Hey with over 5,000 downloads both here and over at SortitoutSI of my 06 tactics versions I thought I'd have a stab at 07.

I've stuck with the 442 formation that got me so far last time, and as always my tactics come with the use of a target man by default. MiNiMaL_FuSS_07 v1 is very much a stanard 442, using fast breaks down the wings and a wide area in order to create chances, combined with my useual extremly defencive back 4.

•DR/DL - Very defensive, but encouraged to make forward runs on the break in order to counter attack. A solid defensive player is a must here, a pacey wingback racing forward is a bonus yes, but should not come at the expense of defensive characteristics (Baines had been exception here).

•DC - Very defensive, and stay back pretty much at all times playign the ultimate center back role, the useual big solid confident DCs are required here (Vidic has been exceptional here).

•MC/MC - I've avoided a dimond here as i've had trouble controlling the center of the park using one. Neither MC is particually offensive or defensive, both play solid center of the park roles and should look to make passes and pick out wingers (Macsherano has exceptional here).

•AML/AMR - Both very attacking, fast, and play quite wide, throuhging crosses in to be met by the target man. I've expertimented with arrow lengths and havn't actually found that much difference in overall play, so if your wingers are tiring feel free to shorten the arrows a little.

•FC/FC - The typical little and large combo is perfect here, seletc one as a target man and the other as the follow up striker, be prepared to make minor changes....I've left target man to mixed delivery, you shoudl change this to suit your target man, although some may perform well with it left to mixed (Drogba has been exceptional here).

--------------------------------

TIPS/TWEAKS:

Making small but important last minute changes seems to make a HUGE difference in FM07.

I'll useually make one or two of the following chances in the match screen at the very beginning, which is nomrally just enough to scupper the opposing teams plans to counter your tactic.

1= Change the target man side and delivery

2= Chnage yoour pacey striker to a free role

3= Add hold up the ball to your target man and possibly drop the other striker back with a forward arrow to original SC position (should result in pacey striker running in to collect ball from the target man)

4= Use swap position option on strikers and wingers (if you have wingers that can play on both sides)

These small tweak can cause just enough chage to confuse your enemey who probably setup their team especially to counter what they thought were you're original plans.

----------------------------------

Current Concerns:

I'm winning matches and scoring alot of goals with various teams, however there are still some defensive mistakes resulting in leaked goals, and also let in afew set-peices too many.

I'll be looking more closely at set peices for v2, and playing with some defensive tweaks....i've actually heard some good things about the offside trap in FM07!!!

-----------------------------------

Good luck and let me know, please dont post...its greats or its crap.

List your team and some details...as lways you need the right sorta players and time for them to settle in to a new tactic.

You'll find the tactic here on FMdownloads:

He also mentioned Vidic, which means it was Man U instead. Or perhaps it was West Ham because he mentioned Mascherano. Or maybe it was still Wigan because he mentioned Baines?

Or maybe it wasnt any of those and he just bought those players icon_wink.gif

-Benoit2 - cheers for pointing out the arrogance of some flamers, no wonder people have stopped contributing to this forum so much.

Actually it was tested with

Norwich (by me),

Wigan (by me),

Westham (by me),

Chelsea (by a friend),

Man Utd (by a friend),

Arsenal (by a friend),

Valencia (by a friend).

Worst results were with valencia, probably because this tactic seems to struggle most against 4-2-3-1 which is employed alot in FM07 by spanish teams, this situation seems to be resolved wth some defensive tweaks...as i mentioned before this may be fully implimented for the next version.

----------------------------------

On a personal note listing a bunch of successes you've had is pointless and shouldnt be a basis for deciding to download a tactic.

Anybody can heal there team every match with FMM and buy amazing players to fix there way to straight success and say 'my tactic roxorz cos i got all titles in 1 season with MK dons' :p

Hence I want other peoples success stories please.

Read the tactic, it's strengths and weaknesses are discussed. And if it suits your team and the style of play you like, try it.

I'll give it a go with Newcastle. I've been employing a diamond formation since FM05, but Newcastle have a lot of AML/AMR players, so it's a change I'll have to make sooner or later. I can never get the best out of the wingers in a diamond, let's hope I'll get a few clues were i'm going wrong with this tactic icon_smile.gif

Since this is a target man based tactic i give it a try with fiorentina which has my favourite target man...tweaked it a little and now i'm at 2nd league position behind inter with 2 or 3 match left (0-2 win vs inter away, 1-3 win vs ac milan away)...thanks to the -19 point deduction at the start of the season...i actually change the ML, MR to AML, AMR...lowering the defense line and other simple tweaks...this tactic rocks !!!

i just got promoted to conference with afc wimbledon with this tactic.. thanks. i am currently very desillusioned by this game, i`ve had sucsess in scotland with rangers getting the treble 2 years on the row, i then got offered the liverpool job after benitez had ****ed up the squad by selling steven, momo and peter.. i struggled the first year, eventually getting 2nd in the league, next season all hell broke loose, no tactics worked, i tried to tweake, adjust the team, tried different teamtalks, ending up confused 25 games into the season i decleard my interest in afc wimbledon, now i`ll try to stick by one tacic, and only tweak it a bit to adjust the team and players..

i turned off the target man action, as i dont have any target men..

Hey thanks for the comments, glad to be getting feedback, so far itsall been posative and quite afew PMs.

Godlike - I did try using the ML/MR pushed up in the AML/AMR positions (like Barca Domination), But i found the formation to be more solid as a straight 442 as pacey wingers can make it back to defend easier.

-Version 2 is coming along quite well, you'll notice some set-peices changes and some mild slider weaks for the defence.

-Please let me know any details you can as all input will help improve this tactic.

Im gonna give this tactic a go with Ipswich, i have struggled in my first two season's finishin 7th and then 10th, the main reason is the inconsistancy of my results.

Will report back on how this tactic works for me.

In response to jan911, that is happening to me exactly the same thing with pompey, you do really well then all of a sudden they crack your tactics, then you try find a new one or tweak things around and nothing at all works even though you test it out for a while n everything. very frustrating.. Im gonna try this tactic with leeds as im doing pretty badly with them

I will let you know how it goes

My players seem to be jumping about after kick off into different positions? It only happens when I use this tactic. Any suggestions why? P.s I haven't lost since using it, this coupled with new singings Ratinho, Micah Richards and Reto Ziegler have seen me record an away victory to the forces of darkness (celtic).

im now 3rd 4 points behind the leaders with west ham after 20 games, ive only made 1 signing in sherman cardenas and my team are playing superb, this tactic seems pretty awesome nice one FuSS icon14.gif p.s harewood has 20 goals in 20 as target man

gibson1314: the wingers are swapping places to confuse the defenders, not sure if this is effective for lower league teams as you dont normally get good enough wingers who can play both sides, in real life football this is very common, the wingers then move into the center instead of going down the flanks.. you can change this in player instuctions

Alright, gave this tactic a run for a lil while and I gotta admit, it's pretty good. Here's the results so far.

Man Utd 3 - 0 Watford

Red Star 3 - 0 Man Utd

Sheff. Utd 1 - 2 Man Utd

Man Utd 4 - 2 Liverpool (actually the tactic proved its worth in this one, we were down 2-1 at HT, came back to win in a dramatic manner)

Tottenham 1 - 1 Man Utd (dominated the entire game, squandered a lot of opportunities, and if it weren't for a costly giveaway, would've been another win)

Legia 0 - 2 Man Utd

Man Utd 2 - 0 Man City

Everton 0 - 4 Man Utd

Man Utd 3 - 0 Fulham

Man Utd 2 - 0 Celtic

Seems like a pretty good tactic overall, home and away. Seems like nowadays you need 2 tactics one for home and one for away, but maybe you've struck gold here.

I'll try it with different teams and report with some more results.

DBecks7ManU = lol you worried the hell outta me with that loss to RedStar! good job you just mis typed the score :p

mattiebarr1 = my current game is with westham, i made afew sigings though and got a couple of decent players on loan (Seb Deisler!), and im currently top without a loss.

gibson1314 = As 'Jan911' commented the wingers are set to swap positions, if u read my first post i said you should switch this off if you dont have wingers capable of playing both sides relatively well.....although it does lose markers.

-I'm aware of the defenders occasionally giving the ball away but not really found a partically effective manner to deal with it. I dont want to change the fundermental tactic too much as it's proving a mssive hit for everyone.

-I'm very intrested to hear peoples reactions to set-peices....i seem to be letting quite afew in hece i'm owrking on set-peices for the next version.

-Again ALL posative so far, amazing, cheers.

currently doing a bit of experimenting with your tactic, hope you dont mind "fuss" icon_smile.gif instead of using zonal marking i have tried man marking, after 10 matches without winning i won 3-0 away and looking quite good defensively so i was wondering if some of you guys have tried the same?

Ok so i have started my 3rd season as the Ipswich gaffy and after a good pre-season with this tactic which included two 8-0 wins and a 2-0 win over a full Chelsea team i went into the new season full of hope and 5 games in i am happy so far!! Unfortunatly i do not have wingers who can play on both wings so i have had to turn off the swapping.

Burnley (A) 2-0

Cardiff (H) 2-1

Derby (A) 1-3

Wolves (H) 4-0

Walsall (A) 2-1

4 from 5 wins with the only defeat coming against Derby, this was mainly because i had 4 players injured during the game went meant i was playing players out of position and had to play the last 32 minutes with 10 men in which they scored 2 of there goals. Currently sitting 4th with Villa, Fulham and Palace ahead of me, hopefully the tactic can continue performing for me and i can get into the premiership at the 3rd attempt.

Ive used the same tactic for both FM5 and FM6 with succes. I tried to play with it in FM7 as well but im currently lying 24 with Wycombe (2-2-8) so its time for something new and ill try this. I will report back

Hi FuSS, after seeing the positive feedback in this thread I persevered and have started my 4th season in Conf South as follows:

Played 13

Won 7

Draw 4

Lost 2

A massive improvement and even the losses were close matches. The thing that worries me is as usual using the same tactic, AI figures you out in the end. I think you are onto something big here but would like to see tweaked versions for home and away to keep the AI on it's toes.

Will keep you posted.

I'm using the tactic as Tottenham and its working quite well.

Played 16

Won 11

Drew 3

Lost 2

My losses were the first game of the season against Sheffield United and in the league cup third round away at.... Brighton! Best results were probably a 4-1 away win at parma in the uefa cup, 5-2 home win against pompey and 3-0 and 3-1 wins over Bolton and everton respectivly. My only slight gripe with the tactic is that my two strikers hardly ever pass the ball, I mean berbatov passed 14 times last game and defoe only 5 times even though berbatov scored 2 and defoe scored three. The tactic is great though other than that small problem and the strange losses to sheff u and brighton

Remember - players need to find their way with the tactic. Its not going to work over night. At least, it didn't for me. Was a little inconsistent. I tweaked, played around with it....the players got use to it and........FOOTBALL PIE!!! it worked.

have patience. if it still fails for you, look at where the tactic is failing you.

defensive errors? lack of balls through to forwards? etc.

urbanjunkie - very impressed with those scores, id be intrested to know exactly what tweaks you've done.

ajooba - sounds awful, not heard of any results this bad with any tactic!! sounds like u need to start again if thats the best you've done, once you're on a bad down streak and have a demoralised team then its hard for anything to turn it around.

Leandro Davide - every tactic needs time for your team to adjust and needs some tweaks, rooney is not a target man btw...a target man should be big/tall and very good in the air to recieve the corsses.

Trents - glad its going better for you now mate, keep us updated! and dont forget to tweak it around you're team.

Well i've had a couple of negative feedbacks now, but these appear to be from people expecting instant nagicial transfomations...which just dosnt happen.

I'd like some of you to investigate lowering long shots on the strikers and wingers, as it seems harder to score in 07 and i feel too many balls are going widely wide from too far out.

Okay thanx for the tips.

So Rooney isn't a targetman. Klose perhaps?

I always thought that a targetman was a speedy and short striker, very fast and doing everything he can to get the other tall striker in a position to make goals. So i am wrong?

I am now 18 in de EPL with MU, 1 lost and 1 draw.

I am going to give it another try tommorow, but i just don't think it's gonna work.

Rooney and Klose both haven't scored and did get a 5 or 6. Klose even got a 4 in the away match against Charlton.

OK credit where credit is due. This tactic superseeds all others I've tried with Farnborough including:

Yeading 4-1-2-2-1

4-1-2-1-2 W.Brom Def CA

SeXy fOotBalL Eng

RoT Solid(Both Home and Away)

Cleons Work in progress tactic(Which he won't upload icon_wink.gif)

I've given the Minimal FuSS v1 a whole season now and the league results as follows:

Played 42

Won 26

Draw 5

Lost 11

For 80

Against 36

Final postion 3rd and about to embark on the playoffs.

The biggest difference in using this tactic with the smaller teams is the amount of chances that are being created. This tactic doubled and sometimes trebled this figure which is essential when you don't have world class players converting every good chance.

Not only that but the super defensive nature of the back 4 combined with direct passing seems to have solved the problem of defensive mistakes leading to goals. To let in less than a goal a game on average has been unheard of in the past few weeks.

Mr Fuss whoever you may be, if I had a hat on I would take it off to you. The first successful LLM tactic of FM07 icon14.gif

into my 3rd season with afc wimledon now.. after a great run i`m now 4th in league two after 11 mathces. The tactic is working quite well, very consistent, making few errors in defence.

I now have about 5 versions of the tactic, mostly with a version with slower tempo than the original. I also turned of swap position on wingers, and long shots on all players.

It was very anoying with all the wasted oportunitys, strikers shoting from 40 yards instead of passing to a fellow player in a better position.

The only problem i have with this tactic is that sometimes my team only get 50-60 % on passes completed. it helps to turn the tempo to 0.

Have anyone tried to play more direct football? in that case what tempo is best to use? i know that it shold be fast, but my players suck so bad.

nice results.. congratulations. have you tweaked the tactic? </div></BLOCKQUOTE>

I reduced the tackling to normal for defenders as the suspensions were destroying my small squad.

Set closing down for the DL/DR to 5 rather than 12

Restricted the long shots to those who can actually shoot from distance(no-one in my team) otherwise good postions get wasted.

I also get my MC to have Through Balls set to Often

Apart from those, I've left the tactic as per FuSS V1

Link to post

Is it better to have tight marking on or off? Could it be that defenders are too tight to strikers and thus when they get beaten to the ball the striker has a free run on goal?

Also can I ask the reasons for the CD's having closing down set to 0?

This has been the best tactic I've tried so far by miles but sometimes defenders make ailly mistakes that always lead to goals on the break.

Link to post

Testing V2 right now.

-Strikers have recieved mild tweaking

-Long shots reduced (save wastign chances)

-Hard tackling reducded (too many cards)

-Both MCs now equal (though I'm playing with DM/AM setup)

-DR/DL closing down slightly reduced

-DC/DC closing down slightly raised

-Wingers no longer swap (I liked this feature and it works, so feel free to turn it back on, only removed as most people dont have capable wingers)

Set peices still a mystery to me, will work on them for version v3.

Considerations----

= Man marking instead of zonal (without tight marking)

= Set peice setups

= AMC/DMC insead of equal MCs (although still play flat across midfeild)

Link to post

tony starks - currently experimenting with man marking. But for now zonal is much looser than man marking so tigh marking serves to tighten it up abit.

jan911 - I've upped the small strikers mentality, but if you up it too much they will get caught offside, so I prefer nearer to normal.

Trents - Trying some of these out, looks promising, thank you. Will see some milder forms of your tweaks in version 2, well done mate.

Gary derbyshire - Glad to here it, not bad although with afew decent signing I think you can do better, i'm currently number 2 with Westham with a game in hand and only 4 points adrift of chelsea.

Leandro Davide - Its a tough one with Man Utd.

=In real life Rooney plays an almost unique target man role in the hole behinde the main striker, this is quite rare for a player of Rooneys pace and agility.

=Typically a target man is a tall strong presence up front, the rest of the team will try to pick him out and its his job to hold up the ball and pass it on to the clinical stirker to finish the job.

=Think what Teddy Sheringham used to do for England and Adriano for Inter and arguable what Peter Crouch is SUPPOSED to do now (although he's frankly too weak and cant jump).

=Kloser's pretty good for the job...Alan Smith would be fantastic if he were over 6'0"..might still work, not sure.

-----------------------------------------

TARGET MAN:

Important stats (arguable)-

Tall (6'0"+)

Heading

Jumping

Strength

Work Rate

First Touch

Determination

A target man is similar to a good old fashioned centre forward - strong, wins balls in the air, holds up the ball, plays with his back to goal, waiting for support etc. A target man therefore should play in an advanced position and is very useful when playing direct/long passing as he can 'buy' time for your team by holding up the ball to give your midfield the chance to join him in the attack.

Hope that clears it up
