 to start as I have that in my steam account. I only load England Spain German Italy .
Smurf
The processor is 5 years old. Safe to say it's entering the latter stages of end of life. Defo best to up your budget. Roughly 600 would do it.
Durham Hatter
I've been offered this DELL Inspiron 7579, 17" screen for £650. Deal or no deal? https://www.amazon.co.uk/MSI-GE73-7RD-Raider-007UK-17-3-Inch/dp/B075CG9PHZ/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1524576221&sr=1-1&keywords=msi&refinements=p_n_feature_browse-bin%3A1481783031%2Cp_n_pattern_browse-bin%3A937175031%2Cp_n_feature_thirteen_browse-bin%3A8322539031%2Cp_n_feature_three_browse-bin%3A213559031%2Cp_n_feature_fifteen_browse-bin%3A8322531031 If this is no good, then I'm giving up looking. The 1050ti should allow high quality graphics in games to. Probably not going to find much better up the tech tree for you’re budget 👍

Some things just can’t be done via patch’s. I haven’t looked into this, but it could be something particular to the machine you own for example. A particular make, a particular component etc. My laptop is brand new, 2016 release I believe, dell inspiron 15 - 7000 gaming series. 2.5ghz ~ 3.5ghz turbo boost quad core 4gb Nvidia 1050 8gb ram 244gb SSD It’s a known lag issue of which SI have been investigating since November I believe. Not trying to put you off getting one, just saying you can spend £1,000 and will STILL experience the in game match engine glitching eether you play on low or high settings, they or anybody else can’t work out the problem. I love FM but it’s unplayable, I believe it’s an Nvidia thing.

It seems that there are quite a few game lockup’s on laptops and rigs running high end cards. From I have been reading there and elsewhere, it may have something to with nVidia patching security wise due to the way cards interact with Windows. All to with the Spectre issue with chips. No graphics card - you may be able to put in a graphics card - hard to tell from those specs. 13 hours ago, Transk53 said: I wouldn’t recommend a Dell to anybody. The MSI looks pretty good yeah. Get on to Nvidea web chat - they are always very helpful with me - I had an issue with LA Noire running on my i7 laptop with 8gb RAM and a high end graphics card - nothing but lag. They sent me the correct driver for the game - and never had an issue again.

Oh yes. If you want something of average quality and being competitively priced, then Dell and others will do the job and work fine.

However, a lot of people come here looking for something within a budget. Even £1000 is a bit of an ask for a high-end machine that is not custom built. That's why when looking I would look at Dell, HP, Lenovo, MSI, Asus, Acer etc. as viable solutions. Unless you're willing to spend £1500 or more, then we just have to rely on searches within sites to pull up the best. The make of the computer is almost secondary to the Specs of the machine. For FM for people, I look for the "HQ" processor, at least 8gb RAM (I prefer 16 but it's not essential), and a decent graphics card (if they want to play 3D - typically though you can't get a HQ processor without a decent graphics card anyway). It's difficult working within people's budgets - but I did have horrible experiences with HP - yet I would still recommend those laptops. Similarly, I had an issue with Vodafone in Ireland, and I would never use them again, doesn't mean it isn't the correct company for someone else to use. Dell are fine built, all our office computers are Dell - and they all work very well.

If I had the room at home, I wouldn't be bothering with a lappy, just build myself a new rig. Of course though, even one on air with a standard aftermarket HSF will still be what, 40 - 50 quid still. Anyway yes I do agree, but I hold off from absolute recommendations just in case of any comeback. Yes I have been there, "you told me this, or "you never told me it wouldn't make my breakfast" kind of thing. Our office have got Dells as well, with the case on and working, with the case off and not working, a proverbial pain in the wotsit. So I can only go so far with "The make of the computer is almost secondary to the Specs of the machine."
Smurf
Yes, I agree. I will give absolute recommendations though, as far as what's the best they can get for the budget they have. It's been so good so far, kinda thing. I don't recall a single person coming back with a complaint (touch wood) All I try to do is steer them away from the processors not up to the task of FM, and within their budget. I only hold off on the recommendation if there's nothing good enough within their specified budget.

Yes looks like a good machine and 8 gigs should be fine. A 1050ti is a bit souped up, but a 1060 would be more desirable with nearly half more stream processors, the things that make it go zoom. Asus are fine built machines, but being reconditioned I would check on what warranty they are giving and more importantly, what support the retailer gives you if something goes wrong IMHO. I have purchased from them before and it has worked well. I guess this one is the better option despite a slightly older chip: http://www.elgreen.se/sv/rekonditionerade-asus/asus-rog-strix-gl502vm-fy022t.html
Transk53
Hey @Smurf After many many months of saving, I have reached a budget of two grand. Can I just ask what you would spec? Now a 4K screen desirable, but a 120 – 144Hrz with G-Sync would be good enough at native 1920 x 1080 res on a 17’3 screen. Coffee Lake is a must for Intel, but not necessarily a i7 (if being used in laptops at the moment) 1 – 2 TB7200rpm drive and a 250GB SSD. 32GB of paired sticks of DRAM. Not sure if that will cause memory bleeding though, but want to go above 16, although not totally necessarily. What do you reckon? I have been looking at the Ryzen 2, but only a handful of machines if that available. This machine looks really nice, but of course as usual a sacrifice has been made. In this case I think with the 16GB of ram. https://www.overclockers.co.uk/asus-rog-nvidia-gtx-1070-8gb-gddr5-17.3-fhd-144hz-g-sync-i7-8750h-gaming-laptop-gl703gs-e5011t-lt-254-as.html

It is sharing a portion of the system ram. In itself not a huge issue, but I veer away from that because systems can slow down. Best to keep graphics with its own dedicated memory. Out of the two the first one is the best in this case.
