The Sammarinese Challenge.

Recommended Posts

Dont post here, so hi! Just wondering if anyone has ever "taken over" a team from the San Marino league? I am thinking of adding a second manager called "San Marino Co." or something, and buying a player for 30 mill every so often, effectively bankrolling the club.

The San Marino structure is view only I think so although the league can run, you can't manage in it.without an edit of the database, (which I'm not keen on).

I have tried to inject money into a Sammarinese team, but because they have amateur status, all their players are available on a free so you can't even a buy a player at hugely inflated prices to give them a financial payday.

With two games remaining, we were tied first on 50 points. We had picked up 20 points in 8 games, meaning we had dropped only 5 points. We had two playoff hopefuls in the final two matches, and our lack of experience cost us as we lost 1-0 to Cremonese and then drew 0-0 with FeralpiSalo. Both games we dominated but failed to find the net.

We ended up in 4th place on 51 points, but could of been equal first with Virtus Entella on 56 points had results gone our way, and an automatic playoff spot may have been a possibility with our better head to head record. Alas, we would now face Como in the first playoff round, but either way, it is a good first season result regardless.

San Marino v Como

Incredible match! We started out the stronger but the first half ended 0-0 with not much excitement happening, bar a disallowed goal to Como for offside. The second half is where the action kicked off, We were handed a straight red, and soon started to get over run until Como scored in the 84 minute, before having a second goal disallowed. I thought it was all over, but pushed everyone forward in the slight chance we might get the equaliser. As fairytale's go, we did, in the 92nd minute, 2 minutes in to stoppage time. We struck and the home fans erupted. We survived and would be in the race for another 30 minute at least. Extra time came and the first 15 flew by. The second saw us lose Miccoluci to a red, and we now had only 9 players. Como had a third goal disallowed as we went all out defensive and somehow managed to survive to penalties with just 9 players on the field.

Penalties saw us hit 4 from 4, while Como faltered under the pressure and had two penalties saved. Jubilation springs to mind as I danced around with a triumphant fist pump. 9 Players, 2 red cards, a goal 2 minutes into stoppage time and a penalty shootout win and that was only the first round of the playoffs. We have a lot to do to remain competitive as we now face Cremonese, who only 2 weeks a go put us to the sword with a 1-0 loss at their hands.

San Marino v Cremonese

First Leg

We had more possession but conceded an early goal, and by the time we hit our groove we were 2-0 down after 25 minutes. We had been given a penalty late in the first half to return a bit or parity and to get a crucial away goal, going into the break 2-1 down. We controlled the ball, but Cremonese had the better chances and in the 80th minute, they took one of them to make it 3-1 and really put us in a bit of a pickle for the return leg as we needed to win by 3 goals outright to progress, or a 2-0 score line to go through on aggregate.

Second Leg

In similar circumstances to the first leg, there was an early goal, but this time it was to us. A penalty was also scored by Cremonese to return parity to the match and meant the 2-0 aggregate option was out the window. Rodriguez broke his drought with a goal in stoppage time of the first half to make it 2-1 and give us a decent chance to level things with another goal in the second half.

We decided to play with the same tactics in the second half, as 45 minutes was plenty of time in football, and it proved the right decision to not panic, as a whipped in ball found a Cremonese lad, and in turn he deflected it into his own net to make it 3-1 and level the aggregated scores. The match drew closer and closer to extra time, and with 7 minute remaining Sensi struck the fourth to send our fans into cheers, and the Cremonese travellers into tears. The match wasn't done yet and in the 89th minute a corner was headed home by the substitute Bamonte sealed the deal and give us a 5-1 win. We are through to the final!

Final V Alto Adige

First Leg

We struck first and looked pretty good in the first half until Alto Adige scored in the final minute. We then went a goal and a man down in the second half and it took a huge attacking effort to stay in the game. We went overload and managed to pull it back to 2-2 with a couple minutes left on the clock. A good result being away from home, meaning we would go in with a slight advantage in the home leg. Miccoulcci was also back, which was a further bonus.

Second Leg

A fairly flat game. We controlled the ball but lacked any real threat up front, likewise from Alto Adige, though they at least had some shots on target. It was not one of those that made a difference though, it was the penalty in the 72nd minute that we gave away. Adige capitalised and made it 1-0 and try as we might, we couldn't get the equaliser and we had lost the final.

Another year in the Serie C, but we had a very good run and I will be expecting much the same if we can retain the majority of these players.

I missed the end of season stats, but here was the best XI

International 2013-14

Expectation was not very high, however we did get some notable results amongst the clutter of balls pulled out of our net.

We managed a 0-1 loss to Estonia in our second match of the year, followed by a goal against Montenegro in a 1-4 loss. We also managed our first point by drawing 1-1 with Moldova in the World Cup Qualifiers. Manuel Marani was the scorer in the historic match.

You're lucky, when I started my game Moldova had already had both games with us simulated, so I never got a chance to play them. I still haven't got a qualifying point in 2016!

I have started this year pretty well too. I managed a draw with Andorra and Singapore. Next up is Iceland Qualifier, so two results in friendlies isn't too bad to start the year.

Transfers 2014-15

We managed to get Ciano and Piva in permanently, which was a big boost as they played so well last year, While the best we could do was extend the loans of Venturi in goals and Draghetti (who doesn't appear in the list for some reason) to keep a familiar feel about the team from last season. We had a few injuries last year in the back line so Zamparo, Maini, Guarco and Traore give us depth across the backline. Bologna was heavily raided being our parent club and we managed to score a few real gems, Yaisien being one and he will be a crucial player in our midfield, especially with the injury toll we had last year. I am hoping we can get promotion to try and make the signing permanent in Serie B next season.

Veratti and Cruciani will also be important midfield players as we have a 5 man midfield so will need some heavy rotation and backups for injuries.

We are over our wage budget, so my intention was to try and cut players where possible. Not many where viable for clubs, so only Montagnese was sold for money, a paltry 30k. But this was better than I managed for the likes of Villanova, Cruz, and Pigini who I ended up letting got for free just to reduce the wage bill. As it stands we are still a little high, so I have gone in over committed this season to get results to help alleviate that burden through promotion. Should we fail, we will be in some serious financial trouble.

2014-15

After 10 games we were in second place, with a very solid 23 points out of a possible 30. A few teams seemed to really be keeping the pressure on though, so it was important to keep the form on. At this stage last season we had 19 points to sit 3rd and first was only on 22. This time around they had 25 at the top, so it was a larger disparity from top to bottom of the table early on in the season.

This young fella is about 200 days away from gaining Italian Citizenship, so I have thrust him into my latest selection. Bar any injuries, he will get his first cap(s) and will instantly become our best and highest potential player. He is currently plying his trade for Cesena, and he has 5 star reporting for us on an international scouting level so I am excited about this prospect. He is likely to develop decently if Cesena use him in the Serie B, so here's hoping!

Fabio Tomassini

I think I just jinxed myself, as Tomassini just got injured prior to the first friendly against Hungary. One more against Malta coming up. Hope he gets fit enough in time!

Update: Not fully fit, but I gave him a 45 minute first half Cameo in a 1-0 loss to Malta. Not a competitive game but we have him off the mark!

We are having an amazing middle part of the season as we shoot up to first place eith a 5 point buffer over Perugia, whom we just beat 1-0 on match day 20. In fact, our only loss of the season so far has come against Siena, which was much earlier in the season. Prior to that there was the Italian Cup loss to Palermo which we also pushed to the very last minutes of the game. We set a run of 6 wins on the trot, a new record, as well as going 19 games without loss in all competitions.

At this stage last season we had only 30 points, so we have seen a huge 19 point swing in performance over the last 12 months. We also only took 11 points at 1.1 per game for the same period, and have taken a whopping 26 out of a possible 30 this time around. Almost the complete score we had after double the amount of matches. To show how much the top two sides have dominated however, last year we ended with 51 points and managed 4th. This season, the top 3 sides are on 40+ with 4th on 39. That means a mere 12 points from the final 10 games is required from 4th place to equal or better last seasons points total.

We are still in the Italian Serie C Cup as well, however we drew our opening group game which puts a bit of pressure on us to progress.

On my save Tomassini & Stefanelli, the 2 best young strikers are both extremely injury prone and often miss games, thus haven't developed too much either. I'm surprised you let Juri Biordi go, as he became a decent NT player with training on my game. Ended up in Serie C as a regular for another team.

After 30 games, we are still sitting pretty at the top of the ladder on 70 points, with a 3 point buffer over Perugia. We lost our 30th match 6-3 however, as we are starting to faulter as the season draws into the back end of the season. Last seasons shortened season really helped us fitness wise, as the full 38 match season is starting to see us drop points against weaker sides.

We are fairly close to cementing a playoff spot at least, which will be good news.

We picked up 20 points in our final 8 games, including a 2-1 win on match day 37 against Viareggio. Micolucci scoring in the 87th minute to seal all 3 points and keep us 1 point clear at the top with a game to go. We drew against last placed Lucchese which put Perugia only 1 point behind with 7 games remaining, but Poletti, the captain, showed why he is the leader of the side with 5 goals in the final 6 games from the left wing position to help us over the line as Perugia dropped their last game to allow us the title as they ended 4 points behind us, while we took the trophy with a solid 90 points from 38 matches.

We lost 3-0 to Como before beating Lecce 3-2 in the Serie C Super Cup to come in second place

International News 2014

Not a bad season internationally as we managed to rotate a few players and test out a lot of the youngsters. No one has been a cemented lock other than Simmoncini when fit, mainly due to the lack of quality and finding out our best players on a consistent basis.

We managed to crack toe top 200 for one month of rankings, when we drew with Andorra 1-1 and then Singapore 2-2 in consecutive games to open the year. We also notched a goal against Iceland in a 3-1 loss to get 3 goals in 3 consecutive matches.

We struggled for the remainder of the year, with our only other goal in a 5-1 loss to Ukraine, though we pushed Italy in a friendly, going down 2-0 and almost squeezed a result out of Malta in a fairly tight 1-0 loss, where we had a goal disallowed.

Tomassini got a Qualifier cap to lock him in, as well as his first goal and is likely our striker for the next few years until the youth facilities improve.

The side is currently ranked 206th.

Retirements

Andy Selva (38) has called it a day after 64 caps and 8 goals for the national team. He continues his career as a Manager but is currently unemployed.

Nicola Albani (34) has retired with 40 caps and 1 goal for the national team. He continues his career as a scout but is currently unemployed.

Alex Gasperoni (30) has decided to hang up his boots internationally and professionally after 37 caps and 1 goal to his name. He is continuing his career in the armature levels but currently does not have a club.

Matteo Andreini (33) has retired after 25 caps for the national team. He continues his career as a scout but is currently unemployed.

More of an update with the transfers section coming later today, however stoked that all my loanees are out of contract ending this year. I was able to pick up Venturi, Draghetti, Veratti and Gavilan on free's. That's the majority of my core from last season preserved. Although they will likely be role players this season, they are also 4.5 star potential with my squad, which means that they have room to grow.

Here's hoping I can get rid of some dead wood though to bring in stronger players for Serie B. Still being tight on the purse strings even with the injection and increased budget.

leon. Unlucky with the playoff final, but congrats on the promotion the following season. I got promoted in Season 1, but came straight back down after a disaster of a season in Serie B.

I managed to beat Moldova 1-0 in Oct 2012... Actually that can't have been me because the game had not started. That must have been a generated result. We beat Faroes in Oct 2014 for our first points, then beat Belarus in 2015 and drew with Wales in 2016 before only gaining 2 points over the next 9 years. It really is a hard slog early on with the NT, (but I'm sure you know that).

Tomassini looks decent for a player produced elsewhere. I have only had one of these in my whole save so far, (record NT appearance holder Manuel Conti). I don't remember Tomassini at all and for some reason I can only go back as far as 2016 with the NT Best XI. (No idea why that is). Aldo, Conti, Battistini and Stefanelli are the only names that jump out at me when I look back to 2016.

You are completely right to concentrate on the club. It's the only way to go and the NT at this stage is just background more than anything.

Congrats on the promotion Leon.

That's my preferred method of squad building also, I have mainly come from a LLM playstyle, so have very little exposure to any transfers that aren't free. So I had been stocking my team with lots of Loanee's and looking to sign the good ones at the expiration of their contracts.

I think he initially started off as a loanee of the team, but I note you don't have him anymore, Sasa Cicarevic. That kid has been a beast for me, he is a Montenegren international and despite his relatively poor stats now (compared to other Serie A strikers) he is still doing work for me as my lone striker.

I will try post an update tonight, I started playing FM again and decided to dust off this save after playing a couple other games recently.

::EDIT:: Is there any way to appoint myself as the National Team Coach without resigning from the Club?

Sasa never had a game for me. He ended up playing at Gubbio that first season, scoring 2 in 13 appearances 11(2). He then went out on loan to Reggiana and had 6 from 32 (all starts) with 7 assists.

Ill have a transfer update in a couple of minutes as the window is very close to closing. But Loaning was very much my thing in Serie C, but in B I try to sign players so that I have a decent enough squad for a couple of season to settle. If i don't stay up, despite an inflated wage bill, I should have the squad to get straight back up again.

I don't believe there is anyway other than applying. The manager will retire before he gets fired though, so you may have to wait quite some time to apply.

Transfers 2015-16

We had a small kitty, but with the realisation that we are facing the drop this year (the gulf of difference is really quite huge!) I didn't want to spend the money that got us in the black for the first time since I took over, so I went for the safer option.

I bulked up the club by signing the young potential I had a loan last year, as well as a few other solid squad players. Venturi, Draghetti, Veratti, Gavilan, and Maini all return as permanent signings and all free to boot, whilst Yaisien was brought back for another loan spell. We picked up another keeper as well as a lot of defence, with Grassi and Sy our biggest investments up front.

We also dropped a lot of players to free up some extra age space, Rocchi being one of the larger departures.

I know that this squad is not exactly the strongest in our fight to avoid relegation, but it is young, and they have chemistry as a few of them have played together for the past 2 seasons. We shall see if that is enough to keep us a float for another season, as I expect us to start building a debt free competitive squad for Serie B in about 3-4 seasons should we avoid the drop.

Season 2015-16 Match day 10

I knew we would struggle, but not as much as we are at this stage. We are in the relegation zone currently, with only 11 points from 10 matches. We have played the likes of Pescara, Novara and Parma, whist we still have Como, Bari and a few other cellar dwellers to come. Hopefully after the next 10 games, we should be in a slightly better position.

A bit of a boost is a player favourite of mine (from my San Marino 2013 Challenge - look it up to see the little bromance) Di Tacchio, who is currently on a 4 week trial, but has just agreed to a permanent deal with me. Hopefully over the next few days it can be finalised, and we will get that extra midfielder we need, but more importantly, he will be our most talented midfielder, so will be a huge jump in quality in the middle of the park for us.

::EDIT:: Is there any way to appoint myself as the National Team Coach without resigning from the Club?

If he is going on and on and showing no signs of retiring and you are really keen on the NT job then you could try this.

1. Create new manager with name Natteam Bump.

2. Add him as Manager of the San Marino NT, (therefore bumping current manager out of the role).

3. Retire Natteam Bump, (so that the role is now vacant).

4. Apply for the vacant role yourself.

Cheers Jimbo that sounds like a good solution! I was afraid I would have to make a new manager for both. I might take a copy of my save and try that, so if something goes wrong I can restore.

Not quite sure I want to start managing the National Team right at the moment, as I have never managed a NT before. Might be a bit daunting running both club and NT. When I started the save I started as both but got a bit overwhelmed and decided to focus on the club first.

Leon, sounds like you had a bit of a lucky escape. I always keep a back up at the start of each new season (just replace the old one). I figure I don't mind starting a season fresh, but starting the whole save again would be tough.

I have a rolling save, so there are two backups, but as my next update will show, we have had a fine run of form and I was worried that if I lost it, repeating those 7-8 games may not of come out in quite the same way. I have about 2-3 more games in the league before the update, but as an indication of how well the team has played as of late, we managed to beat Parma 1-0 to make it to the Italian Cup first round proper, and we knocked off a 4 in a row win streak in the league to be something like 8 points clear of the relegation zone. I didn't want to end the match last night as I was playing so well, but it was 1am and I needed to get to bed. Hopefully the form can continue.

I think the reality is that it always will be a little daunting I think.

It's not like a big nation where you just have lots of high reputation players and can just pick and choose the good players you want and even if you make a mistake, have still picked a decent squad.

For 20+ years you will be selecting a squad that has a number of players who are very poor and it means that you have to take far more notice of these carp players and often one carp player looks an awful lot like another carp player.

You will have a core of "good" players, (or at least high PA players), that you have produced yourself, but even in 2035 now I am finding that I am forced to select 8, 9 or even 10 players, (in a NT squad of 23), who have a PA of less than 3.0 stars. (GK has been a particular area of concern for me). It will take you a number of seasons to get used to your squad so that you can just go and pick a new squad, (I empty the squad completely and select again from scratch each time a new squad is selected). I find it easier by also managing the U21's but that is a little onerous and more recently I have been holidaying these games.

I must admit that the management of the NT, (even when I went 10 years without a competitive win), does add to the "feel" of the save and helps you generate a bit of feeling and longevity within the save and the players, (but maybe that's just me). It also helps you develop a tactic for the NT and that's something that's not easy initially, (at least I didn't find it easy).

Anyway, good luck.

Season 2015-16 Match Day 20

What a spell of matches we have had.... After picking up only 11 points in our opening 10 games, we went on a run of 4 straight (one of which was from our opening 10 matches) to get us out of the relegation zone. We ended with a mixed bag. Some draw and and losses in the final few games, but regardless, we picked up a solid 17 points to be on 28 after 20 matches. We are currently in 11th with 10 points clear of the relegation zone. Should we put together a similar performance over the next 10 games, we should be able to safely navigate our way through our first season in the Serie B.

Jimbo. I tried that method you suggested and it worked perfectly. At least now I know I can take over the NT when I am ready, not quite sure I want to do it immediately.

My Youth academy has produced some pretty decent players to date, I have been lucky and have 2 GK's. Federico Casadei who was a youth from my first intake and is basically as good as he is going to get and rated as a good player for Serie A. I also had another GK come through the youths who is touted as having the potential to be a Star GK in the Serie A. He is still young, only 18 (if memory serves) and a lot of room to develop, he unfortunately has dual nationalities though.

I guess the incentive for me to take over the National Team is to try and confirm some of the Dual Nationality players as SMR players.

Leon, you are making some nice progress there. Good to see you have established some breathing room in Serie B.

I was stuck in Serie C a bit longer then you on my run through, but on the bright side I think I only had 2 seasons in the Serie B till I got promoted, then I found the first season in Serie A extremely challenging. I think that is mainly because I am not a fan of losing money so I didn't go wild with my wage or transfer budgets. I splashed a bit of cash on transfers in this most recent season (for which I still have to post updates).

Good luck staying up. It appears you are well on your way.

Thanks Daymor. When I completed this challenge on FM13, the hardest part was the step from Serie B to Serie A, however Serie C to Serie B was not too difficult.

I have found in FM14, I have really struggled in Serie B. Do not let the position deceive you, I am punching well above my weight. I am really 5 points away from 20th, it just so happens that the 3 teams below that point are having terrible seasons. Had one or to results been different, I would be in a much more precarious position. I feel I am out of the woods this season, but I do not expect any quick rise to Serie A.

Thought this couldn't wait... We managed a huge 1-0 over Pescara who are currently top of Serie B. It puts us onto 31 points, 12 clear of relegation with 20 games to go.

In the previous 2 seasons 49 and 52 were enough to avoid relegation, and at our worst rate of 1.1 points per game, we should be able to get 22 points in the final 20 matches, giving us 53!

Not to cheer too early, but I am almost certain we can avoid relegation now with that win! Super excited by this result indeed!

Season 2015-16 Matchday 31

31 points after 21, we looked pretty good. We drew a few more matches before a 6-0 win over Latina and I thought we would coast. However, we dropped a sure fire 3 points against Benvento after conceding a 2 goal lead in the final 10 minutes. e then lost another 2 to have 3 games without points. This left us on 42 after 31 games. There are still 11 matches to go but we are only 9 points clear of the bottom 3, and 7 clear of the relegation playoff zone. I hope my target of 53 can be reached. We need a point per game and still have a few mid table and lower table sides to go so I am still confident of avoiding the drop.

2018/2019 Season Update

Overall a very good season, had a bit of trouble re-signing some of my top players as I had to squeeze to get them within the max wage allowed by the club but managed to retain my players. My squad was built largely from loanee's.

- Finished the Serie B in the top spot after finishing 5th last year and losing in the first round of playoffs. Was a great result and it needed to happen sooner rather than later with players I want to keep starting to ask for significant wage increases.

- Youth Intake was disappointing with only 1 tag for talent (who was an Italian anyway) and then a couple more SMR signings for National Squad depth.

- A few call-ups for the National Team amongst my players added for depth. Nothing too special though.

- Michele Bindi's development had stalled so I sold him to Torino for $400k as he was no longer of sufficient quality to get playing time in my Team. ::NOTE:: Old picture, but his stats have not really changed much, he played 1 game for Torino over 2 seasons and is currently unemployed as of Feb 2022.

It's late here, so I will try to post some more updates for the following seasons soon.

There is still 6 games to go, but our form has completely gone out the window and I am not confident at all of staying up at this stage. 9 points clear of an automatic relegation spot, but we are only 3 from safety from the playoff spot. We have taken some heavy losses, but a record of 6 losses out of our last 8, with only 1 win coming in that same period has meant we only have 4 points from 8 games. They haven't even been close half of the time. Below are our last 8 results:

Edit:

Just picked up a 3-2 over Virtus Entella while Avellino lost to give us a 6 point buffer! We actually closer to the playoof spots, only 5 points off Perugia in 8th... I wonder.... :)

Final Match Days

I complained and we won our next 4 straight. In fact, 12 straight points got me excited as we had Verona next, who where 17th. A win would push us up to 8th, and if results go our way, we could force a playoff! Here are the last 4 results

| Sat, 30/4/2016 | 15:00 | Virtus Entella | | H | 3-2 | Abdallah Yaisien (21), Ronaldo (38), Gianluca Draghetti (41)
| Sat, 7/5/2016 | 15:00 | Perugia | | A | 3-1 | Luca Veratti (10), Abdallah Yaisien (26, 76)
| Tue, 10/5/2016 | 20:45 | Como | | H | 3-0 | Abdallah Yaisien (7, 32), Ousmane Sy (84)
| Sat, 14/5/2016 | 15:00 | Cesena | | A | 3-1 | Gianluca Draghetti (68, 90+2), Luca Veratti (90)

But it seems this team goes from one extreme to the other... Just 7 days after toppling Cesena in a late comeback, we go on and do this!

| Sat, 21/5/2016 | 15:00 | Verona | | H | 0-6 | None

Bye bye any hope of playoff experience, and bye bye confidence going into the final game of the season. 6-0 is our new biggest defeat on record. To be fair we really didn't deserve to make any playoffs, but I am just glad that we have survived the season.

We had one game left, but it was a dead rubber and both teams played like it, 4-4 with caution thrown to the wind. A great way to give fans a season final send off. Serie B, here we come again next year!

A great season from Yaisien, Veratti and Draghetti in both assists and goals, while Rodriguez did his job upfront with 17.

Congrats on staying up Leon.

That table brings back memories, it was similar in my first season in Serie B. You are fighting to avoid relegation, but are not that far from promotion playoffs either.

And cheers for the well wishes. I have got 2 more seasons to update and almost completed a 3rd, so I have to spend some time writing up my progress.

2019/2020 Season

Started off the season in some quite good form and was hopeful that I would be able to stay up even with odds of 2000-1. But after the 14th game, my form took a dive and I was caught in a heated relegation battle with Pescara, Fiorentina and Cagliari. Falling to the bottom of the Serie A in week 27. Thankfully we never lost touch with those three teams and eventually managed to secure safety with some patchy form over the last few weeks.

Table

Squad

The TV money in Serie A really helped and I was able to upgrade my facilities a couple times and my Junior Coaching is now maxed out at Exceptional. I am very happy with this and am hoping to reap the rewards from good Youth Intakes going forward.

- Youth Intake was pretty good, had one exceptional SMR talent come through with no second nationality which is a huge plus.

- Giancarlo Marcucci, touted as being star Serie A potential, he will get a spot straight into the National Team I would expect. He is already better than Michele Bindi straight out of the academy.

- Unfortunately I think I got a bit hasty with him and when Juventus came in with an offer for $4.1mil, I only pushed them up to $4.5mil on negotiation and they happily paid me. I have a feeling this was a mistake. I have decent CD's already but in 1-3 years I could see him in my starting team.

- Rest of the intake was average.

- Federico Casadei was transfered to Leeds for $500k. I managed to sign the Hungarian GK Adam Bogdan who was an upgrade over Casadei, so instead of warming the bench I did right by him and let him walk.

It was a tough first season in the Serie A, but I am extremely happy that we managed to stay up. If we went down I had a feeling my roster would have been gutted, and not by choice.

2020/2021 Season

Our form over the season was very inconsistent, when we played well we could grab draw's against some of the big teams including Roma, Lazio and A.C. Milan. And then fall flat on our face against some teams struggling in the competition. Thankfully we were yoyo'ing in the middle of the table and not the bottom, although at times we certainly were down there.

Towards the end of the Season I decided to change up my tactics somewhat, I had been using the same tactic through all my seasons to date. An attacking 4-3-2-1, with 3 MC's and 2 AM Wingers and a lone striker. As a result we were bleeding goals, as the tactic was not particularly defensive. I added a narrow attacking 5-3-2 (3 MC's, 2 ST's) which seemed to improve the results quite significantly.

In the end we finished mid table (11th), but largely due to the congestion amongst teams from 10-17 with only 12 points seperating us all. Regardless a very good result and shows that the side is improving.

Facilities

As you can see I am making the most of the Serie A money and my facilities have improved significantly. Superb Training, Great Youth, Exceptional Junoir Coaching and Above Average Youth Recruitment which is getting bumped up to Established.

Also, NEW STADIUM! This will really help, as at the moment I am making a little bit of money each month due to TV income, so having increased ground capacity will really help boost revenue. Average capacity over the year being 98%.

- Youth Intake I would actually consider quite good for the simple fact that the top three rated recruits are all SMR players. None of them world beaters, but likely significant upgrades for the NT.

- Marco Giannini was the top rated recruit, once again another CD. I have been getting quite a few recently. He should be able to develop into a good player for the NT, even though he has Italian as a second nationality I can't see him being of sufficient caliber for that to be an issue.

- Giacomo Tosi has started off with some pretty below average stats, so will require some work to reach his potential.

- Davide Ugolini can play a couple of positions which should be helpful as I am taking over the NT during the next season, so he should be able to help fill positions depending on the tactics I use.

- Federico Ceccoli and Alberto Amici were also signed for NT depth. Ceccoli started off with some surprisingly good base stats.

- Federico Casadei was transfered to Leeds for $500k. I managed to sign the Hungarian GK Adam Bogdan who was an upgrade over Casadei, so instead of warming the bench I did right by him and let him walk.

A very productive year for the team, I was happy with our performance in the Serie A. A lot of my squad were loanees last year and during the year I signed a significant amount of them onto my roster full-time. I am really enjoying playing in the Italian leagues, having benches of 12 players and unlimited loanees fits perfectly with how I prefer to play and build a roster.

Looking forward to next season, will likely pick up the NT job after completing next season of the Serie A. I think I am still a fair way away from breaking into the top 6 or so. I need my stadium finished to help earn enough income to support higher wages.

Decent run in the Serie A there. The congestion usually follows your side, the higher up you get, the higher up the congestion gets I've noticed.

I took me a long while last time to become an elite in Serie A, and even after I did I only managed a few titles and I think only one Champions League.

has anyone ever got a regen in the youth intake who isn't italian or San Marinese?

Not in FM14 as of yet, but I had a few in FM13. It can also depend on where your scouts are from I believe. I had a couple from England, Spain, Argentina and Jamaica from memory as I had backroom staff from those areas. They are not usually very good though.

I have a bit of a dilemna for which I wouldn't mind a bit of feedback.

Currently for my Club team (I am in 22/23 season) I have this young Greek Striker, Thanasis Papadinas who is absolutely killing it for me. He has 17-20 goals in 20 or so games and is valued at $28Mil. His contract expires 2025 and he wants ridiculous money. $155k pw wages, currently my max is $80k. If I tweak my Wage budget I can probably get to like $100k per week or something.

I paid $10.25Mil for him 2-3 years ago. What do you guys think I should do?

As far as I can see, my options are;

a) Stretch the budget and try to sign him at which point I would probably have to upgrade the contracts of a significant number of other players

b) Transfer him and get as much as I can now before his contract expires and he walks on a free

c) Hope to god I do well enough to warrant huge payroll increases over the next 1-2 years (for reference I am currently top of the table but the top 5-6 teams are within 5 points or so. I am half way through the season)

Realistically my chances of staying top of the league are not that great, we have just gone on a good run and won/drew against a lot of the major teams, AC Milan, Juventus, Inter and Roma. But I imagine my form won't hold up through to the end of the season, I am hoping to get into Europa League at least.
