The Life and times of a New Zealand Manager in Obscure European Football

The Premise

I will be starting unemployed with Sunday League experience, and looking to manage in places I have wanted to manage in before, but either not really done it or been there and had some fun, but not for long enough. I have started with Finland, Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Romania, Hungary, Austria & Ukraine loaded as playable, and the top leagues of England, Spain, Germany, Italy, France, Holland, Portugal loaded as view only. I have no real aim, just to see where I can get to and hope to manage in one of the top levels with some success. I may add leagues later on if I decide on other destinations I would like to manage in, but for now I will stick to what I have.

The Beginning

Well having previously started unemployed and easily found work I thought this would be no issue, so I applied for every single job available, and got exactly ZERO interviews, well that was a lot worse than I imagined. So continuing on I started applying for every job that became available, I got three interviews, the first rejected me because I wanted slightly higher wage budget, the club was currently spending more than they were offering me, the second club chose someone else, and then the third club accepted my application and offered me the job.

My First Assignment

Club Wiki

I was pretty pleased to just get a job, and this looked like a nice little club to sink my teeth into. It was the middle of the season, they were on a short unbeaten streak, no idea why their previous manager was sacked, they had a pretty strong spine to the team (weak at fullback and the wings), and were sitting in midtable with a aim to be top half at the end of the season. This looked like something I should be able to manage. So off we went.

A Fresh Start

League Standings

Table B4.png

Core Players

Players.png

So I took over a reasonably stable looking club, but they were lacking in fullbacks, and also a little on the wings and in net. Looking around I was going to find it tough to replace them before the transfer window closed, but I would do my best.

Signings

Kristoffer Nielson (GK) - Only played a few games but was the best of the non-contract Goalies I signed to help in the season.

Svein Kare Hjertvik (DRL) - Best as a left back, and managed 9 appearances for the side in my games in charge, not good enough really, but best we could get at short notice.

How'd it Go?

The question on everyone's lips is how did we go, did I manage to hold on to 7th spot, and a top half finish, were we good enough. First issue I had was the side had no chance of fitting my preferred line-up of 4-5-1 so I was going to have to improvise, and that resulted in a lopsided 4-4-2 with an advanced inside forward on the left hand wing. I was not looking forward to how it would play, but had to give it a shot. The results speak for themselves as we started well and then faded later in my time in charge.

Results

Games.png

Started with a hiss and a roar as we scored 13 goals in my first two games in charge, but we only managed 12 more in the following 10 games and as a result we didn't make the target of Top Half as we went on to finish in 9th.

Table

Table After.png

So my offseason will see a large number of new signings as I hope to bolster the side, and hopefully not be too far over the slightly reduced wage budget I have been given, though there might be some good news as the owner of the club appears to be open to offers, so I could see a new owner taking over.

Preseason Signings Update

Jan 2nd 2014

The Signings

I made a lot of noise leading up to the season changeover, and it shows as there ten new signings in the squad, four of them are current projected starters and the other six make up a large part of my bench. Of course in making the signings I have pushed myself over my wage budget, by about a thousand euros, but the board can just deal with that.

Erlend Kasin (MC) - He is currently listed as a bench player, but could make a run at the advanced playmaker role in the pre-season

Martin Overik (DR) - My new starting right back, looks like very good signing for this level.

Oyvind Svenning (DL) - Probably a back-up, but he could get into the starting line-up.

Jorn Hagen (DL) - Currently the starting left back, he is pretty good at getting forward, that'll be how I use him.

Stian Tunge (AML) - This signing happened early on, not sure how much he will make it into the squad.

Marius Brevig (DR) - A stunning little back-up, pleased to get him on board as well.

Morten Eriksen (ST) - Will provide some real experience upfront, hopefully getting the goals.

Hakon Stenersen (DM) - A signing that will make my move to 4-5-1 a lot easier as it means Furdal can play at MC instead.

Helge Sandvik (GK) - He will be my number 1 back-up for this season.

Christian Bjerke (GK) - Another Goalie signing, really tough to get a top class one, now have three about equal quality.

Jan Trygve Haraldseid (DM) - Signed as DM cover to help stock up my midfield, a position I was short on cover for last season.

Expected Starting Line-up

Line-up.png

From Here

I still think we need help at AML, Hellesund is a striker, while capable there I would rather see a specialist. Goalie is a worry, but I can't find anyone who is willing to sign for us who is better than our current keeper. And he did only concede 21 goals in his 16 appearances for the club (6 Clean Sheets). Depth wise another right wing might be useful, other than that look to find ample replacements for the guys over thirty before the end of the season, and try and re-sign the bulk of these guys if it looks like we are still going to be in this division.

So now I have caught up with my quick first season, I will be giving better updates going forwards, the first will be at the end of the preseason.

End of Preseason Update

Apr 4th 2014

The Signings

I made several more additional signings since January, mostly trying to make that all important step up on the wings, as it was a position I still thought needed help, of course this was before I started my friendlies.

Geir Andre Rasmussen (AML) - He has a future around the club, it's just not immediate.

Einar Albertsen (AML) - A youngster with potential, only reason he got signed.

Nick Rios Haugen (AMR) - This guy was signed to start on the right wing, looked a step up on Maroy.

Jan Erik Larsen (AMR) - Another youngster, this time for the other side.

Hakon Koller (DM) - A youngster who could be the future at DM, look forward to seeing if he can get into it.

Alla Abdallah (AMR) - Not everyday you can sign a Palestinian, cover for the right wing.

The Friendlies

I signed up a bunch of nobody teams to play against (A couple were actually favourites against us), but it was all about getting the team warmed up and seeing who would do the best job for me.

Fixtures.png

It took us a little while to get going with all the changes, players, tactics and all the rest. A move to an attacking 4-5-1 (DM) with several new players seemed to be an issue early on, but in the end the players started to click together, it did take a few changes to my expected starting XI, Furdal ended up leaving as he had a cry about wanting a bigger team. Overvik was outperformed by his back-up, as was Maldal, the front three ended up different as well as three younger players stepped in and did really well.

Expected Starting Line-up

These guys all showed me what I expected in the pre-season, I was most surprised by the pairing in the midfield, I was 99% sure that Maldal & Furdal would be the best here, but Maldal spent a little time injured and these two stepped in and did a vastly superior job.

From Here & Other News

Now is the start of the season, looking forward to challenge towards the top half this season, I would hope with the squad I now have that I can get in the top 5 this season. THere was a takeover attempt during the offseason, but it fell through. We did nearly lose a transfer because of it, but in the end the player came anyway. With odds set at 10-1 we are the 6th favourite of the teams in the division this season, so I need to try and better that.

We also saw Lid Kleppe named Fans Player of the Year, and our Best XI announced.

April/May Update

June 1st 2014

The League

Fixtures

Fixtures.png

After the Egersund game, I was a little concerned as we dropped to 12th, but didn't think we were that far off turning it around. The board were so concerned they called a meeting and told me if I didn't turn it around then I would get the sack. This had me worried, though had a cup game before the match away to Os, we went down 2-0 in that game and I thought the end of my first club was here, but the boys really stepped it up from halftime and we turned a certain loss into a massive win within 20 mins of the restart. Two straight wins to round out May had me pumped as the club made the move right back into contention as we jumped to third.

Table

League.png

I am very happy to be up in the top of the league at this point, hopefully this helps to make my job a bit safer.

The Cup

With the first three rounds of the cup in play it made it a very tight schedule during the early part of the league. Our first match saw Elverum come to town, they are a fellow 2nd division side, and I was looking forward to being able to defeat them.

1st Round

Nest-Sotra vs Elverum 1:0

Haugen (27)

Just a single goal in this game from Haugen, but it was enough to get us home and into the 2nd round, achieving the boards expectations. Was a little worried though as we drew Bryne (A 1st Division side) in the second round.

2nd Round

Nest-Sotra vs Bryne 3:1

Albertsen (35), Naess (45+1), Haugen (pen 52)

Well this game was a surprise, they scored first after 17 minutes, and gave me a bit of a worry. THough we had been the better team in the first twenty minutes and proved that before half time as we equalised and then scored the go ahead goal. A consolation goal saw us into the third round where we would meet Molde (Prem Division), one of the best teams in Norway. I was looking forward to the gate takings at home though.

3rd Round

Nest-Sotra vs Molde 0:1

Well the expected result in the end I guess, but I was very pleased to actually keep this match tight and in the end we only conceded one goal. Very happy with this result against such a big team. Over 3000 fans turned up to see this match, and they saw some really great football, our biggest crowd by a LONG way.

From Here & Other News

Well I am hoping to keep up recent form and keep pushing towards those top two teams, not going to mess with my current starting XI as they are really working together well, this means Maldal, Naess, Tunge & Eriksen will be surprisingly on the bench still for a little while at least.

Season ticket sales ended up at a mere 51, and that seems to be the core of our attendance, we need to build on it. It appears there is a consortium looking to come in and takeover once again, there is an embargo in place, and supposedly the "new" manager came for a look as well. So speculation is that even though the team has improved the sack is still sitting over my head.

June/July Update

August 1st 2014

The League

Fixtures

Fixtures.png

We headed into this series of games looking pretty good, and we ended up carrying some good form with big wins in early June, we slipped up at home to Vard, but a pair wins over Floy & Viking 2 saw us actually jump to the top of the table by the midpoint of the season which was better than even I could imagine.

Table

League.png

It is pretty tight with only 8pts separating us from 11th, the three teams at the bottom look likely to be the ones who get relegated, while the promotion fight could see anyone of the top 8 or so teams promoted. If I can keep up the form from the last little while then we are a shout to be in the race for the title.

From here it is to keep it up, bring on the rest of the season.

The takeover was completed, and I managed to survive as the Chairman decided that I was doing well enough to remain, they got a loan to clear our debt. The new chairman is Josko Svagusa, not sure if it is the same guy who used to run Split in Croatia.

Just stumbled across this career game mate. good luck with it. solid looking start so far.

Thanks Rlips, enjoying it. Nice to have something different for a change.

Good luck mate. Any plans to take on Phoenix and try and win world club championship?:)

Not sure I will head to the Phoenix, but might try and take over the All Whites and win a World Cup in the future, quite keen to keep my club career in Europe, will see how it develops though.

Aug/Sept Update

October 1st 2014

The League

Fixtures

Well those losses to Arendal & Asane were painful, as the result was losing first in the league, and us dropping to end the 2 month period behind Asane by a single point in second. Was pretty happy with the 4 wins, especially the recent run of games that is keeping us in the hunt.

Table

Table.png

With just four games remaining in the season, we sit 1pt behind, we have avoided relegation, but the rest of the teams are still right behind us. With only 6pts separating 1st and 6th it is anyone's to win. We need to keep on winning or we're done.

Good luck with this save! Winning the World Cup with New Zealand is a lofty ambition, hope you go some way to achieving your club and national goals :)

It'd be a dream more than an ambition, probably hugely unrealistic, but it's something to work at :p

First is to build a reputation in the european leagues.

My Quick Final Day Update

So the final day of the season comes and there is a three-way fight for the single promotion spot. We lost away to Vard, which meant we dropped to third, could've seen us out of the race, but Asane also slipped up meaning any of us could take it on the last day.

Table

Team Pts GD GF
Asane 48 +19 47
Vard 47 +14 49
Nest-Sotra 46 +18 44

Fixtures

Viking 2 (12th) vs Nest-Sotra (3rd)

Vard (2nd) vs Vidar (4th)

Vindjbart (8th) vs Asane (1st)

So while we have the easiest final game, we need to win, and have both lose (Vard can draw), if Asane gets a draw we need to win by 2 goals, and hope Vard don't win. Is going to be a massive final day.

The Final Day LIVE!

This is also my first match with the new patch.

1' Simen Naess scores in the first minute and we lead 1-0, move up to 2nd

24' Little action, though we powered a lot of shots at goal, in the 24th minute Kasin gets free and fires home for 2-0 & as neither of the others have scored we move top of the table 1st.

27' Vard's defender scores an own goal, and they are down 0-1, dropping back in the race. Nest-Sotra still 1st.

28' Hoyland breaks down the right, ball to his feet and slammed home 3-0, and we extend our goal difference, now with the same number of goals as Asane. 1st

32' Langerud scores for Vindjbart and Asane are also down 0-1, Nest-Sotra 49, Asane 48 & Vard 47 at this stage. 1st

39' OMG and Langerud has a double as Vindjbart extend their lead to 0-2, Nest-Sotra looking comfortable, both opposition now need 2 goals to change the table. 1st

45+1' And Asane are playing themselves out of it as they allow Aase in for a goal, and it's 0-3, Asane would need to score 4 goals now.

Half Time

What a first half, pretty much everything I could've hoped for as we leapt to a great start, and the both opposition teams fell behind.

47' Iverson scores for Vidar to give them a 2-0 lead over Vard

54' Johannsen scores for Vindjbart and that's 4-0 now, a terrible game from Asane, with Vard needing 3 goals, Asane needing 5, or 3 from Viking this is looking good.

56' Berg scores for Asane for 1-4.

57' Petric breaks through and scores for Viking 3-1 now, Asane still need 4 goals, but the race is closer now.

59' Gimre scores for Asane 2-4, he will be joining us at the end of the season, but for now is in the promotion battle.

61' Kanu gets anoth goal for Vidar as they move to 3-0 and look to be putting Vidar out of the race. Though with 13 goals in these three games who knows.

69' Eide steps through and scores for Vindjabart, makes their game 5-2, and another bit of assistance for our title hunt on this crazy final day.

78' Asane are really fighting for their title here, believe they have earned it as Lepold steps in and scores 5-3, but that is still 3 goals short of 1st.

79' OMG this is getting real, Kasin with a ludicrous shot from 30yds hits the top of the net GOAL!!! 4-1 and we put it back above the 2 goal cushion.

90+1' And a great through ball from Hoyland sees Naess free on the goal, and it looks like the end of the game will be a reverse of the start GOAL! and it's 5-1

Fulltime

And there goes the whistle, and in the craziest final day I have ever participated in Nest-Sotra have scrambled from 3rd to 1st to win the league and gain promotion. I can't put into words how shocked I am right now. After the loss to Vard I had written off the title, and had raided Asane for 3 new signings, am now worried that we are being promoted and my team might not be good enough to stay up. BUT WOW what a season, absolutely delighted to have been promoted in this one.

In the News

As it was my first full season I went all out to sign the players I needed to progress, I was a little worried about the quality in a couple of positions, but it turns out those signings were alright. Financially I spent a lot of time above my wage budget, which is hopefully a situation that improves in the new season. A large part of that would be because I made sure my players were signed to contracts as I didn't want to lose my best players. In the middle of the season we had a takeover, there was no additional money given to the club, but a loan was taken out to cover previous debt meaning we have repayments to make every month. Since that loan we have lost nearly another 200k, and are heading back to financial trouble. The contract extension I was given will help make my job safe, though I know avoiding relegation is a must in the new season if I want to keep my job for another year. We have also seen the club need to "expand" the ground to compete in the first division, so we will be seeing our terrace turned to seats. Until it is completed we will be sharing with Brann in a 17000 seat stadium.

The League

In the end it was a tight run thing, but it was great to come out as Champions, and the Board, Fans & Players were all delighted with the result. It was a bit of an up and down season, the worst being two losses to Vard & two losses to Asane, those results nearly saw us miss the promotion, but in the end they both slipped up and let us through. We managed to score 5 goals on 3 occasions and only conceded more than 1 goal in 5 games all season, a massive defensive effort that gave us a lot better result than expected. 27 goals conceded in 26 league games shows our defence was very strong, while we also managed to score 49 goals (Almost up to my 2GPG target).

The Cup

The target of the board was to win one game, and make the second round. I hoped that was achievable as we faced up against Elverum in the first round, another second division club. A single goal from Haugen saw us through and achieving the target, next up we were drawn at home to Bryne (1st Div), they went on to win promotion from the first division this season, but we managed to defeat them 3-1 after a great period each side of half time. That victory was huge for my boys, and they were a bit gutted to then be drawn against Molde, the current top dog in Norway, between them and Rosenburg they have won 20 of the last 23 titles. It took them 32 minutes to get the breakthrough and at that point I thought the floodgates would open, but they never did and the longer we held on the more frustrated they got. In the end I was delighted to finish the game 1-0 and be knocked out by Molde.

The Current Squad

Goalkeepers

33. Martin Sanchez Olsen - I had been worried about him at the start of the season, but he stepped up and fought off his challengers and never looked back conceding only 29 goals in 29 games with 9 clean sheets.

Defenders

61. Martin Overvik (DRC) - Another player I thought would be a bench player this season, but he outperformed Brevig and took the starters role, throughout the season he was one of our stars, definitely a major factor in us making it to promotion.

62. Marius Brevig (DR) - I thought he would be the starter, but he had a disappointing start to the season and ended up losing the role, ended up being a bit average, should still be around in 2015 though.

3. Gojko Ivkovic (DC) - A huge presence in the back line for Nest-Sotra throughout the season, I never worried when he was in the team.

4. Thomas Lid Kleppe (DC) - The old hand was incredible, between him and Ivkovic they provided the best centre back pairing in the league.

26. Oyvind Svenning (DLC) - The 34yr old was expected to become the back-up this season, in the end he took the job back from Hagen really early on and held onto it as well.

16. Jorn Hagen (DL) - I thought he would be the player to watch in our back line, but just didn't seem up to it.

15. Christain Skage (DC)

Midfielders

6. Hakon Stenersen (DM) - His numbers don't look as good s some others, but the work he did protecting the back four was huge.

20. Ruben Hetlevik (MC) - Our captain had a fantastic season, was great to see him step up and get going after bench time last season.

19. Erlend Kasin (MC) - He looked to be lacking according to our coaches, but as an advanced playmaker he did an incredible job, with 6 goals and 7 assists he was a greeat influence.

91. Nick Rios Haugen (AMR) - A great addition for the wing, he will have a battle on his hands in the offseason though.

92. Einar Albertsen (AML) - The youngster surprised everyone, ending up with 4 goals and 8 assists to lead the team down the left.

22. Bjarne Langeland (MC)

??. Hakon Koller (DM)

93. Jan Erik Larsen (AMR)

??. Martin Rynning (MC)

8. Jan Trygve Haraldseid (DM)

??. Peter Hunstad (MC)

12. Geir Andre Rasmussen (AML)

13. Geir Dahle Hoyland (AMR)

Strikers

1. Simen Naess (ST) - The senior striker led the team, some great goals, we were definitely better when he was in the side.

Wow, what a final day! I got promoted with Nest-Sotra in FM13 and nearly blew it with a terrible finish to the season so faced a similarly tense final day for slightly different reasons watching on results elsewhere deciding our fate, not always looking favourable though they were by the final whistle. We were badly out of our depth in the First Division so hopefully you can do better.

Was incredible, so happy to see a season end like that, really hoping we aren't out of our depth too badly. Most of the squad dropped half a star rating upon promotion, the biggest issue appears to be players not wanting to sign for us.

I managed to poach from the teams I left behind in the second division, but the 3 four-five star guys I targetted all said no.

End of Preseason Update

Apr 1st 2015

The Signings

My main aim was to strengthen my fullbacks, it took me a while to do that, and as I did I actually ended up signing starters for 8 total positions only leaving Ivkovic, Hetvelik, and Hoyland in starting positions from last season. Overall it looks to have been a successful series of improvements to the starting line-up and hopefully is the right team to take us forward.

Marcin Brzykcy (DRL) - Can cover both FBs, is a signing from the Asane team I beat to the title last year.

Tommy Gaustad (ST) - Excellent signing, was an absolute star for Asane, and has looked awesome in the preseason, but injured for 5 weeks, 10 goals in 12 friendlies.

Roger Gimre (MC) - The final Asane signing, regressed a little, and has been passed by better signings

Vegard Mathisen (AML) - Youngster who is the best elft winger I can find.

Bjorn-Otto Willassen (DR) - Some cover at right fullback.

Scott Fellows (DR) - Another piece of cover.

Trond Breivik (DR) - I signed a lot of fullbacks hoping for something special

Eivind Daniel Roed (DC) - This is one of my favourite signings of the Offseason, will slot straight into centre back and probably help us up the table.

Fredrik Deilkas (MC) - This guy will be our advanced playmaker, a step up from Kasin and he has had a good preseason, look to him to provide the goals.

Leif Lysne (GK) - A vast improvement at the back, he is better than our previous keepers and should be able to help our defense out a lot more.

Harald Vindenes (DM) - A replacement for the defensive midfield, actually a surprise signing as I didn't expect to try and improve this position.

Sander Bjorna (DL) - A new starter at left back, it took me a long time to find him, but in the end this signing fulfilled all the boxes.

Erland Skaga (DR) - And our new Right back, also took a lot to find a top class right back, but I think this is it for now.

Trond Viggo Svendsen (AMR) - A future star

Pal Kristian Flo (AMR) - Another possibility for the future.

I did really make the first three signinds when I thought we were going to finish 2nd/3rd and have to be fighting for promotion again, so didnt expect they'd be good enough once we got the step up.

The Friendlies

Fixtures.png

I really enjoyed that preseason, played a lot of matches against some weak opposition, had a game against the tougher Stabaek, but then all of a sudden lost our form following that game, and from then til the end of the preseason the players wouldn't listen to my team talks and just ignored me. A bit worried about morale even with the results we achieved. Not sure what to do to improve the morale, but will look into it before the season opener.

Expected Starting Line-up

         Lysne
Skaga Roed Ivkovic Bjorna
       Vindenes
    Hetlevik Deilkas
Hoyland Mathisen
       Gaustad*

Very gutted to have Gaustad injured for 5 weeks at the start of the season, but overall the club looks in a better position going into 2015 than they did last year. Looking forward to this season.

From Here & Other News

Looking forward to the first season in the Adeccoligaen, I think the team is good enough for mid table, but I think it will still be a battle to stay here and hopefully we can do what we need to. Pretty disappointed to have lost Gaustad for the start of the season, he is going to be a good asset for the side and with Naess unhappy with me I really need Gaustad to step back in. A solid 255k for TV Rights for this season will help the balance book a little bit. The odds at the bookie have us set for relegation, and not really surprised. Another small sponsorship deal will also help out.

April/May Update

Jun 1st 2015

The League

Fixtures

Fixtures.png

11 matches with just a single win is a bit horrible. The huge jump in attendance for Brann game is because we are sharing their stadium. Our defence has been acceptable, but we seem unable to score with just 6 goals scored in that time is scary. 3 nil all draws is insane, we need to now start to turn this around or we are going to be relegated without ever challenging for survival.

Table

Table.png

We've got a 4pt gap to safety, not sure that will be easy to make up the difference as we are currently playing. We have Mjondalen up next and finish the first half with Baerum, Strommen & Alta, we need to get two wins and about 7pts out of these games I feel, or it'll be over at midseason. Such a huge step up in quality at this level.

The Cup

Cup.png

Results here are excellent given our league form, but this has been against three very much lower teams, we have a stuff up now with Honefoss being a much bigger team, hopefully we can get a result, might be something to assist in keeping my job.

The Players

Player of the Period: Leif Lysne (GK) - Been a star so far this season, conceding only 13 goals in 14 matches. WOW!

New Beginnings Update

July 7th 2015

The Club

Full Name: FC Sportul Studentesc Bucuresti

Nickname: Gașca nebună (The Crazy Gang)

Year Founded: 1916

Stadium: Stadionul Regie (12,000 - All Seater)

Status: Professional

In real life the club was relegated at the end of the 2013/14 season, FM followed this path and they are newly promoted into the playable Liga II for this season. One of the oldest clubs in Romania they have history at the top level including a Balkans Cup, they have never won the domestic league, coming runners-up to Steaua Bucuresti in 85/86. Since 1989 and the fall of communism they have struggled to stay afloat and have always been a yoyo club between the top two divisions. Into this world I step hoping to get them back near the top of Romanian Football.

History.png

Not a huge history, but great youth facilities and some awesome rivalries. A Definite place for me to build on.

The Directions

Media Predicts: 5th

Board Expects: Respectable League Position

My Expectations: Promotion Playoffs (Top 6)

Transfer Budget: €240k

Wage Budget: €15,417 p/w

Current Wages: €7,444 p/w

Club Finances

Finances.png

Club is in a pretty good situation financially, especially for this level. A lot of space under the wage budget, and a reasonable transfer budget should see me able to pick up the needed players for a challenge at the Promotion Stage.

First thing first is to hire some staff, the club has a chairman and myself, so I need to get an entire new team into fill the back room, starting with an Asst Manager to help me judge the players.

Early Preseason Update

August 1st 2015

Signings

Transfers.png

My Signings

Martin Jicha (GK) - My first signing ended up being a new keeper, I feel this guy is good enough for this level, and could play higher as well.

Alexandru Sorian (AMRL) - Currently our starting Left wing, will be in a battle for right wing if I can find a left winger, but it's tough out there.

Yu Yong-Lee (MC) - This North Korean will play an important part in our line-up.

Andrei Voican (ST) - Will have a preseason battle against Hermiliano for the starting role. Looks pretty good though.

Hermiliano (ST) - A foreign signing (Non-EU), it is tougher for him to make the line-up, but will get a shot in preseason.

Adrian Grigoruta (AMR) - My starting right winger, but knows Sorian could be in a fight for this spot if a left winger appears. (Can't get a screenshot for some reason?)

Gabriel Velcovici (DL) - A strong veteran left back, lookng for him to assist at the back.

Andrei Nicu (DC) - I only had youth centre backs, so I signed a good veteran pairing.

Ionut Fasie (DC) - Same as with Nitu, signed to get some experience at the back.

Sebastian Ghinga (DM) - The experienced Defensive Mid I needed, he will start my attacks and kill the oppositions ones.

Viorel Negrita (DM) - A youngster with a great future, a massive chance to learn from Ghinga.

The Squad

As it stands I have made some strengthening moves, in particular up front, on the wings and at Goalie, I need to work on a better defensive midfielder, especially with the current injury situation.

Squad.png

We have to have 2 U21s in the First XI, so Antonescu & Mares are set in their positions unless I get another great U21 into the team. Reasonably happy with the team I have put together at this pont, still weak if our starters go down, I also have ten guys outside this 23 who I need to get rid of, I am trying sell them, but will release players if it comes down to it.

Not looking for more signings here, now working on tactics and teamwork so I can get this lot working together.

Preseason Update

September 1st 2015

The Signings

Ionut Vina (AML) - Signed on Loan, he is likely to be the back-up as I paid for his club mate.

Ionut Mitrita (AML) - I spent €90k on this signing, but I feel it was money well spent and he should be one of our stars for the season.

Makhach Gadjimuradov (DC) - A young Russian, came to us on loan from our parent club, will slip straight into the backline.

I think there is a screenshotting issue, I cant get screenshots of either Ionut there. This is the 2nd & 3rd time certain players have been unable to be screenshotted, could it be to do with their names, and hence the file naming convention.

Another piece of action saw me selling a transfer clause for €766k, it meant a large boost to my transfer budget which I used to increase my wage budget above my current wage spend to remove that issue from the board's confidence. I still have over €300k to spend if I see someone on the market I need.

Transfer Clause.png

The Friendlies

Fixtures.png

Well that didn't really go as planned, the boys are still learning my tactic, so I need to be gentle for the first half of the season. Hopefully they will pick it up quick enough to ensure our top half finish.

Expected Starting Line-up

                Jicha
Antonescu Fasie Gadjimuradov Velcovici
               Ghinga
          Yong-Lee Mares
Sorian Mitrita
               Voican

This is my planned line-up, but with internationals in the first week of September we will need to find a few players to fill in for those on international duty, including Yong-Lee off to the North Korean side.

From Here & Other News

There was a preview of our team for the season:

Sept/Oct Update

November 1st 2015

The Signings

Kamil Wrotny (DC) - My first attempt to plug the DC problems I was having, he will start for now, may change in Jan.

Moi (DL) - My new left back, an improvement on the last one and has helped solidify the backline.

Botund Antal (GK) - One other way to fix defense, when I lose a GK to injury it became huge, new signing will be excellent.

Mateusz Zawal (DM) - A new defensive mid added some solid play in front of the defense, hoping it pays off.

Edoardo Gariglio (DC) - The new Defensive lynchpin, hopefully can do the job

As you can see I made a surprising number of signings after the window closed, in the end if was a huge surprise to me as well, but it got so bad that I had to as I was close to losing my job with the form we were in.

Joining January

Przemyslaw Laskowski (DC) - I had trouble with defense early on, so started chasing good defenders, this one is solid, but will fight for a role come January

The League

Fixtures

Fixtures.png

Wow what a horrible start, with 6 losses in our first 9 games we are in serious trouble of facing relegation. After we lost on October 24th the Board told me that was my last chance, luckily my team had finally started to gel, and the new signings paid off and we took an excellent 3-0 victory in the third game. Both draws we had been the dominant team, and the last two losses we were on top, but stuffed it up to lose. Hoping to be able to keep building on our last win and get the boys amped to winning some more.

Table

Table.png

There are 12 further games left before the league splits in two and the bottom 6 fight to avoid 3 relegation spots, the top 6 fight for promotion. My aim is still the same, we are only 8pts behind 6th in the league, we can make that up, but first we need to get some form on the board.

The Cup

We won our first game, and got humped in the second one by a lower team. Not much else to say.

The Players

Player of the Period: Andrei Voican (ST) - 12 Apps, 6G, 6A, AvgR: 7.23 - This award wasn't even close, much better than the rest, should be better now he has a defense behind him.

Nov Update

December 1st 2015

The Signings

Mijo Miserda (MC) - I had troubles with my North Korean & Romanian MCs constantly on International Duty with no windows, so made this move for strengthening there.

Joining January

Przemyslaw Laskowski (DC) - I had trouble with defense early on, so started chasing good defenders, this one is solid, but will fight for a role come January

The League

Fixtures

Fixtures.png

I was actually pretty pleased with this month, those two 1-0 losses were a bit gutting though as we were the better team and let them score late to put us behind. We are looking a lot better so hopefully they can kick on now.

Table

League.png

We have made the move towards getting ahead of the relegation spots, but still need to keep fighting up the table and winning games or relegation will be the result at the end of the season.

The Players

Player of the Period: Andrei Voican (ST) - 4 Apps 5G 0A AvgR: 7.32 - This award wasn't even close again he keeps up his end of the bargain and is slowly growing towards being a superstar.

Player Stats

Squad.png

Across the board the team is slowly starting to improve, this hopefully end up with the correct result.

From Here & Other News

,

From the weird files, I asked for this match to be postponed, and expected it to be played midweek after the call-ups returned, but instead it was moved from Saturday to Sunday, and hence no players had returned, so it was a pointless postponement. Was delighted though to see Voican named as the League Player of the Month for November.

All I can hope for through out December is for the results to continue the way they are and we slowly climb up the table.

Actually a little surprised that they turned it around enough to avoid relegation, only two signings were made after I left, and neither of them played a single game for the rest of the season. Went 9-4-5 through the rest of the season with Gaustad scoring 9 goals, and Hetlevik being the star in the midfield. Look forward to seeing if they can stay up again next season.

Lucky timing :D

Turned out that way, also managed to add a new DC & DL in January, think it makes the team stronger.

Though now torn on an offer I have received for one of my young Centre Backs.

Winter Break Update

March 1st 2016

The Signings

Przemyslaw Laskowski (DC) - Signed to be that needed assistance at the back, hopefully one of the final pieces.

Aleksandar Cvetkovic (DL) - I had just re-signed Moi for the following season, but this one was too good to turn down, Cvetkovic is a big step up.

Joining in July

Jose Carlos (ST) - A step up on Voican, he will challenge for the role for next season.

Maciej Bancewicz (AMR) - A new winger for our weak side.

Michal Wiecek (AMR) - Signed more on his potential, but could battle for the starters role in new season.

Daniel Nawrocki (MC) - Will join a huge battle for the starters role in the 2016/17 season.

Left the Fold

Mihaita Geanta (DC) - I was offered 84k, and got an increase to 100k, no question this sale would go through.

The League

Fixtures

League Fixtures.png

An Unbeaten month for a change, was a bit disappointed to end with only a draw against Berceni, but the win earlier had pulled us up the table a bit, and it looks like we are slowly growing into the season. Going to be a relegation battle rather than the top half battle, but that is ok by me so long as we avoid relegation.

Table

Table.png

We have pulled out of the relegation territory with those last two results, six games until the league splits. After that I believe we play the other 5 teams twice, and add the points from our first round meetings, but don't quote me on this. Our remaining 6 games are Home: Dunarea, Braila, Vitorul & Dorohoi, Away: Botosani & Chindia. We play 4 of the top 5 teams in our final run, but face 8th & 12th as well. Hope to take points in the four home games as that has to be the way to get enough to avoid relegation.

The Friendlies

New Beginnings Update

April 17th 2016

The Club

Full Name: Nordvest Football Club

Nickname: None

Year Founded: 2008

Stadium: Holbæk Stadion, Holbæk (10,000 - 1100 seated)

Status: Semi-Professional

Background.png

This is a step down from my previous club, but they have also won 4 trophies in only a few years of existence. First job this season is to avoid relegation, so will just have to deal with what the team has. More about the club situation later. It appears the club was previously known under another name and reformed in 2008.

The Directions

Media Predicts: 6th

Board Expects: Avoid Relegation

My Expectations: Avoid Relegation

Wage Budget: €3,803 p/w

Current Wages: €4,367 p/w

Club Finances

Finances.png

Not exactly the best financial situation, but beggars cannot be choosers.

The Squad

Squad.png

Given that the club is over wage budget that looks quite disappointing, and I am seriously now worried about my chances of avoiding the drop. Bager looks a gem at right back, and Johanssen looks good at centre back, our goalie looks solid as well. My biggest question looking at this team is where are my goals coming from. Elgaard is supposed to be the best striker and he has not scored a goal all season.

Right so work on goals when I can.

The League

The Table

League.png

Not actually too bad. We are only 3pts off getting out of relegation, and I feel conceding a goal per game isn't too bad, really need to start scoring some. I have been hired in worse positions than this before. The previous manager was sacked following a 2-0 loss away to Middelfart, and I have 7 days to prepare for a game at Vendsyssel FF. This is going to be a massive task, any player not good enough to start is likely to be cut for wage room.

Free Agency Update

May 1st 2016

The Signings

The focus here had to be the midfield, we had no players who were capable as central mids, so my first focus was getting some of them in, next was a new DM as our current one was out for 2 months. Then I looked to Central Defense, though that priority was low and could wait til end of season if we survived.

Henrik Fagerberg (MC) - Depth signing, I needed someone and he is on a non-contract.

Jesper Mikkelsen (DC/DM/MC) - This signing was perfect, he will cover DM for now, can also play DC & MC meaning he will be great use going forwards too.

Morten Krogh (DM) - Another depth signing with non-contract

Morten Pedersen (AM/MC) - Will get the start, great to get these signings done before the first game. Can move to AM if needed.

Ronni Bagge (MC) - Probably one of the better players I signed, look forward to them helping out.

Joining June

Patrick Kongsted (DC) - A good starting DC for next season, was trying to get one in before May 1st, but this'll have to do.

The League

Fixtures

Fixtures.png

Well a win first up was pleasing at least, wasn't the best game, but it's a start.

Table

Table.png

First game up and a win puts us now just a single point from getting out of the relegation spots. Our goal difference is also better than 4 teams above us. Going to work hard here.

What's Next?

Well next up we face FC Sydvest, a win here will drop them into the Relegation spots and push us ahead of them. A huge match for us and a must win if we are going to get up to avoid relegation.

May Days Update

June 1st 2016

The League

Fixtures

Fixtures.png

Continuing unbeaten since I joined the club, 6 games through May against teams from all levels in the table, a win against Otterup on May 29th also was enough to guarantee that we had achieved our goal for the season and relegation had been avoided.

Table

Table.png

As you can see we have moved comfortably up the table since I took over the club, a win to end May saw us 10pts clear of relegation with only 3 games remaining, so we have definitely survived. My main aim now is to try and steal 10th, I know it is going to be tough next season as it is likely to be an increase in expectations with less wage budget as the club is in financial trouble, and currently I am well over, and will need to ditch a few of the bigger contracts. Our Keeper is definitely leaving as he won't even discuss a new contract, one of our DCs has a 500 p/w contract, that I will try to offload, and one of our other players has a similar size contract.

Players

Player of the Month: Jesper M. Kristensen (AMR) - 6 Apps, 2G, 3A => Was a star early on, but has been solid since as well. Just offered a contract extension.

Player Stats

What's Next?

Our final three games are Aarhus Fremad (A), Svendborg (H) & Brabrand (A), 3 very winnable games, the toughest is up first, and after that wins against the other two should catapult us into the tenth spot in the table.

In the News

I came into a very tight financial situation, and as it stands it will probably lead to two players leaving in the offseason purely because they cannot truly be fitted under the wage budget. A new Sponsorship deal has been signed for the new season. Financially I think the club can be managed, and building from here should be possible.

The League

I took over with ten games remaining and a 3pt gap to safety, we went unbeaten through the 10 remaining games, I added several midfielders to improve the team, and they were just enough as our record was 6-4-0 with a GF/GA of 11-3, our defence was excellent, but we really need to work on goal scoring, hopefully the striker we have can get his confidence back.

The Current Squad

Goalkeepers

1. Lasse Sommergard (GK) - An awesome keeper, all season long, with 13 clean sheets and only 26 goals conceded, a better keeper we couldn't find.

Defenders

10. Matthias Andersen (DL) - Was just a sub when I turned up, but played all ten games for us after I joined, pretty happy with his performance.

12. Jonas Bager (DRC) - My favourite right back, he had played a bit before I came along, but also featured in every game since I joined, very happy with him.

4. Victor Johannesen (DC) - The strongest centre back in the squad, but his contract is 500p/w which is a lot in this team.

29. Patrick Kongsted (DC) - One of the late signings, he might be a good signing. Will see how he goes.

5. Morten Walldo (DC/DM) - Useful cover through the middle, he played until Bang was back.

Midfielders

8. Ronni Bagge (MC) - One of the early MC signings, I needed to strengthen the spot, Bagge was a very good signing.

14. Gustav Bang (DM) - Was out for 2 months when I first joined, came back near the end of the season.

6. Jesper M. Kristensen (AMR) - Our best right winger, he is not exactly the best in the league, but has been solid this season.

3. Christian Madsen (ML) - Madsen was the incumbent left mid, but I couldn't improve on him, so he stayed.

33. Jesper Mikkelsen (DC/MC) - He can play all the way from central Def to Central mid, and did throughout the 10 final games, one of my favourite players.

34. Morten Pedersen (MC) - He was the other signing for our midfield, with 4 assists in 10 games he did brilliantly for us.

Strikers

9. Kim Elgaard (ST) - The only striker in the squad, he was on a 30 game scoreless streak when I joined, ended up scoring, but I might need better next season.
