Could you not just keep the thread title really simple? Miles better than all these other stupid thread titles from all the other club threads?

"The Manchester United Thread - 07/08"

I'm obviously missing something.

Alan Smith, the Manchester United forward, last night sparked what is likely to be a scramble for his signature by expressing anxiety about his future at Old Trafford. The 26-year-old, who is attracting interest from Tottenham Hotspur among numerous other clubs, is upset at United’s apparent unwillingness to offer him a new contract and has also expressed concern about a lack of communication from Sir Alex Ferguson.

“If they [united] are going to sell me, I would like to know,†Smith said. “But I won’t find out unless I speak to the manager. If you’re no longer wanted, then you have to consider your options. If the manager tells me he wants me, I’m there for him. If he says he doesn’t, it’s time to move on.â€

Smith started only six Barclays Premiership matches last season, after a difficult recovery from a broken leg, and has two years remaining on his contract with United. He believes he was promised a new contract last summer on the condition that he proved his fitness, but with no indication from David Gill, the chief executive, that such an offer is in the pipeline, it seems likely that the forward will move elsewhere.

Tbh I wouldn't be too bothered with smith leaving if some one else comes in. I know everyone likes him due to his hard work and fighting spirit but he's just not a natural striker and never seems to know where to be.

I know he has a fairly respectable goalscoring record when he has played up front for united but its just like having a Heinze up front icon_frown.gif lol
