  1. Under debate according to this: https://europeanlawblog.eu/2012/03/08/copyright-for-football-league-fixture-lists/. And only England still trying this particular copyright scam. And even so, that only covers the fixture list - juggle the dates and you should be able have all the teams on the right points and goals scored/conceded whilst not using the actual ('copyrighted') fixture list. In regard to results: Therefore, football matches as unprocessed events cannot be protected as works. Moreover, single moves and the performing by the athletes of specific arrangements coordinated by the trainer could be seen either as mere expressions of skill or as methods, systems or ideas, which are unlikely to meet the “expression” criterion, which was expressly established as an individual component of the EU concept of a work in the Levola decision. But as with everything in the insane world of copyright - the **** with the most expensive lawyers gets the interpretation they want. EDIT: Ruling was made back in 2012. Not seen anything to contradict it that's more recent. Quote was from 2022 article, so looks like position hasn't changed.
  2. Yep non-negotiable initial approaches simply shouldn't exist. (Ring Ring) Hello is that {WHU manager)? Yes. Who am I speaking to? I'm the manager of Nowhere Unathlectic, you didn't know I existed until this call, but give me your great youth prospect until the end of the season for nothing. That's all.
  3. One of the reasons FM23 is so unsatisfying is that the transfer market is so annoying. As just one example I've just been through a deadline day where Juventus have systematically come in for each of my AM or ST options (used in first team rotation) including my main striker and top scorer - not even with transfer offers, which I may have considered at the right price, but as loans. Why on earth would I want to loan out my main striker to a Champions League rival in the winter window. Other than that I got offers for U21 players (mainly locked £0 loan offers of course) and someone picked up an out of contract player. But did I get any real transfer offers? No; not one. Interest in transfer listed players? Don't be stupid ... And don't get me started on 'Offer to Clubs' - inevitably comes back with a message saying club is interested but does not have wage budget (EPL wages, right?) - so give me a counter offer; if you're interested tell me what wage contribution you want; don't make me guess what you might afford and have to offer out again. And that's an AI general comment - NEGOTIATE!!! Stop with all the locked bids.
  4. Agree with the general sentiment of what you'd like to see change. Specifically on UI I think it just needs to be made more efficient in a lot of places to improve workflow and reduce clicks (unfortunately many recent additions seem to be drastically increasing the number of clicks (e.g. meetings)) - need to find a balance between stylish game presentation and an efficient data dashboard. As far as the tactics screen is concerned - I'm not sure that really needs to change that much. It is effective and practical in allowing you to set things up. I would only expect a significant change if the way we build tactics was revised.
  5. You can hover over those two bars - gives a meaningful breakdown on familiarity. Intensity, just a description, I guess it is based on tempo, pressing etc.
  6. So, in the end. I gave it two more goes. First with your tactic with all the PIs removed and the same TI changes I made with my first attempt. Went 1-0 up, but that came from a penalty and a Lazio red card, so I abandoned that as the red card made it a null and void test whichever way it turned out. Then decided to plug in my tactic from my West Ham save which is a pretty ordinary 4-2-3-1 - result was much the same as my first attempt - I lost the game by a goal and so won the tie by 1 goal based on the 2-0 lead from your first leg. Fun game, though. And has made me think I'd rather be in the EPL facing Haaland than Immobile in your game!
  7. Didn't win the game, but did win the tie. Started with your formation and assman team selection; only changed TIs initially. After the first Lazio goal went in got an assman message about a player getting dragged out of position due to MM - that's when I realised you've got a bunch of PIs in place. So I might give it another go having looked at those - MM definitely causing you issues. Also think you can be a bit braver with the wingbacks - I pushed one up to support to get the goal.
  8. It would likely become just as tedious as the multiple choice interactions we have now. Difference would be instead of always clicking the same answer, you'd be making sure to always include the right keywords to get the in-game effect you want.
  9. In a Europa League match, just had the referee go to the VAR screen (the animated jog to the sideline) for a red card VAR review. Is this new, or just something I've not seen before? Either way, nice surprise to come across something I've not had before.
  10. This thread makes for sad reading. The changes to the decline of older players in FM22 was not properly accounted for and still hasn't been compensated for in FM23. But this is a subset of the wider issue that every system that is based on reputation is broken to some degree. And worse, that it appears that SI have been leaning more heavily into reputation all around the game as a shortcut to realism in the early seasons. The trouble with reputation, whether it applies to players, managers or teams, is that it is a long term measure, but a large chunk of the decision making in the game needs to be shorter term - a player performing well in the U18s needs a chance in the first team' the young manager who's got back to back promotions in the lower leagues needs to attract the attention of bigger clubs quicker. Basically the game needs a short term 'hype' measure that runs alongside reputation that can rise and fall extremely rapidly and affect decisions that become sterile under the reputation system. Basically as the introduction of poor touch and more mistakes has added a bit of chaos to the ME; 'hype' is needed to add some chaos into player development and player and manager movements. As an example of how this would help one scenario in this thread - and old player (let's call him Lewandowski) may have sky-high reputation from being a top player for many years, but would have low hype as he's seen as in the twilight of his career - this would stop him getting a move to Liverpool at 37 (yes, real FM22 transfer) in favour of a younger, lower reputation, but high hype player.
  11. It has been - doesn't mean you're now immune to a ball over the top every now and again (or a lot if you're lower league). Got done by one in my first match after the patch (defender jumped under the ball), but nothing since. I play a high line and that's the risk I take and accept. In your case the defender clearly got done by the bounce of the ball - forward judged it better,
  12. Early impressions of the ME, playing as a European spot contender in the EPL and on comprehensive highlights, is that things are a lot more controlled following the patch. The mistakes and interceptions are still there, but not quite as 'in your face' - I would hope that things get more obvious as you move down the leagues, but I won't see that in this save. Other observations are that defensive positioning is generally a little better and corners seem to be better defended. I didn't really have a problem with the ME pre-patch, but for playing in a top tier league this ME version seems to have ironed out some of the behaviour that was more suited to lower leagues that was happening too often in the EPL.
  13. This came as something of a surprise, given we're in 5th, 3pts behind Southampton with a game in hand: (In my FM universe Southampton are actually good under Hasenhuttl) Just about to play first match under the new ME - will be watching the defenders with interest.
  14. You can get sacked in FM? It's been so long since that happened I can barely remember. It's annoying if you're intending to make it a one club save, but that's just FM's way of telling you that really you wanted to do a journeyman save all along. In a journeyman I'm quite disappointed if I don't get sacked once or twice - it all adds to the narrative.
  15. Will second that - played with KitBasher last year - really excellent program. Second Yellow Card has a great video on how to use it, too.
  16. This happened to me last year in FM22 with Nottingham Forest - got a new stadium and when I first saw it was hugely disappointed to find it was a 4 stand monstrosity. SI really need to stop that design being used for newly built stadiums.
  17. Clearly that club has installed under soil cooling - catch the opposition out by half-freezing your pitch.
  18. I was talking about the de facto truth said about FM by many on this forum whenever the subject of improved match graphics is raised. I'm not one of those people who uses FM in place of SI. Also that quote you used was from 2016 - we've had the 2018 graphical regression since then so I'd take that quote with a very big pinch of salt. As to what Miles says - it's all marketing. I'll look at what SI do rather than what Miles says. Anyway - need to get back to Croatia v Canada - see if Canada can get back into the game. (EDIT: They didn't)
  19. I think a lot is down to the fact that for many players it's about progressing quickly through seasons, so they are playing on key highlights* and only a proportion of them notice the fact that there are only three light/shadow combinations for every game and that every stadium orientation in the world is exactly the same. If you play on comprehensive, you spend much more time in the match visualiser so you really notice the lack of lighting variation** - and the fact that it wasn't the case in the past. I think there's also the thing of if you repeat something enough times it becomes the received wisdom and de facto 'truth' - in FMs case that the players don't care about graphics - which is disingenuous in the extreme. They care about other aspects of the game more (a good ME leads to forgiveness of so many other shortcomings), but as feedback this year has shown more that ever before, people are getting a bit fed up of sub-par graphics. * and, of course, there's also the Cult of Dots who wouldn't notice either. ** and all the other graphical shortcomings
  20. That's brilliant. Reminds me of the bug that can sometimes affect caretaker managers - I think there was a 200 years into the future experiment last year where a caretaker manager was in charge of a club for over 100 years. This feels like the result of a very similar coding error.
  21. Squad Planner is the thing that is frustrating me at the moment - it's like that 5 star potential youth intake player that turns out to be useless because of the attribute spread. Squad depth was always a really useful feature and the idea behind squad planner of taking that and allowing you to customise the order and project into the future is a really good one. However, it currently feels a bit half-baked. It's missing the ease of use on player inclusion that squad depth has and feels a bit over-fussy in the way it operates. I'm hoping that it gets a more refined and incorporates the full functionality of the old squad depth screen. If that's going to take a while to do I'd like the old squad depth page to be added back in so people still have that option while the squad planner is perfected.
  22. With FM Classic/FMT the problem was identified, but a separate game was never the real answer - especially one that wasn't based on the full database. FM Classic should always have been a play mode of the full game that hid all the fluff that's not part of the core team-building and football match playing experience of the game.
  23. I've been summing this up the same way for years now - players ask for FOOTBALL manager and SI want to build football MANAGER.
