  1. Another suggestion,

How about a straight up DM on defend? They've worked relatively well in the past for me in being incredibly dull and boring, which isn't a bad thing in this case

I also echo what your saying about the half back and anchorman. The half back is kind of playmakerish without being a ball magnet or anything like that, fully get where your coming from. And I've never actually managed to get an anchorman to actually "anchor" my midfield to my defence, they seem to more hover about trying to cut out potential danger (which is great when you want it, not that I ever have) as opposed to actually being an anchor.

In my opinion it wont work Away, defensive phase will be weak:

    WB - At: No.

Focus Play Through the Middle: No.

    Distribute To Centre-Back: No.

    Counter-Press: Risky, but.

    More Urgent - Risky, but.

T - At: Inefficient with current engine.

RGA - Su: Inefficent with defensive phase.

    Play Out Of Defence: Unnecessary.

    Be More Expressive: Unnecessary.

    Counter: Unnecessary.

You can eventually plays yours at home and make some changes while playing Away.

Disagree with this, although its nothing personal. In my opinion its the biggest misconception in football second to none.

Playing away from home is no different to playing at home (baring in places like Italy and South America where some wollys have square/abnormally long pitches, making this the only difference). Grass is grass, football is football. You don't go away to Liverpool and lose cause they play on concrete, you lose cause theyre really good. You dont go away to Accrington Stanley and batter them cause theyre pitch suits you, its cause theyre awful. What matters is the opponent. If I'm playing Liverpool away or at home Ill probably play the same team, tactic, instructions, the lot. Similarly if I'm playing Accrington Stanley either home or away Ill probably play a different system to against Liverpool (due to the difference in quality of opposition), but it wouldn't vary home or away.

Football is football at the end of the day.

Real Sociedad (Real San Sebastian in-game if you haven't fixed names). Got some experienced older pros (Illarramendi, for example), one of the best GKs for a club of that level in Rulli, the faded starlet in Adnan Januzaj, and some young talents in Oyarzabal and Mikel Merino (the latter is probably only a year or two younger than Januzaj tbh, as he's only 24), and the on-loan Théo Hernandez. A decent stadium - around 33k - won't have much in the way of debts (they never did on previous versions) and money will be tight to start with which will force you to get creative (again, going off previous editions, I don't see why it'd suddenly change now), but Europa League is a reasonable goal for 1st season, and you can turn yourselves into a Champions League club in 2-3 seasons with smart transfer activity. Also Willian Jose is a beast up front.

Also a very good option, but the names would annoy me

Theres a fix on fmscout isnt there?

@OJ403 would look at Lille first though, Pepe, Maia, Xeka, Bamba to start with. 50k stadium. Some experienced players like Jose Fonte and Remy. Should be a fun save.

You might well have got it first time there. That does sound like a very solid option

  5. Can I make a similar request?

Maybe a French or Spanish team, preferably Ligue 1 or La Liga with a few decent young prospects and a fun side who could play attractive football early on and hopefully qualify for Europe within a few seasons. But then any other big leagues are welcome, preferably Ligue 1 or La Liga as they are they only ones Ive never managed in, but all are welcome.

    Cheers

  6. I think its my turn to have a bit of a tantrum.

Really struggling to get a decent possession based 4-3-3 or whatever the game calls it going. We either have possession and no penetration, no possession but penetration but as a result no control over games, or none of either. Ive had a save file corrupt (incidentally where I got harshly sacked from Brighton playing possession, landed the Napoli job set up a system that I didnt like but got steadyish regularish possesion but ultimately collapsed), got sacked from Derby, gave up with Genk and got bored with Ajax. Im sure you can see a trend. The idea fails and I either get sacked or have a fit.

Now Ive started with Fiorentina as there squad seems relatively well suited to this, Im currently in the late stages of preseason and, shock horror, the systems sh*t. I really can't see how to make it work, and I know its preseason but its one of them when you know it wont work you know. So some help would be appreciated.

I won't be providing screen shots of my tactic just yet as there are no screen shots to provide as nothing is decided as yet, no TIs or roles or duties or anything. So theres no point just yet, there might be eventually and then Ill post away. So as for what Im after its fairly straightforward, a 4-1-2-3 DM wide that controls games, has decent amounts of possession but also penetration. I want goals, excitement and as a result possession. As for my squad, my star players are probably Simeone, Chiesa and Benassi.

Simeone is a really good goalscorer. Physically hes either 13 or 14 for all attributes but natural fitness (12). Mentally hes got all the stats of an allround goalscoring striker baring probably 11 vision and flair, hes also braveish (13), a great anticipater (16), a workhorse (15 work rate) and off the ball (15). Technically hes a great goal getter (15 finishing, 17 heading and 13 dribbling and first touch), however he cant pass amazingly (12). So simply the only things he can't do is pass (12 passing, 11 vision). As a result I'm leaning towards more of a solely goalscoring striker, focusing on spearing the system and occupying centre halves in order to allow the more creative players to do the exciting stuff rather than joining in himself. But anythings an option.

Chiesa is literally amazing. There's no role out wide he can't play. I know I'm not providing much information on him, but he could successfully play a winger on the right, IF on the left or a raumdeuter, trequartista or an AP on either side. Easily. Im leaning towards either a winger or AP-A on the right, but I'm open to change that, very open.

Finally Benassi is a great all round midfielder. Mentally hes class, physically hes class and technically unless you ask him to dribble (10). The only roles I wouldn't use him as are a mezzala cause he can't dribble, or a BWM as it wastes his attacking qualities or as the main holding player. I'm leaning towards some kind of playmaker duty (probably AP or RPM as I want him in and around the box) or a box to box, but yet again any ideas are good ideas.

Transfer wise Im signing Kevin Mbabu to play right back, he could play any role. And Im after a defensive midfielder, currently Im leaning towards Tonali to play probably DLP-D/S or a regista, but that could yet change to more of a bruiser of a player.

So yeah, any advice as to how to go about building the sort of system Ive spoke about with the players I've spoke about would be more than welcome. I'm literally open to anything and I'll answer any questions anyone may have. Also, apologies I seem to have written quite alot, way more than I intended to, but it all felt relevant.

    Cheers in advance

A couple of reasons, really. We've got plenty of money in the bank, so we don't need the revenue right away. The big one is that spreading out the revenue makes Financial Fair Play easier to achieve (as we run at a loss without transfer revenue) and - it's purely anecdotal - but we seem to be able to negotiate larger fees when it's future installments.

Cheers mate. Knew youd be able to explain it. Hadnt considered the ffp at all, I'm usually pretty direct and rather take the money upfront. In fact, the only clauses I usually take are high percentage of next sale and a buy back; explains why I've broke ffp a few times.

    Quality advice. Cheers

Alright mate. Firstly what a quality thread.

Just a quick question about the deals really. I get why your selling the players, but find the fact that the upfront fee is nothing abit odd, or at least Ive not encountered it before.

Any chance you could explain why? I'm sure its a really good reason, just I can't figure it out.

    Cheers

His path to the job was an odd one, too. Leaving Derby for Palace...who he left for QPR...who he left for Bristol City...who he left for Watford...who sacked him.  Got sacked by West Brom.  Then 2 years back at Derby, before taking  over the national team.  Seemed to be always looking out for something "better."

Thats him all over. Not quite sure what the Stoke/Brummie contingent is on here but thats pure Rowett. When he gets the job its his dream job, cons the fans into loving him, then leaves them in the sh*t when he spies more money.

Out of interest whats your record like against him?

Just wondering with the over/underlap options. Previously they were universal and applied to to both sides, ie you could only look for the over/underlap on the right and left simultaneously or not at all. However this graphic makes me question if you can combine them freely. For example, can you look for the right overlap, but left underlap, or vice-versa, or the over/underlap on one side and neither on the other?

This makes it pointless writing stuff though if people just ask questions that's already answered in the opening posts :D

Haha. Yeah I suppose so. Just couldn't remember if you had mentioned it or not. Tbf I thought there was more than two pages and more posts on the topic. Was just thinking of a variant where the CMs were pushed up as AMs and the STs out wide as Raumdeuters, to sort of make a box in a box to help defend the flanks. And I am aware the Raumdeuter isn't the most defensive of roles, but a body is a body

My favourite ever save was in Norway, and I managed to turn a little club from north of the Arctic Circle into the biggest club in Europe.

The league restricts you to 9 foreign players which means you have to concentrate on youth, either from your academy or by signing players of 18 and under to become homegrown, or you have to seriously consider who you buy. You also have to sell players because there are limited funds even after European success, which means the save maintains a challenge over time.

By any chance did you write about that save?

  13. Inspired by some threads on here (namely those by @ManUtd1, @noikeee & @Makoto Nakamura) and want to do a journeyman for FM19. But I don't want to plod along from job to job, I want to have a goal. Already thought of trying to bring glory to the Red Bull sides and had winning the Champions League with sides that have lost to Real Madrid in finals suggested.

Anyone got any other ideas, this will be my only save for FM19?

How about teams that have lost to Real Madrid in the CL / European Cup final?

If you did them in order it would be: Stade de Reims, Fiorentina, A.C. Milan, (Reims again), Eintracht Frankfurt, Partizan, Juventus, Valencia, Bayer Leverkusen, Atletico Madrid and Liverpool.

That Real Madrid thing sounds bloody genius, some genuinely interesting sides in there as well, like A.C. and Liverpool, plus Partizan giving me a chance to manage in an obscure league

  15. Not really sure what save to do as I like to have an "attachment" to the side I'm managing, or at least ideally it be easy to develop one. I am a Derby County fan so have done those saves to death and kind of want to see what FM Frankie can do. I have also done a LLM save with my 2nd team Nuneaton Town, and don't want to repeat myself. I'm also a bit bored of doing the pick a team and try and win the UCL as my only goal. Has anybody got any ideas as to an interesting team to use which I could develop a liking to but not just plod along to European success? I would kind of like to do a journeyman save, but again just plodding from job to job doesn't appeal, I would need a goal or concept, such as managing the Red Bull sides one by one. Thanks
