I've never asked a player to take an injection, they're really not good for you in the long run, I remember hearing about some Scottish footballer who was continually asked to take injections, the guy can't walk now. The closest I've come was just before a big game when my best striker was injured, the physio said he would be out for 2 weeks with the injection, and out for 2 weeks with it. In the end I decided not to give it him (as I felt a spell on the sidelines would do him good as his form was so awful) and in the end a week later he'd fully recovered. IIRC the downsides we thought were: 1) Cost to club 2) Player loosing Morale if being away from team Im sure there were more but they have gone. Putting this in mind, it seems you probably could manage this with injection. In my Leicester game, matty fryatt collapsed on the pitch with a hip injury and the injections prompt appeared. I'm in the US and a player for the Boston Red Sox had a hip injury and he received injections that got him through about a month. Unfortunately the problem got worse and he had to have surgery on it (probably would have had to have surgery without the injections) and he ended up missing the end of the season and the playoffs, about 2 months and really won't be ready to play until the regular season, which means he'll be off for about 6 months total. Even if i had a big game coming up and he was a key player, id rather him miss that go to a specialist and be out for a couple of months other than risk him with injections he can be out for anything from 6 months up to 10 months. But maybe thats just me lol some people out there might want the option to get a couple more games out of him then loose him for up to 10 months which is just 2 months short of a full year hehe. It was decided that he would take injections to reduce the pain and allow him to bowl on the final day and complete the fracture, which would in turn mean that his foot would heal more completely if take a little longer. I think you will find that this is not something SI just thought would be a good idea, it is a common possibility (if not a common occurrence) in football. He might be out for a long time because he is going to have surgery, until he has that surgery he can still play if he has injections to stop the pain. There are other situations like that.
