baker.simon
I dont think they can do it with real players, something to do with legal issues maybe? For re-gens, i've never seen it myself so cant comment on that.

arsenal_2111
I remember someone saying that one of his players who broke his back in the game and retired the next day so yes, if the poster was being honest, they are.
Neji
Only if his name is Lee Majors You beat me to it I know injuries can have a massive effect on players but I've never seen one retire, although I do think I've seen this mentioned on here.

Damian227
Yes there are, I had a young Left winger who played for my Oxford United side and who became a regular in the premiership. He was a wonderkid and really started to look special in his early 20's, then he had a bad knee injury at 21. He'd be back, then out again, back and out again, sometimes weeks but usually months. Finally seemed to shake it off after two seasons though it was clear in reports he had injury issues. Then after a nice run and starting to refind his form, he damaged it again and was out for months, this time it said something like "Is considering retirement due to injury" and that was it, after a few more weeks I got an announcement he was retiring due to becoming injury prone and suffering long term problems... gone at 24, I was gutted because he looked to be the next Ronaldo until the second injury. Goobertron
I actually think FM is a bit soft when it comes to injuries. I rarely, if ever, have players get injured for more than 6 months. I never seem to see Eduardo type injuries or injuries like Rosicky who's out for a 12 months+ which an injury the refuses to go. I think in the next FM game we should see more recurring injuries and when a player does get injured the amount of time he's out should be no accurate. Its pretty common for players to get injured the length of time he's out to be fairly vague and for comebacks to repeatedly delayed. Taking Rosicky as an example again no one really knew when he'd likely return and he ended up missing a whole season.
9sublime
I've had older players who've come back from injury (33+) say they considered retirement at their injury due to their old age and the longevity of the injury. That might have been 07 0r 08.

I agree in a sense but can you imagine how many people would be on here maoning about injuries. It was bad this year for people moaning and whinging. Do we really want more of the same for FM2010? mrsl
Once I had 34-year-old player who got injured for 7-9 months during September. Immediately after that he announced that he will retire after the season, and he did.

For re-gens, i've never seen it myself so cant comment on that. the old EA´s FA managers had the option to get insurance for your players that would get you compensation in case of carreer ending injuries so I don´t think legalities is the issue

paul_dalglish
In my Parma game I had David James on my shortlist in the first season and he broke his Ankle/leg and said he'd be retiring at the end of the season because of it.
Ferthepoet
In cm0102 there was this thing that when a player got injured to oftenly you could send him to a specialist and he would say something along the lines of he has a chronic issue that can be repaired by surgery resulting in player missing 6 month to a year or you could keep playing the player but he would continue to be injury prone or could even suffer a career ending injury... I dunno why that was taken back should be put back in

uclazy31
ive only seen it a couple times. im glad there arent more injuries of greater length. im tired of losing 6 players at a time to injuries for months. i play mls often and there you can only have 18 senior players. losing 6 starters at a time is rough.
