Mattias333
Almere City were my bogey team in my first season with AGOVV. I won the league but god it was close no thanx to Almere City.
Dexter_Morgan
I hope you get that little run needed to make the playoffs, it's really tight around there.
Jason the Yank
Friday, 6 March, 2015 MVV 2-1 Almere City (Jupiler League) Attendance: 5,851 Fell behind after 4 minutes when ten Kroode got a hand to the ball only for it to land at the far post where an MVV attack could pounce on it. Fell behind further coming out of halftime when we failed to deal with a corner. Pulled one back late when the right wing cheekily snuck one past the keeper at the near post from the end line, but that was it. Had a chance late in stoppage time, but the MVV keeper came up with a good save. Monday, 9 March, 2015 Almere City 2-1 AGOVV (Jupiler League) Attendance: 1,264 The match was not as close as the score suggests. We had 57% of possession and fired 18 shots, but only put 8 of them on target. We went up in the 16th minute off a free kick that curled into the path of our right wing, only to give the lead up 4 minutes later when the central defense was split. We appeared to have taken the lead in the 37th minute, only for it to be ruled out for a dubious offside call. Took the lead for good in the 56th off of an excellent pass and shot in tight space in the penalty area. Friday, 13 March, 2015 Sparta 3-2 Almere City (Jupiler League) Attendance: 6,087 A microcosm of my time in the Netherlands. The scouting report said Sparta had trouble against a 4-4-2, so I pulled one out of my bag of tricks. It was a fairly even match, and we finally scored from a corner with the center back Ottenhoff providing a header in the 24th minute. We went into halftime level, and I told the team to not get complacent, to mixed reactions (some gained focus, some were "confused", although I don't know what's confusing about being told to keep your head in the match). Anyway, Sparta appeared to change formations and leveled the match in the 48th minute when Buballa (making his first appearance for us, due to the starting left back picking up 2 yellows the previous match), left his man, who made us for pay for that walkabout. As I was getting ready to switch formations to counter Sparta's apparant 4-3-3, a ball went into our area which Ottenhoff .... walked into our own net? A real WTF moment. And yet...we battled back, with Nade half-volleying a header from himself, sneaking it near post to level the match in the 90th minute. I figured I'd be happy with an away draw at that point, so I switched the team mentality from "attacking" to "defensive"...only for Sparta to split my center backs and clinch the winner in stoppage time. A point just thrown away, hell 3 points thrown away. 2014-15 Jupiler League (through 30 of 34 rounds) 1. SC Cambuur 55 2. Excelsior 54 3. MVV 53 4. Helmond Spt. 49 5. Volendam 45 (+11) 6. We're 5 points adrift of them, even if one of the qualified teams wins the title and causes the playoff zone to include the 9th placed side. Things are still in our hands as we have home matches against Dordrecht (7th) and Eindhoven (9th) before finishing away to Telstar (6th) and Emmen (10th), but realistically I don't see this team getting enough results against those four to scrape in. And even if we do, I expect we'd be a one-and-done side. At the moment my job is stable, and even in 14th the board see it as meeting the expectation of a mid-table spot. So barring a total collapse in the final four matches, I could see them offering a new deal. I'm not sure I'll take it though. Even with Almere I have players who consider themselves too big for me. Thinking I might need to drop a level. The Jupiler League is rated at 2 stars, and I'm thinking I may need to go to a 1-1/2 or even a 1 star league like the lower tiers in Scandinavia or Scotland. Jason the Yank
Friday, 27 March, 2015 Almere City 1-1 FC Dordrecht (Jupiler League) Attendance: 1,186 More shots, more shots on target, more possession, but spurning two good opportunities to add to a lead came back to cost us. Friday, 3 April, 2015 Almere City 4-2 FC Eindhoven (Jupiler League) Attendance: 1,346 A crazy, crazy match. We went up in the 12th minute when our ball-winning midfielder Sutter ripped a low drive from 30 yards out. We gave up the lead after conceding not one but TWO (soft) penalties. Fought back to level the score just before halftime when our AMC Oost connected with a diving header. At halftime I told the team to just keep going, and made a slight tactical tweak. We responded in the second half with Nade finding the right wing Meulens, who was able to get off a shot in tight space that found the far post. Added an insurance goal when Nade crouched to head in a cross, and we saw out the game despite going down to 10 men in the 85th minute when Nade went off with an injury. Friday, 17 April, 2015 Telstar 2-1 Almere City (Jupiler League) Attendance: 2,901 After a dull as dishwater first half, things opened up in the second half, unfortunately for us. Some comedy defending in the 78th minute resulted in three of our players taking the man with the ball on the wing, leaving 2 Telstar players all by their themselves to our goalkeeper's left. He had no chance. We managed an almost instant reply to draw level. But we were condemned to defeat in the 88th minute when we lost a mark off a free kick, resulting in a Telstar attacker being one-on-one with the goalkeeper, who couldn't keep it out. And with that, we've lost 7 straight away from home, and cannot finish in the playoff spots. Friday, 24 April, 2015 FC Emmen 2-3 Almere City (Jupiler League) Attendance: 2,770 An excellent away performance to end the season, as our wing play led us to victory. Meulens, the right wing, scored a brace, whilst the left wing Serrarens added the third. Some slack defending again to gift Emmen their two goals, but we never trailed in the match. A pretty frustrating season all around, what with my inability to get De Graafschaap firing, resulting in my sacking. Almere City was slightly better in the sense that at least I improved their league position over the course of the season, but I still had assistant reports telling me that several players were finding it hard to motivate themselves for me. And I (want to) believe that's at least partly to blame for our defensive breakdowns, and especially our tendency to loiter on the ball and get it tackled away easily. My contract expires at the end of June, and the board have not offered a new one. Maybe they're waiting until the playoffs end and the season officially concludes, but I'm probably going to save them the trouble and step down of my own accord. Jason the Yank
The only way is up. Gave a lot of thought to taking the FC Roskilde job in Denmark, but decided against it as they were hovering just over the drop zone and Denmark has a bunch of rules to give young players some time, and Roskilde wanted me to develop players through the academy, except the youth facilities are awful. I ended up going a little further north, to Carlstad United, a semi-pro club in Swedish's Second Division South Svealand. The media seems to think I'm taking a big step down; clearly they're not familiar with how my career has gone to date. Welcome to Tingvalla IP....
