Elliott Rogers is fast becoming the latest on the conveyor belt of quality central defenders at Whitehawk. Burden's goals are amazing but I would say he gets nowhere near the quality of the defenders: over his career he is only just averaging more than a goal every two games. I think you can probably add Magliano, Higgins, Low and Burden to that list. Possibly Lanna too although I doubt that now. I've also missed out on European football next year which is a shame - a few Europa League runs have helped in the last couple of years. I'll have to focus heavily on the domestic cups this year to ensure plenty of games. My current first XI (so excluding Aguerre, who is not a first team player any longer) currently has 4,016 appearances to their name, an average of 365 each, and they're projected (at their current rate of progress) to secure an average of 966 by their earliest likely retirement age of 36. I think almost all of them have a chance of getting it, although Clark and Schettino are looking like long shots, and Aguerre is not currently first team and if it stays that way for more than one more season it'll make it impossible, I reckon. If I can find a top class attacking MC, then both he and Schettino will bite the dust so I can get another one in. If Walsh retires at 36 he has no chance of getting 1,000 - but as a goalkeeper, I think he'll be good until at least 38 (which would give him a decent chance although by no means a huge one) and maybe 40 (which would most it almost a certainty). I'll be moving to FM16 at some point - although it may be Christmas before I have time to do so. I'm already doing my scouting through youtube to get to grips with how to do well in the game. On the back of seeing the screenshots for the prozone features, my interest has suddenly shot up. I think this might mean I can be a bit more tactical myself (in recent years it has become a bit too "know how to play the game" rather than "know about football" for my liking and I've been using plug and play tactics. I will be buying the game, I think, although I won't be pre-ordering with beta access because it's cheaper to get it pre-order without it currently and I'm not in any hurry, I'd rather wait until the game is relatively bug-free. The second decision is that, given that I'll be more tactical, I can get more enjoyment out of this side rather than the "building a club up" aspect that I usually love (this save, many Arsenal ones and the Moron youth save from a few years back). So what I intend is this: A journeyman save where I move on whenever it takes my fancy. I haven't decided whether I want to start as a Sunday League player for realism or whether I'd rather go for a bigger club first to get myself used to the tactical engine etc. I'll decide that nearer the time (suggestions welcome). Each club, I'll be setting myself different goals. At some, I might decide to be youth-only. At others, I might look to buy the best players in the world. It will vary. The only overall goal I will have is one I've been trying to do for a while: to attempt to get a new team into the World Cup. I've always had a soft spot for Guatemala (I knew someone from there once!), so that will be my nationality and wherever I go, I'll look to bring in some Guats. I'll start off with just a few leagues (currently thinking Spain and England plus maybe one other - U.S.A. and Mexico both high on my list due to geographical link with Guatemala). Because the overarching goal will be to do with developing Guatemala, I might jump up and down a bit. If my reputation is increased because I have managed a top team, I might look for a team with one or two Guatemalans already in the side and go there, or I might simply look for a club with the level of reputation which means that Guatemala's best players would be both good players for the club and affordable. Obviously to start with this probably means working in North America somewhere, which I might be open to although my instinct is to try to get a big job first up (hence the idea that I might start as a legendary player). I will go with the Guatemala thing - and this will be the overriding concern at all times. I'll only manage at clubs where scouting Guatemala is possible, I think (is there any way to check this?). Although if it turns out that's only clubs where Guatemalans would be out of their depth, I might change that policy. I'll obviously aim to increase my own standing in the game as that will increase that of Guatemala - but I'll also move down leagues if and when necessary to work with Guatemalans. If a job comes up where there are several players, I'll definitely go for it, even if I'm managing Arsenal. Obviously I'll take the Guatemala job whenever it's possible to do so. One question for you - what reputation should I start with? Part of me thinks if I start with nothing at all, I'll have very little choice, and a history as an international footballer will give Guatemala a small headstart....any thoughts? Burden is our leading scorer in our history and also has played more games than anyone else. He's also played just 27 matches in all competitions for anyone else - loan spells at Luton and Sheff Utd having generated at Whitehawk. However, it is also true to say that he is far from the most prolific striker we have had in terms of minutes per goal. Not sure who that would be but I would guess at Victor Hugo Rocchiccioli (another literary name there of course!). Or maybe Manel Lao, at least when he played up front. Defenders have dominated this save: from Finney, Judge and Tsakiridis though the two Scandis, Hermannson and Rasmussen (two of those had stadia named after them), and then on to Terni and Matamala and beyond that, Lannna, Clark and Rogers. In some ways, that makes Burden and the other non-defenders even more impressive. Simpson is out there on his own in terms of quality - he won the Ballon D'Or twice, and will go down as the best Aussie ever and one of the best players of all time. His Whitehawk career spanned 15 years, and he would probably be my second choice if left to my own devices, although Alex Finney was top class in the early days, too. The historical XI reads: Walsh Clark Terni Lanna Ermes Ghodhbane Aguerre Vermeulen Simpson Burden Fenton-Goss Subs: Cheadle, Finney, Sambou, Hewitt, Magliano, Judge and Miller (a serious anomaly). He will be Guatemalan and unfortunately none of my players have been (the big ones), so I'm not going to make it about nationality but if we're only including full internationals, then about ten of them need to be cut out. Not going to check which now but I'm sure you can work most of them out. I agree Freek Vermeulen is about the best name but he has been around while I've not been playing the games and I don't really feel that much of an attachment to him, I don't think. I know you can now add leagues where needed but I'd like to avoid doing that too much, as it changes the world rather. I'll do the full pyramid in each nation to give me the biggest range of standards. I was thinking (in decreasing order of importance to my game - I will need a bit of a mix of standards, and assuming no new leagues have been added since FM15): Mexico USA England Brazil Spain Argentina India (could probably cut off here and replace countries as I leave them, perhaps? So manage in India, then move on and replace it with something like Peru?) Germany Italy France Scotland Colombia Chile Peru Uruguay I'll obviously load all Guatemalan players too. I tested this setup with FM15 and the speed seemed just about OK, but that's right at the start, so I might jettison a few. Open to suggestions? Currently have the following leagues loaded and from the start it seems to work well: Belize Costa Rica El Salvador Guatemala Haiti Honduras Jamaica Mexico Nicaragua Panama Trinidad & Tobago USA England Italy Spain It's FM15 so not updating this but I have taken a job in Guatemala. I'm trying to work out my strategy - do I start in Guatemala or a bigger league to build up my own reputation first? Leaning towards the latter but want to explore Guatemala a bit. He's still going but I doubt he'll get that now.
