Vangelis21
parachute payment windfall? What is that exactly? who gets it and why? thanks
dafuge
It is when a club that had recently been relegated from the Premier League wins promotion again. The parachute payments that they would have got in the Championship no longer apply and are shared amongst the other clubs instead.
Vangelis21
and why don't the promoted team get it and it is shared to others?
dafuge
Because they will be back in the Premier League and won't need the support of the parachute payments any more.
Vangelis21
hm interesting. but i got promoted in League 2 and got some payments. should this have happened even there or it is only between premier and l1?
dafuge
I'm pretty sure that the payments get spread out across the entire Football League, so that should be right.
Vangelis21
ok thanks, it was a nice little treat if nothing goes wrong, it will be the first time in 3 years that i will have a positive balance
dontask
if a team gets relegated from the premier league then they get parachute payments for 2 seasons to help cover the bigger overheads. if that team then get promoted 1st season back to the premier (i.e newcastle last season) then they dont recieve the payment for the 2nd season and instead its split between all the clubs in the football league
stevio11
And lets hope the game gets it right as the rules have changed to 4 seasons form now
HighT
Basically West Brom In real life are funding the entire football league in unneeded parachute payments.
fcunitedfan
I just got a parachute payment and was really confused by it. Glad it's been explained recently as I would never have understood why I even got it lol.
InterWolf
Rofl. They're quite well known.
fcunitedfan
Not when you don't follow the bigger english leagues. My teams are FC United (obviously) and Histon (because I grew up living there), and neither of them qualify for the parachute payment.
Krald
I have to admit I didn't know it really, was nice when promoted from coca cola league 2 getting 50k from three parachute payments though, makes me want the same teams promoted that got relegated every season till I reach the championship
fcunitedfan
I got 150k from it, which I was really happy about.
XJ6
the clubs who get relegated from EPL get a massive 8 figure sum for 3 years afterwards, other payments get given to all the other teams every year.
Nottingham Forest
the clubs who get relegated from EPL get a massive 8 figure sum for 3 years afterwards, other payments get given to all the other teams every year. They get four years now. £16m a year for the first 2 years and then £8m for the 3rd and 4th year. If a relegated team goes up at the first attempt then on FM if you are in the Championship you get £400k I think and £50k(like someone has mentioned) for League 2. Although im not to sure what you get for League 1.
fcunitedfan
I got three lots of 50k at the start of the same season. Can't get much luckier than that
Nottingham Forest
I got three lots of 50k at the start of the same season. Can't get much luckier than that That must have meant that all the teams that got relegated went up at the first time of asking. I think it a is a good thing to have as it helps littler teams who need the money more.
fcunitedfan
It took FC United's balance over £1million so I can't complain
