  1. Regarding the point about the save transfer not being 100% confirmed, what Miles said in his announcement was, "...I'm delighted to announce you'll be able to bring your FM23 save into FM24 across all platforms." I don't know the source of the comment above, but MIles' statement sounds pretty damned definite to me.
  2. Presumably, if you port a save from 23 to 24, you should be able to port it from 24 to 25. One other thought: I’m certain that it will take several iterations (read: years) for SI to realize FM’s full potential under Unity. Patience is the order of the day.
  3. I'm glad to hear it. Whenever I try a new tactic or make a major change to an existing one, I use 2D because it's easier to see what's happening across the entire pitch. Also, when I was having issues with my GPU, 2D was the only way I could play a match without the game crashing.
  4. I've been hoping you would join the conversation. Do you expect any major new tactical opportunities to arise in FM24 or 25?
  5. My first thought upon reading the announcement was: well, that certainly puts paid to the oft-repeated charge around these parts that SI doesn’t pay attention to its player base. Miles made it clear that they’ve been aware of the dissatisfaction for quite some time. I also wasn’t surprised that the rollout of a new and vastly improved FM was delayed by the pandemic. Most everything else was affected. Could communication of the issues been better? Perhaps, but I doubt it would have helped. At this point, I’m genuinely excited about what’s to come. A vastly improved game engine and graphics, along with saved-game portability all hit the back of the net for me. My second thought was, Fantastic! The long-term warranty on my laptop runs out in October of 2025, just in time for me to splash out for a new top-of-the-line model for FM25. Saving and focus on the laptop market will commence shortly. And my playing of my current save, which began in Brazil at Santos, thence to Spain with Celta Vigo, and most recently to France with Olympique Lyonnaise, can continue uninterrupted. Made my day, this did.
  6. I just recently began managing Olympique Lyonnaise and, for some reason, there are never any people in the stands. Very strange, because this is the 3rd club I've managed in this save (the others were Santos in Brail and Vigo in Spain) but the first time I've seen this problem. It's not a game-breaker for me, just a tad odd.
  7. Perhaps, but I do set age parameters and still see players in their 30s in my focus recommendations.
  8. If you mean a "legends"" version of the game, that might be great fun. I play Strat-o-Matic baseball, and they have many editions of seasons from bygone eras. The difference is, FM works on a rolling-forward basis, while Strat-o-Matic is on a single-season basis. Still, it would be great fun to be able to play a prior year edition in the current ME.
  9. First of all, I don't have any "must have" features in mind as a condition to buy FM24, but there is one thing that might cause me NOT to buy it. I disagree with those who claim the game is "too easy". I would hope there is no change to the ME other than better planning for set pieces. But major changes to the ME will involve yet another tactical learning curve, and that would mean about two months lost while the "experts" cull the changes and map out how to deal with them. IRL, the game itself doesn't change all that much, only the tactical approaches to it. What DOES need changing is the delivery of information to the manager by staff. To be specific: 1. An assistant should notify the manager when the opponent has changed tactics from what the scouts had predicted the opponent would play. 2. Scouts should provide the information the manager most wants to know, not just what the AI decides to feed him. Much of the pre-match scouting info I get is useless because it isn't what I most want to know, and there's not enough of what I want to know to prepare for a match. 3. Whatever parameters that manager sets for scouting should be adhered to. If I say I only want to know about players between 17 and 23, I shouldn't need to slog through recommendations of 32-year-old midfielders or 35-year-old defenders. 4. When I take over a new team, I should know what tactic they were playing before I got there. Yes, I will design my own tactic based on my reading of the abilities of the players, but it's nice to know what didn't work before I got there. 5. I should also know what players the scouting department had already identified. I shouldn't need to start from scratch. 6. In match, I shouldn't have to play whack-a-mole, to bring up the tablet info. It should be there at the click of a button. There are also a few other things that desperately need to be addressed": 1. Interaction with the press. It's mind-numbing in its repetition. Personally, I'd like to see the whole thing gutted. "Immersion" would not suffer in the least. Varying the questions asked and the available responses would help. but I suspect the programming required would be more than it's worth to the game. 2. Can we simplify player interaction?? One example: player morale is boosted if one praises players scoreing over a certain level (7.70 seems to be the minimum) for good work in training. IN my experience, that is usually more than half the squad (about 15 players). But that requires 4 clicks per player. That's 60 clicks a week, about 40 weeks a year, or 2,400 clicks over a season. Can we please for the love of Mary either find a way to group the players together and then give them all a one-click "attaboy" or else just drop the silly exercise?? This process produces more groans from me than any other aspect of the game. 3. PLEASE get rid of the player reaction "would have preferred to remain on the bench". I'm quite certain that the number of players on professional teams who actually feel this way, let alone would express such a sentiment to their manager, are very few and far between. At all events, it's not an aspect of the game I prefer to experience. IRL, I would show such a player to the door. 4. Ditto with "is having trouble adapting to the pace of the match". While I'm sure there are players who experience this, it's probably something they adapt to quickly, and in all likelihood isn't something a manager can do anything about. 5. Press rumors on players wanting to be transferred that turn out not to be true. I've gotten so used to this I hardly notice it anymore. It's irritating. Sports bloggers are assholes. We know this. Why replicate it? SI has made no secret of its drive to include women's football. Being totally honest, I have coached girls' soccer teams and have loved the experience. I'm thrilled that women can play the sport professionally. A woman who has managed women's teams professionally was once my son's team's trainer. But I'm just not into watching it, or in playing at managing their game. So, it wouldn't be a particular draw for me.
  10. I noticed in the screens you posted, the first one showed a familiarity level of close to zero, while all the others were nearly 100%. How do you get them familiar with each new formation? Isn't familiarity a problem, or do you use the IGE?
  11. Is there a particular reason you chose this shape? It seems to me that you're tactic would be much more effective if you had two wingbacks and a DM (anchor or halfback instead of 2 BPDs, 2 DMs, and a Libero.
  12. I had something similar happen in earlier in my current save. I dispatched said player post haste (IGE is a wonderful thing).
  13. First, you said you want to play the game “the right way”. There is no wrong way. How you enjoy playing is how you should play. That said, if how you want to play is to pick a plug-and-play tactic without regard to how it fits your players and have unalloyed success without making the occasional adjustment, that might be a tad problematic. You’ve gotten some good advice above. I play the 4-3-3 DM a lot, and I like making the DM an anchor man, or, if I’m feeling more aggressive, as a halfback. The great thing about using a halfback is that it allows your center backs to spread out more, providing better coverage of the flanks, and also pushes up into the midfield on attack. But you need to have a player who can play it.
  14. I ignore it. It’s way more prevalent in friendlies than in competitive matches. The one that never fails to cheese me off is, “Would have preferred to remain on the bench.”
  15. In my journeyman save, I've just left Celta Vigo to manage Olympique Lyonnais. I typically prefer possession-based systems that need some players who are technically proficient and/or creative. But on my OL squad, I have 15 (count 'em!) physical players, and only two creative and one technical player. Clearly, a significant rebuild is in order, but in the meantime I need to adjust my playing style (we just played our first preseason friendly, and although we won, it was like watching a bunch of weightlifters performing Swan Lake. I'm thinking route-one, but I dislike that style of play. I've had a lot of success with tactics that combine aspects of two different styles (e.g. possession and wing play) so perhaps I'll try combining elements of route one and vertical tiki-taka. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
  16. Can you explain this? If you close the game without saving, how can that have an effect on future matches?
  17. In response to the OP: It took me some time to adapt to it, but I find I like the FM23 ME better than any previous version. One of the aspects I like the best is that one must pay attention during matches and manage substitutions wisely (translation: make sure the backs don’t get too tuckered out). You also need to pay attention to changes in play by the AI opponent. With a good 6 months before FM24 comes out, I recommend picking up FM23.
  18. I’m in the 5th year of my current save, and in the preseason friendlies I’ve been seeing anywhere from 3 to 10 woodwork hits per match. I can’t complain too much, though, because some of those have resulted in rebounds that were put in.
  19. Am I correct in assuming that “save scumming” denotes quitting a game in which something disagreeable has occurred without saving, and then playing again?
  20. I haven't had any problems with 2D. Keeping my fingers crossed. It would be nice to know if SI was digging into this, since I'm sure we're not the only ones having this issue.
  21. Update: I eliminated the Nvidia GeForce Experience overlay and played two matches, then crashed on the 3rd. I then eliminated the Intel Killer Performance app, and the game crashed on the next match I tried to play. I think I'll take @Overmars approach: I didn't buy the game to troubleshoot it. And since I find constant crashes irritating, I think I'll stick to 2D at least until the next Invidia driver comes out.
  22. Thanks very much, @b28937. I have read about not leaving the game running when the PC goes to sleep mode, and I now exit the game whenever I may be stepping away for more than a few minutes. I don't have a Logitech mouse, but I DO have Nvidia's GeForce Ex[erience App, so I will take care of that. Thanks for the in-depth response.
