  1. Ideally the forward trident would all attack and pass with the AMC at the center of it all. I'm going to run some tests to see which combinations might work best. Because of balance I thought it would be along the lines of this: IF(s)-AMC-IF(a) But playing both IF on attack seems to give more attacking pressure. Playing with the left one on support created a lot fewer chances. Perhaps an IW on attack could then add some unpredictability. Enigmatic puzzle this game is.
  2. Thanks for that. I'm getting so many different ideas, it's very hard to settle on one at the moment I'm trying 4 players in the AM strata, 1 player in a 4141, this formation... They all work for about 3 games and then it falls apart. I'm probably just trying too many things at the same time. Maybe it's time for a break One of the things that do stand out to me is, even if you're trying to play your AMC as your main player/striker, it's hard to achieve. (I think you said that already?) My IF's seem to be a lot easier to set up that way. In the end, I think going for a front 3 where the AMC is the controller of the game, doling out assists and key passes will be most productive - but which role would you recommend to achieve that? Still SS or rather AM(a)?
  3. If you still have a screenshot of that, I'd love to see how you put it to work
  4. I'm intrigued (and inspired) by the ideas around here regarding strikerless systems. But you all seem to use 3 ath the back systems, is there any specific reason? I was thinking of maybe trying out something inspired by Liverpool, but with an AMC instead of a F9: The idea would be for the AMC to supply the wings + IWB who attacks from (way) deep. (Sorry for the IWB I just love that one this year)
  5. I never quite got the difference between a RD and an IF(a) since the IF does that for me as well. Perhaps because I'm playing a rather direct brand of football?
  6. I think so yes. Finally some clarity It's been one of those things where you know it'll be something simple and straightforward, but couldn't figure it out for the life of me. Thanks for untying the knot in my back!
  7. I've had the same issues, usually I think it's to do with the reputation of your club and the player. Because when the club matured, offers poured in and this issue became a rarity.
  8. Hi, Something that's been bugging me for a while now, but can't seem to figure out: sometimes, I'll see an 'L' in fixture overviews. For example: 'Anderlecht 0 - 0 Club Brugge L' (in yellow). I don't have a picture at the moment, but can probably provide one tonight if needed. Thanks for anyone able to scratch THAT itch
  9. I had a lot of success with combining those roles in a 2 striker system. I played an IF(a)-DLF(s)-AF(a) (and a winger on support on the other flank) and it worked great. But of course, the DLF did a lot of the hard work there, creating and assisting. For a 433 I'd think the striker is isolated - and in my experience having an IF to support him wasn't enough.
  10. Keep in mind that what I'm about to write, is all just me. I'm far from a tactical genius, so in some ways this is the blind leading the blind 1: I got that email a couple of times during my first three seasons too. I used to have 1-2 ruts per season where at its worst I would lose 4/5 games in a row. I kept using the same tactics and eventually results picked up again. Then I cleaned my slate, got rid of everything I thought wasn't actually good enough both for the league and for my specific tactics and got in a lot of free new players. We won the next season by storm, only losing once. The thing you have to keep in mind is that it's not just you against a static AI. It will analyse your game and try to adapt, just like a real manager would. That doesn't mean that 'the AI finds you out', it just means that Atletico Madrid will play differently against Dortmund when they're destroying the Bundesliga then they would against a Dortmund battling relegation. It's about reputation and form. 2: What I meant with 'dial back' some of the settings of the standard gegenpress tactic is to look at your players and find out if, for example, they have ****** stamina. If they do, such an intense tactic will have your players beat by the 60th minute. Most OP tactics out there tick EVERY box (counter press or not, counter or not, everything execpt just leaving it blank and up to your players). They try to overwhelm the opponent simply by throwing bodies at their opponent, pretty much like the French did at Crecy and Azincourt against the English Not the perfect analogy, but you get the idea, I think? A balanced tactic will take into account the risks vs the benefits, while OP (and standard tactics do that too I think) are too busy checking boxes. For the standard tactics I believe they did that because they want to help players play a certain way - mainly for people not looking at tactics or new players who don't know (or want to know) how to get those dynamics by balancing tactics and players. I'm not perfect there either, still a lot to figure out. Lower elagues have always been easier to get smash results. If you have a halfway decent tactic, you should be able to wing it. The challenge starts in the first division, where you'll still overachieve in your first season as your opponents will be taken by surprise. Getting better players will help you climb up and up. If you're not willing to spend money, then it'll just take you more time by signing talents and training them until they're ready to take on the challenge. Or you sell them and buy what you need Don't know about the data hub. In many ways, I'm like you: find what works for me and then focus on building the squad/the club/the legend. Of course, to get there, I insist on finding the way myself rather than use plug and play tactics (but I don't mind asking for advice here, of course ) What you can't lose focus of: yes, I played with the same tactic for 14 years, but that doesn't mean I went straight to the top. 1st season: champions in 3rd division. Seasons 2 and 3: nada. Season 4: champions in 2nd. Seasons 5 through 12: nothing, execpt a cup here and there. Season 13: champions in 1st and won the conference league. Seasons 14 and 15: champions again. If you do it our way, you have to be patient and build your squad up, which becomes more of a challenge the longer your save goes on, since the top teams above you have time to keep building and becoming richer themselves. At least that's what happened in my Belgian save, because of 'play-offs'... Hope any this helps you find a bit of perspective
  11. I've seen it suggested a lot that the preset tactics are good starting points but that they always need some tweaking to fit your style/level/players. Maybe try dialling back a bit on some of the options?
  12. From my experience this year, a lot has to do with form and morale. It's been suggested around here (and I tend to agree) that it's hard this year to get out of a rut, just as much as it is easy to keep winning once you've a nice streak going. As for one tactic: I've played 14 seasons in one save using just one tactic that was perfect (for me) from around the 4th season. Didn't change a thing since then as we went up from 3rd to 1st division and eventually champions. Though, from a certain point the quality of your players is a major factor. Even if your tactic is solid, you'll need better players than your opponents to keep improving. Finally, in my experience again, if your tactic is pretty solid (which means no OP tactic you can download here), it'll keep working. Results will pick up if you rotate to players with better mroale. Or at least that's what's worked for me
  13. I'm mainly conceding from crosses/passes just outside the (side of the) box to strikers that seem poorly marked by otherwise excellent defenders... Bijnens will always be my first choice striker as Jordan is actually pretty 'meh'. I'm mainly using Mitchell (the AMC in the pictures above) as my LW. Some very good things to look at though and I'll take them into account when fiddling again. So thanks for the tips! Currently I'm playing like this: Changed to a positive mentality since we're one of 3 top teams in our division now. Removed all PI's and the only TI's left are Play out of defence, counter-press and press more often. I think especially removing many of the PI's has had a positive effect (which suits me better since I'm usually more of a basic player, leaving most of the decisions to my players). I based some ideas off @Johnny Ace's remarks in the AMC thread. The SS is pretty much doing what I expected from the AM(a), but I chose to stick with a DLF since an AF seemed too far removed from the rest of my players, especially when I was using my LW as an IW on support rather than attack. Hence the above result. Still having some trouble scoring (xg often 2-3, sometimes 4 but only scoring 1 or 2).
  14. Aaargh It's backfiring 😅 Can't keep a clean sheet anymore, while that was one of our strengths in the previous season. Without the b2b we seem a lot more sterile in offence. Small teams are beaten, but teams our equal find ways while we can't score even though our xg is 2+... Still open to suggestions 😃
  15. I do like that idea IWB on attack has so far been my favourite role this year. It's a bit OP it seems, because opposition pleayers never seem to be able to defend against them. Every time I play bad, my best player will still be that IWB.
  16. Some excellent points to think about, thanks. I was thinking of shoring up the left by turning the WB into a FB(s). The idea for the B2B was to offer support to the IW going forward, but if my FB is more conservative, I might even try a mezzala on support? Though that might be a bit much, perhaps just a CM on support or a carrilero. For the right, I was thinking perhaps an IW on support, or keep the winger on support with an IWB on attack at RB since I do have the cover of the defending DLP... Does that make sense, or would it be too adventurous, with bith the DLF and AMC already in that central space attacking?
  17. I based my tactic off of the 'wiping your slate clean' topic on here and I like the idea of the AMC being a bit of everything (creater andgoalscorer): playmaking without being a magnet for the ball, being an accessible pass option and actively attacking from deep. Perhaps I should add move into channels, but I like how effective he is atm. He's definitely not the problem as he's a goal threat and a passer currently.
  18. Thanks for the suggestions. The thing is I'd like my left winger to act as an inside forward, running into the box and very attacking. The wing back was intended to provide width and a passing outlet. By underlapping, they're keeping the wingers too wide I think? For the AMC: doesn't making him an SS make him to straightforward? As in he'll only be looking to run and score?
  19. Hi all, First of all, a thank you to all the wonderful advisors around here. FM22 has been an iteration where I managed to (finally) come up with some self-made tactics that actually work. In the past it was hit or miss, and I never got lucky more than once. This year I managed consistent success with two different tactics and it's all thanks to the smart, helpful people you are. My new attempt is, while defensively solid and at times attackingly brilliant, still a bit shaky and I'd like some advice on it. I've dropped some extra pictures in the attachment, I hope that works? TI's: pass into space, play out of defence, shorter passing, higher tempo passing, counter press, counter, higher DL, prevent short GK distribution. PI's: AMC (take more risks, shore more often), IW (shoot more often, sit narrower), BBM (Take more risks, shoot more often; this player rotates with others). My main problem is the LB. He rarely delivers and unless he makes an assist (happens in about 20% of the games), he'll barely reach a 6.4 average. In about 50% of games my IW(a) will struggle as well, until he scores or assists. My third problem is the Winger. He's my second biggest problem in that he struggles to make an impact. There seem to be games where we just turn off, barely create a chance until somewhere in the second half and then score out of nowhere, usually against teams similar to our level. We perform against bigger teams and severly outperform weaker teams. Any tips or advice is very much appreciated. Cheers and have a wonderful weekend!
  20. Does anyone have a link to a thread with good set pieces, or advice on how to create them, please? Preferably not just download links as I'm playing on Switch and can't import those. Thanks!
