    If you don't have meaningful games towards the end then it loses value, hence my idea. If only the top team in each group went through you'd have a vast majority of gameday 4 and 5 games being meaningless.

    As it stands, Poland v Australia and France v Argentina on the other side of the draw. Saudi Arabia could still sneak in there somewhere depending on results. Win and a draw for Poland / Argentina sees a Saudi v Aussie R16 game, or a win for Poland and draw for Saudi sees them vs France.

    48 teams should be groups of 6: Winners go through and a bye to the last 16. 2nd and 3rd go into a knockout round against teams in adjacent groups Then have the final 16. I'm not that bothered about the extra 3 games, extends the WC by another week or so but I think that's better than the farce of 3 team groups.

    Quietly optimistic at the moment, considering Kane isn't firing yet. Was a bit worried that we didn't just start Wilson against Wales, as well as some of the other fringe players in the squad. I worry what would happen if Stones, Rice or Kane had to miss a game or come off early in one of these KO rounds. We can definitely beat the rest of the teams on our day in the competition, won't start dreaming until my birthday though (Quarter Finals).

    Mbappe could be Welsh and Page would still be pretty poor, IMO. He's not tactically great.

    I'd say the semi retired Wales players probably got them to the World Cup more than Rob Page did, tbf. But then I'm biased as he was a former manager of the Vale and not very good either.

    Iran playing for a draw, USA walking over them. England playing like its a dead rubber and weird team selection (not rotating Kane?) Can easily see a 0-0 finish for England and 2-0 USA as Iran push for an equaliser and it backfires.

    No change after second games for me. As things stand, R16s look like this: Probably won't pan out that way for some sides, but looks interesting. Still with Brazil to win the thing for now.

    I think you're getting a bit too reactive to Rob's posts tbh. And thanks for the context, makes a bit more sense to me now at least. But fair enough, there's another game now anyway

    Yeah gutted at the result earlier as Germany barely need a result here unless not to get completely battered. A team going through on 3 points and GD would just be wrong.

    Just a certain irony in having a go like while trying to say Croatia are also loads better at the same time. Have some perspective, Croatia yet to have a serious test yet either. FWIW, I think England might still have issues in the R16, never mind QFs against a likely France.

    They are like that with all the anglosphere nations, its not just Keown. USA just about escape it due to the players in the PL. Good experience for Canada ahead of 2026.
