A blog about how we decide what features go into FM games.

Thanks for the info Miles.

It's not regularly that members or buyers get the chance to have so much information about the game and a insight of how it's made and how decisions are made.

Can't wait for more blogs and youtube videos.

Im still proud of myself one of my ideas got in FM10 :) although i dont know if it was already planned offcourse :p Not too long ago (prob around february) i opted for the idea of putting in Sideline shouting as its well known its one of the most important things in RL football. Now reading up on the new features and what do i see? The feature is in!! Great :) Now i dont want to be cocky, but it makes me proud that at least my thinking was in the right direction....

Now lets hope some of my other ideas are also implemented. Here a short list of them

-Bigger and better trainingreport. Not monthly but weekly so ill know who is in form and who is being a ****** in training

- Back to the old training schedule. No sliders, but schedules from time to time. For Example 10:30 pig in the middle and 12:00 Tactical training

- Not only team talks for Pre, half time or full time, but also for subs

- options in contracts. For example a contract for 3 seasons with the option to extend it with another 2 or an automatic extention after X games.

- Performance based contracts.

- To tell a player what your ambitons are in the short and long term. For example 'I want to build my squad around you the next years' or 'in 5 year we want to win the title' Just like they did with robinho at City....and offer him a ******** of money offcourse... :p

- Early the proccessing date for the new season. For some competitions thats in july and i miss out on a lot of players cause i dont have any money yet to spend.

- Being able to play as an existing manager, with all the right data etc etc

- New stats. Not 1 - 20 but extended stats...for example 1 - 100 to make the variety between players bigger and makes it easier for us to spot specialists.

- Not to have a DR being shown as a DRC but when his best position is DR..just name it plain DR and have a second postion between () for example Edson Braafheid who is a DL but can also play as a DC. He would show as a DL©. This way you will know him primary position.

- Making it publicly known that you will leave at the end of the season as a coach.

- sending out scouts to search for players of which the contract ends in 6 months and can be signed on a FT.

- For us LLM'ers the ability to put in an exact amount which you want to pay. a difference of 25k is big for a LL club

- Make a selection for away games. Normally managers pick 18 players who will come to an away game

- Go on a bootcamp just before a game to enhance mentality

- Foreign tours for money. you get invited to Asia to play some matches and make a s***load of money :)

- More info about other teams, players and competitions. Now i get asked who will win the World player of the year in 2025 and i dont know any of the players...why bother then :p

So this is just a small list of my ideas....

I wonder, do SI also have a schedule for improvements to existing features?

I take the media as an example: nice one, but clearly still too repetetive and it's pretty clear that as a manager you should answer x in situation y or face a serious backlash, too predictable. I would assume you only have so much time and resources, how much balancing goes into making such features more enjoyable versus creating new features?

Also: do certain things take priority? The depiction of reality over game features, for example? I'm thinking about the Dutch league here. Finally the real world system is opened up and any Dutch FM fan worth his salt is dying to get playing in the Dutch lower leagues. Yet I've heard through the grapevine that for the time being, there won't be an extension of the Dutch competitions in FM.

Oh and as an LLM: stop wasting your time on editors :p:D

Some of the are prety nice, but some (for example, exact amount you want to pay for LLM'ers will be annoying for big club managers) still has a lot to think about.

Does anyone know if reputations have been looked at as part of the "polish." I have read most of the posts recently and people have referred to dynamic reputations which I am assuming is one and the same thing but I don't recall seeing a response as to whether it has been tackled.

As an example of what I am referring to - I have just taken over Norwich who are bottom of the league (fairly accurate pre-lambert ;-) ) but despite the fact that they haven't won in months the odds and previews all have been expected to beat everyone. I can only assume this is related to the club's reputation being bigger than those of my opponents but IRL predictions would surely take into account form etc?

Should a :p be added to your question? Or have you read NOTHING about FM10?

I read everything about FM10. Do You mean league editor? It's not really the same as official league, isn't it? For example I doubt it's possible to create a leage with 10 teams, whith complex fixtures: 1st and 2nd lap every team plays every team, but 3rd and 4th lap thera are absolutely another playing order - the best 6 teams plays each other but don't play with the last 4 teams. Do You believe it could be possible to create such a league in fm editor?

Sounds like you're describing a system similar to the Scottish Premier League, so I'd guess you can do that in the editor. Since so much can be created with the editor, I doubt SI will also be adding leagues to the database any more. Of course, I don't know until that make further official announcements from next week.

Heyy Miles once again thanks for the blogs. I remember my first footy management game. CM4 and my first Fm05 (which i won from Donny Rovers) and have always enjoyed that level of control.

And being autistic, communicating with others helped me increase my social skills and maths too so thanks alot for that.

Can you give us some screenshots of fm data editor in action? so we can see how beautiful this new game looks in comparison to the previous incarnations?

Thanks

Thanks for the post, which has made my day - I'm glad we were able to help!

There will be some more screenshots of the new data editor when we blog about it - it's on the schedule for at least 2 days of blogs, but there are some other things to talk about first. You can see the first couple of new feature blogs by going to the blogs sticky thread and clicking on the links.

I think the idea of having somewhere to tell if your request was accepted or rejected or pending, or whatever was a good idea.... Is that possible?

What are the reasons for a request just being rejected straight away?

where do we post these ideas?

I wish we could negotiate a very important cute of the clubs revenues, i'm referring to the sponsorship. With a database of brands, we should be able to negotiate with any brand, the deal value, how many years, and the deal type (shirts, stadium, etc...)

Do you really think that is managers job?

Welcome to the forums. (Y)

Dear Miles Jacobson,

I think that there is a big bug in the official release.

I'm from Belgium and I bought FM2010 today. I've installed the game offline and will activate it on friday on Steam.

Now I play with a friend online (using Hamachi). And when he has a match to play I can not watch his game. Normally when we click on Last Results we could watch other managers matches. But it worked only onces and since it doesn't worked.

Sorry for my bad English.

Grateful,

Ali
