Football League Squads

I noticed over the weekend that the football league squads only had 5 subs in stead of 7 when did this change? i prefer the 7 subs.

Changed at the start of the new season after consultation with the 72 clubs. Seems like some just don't have the squads to name 18 players a week.

Some clubs with smaller squads complained about not having enough players to fill the bench. However a few clubs have a lot of players now just sitting around not playing(my team Peterborough, included). I would say I prefer the 7 subs but not too bothered.

A lot of managers complained about this, saying stuff like it will effect the youth if they cant put them on the bench and stuff.

I cant see why they couldnt have just made it 7, but if you only wanted to have 5 you could do that 2.

I am not convinced that the 5 sub rule in FL is here to stay. My own guess is that it will be reverted back to 7 in a couple of seasons' time.

Is there any chance the Football League could consider such a change of rules in FM2012? The change shouldn't be pre-determined to happen, of course, but at least we can agree there is a fair chance that the clubs will reconsider the rule at some point in the future.

I don't know why they have to use odd numbers. Why not compromise and name six?

I will not manage in the FL if it's only 5, I have got so used to 7. I'm sure there will be some edited DBs knocking about where people have changed it back to 7.

i can understand why it should only be five for league 1 and 2 because most clubs have small squads and money is tight. but in the championship, most clubs have plenty of players and 7 would be more logical.

I don't see why it matters, bigger teams will still have bigger squads, but if anything they will be able to have a higher quality, and less need for youth players.

Thought 7 was a great idea and a team can always name those players, use the damn youngsters!

The rule was a maximum of 7 substitutes. You could name 2 subs each week if you wanted, it's an absolutely stupid rule change. There are young players in FL clubs that won't be getting the experience that they would of got simply because there isn't enough room on the bench now.
