West Ham in Europe! – 05/06

1st January 2006 - Vs Sunderland (H)

A very low turn out on new years day at the Boleyn for the visit of the Black Cats, West Ham carried on their rich vein of form which sees them in the top 6 of the table and take a penalty lead on 45 minutes with Gavilian converting in the final kick of the first half. Robinho doubled the advantage on 64 and West Ham held on to the two goal advantage until the last kick of the game saw Tommy Smith pull one back for Sunderland, but it was too little too late for the North Easterners as it finishes 2-1 to the Claret and Blue. icon_biggrin.gif

7th January 2006 - Vs Notts Forest (A) – FA Cup 3rd Round

An away trip that is a potential banana skin is a rather tedious 0-0. To be continued at Upton Park, this time with goals please! icon_rolleyes.gif

11th January 2006 - Vs Newcastle (H)

The Magpies arrive at Upton Park next and a titanic battle ensues with honours ending up even, the final score 1-1 with goals from West Ham’s Defoe and Newcastle’s Lucio belies the end to end attacking football the near capacity crowd witnessed on a cold and wet midweek night under the floodlights. icon_eek.gif

14th January 2006 - Vs Aston Villa (A)

The Journey to the Midlands to face Villa was next and West Ham looking to improve on their run of 2 draws, and they did just that and some! And early start for Robinho put the hammers in front, Oskarsson then added a hatrick to make it 4-0 at half time, the second half saw Robinho grab his hatrick too, and only a solitary reply by Vassell gave Villa a semblance of dignity, 6-1 the score, C’mon you Irons!! icon_cool.gif

18th January 2006 - Vs Notts Forest (H) - FA Cup 3rd Round Replay

After the bore draw at Forest, goals were needed and the Hammers did not disappoint with Oskarsson opening the account in 4 minutes, and Carrick adding another on 6 it looked like it was going to be a landslide but Forest managed to tighten up their defence and didn’t concede any more before the half time whistle blew with West Ham leading 2-0. The second half saw the onslaught continue and Gavilan converted a penalty on 61, then Oskarsson doubled his tally on 64, and made it a hatrick on 80 to finish Forest off at 5-0. West Ham still undefeated in the new year! icon14.gificon_biggrin.gif

21st January 2006 - Vs Birmingham (H)

Back to the premiership and another midlands opposition with Birmingham arriving at the Boleyn just as West Ham are hitting top form and scoring for fun! This game was no exception as Oliseh opened the scoring, Carrick and Oskarsson added to his opener to make it 3-0 at half time. Carrick bagged his brace in the second half in the pouring rain. The Upton Park faithful didn’t care about the weather, they were watching their team perform at their very best and confidence was building that an improvement on last seasons seventh place was attainable. 4-0 the final score. icon_biggrin.gif

28th January 2006 - Vs Chelsea (H) – FA Cup 4th Round

The Blues visit the Boleyn with West Ham in a very confident state, flying high in the league, still in Europe and on an unbeaten run of 12 games. Whenever I dare to mention these sort of stats CM wakens me with a shock result and this game was no exception, Most people would expect Chelsea to have the upper hand here, but West Ham absolutely bossed the game in every department, except the goals scored column! Chelsea scored from their first shot on target by Mutu in 5 minutes, then hibernated to their own half as West Ham attacked with out the same rewards, in the second half, Figo ventured across the half way line to net with Chelsea’s second on target effort, Robinho got some reward for the Hammers dominance a couple of minutes later, but Crespo managed to make it 3 goals in 3 on target attacks, Gavilan converted a penalty to bring it back to 3-2 but the hammers couldn’t convert their attacking opportunities, and were out of the FA cup. icon13.gificon_mad.gif

Although finishing the month on an unfortunate loss, the Hammers have much to be pleased with, sitting comfortably 2nd icon_eek.gif, 2 pts behind Manure and 3 pts clear of Chelsea (icon_mad.gif), waiting to continue their cup adventures in Europe against Parma icon14.gificon_cool.gif

The Awards for January saw Oskarsson rewarded for his outstanding performances with Player of the month, and Paul Rouch got Manager of the Month, while Sunday Oliseh came 2nd in the Goal of the Month competition with his long range effort against Birmingham.

TIGER TIMES

The League

Well Hull are sitting pretty at the top of the table and have been there for most of the season, although just lately injuries are beginning too take their toll as Hull are stuttering a little. Here is a rundown of the league:

Hull v Brighton - (H) - 1-1

After the brilliant performance at Ninian Park it was back to The Circle for another powerkeg clash against Brighton. This match was a close tight a ffair with both teams cancelling each other out for long periods of the match. Both teams had chances and midway throught he first half Simone Padoin put Hull 1-0 up with a great strike and scoing his first for his new club Hull. Hull never really built on that lead and Brighton scored their equaliseer in the second half much to the dismay of Hepburn in the Tigers dugout.

Hull v Bolton - (H) - 1-0

A truely brilliant performance from Hull as the demolished Bolton but could only muster one goal for all their possession and chances. They never gave Bolton a look in as it was one way traffic heading in the direction of the Bolton penalty area. It was a Stuart Elliot goal that gave Hull the win but it could have been six or seven such was the dominance of Hull.

Portsmouth v Hull - (A) - 2-1

To get a win here would have been a great achievement as Pompey were looking to go straight back to the Premiership and their home form was superb. Hull made a good game of it but Pompey were just too strong for Hull and created the better chances throughout the match and deservedly won in the end. it was Danny Allsopp who gave Hull hope as they went in 1-1 at half time. Pompey came out all gns blazing and got a winner nine minutes from time.

Hull v Bradford - (H) - 4-2

Well after that tough game at Pompey Hull were looking to back to winning ways and that they did against Bradford at The Circle. That they did and in particularly good fashion as well. It was a great game as Hull dominated and deservedly put Bradofrd to the sword straight from kick off with Stuart Elliot giving Hull a confidence boosting early lead. Paulinho added to that lead with a goal in the seventeenth minute then Bradford pulled one back. Just after half time Simone Padoin made it 3-1 to Hull but Bradford then scored another but it was Paulinho scoring his second and Hull's fourth to secure the three points for the Tigers.

Stoke v Hull - (A) - 1-0

This freat league form continueed in this hard fought match against Stoke. It was a game of missed chances for Stoke as their strikers seemed to forget where the goal was as their shooting was awful. For Hull they took one of their few chances and that was it, game over. Stuart Elliot produced another vital winner thirty-three minutes into the first half. Again Hull failed to build on the lead given tot hem but they did just enough to secure another three points.

Hull v Gillingham (H) - 6-0

Superlatives cannot describe how good Hull were in this game. Hepburn must have had them on the training ground practicing being more ruthlss in front of goal as this was ruthless in every sense of the word. This rout did take a little while to get going as Paulinho grabbed his first of two goals in the thirty-first minute and then the floodgates opened. Stuart Elliot added another three minutes later and then Guy Branston added a third on half time. In the second half Paulinho grabbed his second closely followed by Stuart Elliot's second to make it 5-0 to Hull. They wer still creating chances but couldn't find a finish. Cue Johann Gudmundsson to score a sixth, seven minutes from time. What an emphatic victory and Hepburn was very pleased with his team's performance.

Rushden v Hull - (A) - 2-1

Hull did not play well in this game, giving Rushden too much room but it is the sign of champions when not playing well they still grinded out a result. They had no right winning this game as Rushden had given them a real game but Hull took the lead through Danny Allsopp only for Rushden to hit a quick reply seven minutes later but up stepped Paulinho playing brilliantly all season to score the winner two minutes before half time. For once praise had to go to the defence and goalkeeper as the defended superbly well and limited Rushden to long range efforts that Roy Carroll dealt with easily.

Sheffield Wednesday v Hull - (A) - 0-1

Well the less said about this game the better as Sheffield Wednesday who are fast becoming Hull's bogey team took them apart. Hull were never in the game and deservedly lost.

Hull v Wimbledon - (H) - 3-0

After that lacklustre performance at Hillsbrough Hepburn was looking for a response. the response he got was a good one from his team as they rpoduced yet another classy performance at home. Wimbledon had no answer and a Stuart Elliot hattrick gave Hull the points.

Notts Forest v Hull - (A) - 2-0

This was a funny game. Notts Forest dominated the game but Hull's defence stood firm and they also took the chances presented to them. Simone Padoin scored Hull's first and then Johann Gudmundsson sealed the win for Hull. Notts forest must be sickened by this result as they more than deserved a point at least from the game. Football is a funny old game someone once said!!!! icon_biggrin.gif

Millwall v Hull - (A) - 3-1

Another of those games Hull will want to forget as the the were absolutely pish from start to finish. It was 3-1 going on 10-1 as Millwall really ripped them apart. Hull looked more like relegation candidates than champions and Hepburn was suitably raging and all for giving the players his now famous 'hairdryer treatment'. Those Scots managers are fiery buggers!!! icon_biggrin.gif

Norwich v Hull - (A) - 2-1

The big games were now comin thick and fast. A revitalised Norwich under the management of Wayne Brister lay in wait for Hull. Recent performances had made Norwich favourites and they did start very well. In fact how they didn't win this win will be a mystery. they outplayed Hull for long periods but could not find those vital goals. Goals from Porhallsson and Elliot gave Hull an undeserved win but they will take it all the same. Hull's away form was now becoming a concern for Hepburn as the have being getting taken apart in recent away games. back tot he training pitch for some work on the tactics I think.

Hull v Coventry - (H) - 2-1

Injuries to key players were beginning to take their toll on Hull. This was evident as this was not a vintage performance from Hull. However they did enough to merit the victory with another brace from the on form Stuart Elliot.

Watford v Hull - (A) - 0-0

How Hull never won this game I will never know. For the first time in a long time Hull dominated a game away from home. They did everything right apart from put the ball in the back of the net. The Watford keeper produced a performance of superman like proportions to keep Hull at bay. Hepburn will be gutted they did not win this one.

Crewe v Hull - (A) - 0-1

Another game where Hull will rue their missed chances. Crewe were not in the game first half as Hull put them to the sword in a superb first half performance. For all their dominance they could not find the back of the net and they paid for it in the second half as Crewe came out a different team scored their winner in the second half.

The League Cup Experience

In the League cup it has been an experience alright. In the fourth round Hull met Mark Brown's high flying QPR at The Circle. It was a potentially tough game and all the critics had written Hull off but to their surprise they took them apart. Paulinho sent Hull on their way in fifteen minutes. Kristjansson equalised for QPR and they all thought the floodgates would open. It wasn't to be for QPR as Hull scored two second half goals from Stuart Elliot and Danny Allsopp sealed a very impressive victory for Hull.

Into the quarter finals Hull went and they were drawn away to Chesterfield. Hull must have fancied their chances as Chesterfield have never been beaten under Hepburn's reign as Hull manager. The run continued as Hull took Chesterfield apart in an excellent display. Goals from Downing, Elliot and Ben Strevens sealed a place in the semi's for Hull.

In the Semi Final Hull were drawn against the might of Manchester Utd again. Hull had nothing to fear having beaten Utd twice in cup comeptions int he past two seasons but this was a semi final and a whole different ball game. The first leg was at Old Trafford and utd put Hull to the sword for most of the game but to Hull's credit they held firm and notched a superb 0-0 draw much to the delight of former Utd keeper Roy Carroll who produced a man of the match performance. So it is onto the second leg now for Hull at The Circle where Hull are unbeaten all season so Hepburn hopes this continues.

The FA Cup

So far in the FA Cup Hull have made heavy whether of making progress into the next round. In round three Hull were up against Barnsley at The Circle and Hull were outplayed and were lucky to escape with a 1-1 draw. In the replay Hull did what they should have done in the first leg and ripped Barnsley apart as the quality and class came to the fore. Goals from Porhallson and Elliot gave Hull the victory and aplace in round four.

In round four Hull were drawn against Sheffield Wednesday at The Circle. They raced into a 3-1 lead with goals from Jobi McAnuff, Sturat Elliot and an own goal from Paddy Kenny. In the second half Hull decided they wanted another replay so they gifted Utd two goals in four minutes to send the tie to a replay.

Hull are now getting to the business end of the season with a lot of important games coming up with a League Cup semi final second leg and a FA Cup replay to look forward to. Hull will be looking to get all their key players fit and most are not far away from full fitness. Players such as Guy Branston, Paulinho and the great Richie Partridge will all be back in a couple of weeks and be ready to lead Hull towards a potential treble if everything goes according to plan.

The Stevenage Planet

Well its been another good few games for the former conference and division 3 champions. Looking good at the top of the division 2, we looked to have finally avoided the relegation zone with ease and the fans and board are more than happy with the performances the team has been putting in. Anyhow, lets see how we got on.....

Swansea 0 : 1 Stevenage

It was an enjoyable away day for the fans, a solid all round performance with our defence again keeping a clean sheet, something they have been doing quite a lot this season. It should of seen a lot of goals but at the end it was our captain Juliusson who took charge and gave us the deserved win with his goals.

Walsall 0 - 4 Stevenage

Continuing our road trip, we went to the midlands to play at the Bescot Stadium, following the last games solid performance, we continued to play very well and it was the front pairing who just took the defence apart, leading Stevenage goal king Humphreys and new signing Ebanks-Blake both knocked in a brace to take the points home.

Stevenage 2 : 0 Cheltenham

Back infront of the home fans following two successful away trips, it was a very good game for us and the defence were at the heart of it all with keeping the attackers out and then playing through balls directly into the strikers setting up plenty of counter attacks which Cheltenham were struggling to defend, goals from Elding and Humphreys sealed the deal for us.

Stevenage 5 : 0 Southend

It was only five, it could of been oh so many more, Southend were shockingly poor in all areas of the pitch, their strikers hardly touched the ball and their defence seemed to have been on a desert island, completed stranded. So of course the players took advantage of this and attacks down the wings with quality crosses cost the away side dear, Gilder, Humphreys and Ebanks-Blake all scored with another two coming from on form striker Elding.

Lincoln 3 : 0 Stevenage

The Assistant took over for this match and showed exactly why he is the assistant and not the manager, having been disconnected from the net there was nothing I could do to stop Stevenage getting a tonking by a very ****e Lincoln side. Bloody BT! I honestly believe if I had been in charge for this game then it would have been at least a 6-0 victory as Lincoln actually had no keeper cos their one and only keeper was injured and they also had another 9 first team players injured and suspended......but somehow, Holiday mode and Assistant cost us along with BT icon_frown.gif

Plymouth 2 : 5 Stevenage

We continue again to another trip on the road, the second out of three in a row, As said before, Stevenage dont like losing and tradition of losing has always been followed with absolutely thrashing the very next side we meet, who better but to play bottom side Plymouth, despite conceding 2 goals it was still more of a target practice for us as five went flying in at the other end, the captain started the scoring following goals from Huckerby, Humphreys and two from Elding.

Tranmere 0 : 2 Stevenage

Finally our away game run is coming to an end, Tranmere havnt been too good and giving goals away easily, we too advantage of their weak defence and who better to score but the current on form goal getter Elding, he had a fantastic game and completely all over the tranmere back line, fully deserved his two goals and even should of had a hattrick.

Stevenage 3 : 1 Chesterfield

Its 1st vs 2nd in the league, we beat them before could we do it again? Well Chesterfield have actually been on a bit of a bad run lately which saw us drift away from them at the top, it was a good chance for them to close the gap a bit and get a decent run back under their belt.......fat chance of that happening, despite a small defensive lapse, we recovered to restore our confidence and started to take control of the game, Huckerby had an absolutely cracking game, their defence struggled big time again his blistering runs from the left side of midfield which resulted in him knocking in 2 of the goals followed up by now injury free Poole who was out for 3 weeks.

Stevenage 1 : 0 Blackpool

I must say, Blackpool have been one of our strongest opponents this season, they have played well everytime against us and once again they did make it tough for us but if it wasnt down to poor finishing from the strikers, it would certainly have been at least 3 goals but their keeper did well to keep out such quality shots, the game was finally decided by a penalty, who was gonna take it? Was none other than confident captain and brilliant pen taker Juliusson, he smashed it straight past the keeper who didnt have a chance.

Stevenage 3 : 0 Brentford

Finishing our trio of home games, it was relegation battlers Brentford paying us a visit and their welcomed back anytime icon_biggrin.gif A very solid performance and our defence one again on top and keeping a clean sheet, Laker and Howard patrol the left side while O'Donoghue has started to make the centre back role his own, with Sims returning, he's easily keeping him out the squad with some fantastic performances. Anyway, it was on-song Captain Juliusson who scored an absolute scorcher of a goal, a real peach, a 30 yard cracker straight into the net, coming in from the right hand side of midfield, he unleashed a lovely curling shot into the top of the net, his goal was followed by former Utd youngster Ebanks-Blake who not only scored one, but made it two just minutes before full time.

So another steady few performances by the Stevenage squad, managed to secure some key players who have finally signed new contracts. Just require club captain Juliusson to sign now as time is running out for him to say yes. The financial position is looking very good too, we should be able to get more money in next season with a new sponsorship deal and also the tv money which I think falls in the region of 5million, this will hopefully increase our wage budget meaning we can re-sign Juliusson and also get in some other top players to help us get our aims next season.

But for now, we will concentrate on the job at hand, having now played around 31/32 games this season, we look very good at securing the title sooner than we thought, it should only take another 7 games or so now as we lead by about 25pts from Chesterfield in 2nd place. We now have also broke the 100 goal barrier after we needed 3 goals which came in our last game against Brentford.

Some more tough games coming up to the season ending but as soon as promotion is secured we will be looking at playing some of the reserve players to keep them happy. icon_smile.gif

West Ham in Europe! – 05/06

1st February 2006 – Vs West Bromwich Albion (A)

West Brom took an early lead through Jason Roberts and The West Ham faithful began to wonder if it was going to be one of those days against their bogey team, Half Time saw the score still at 1-0 to the Baggies, The second half saw West Ham in a more determined mood and Hayden Mullins scored the equaliser. However, Robert Huth was far too determined, and was sent off shortly after the equaliser, at that point the Midlanders regained control and Thompson, O’Connor and Diana score a goal each against the dispirited 10 men in Claret and Blue. 4-1 to the baggies icon13.gificon_eek.gif

4th February 2004- Vs Wolverhampton Wanderers (H)

After losing against Midlands opposition in the last game, a revenge opportunity reared its head in the very next game with the visit of another Midlands team, at the Boleyn. Robinho set the tone early on, Oskarsson doubled the lead on half time. Robinho was again quick out of the blocks as he made it 3-0 on 48 minutes, a quick reply from Kenny Miller gave the travelling Black and Gold faithful some hope, but Etherington and Morgan added to the tally to make it a 5-1 drubbing. icon14.gificon_biggrin.gif

22nd February 2006 – Vs Queens Park Rangers (A)

A game that was all over as a contest in the first half with Mullins and Oliseh giving the Hammers a 2-0 lead over the superhoops, which was all that was needed. icon_biggrin.gificon_cool.gif

25th February 2005 – Vs Liverpool (A)

An early goal from Oskarsson gave the West Ham fans a reason for optimism in this game but Diouf scored two and Tallec the other to give the scousers a 3-1 victory icon_mad.gif

stevenage.JPG?The Stevenage Planet

It was another good few games of football for the boro and we've come to the stage of the season were we are just seeing out the remainder of the games we got the best we can and then capture the league title, with the huge gap we have, we can afford to do that as we also now secured a play off place.

Stevenage vs Ipswich

We best to start our round up but at one of the former division 1 sides facing us, the tractor boys came and left after a very poor showing against us, they certainly got the talent but something aint going right for them as they are struggling in the league, so the solid all round performances we've enjoyed all season once again came to light and the spark for the game was created by captain Juliusson who smashed in a 30 yard screamer into the top right hand corner, it was followed by a well worked setplay which saw Humphreys score and then a solo effort by Elding to continue his scoring spree. Ft : 3-0

Grimsby vs Stevenage

Once again, a team that has the talent but just aint showing what they are capable off, even though they were infront of their home fans they didnt show much spirit at all and the fans even left the ground early at this game, having recovered from injury, Poole started the scoring, it was followed by a brace from his ex Man Utd team mate Ebanks-Blake and of course man of the moment Elding who also scored a couple himself to complete the rout. FT : 5-0

Burnley vs Stevenage

Another away trip and this time against a decent opponent though, having thrashed them and taught them a footie lesson the first time round, they certainly didnt under estimate us the second time round, having gone infront three times, it just wasnt enough to stop them coming back into it, for a change we had some very poor defending although we did have a bit of a selection crisis before the game, so it ended all even with Gilder getting our first followed by Humphreys who got a brace and took his Stevenage goal tally to over 100 goals. Ft : 3-3

Stevenage vs Bournemouth

Up against one of the mid-table battlers now who dont seem to be going anywhere fast, well for some reason, if we draw or lose a game the next game just ends up in a complete goal feast.......so I wont even have to go into the details about this apart from that the captain Julisson rifled another screamer into the net to begin the goal feast which was completed by Poole, Ebanks-Blake, Johannsson and Borg. Ft: 5-1

Of course thats not the round up complete, having enjoyed such good success in the last few games, It was time for Stromberg to show what he can do with the first team after he had some successful results with the reserves including a recent 7-0 win. After my assistant had lost the game against Lincoln I knew he wanted to have another game in charge so he can win.......so Stromberg took over with me watching from the stands

Bristol Rovers vs Stevenage

It was earlier in the season that this was called the relegation battle, Stromberg looked confident that the team could do well, unfortunately his team selection was, well unexpected and it showed by their performance on the pitch that they were out of place, they did score a goal this time though under Stromgberg which was by Ebanks-Blake but it just wasnt enough and Stromberg once again was very dissapointed. Ft: 1-2

Stevenage vs Wigan

Having lost yet another game, I had a good word with Stromberg about the tactics, players, strategies etc. Facing one of the best sides in the league now he sure had to perform on this one......and perform he did, he seemed to have taken the advice onboard very well indeed as the lads outplayed Wigan this time round and it was the influencial captain Juliusson who put us ahead followed by a goal from Humphreys. Ft: 2-0

Stevenage vs Reading

Another tough opposition for the assistant to take on, Reading on good form of late and are in the play offs, it wasnt the most exciting match but Stromberg didnt lose which is a bonus for us. Ft: 0-0

Barnsley vs Stevenage

Stromberg certainly seems to be enjoying this now and is really using the advice that I gave him, it was time for another solid performance by the lads and they certainly gave us that, despite conceding a goal, the tykes couldnt do anything about the goals scored by Huckerby, Poole and Ebanks-Blake. Ft: 3=1

Stevenage vs Torquay

He's in the "zone", thats two wins and a draw since the defeat he had and this game wasnt gonna change that free flowing football that the team have been playing, the game was settled by a goal from former Vale strike McPhee. Ft: 1-0

Colchester vs Stevenage

Aint no stopping me now, he's on a run! Stromberg in what is his last game in charge before I'm taking over again makes it a hattrick of wins, although it was a close result he still managed to get the lads to bring home the points, two superb team efforts saw Humphreys knock in both the goals and despite the home team scoring, it just wasnt enough and we held on. Ft: 2-1

Of course, there are only about 5 games to play now and we did secure a play off place, well I have even better news for the Stevenage fans as we are now officially..................

West Ham in Europe! – 05/06

2nd March 2006 – Vs Parma (H) – UEFA Cup 3rd Round 1st Leg

A surprisingly low turnout saw West Ham face their sternest opposition yet in this UEFA cup tie. Oskarsson kicked the game off with an early strike to give the home team the advantage. West Ham dominated the play and Oskarsson grabbed his brace just before half time. Defoe sealed things with West Hams third strike on 67. The second half saw more of the same with Mullins grabbing his brace, and Oliseh and Morgan chipping in to give a very comfortable 3 points to the home team. Mullins grabbed another after the restart, before Morfeo pulled one back for the home side, Oskarsson then added another 2 to complete his hatrick and complete a magnificent rout on Italian soil, A night to remember for the travelling fans! icon_biggrin.gificon14.gificon_eek.gif

Another European night at the Boleyn saw the Russian side Lokomotiv Moskow visit the floodlit stadium, Yet again Oskarsson was the main man grabbing another brace before half time and Olisej adding to the tally in the second half, and importantly, a clean sheet which means that West Ham travel to Moscow for the next leg with a 3 goal advantage and no away goals to worry about icon14.gif

Robinho sprung to life in the second to double the advantage and ensure the sweet taste of success stayed on the lips of the Hammers! icon_biggrin.gificon_biggrin.gif

25th March 2006 – Manchester United (A)

A potential 6 pointer with Manure sitting top of the table 10 points clear but West Ham in 2nd with 2 games in hand, looking to buck everyones view that they could not sustain the challenge. Oskarsson was in supreme formbanging in a hatrick in the first half to make the hammers look unassailable, but, never forget the team you are playing, and this Man Utd team are renowned for never giving up icon_eek.gif They must have had a taste of something not too dissimilar to the Fergie hairdryer from the manager Steve Bruce, because the 2nd half saw a much improved performance RVN pulled the first one back shortly after the restart, Alessandro Del Pierro got a second 10 minutes later and then RVN won a very dubious penalty on 61 to get the equaliser from the convcerted spot kick to level the game. What followed was an absolute footballing treat for the fans but heart attack inducing stuff for the managers as both teams threw caution to the wind and went looking for the elusive winner! No one could convert the many chances that came up in the final 30 minutes of end to end frenetic football, and the game finished with the two teams being roundly applauded off the pitch and Rouch cursing the reversal of all the good work done in the first half icon_mad.gif

Press conference at Goodision

Bill Kenwright: Ladies and gentleman I'd like to welcome you to goodison to unviel the clubs new manager , A manager of this potential does not come around all that often so i'm delighted to have acted as quick as we did to secure his services , ladies and gentleman introducing to you the new manager of Everton Mark Brown.

Press : Mark do you feel you have shown QPR no loyalty jumping ship before the end of the season?

Mark Brown: Not really we had secured our place in the premiership for a 2nd season against all odds , the club is in great shape on and off the pitch and the future looks bright for them.

Press: With all those good words why did you join a club lower then your previous one and in a worse financial postion ?

Mark Brown : Well basically a club like Everton with its history and stadium and loyal fans is a once in a lifetime offer , in terms of there position in the league , I personally do not believe it represents the quality of players we have at this club , a bit of wheeling and dealing and I'd like to think we would be a very strong team next season.

Press: What are your aims and goals ?

Mark Brown:Well short term its to assess the players , see who I believe is worthy of a place in the squad next season. To climb the table and to try and finsh as high as possible as the difference between a couple of places could bring in some much needed money to the club. Long term Europe why not , with players such as Yobo , mcfadden and Rooney we have a solid base to build on.

Press: Rumours are Rooney will join Chelsea in the summer for £30million do you plan sell any of your assets to raise funds for the transfer market?

Mark Brown:As you said its a rumour so it must be true, however the money wouldn't go a miss but it would cost twice that much to replace a player of that class , the rumours of chelsea being interested come around every summer as they are one of the few clubs who could afford such a fee , however do you really see a lad like wayne settling in London? never say never but selling wayne is not on the top of my agenda.

Press:What are the plans on the transfer front?

Mark Brown:First things first we need to trim the wage bill and then maybe we can look , at present its all frees and low wage players leaving us to work in a very limited market.

Press:So rumours of Marcelo Salas are not true?

Mark Brown:I never said that , in Salas's case we are definately interested , hopefully he would qualify for a work permit and join us for next season.

Press:You have QPR away soon do you expect a hostile reception?

Mark Brown: I'd hope not after what we achieved in such a short space of time , but you never know. I'm sure I could live with it if it happens , however I left with the clubs full blessing.

Bill Kenwright: Well ladies and gentlemen thats all for now , thank you for coming

Hull_2.JPG?

TIGER TIMES - THE SEASON RUN IN

The League Campaign

After Hull's indifferent run of form of late Hepburn had cause for concern especially with his sides away form and the number of injuries at the club. After their defeat against Crewe it was time for some defensive readjustments as Hull were being dominated away from home on a regualr basis. These new defensive tactics were put to the test in Hull's next game.....

Hull v Crystal Palace - (H) - 1-0

Hull went into this game low on confidence in front of goal and defensively. Injuries meant that no less than three of Hull's stars were out injured for what was an important game as Hull tried to kickstart their faltering league campaign. The fans didn't know what to expect but what they did get was a performance full of chances but with no real end product. yes Hull won but it should have been a lot more than the 1-0 scoreline suggests. it was forgotten man Ryan Williams who scored the only goal of the game but it was enough to secure three vital points at the top of the table.

Hull v Rotherham - (H) - 1-0

After a recent run of away game Hull were glad they were back at The Circle for the visit of Rotherham, a solid outfit who were tough to breakdown. This was the game where Richie pArtridge made his long awaited comeback to the Hull team and boy did he show them what they were missing. Another vintage performance from the great man and he could have had a hat trick but for some fine goalkeeping. Again Hull failed to make the goalkeeper work enough but a Partridge strike was again enough for the three points. This was also now two clean sheets in a row in the league and that seemed to please Hepburn a lot.

Hull v Fulham - (H) - 4-0

Well what can you say about this performance? Absolutley, bloody amazing that's what. This was a superb Hull performance full of everything that is good about football. Passing, movement, energy and flair were all there in this awesome display. they never gave Fulham time to get into the game and it was one way traffic for 90 minutes. Three quick first half goals from Stuart Elliot, Simone Padoin and Danny Allsopp saw Hull gain in confidence and it was Allsopp who grabbed his second four minutes from time to give Hull a glorious victory. The only downside to this victory was yet another injury for Richie Partridge.

Brsitol City v Hull - (A) - 1-1

A pretty even encounter this one as both Hull and Bristol City had their fair share of opportunities and a draw as a fair result. Simone Padoin had Hull in front till seven minutes from time. This time 1-0 was not enough and Hepburn will feel his team should have went on to win the game from 1-0.

Charlton v Hull (A) - 1-1

If ever Hull had to play a get out of jail card then this was it. they were taken apart here by a superb Charlton performance. Roy Carroll stepped up and produced three or four world class saves as he kept Charlton at bay. Amazingly hull took the lead early in the second half through Appleby but it did only last three minutes as Charlton equalised. Hull however did have a fair few chances themselves so it was not total domination.

Hull v Derby - (H) - 0-0

Now the last time Hull played at The Circle it was goals galore in a fantastic performance. On this occasion however love nor money could buy Hull a goal as a dogged and determined Derby made life a misery for the Tigers. Also a lack of shootin gon target put paid to Hull's hopes of winning this one.

Bolton v Hull - (A) - 0-0

Hull produced one of their better away performances here but they came up against Bolton's answer to superman Jussi Jaaskelainen in goal for them. He saved absolutely everything that was thrown at him and rightfully earned the man of the match award and as Hull tore the Bolton defence apart as if they wer not there. They didn't need to be as Jaaskelainen was conceding any goals much to the dismay of Hepburn.

Hull v Sheffield Utd - (H) - 2-0

After two no scoring draws it was onto the training pitch before this match for some shooting practice before the visit of the Blades. The shooting practice seem to pay off as within four minutes Hull went 1-0 up through Danny Allsopp. Hull continued to create many chances but just could not find the back of the net. Paulinho added a second for Hull to secure a superb win.

Hull v Cardiff - (H) - 0-0

Another erratic shooting display cost Hull dearly here as they only managed two shots on target over 90 minutes of football. To be fair to Cardiff they made it very hard for Hull to create many clear cut chances but again the strikers for Hull had an off day when it came to clear cut chances to stick away. Hepburn was clearly not happy at the end and god knows what happened in the dressing room.

Brighton v Hull - (A) - 2-1

This was a tough old game of football. Brighton are always tough at home and this proved to be the case again. Hull had to dig deep and they produced a gritty performance and in the end earned the right to play football. Paulinho grabbed both goals for Hull in an impressive personal performance for the midfielder. Another three points in the bag and the surge towards the division 1 title.

Hull v Stoke - (H) - 0-0

Yet again Hull drew another stalemate at home this time against Stoke. Again Hull came up against a keeper bang on form and hepburn must have been wondering if they would ever score another goal at The Circle. Now three games at home without a goal.

Hull v Portsmouth - (H) - 3-0

Finally!!!! Yes with the critics baying for blood Hull produced a fantastic performance against Portsmouth to avenge the defeat at Pompey eariler in the season. The critics said Hull were bottling it but with this perfomance they showed the critics were to stick their thoughts. A totally domininate Hull stepped out onto the hallowed turf at The Circle. When in crisis in the goalscoring stakes step up Lee Naylor who scored an absolute cracker to break Hull's non scoring at home. It was also his first for the club and what a time to score it. Further goals from Jobi McAnuff and Richie Partridge sealed an emphatic win. The only downside was the stupid sending off of McAnuff a minute after putting Hull 2-0 up.

Bradford v Hull - (A) - 3-1

Despite the scoreline this was a close game with Bradford and Hull both having numerous chances throughout the game. It was Hull who took their chances and Bradford who didn't. Hull can have Roy Carroll to thank for the three points just as much as the goalscorers. The Hull goals came from Partridge, Padoin and Gudmundsson sealed a great win for Hull. They were now starting to find some form at the right time of the season.

Gillingham v Hull - (A) - 2-2

This was a fairly even game and the scoreline reflected this. It was Hull who started off the better of the two teams and went ahead in four minutes through Danny Allsopp. Again Hull failed to build on that lead and paid for that as Gillingham equalised early in the second half. Then in a moment of madness Partridge reacted to a wreckless challenge and got himself sent off. It was Hull who took the lead again through Porhallsson and they thought that was it. But no sooner had Hull scored Gillingham went up the pitch and scored a dramatic equaliser and the game ended 2-2.

Hull v Rushden - (H) - 2-0

Hull went into this game with one thing on their mind - revenge. They got their revenge with a superb perfomance. They got off to the best possible start when Danny Allsopp converted a penalty after three minutes. They then built on that lead and Paulinho scored a second for the now champions of division 1. They put on a fine show for the rest of the game and there was a party atmosphere as Hull were one game away from getting their hands on the division 1 trophy.

Hull v Millwall - (H) - 3-1

It was party time at The Circle as Hepburn had done the impossible. He led Hull to the Premiership in successive seasons. The only thing on Hepburn's mind today was a win against rivals Millwall who had beaten Hull 4-1 earlier in the season. He told the players to forget being presented with the title and produce a performance worthy of division 1 champions. That they did as they tore into Millwall from the start. It was wave after wave of attack from the Tigers as they responded to their manager's wishes. Goals from Downing, Paulinho and Partridge sealed a brilliant performance. Then it was party time as Hull were presented with the division one title!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The League Cup Adventure

It was semi final time for Hull and they were drawn against Man Utd with the first leg at Old Trafford and the following at The Circle. Hull had a great record against one of the superpowers of European Football and they had hoped it remainde intact. It was a backs to the wall performances from Hull's players as Man Utd piled on the pressure but thanks to a man of the match performance from ex Man Utd goalkeeper Roy Carroll he kept the score at 0-0. Hull even had the cheek to have a goal disallowed and that really would have rubbed salt into the wounds of Utd.

In the return leg Hull went for it right from kick off and were rewarded with a goal from stuart Elliot after 9 minutes. Olle gunnar equalised for Utd and then went 2-1 up through Freddie Kanoute. Everyone thought Utd would then go on to win the match but Hull are made of strong stuff. They came roaring back at Utd and equalised through a Ben Strevens goal. The game went to extra time and again many thought Utd being in this situation many times before they would capitalise and go on to win the game. Not how it turned out as after 101 minutes of football an unlikely hero in Richie Appleby scored a dramatic winner and sent Hull into the final at the Millenium Stadium. What a day out for the fans.

The Final - Hull v Coventry (N) - 3-1

It was an unlikely final pairing. Two teams from the first Division had battled there way through to the final and beating quality opposition on there roads to the final. It was Hull's second visit to the Millenium stadium after winning the Auto Vans trophy last season. The game was a great spectacle and it was also a one sided affair as Hull dominated their opponents. Hull took the lead in 8 minutes through Danny Allsopp but passed up a few chances to increase their lead. Coventry equalised three minutes from half time through Sergio Bravo to give Coventry some hope for the second half. It was two late goals that sealed the win for Hull. The first was a penalty converted by Danny Allsopp and then a brilliant free kick from Paulinho secured the League Cup for Hull. It also meant Europe next year for Hull for the first time ever!!!!!

The FA Cup

After the disaster at home against Sheffield Utd Hull were looking for a win this time around. They got that win in a tense affair with not many clear cut openings for either team. But one of those opportunities was taken by Hull through Richie Appleby, the hero again and it was becoming second nature to this guy having just scored the winner to put Hull into the league cup final.

Then it was onto round five where they met Chelsea and billionaire Roman Abrimovich. He had assembled a team full of world class players and Hull gave it their best shot but proved no match for the Chelsea millioniares. They lost 2-1 and were left dreaming of another date at the millenium stadium. There is always next year however.

End Of Season Summary

Overall it was a brilliant season for the Tigers. They had excelled themselves in the league and won it comfortably in the end and also managed to win the League Cup and secure european football at The Circle for the first time in years. It will take something else next season to beat this performance but they will be in one of the toughest leagues in the world, playing against the best players in the world so it owuld be a big ask. Overall Hepburn was extremely delighted with his team's performance and he was off to the Caribean for an extended holiday ready for his assault on the Premiership next season.

stevenage.JPG?Planet Stevenage

Well the season was literally over for us anyway so the remaining results didnt really matter too much for us, therefore, I decided to include some of the not so regular players into the starting line up with the experienced first teamers, players like Borg, Porarinson etc.....anyhow, lets see how we got on.

Peterborough vs Stevenage

Its the team team Edan used to manage and they are actually doing a lot better without him too! Currently fighting for the play off places and will be looking to gain three points to help them in their aid, they certainly showed a lot of spirit and put up a good fight, however, it just wasnt good enough for the super boro as sensational captain Juliusson opened the scoring with whats become his trademark, a 30 yard screamer into the top corner, it was followed up with goals from Huckerby and the new club legend Humphreys who continues to score even having got a century of goals for the club. Ft : 2-3

Stevenage vs Preston

I'm pretty happy we wernt fighting for relegation as we face another team who are pushing for a play off place and will be hoping to get back into division one, they certainly got quality in their squad but you need more than talent to get you through in this game and when you have a captain who's on fire, there's no stopping ya. Juliusson just cant stop, he opened the scoring once again with a thundering shot from 35 yards. Despite Preston pushing early on in the game, they just gave up after Poole gave us a nice two goal cushion. Ft: 2-0

Stevenage vs Lincoln

Bit of an odd game this one, its one of them, your all over your opponent, score and they get one shot, score and you see no action for the rest of the match despite your shot count rocketing like a speedometer of a ferrari, so despite dominating the match and taking the lead through on-form captain Julisson and his trademark goal it just didnt produce anymore goals. Ft: 1-1

Oldham vs Stevenage

Its our last game away game of the season and who better than Oldham to host it for us, having had the poor score draw in the last game, it was time to kick them useless reserves players out and put back in the first teamers, did it pay off? Sure did, quality showed once again, he didnt score this time round but Julisson just dominated the midfield, the set-plays were also at their peak as once again, Sims headed in from a right sided corner, his effort was followed up by Humphreys and then new positioned right winger Borg. Ft: 1-3

Stevenage vs Swansea

The last game of the season, its been a fantastic season for us and where better to end it but infront of the home fans. Teams normally like to end the season with a bang, did we deliver? there was never a doubt, it was another display of super football and Huckerby opened up the scoring to get the home fans going, his goal was followed by Poole and then the club legend Humphreys, the game was rounded up with Poole scoring once again to make it a brace for himself. Ft: 4-0

Once again another successful season, the fans are happy, the board are happy and best of all, I'm happy. We've enjoyed plenty of goals which have come from a quartet of strikers with both Humphreys and Poole knocking in over 30 goals each and also Ebanks-Blake almost getting 20 himself, not bad for a debut season.

At the end of season meeting with the board they were overall delighted with the performances and the finances of the club, their only concern was that we were a few thousend of the wage budget but that was re-assured as some players would be leaving in the summer including Matthews who was getting over a grand a week. Overall, about 5 players would be leaving to go onto the free transfer market and make way for new talented players to be brought in as its gonna be a difficult season ahead.

Best news of all though for Stevenage fans, the captain Juliusson who just wouldnt sign a contract has finally decided to sign just weeks ahead of possibly leaving on a free, two/three teams were interested in the services of the talented and inspirational captain but after a hands of warning and then Juli putting pen to paper the teams interest went and my delight of not having to search for another great mid was put at ease.

We'll be hoping that the wage cap gets increased quite a bit for next season as its difficult to get players in who are willing to play for just 1500 quid a week, we need a lot of tv money to go along with our prize money.

West Ham in Europe! – 05/06

3rd May 2006 – Vs Blackburn (A)

After a fantastic April we travel up to Blackburn trying to close the Gap on Manure who are currently top of the premiership, but the Hammers failed to gain any ground in this drab game, Markegard scoring the only goal that sent the West Ham faithful back down south in a depressed state. icon_frown.gificon_eek.gif

Result - Blackburn 1 West Ham 0

6th May 2006 – Vs Middlesborough (H)

West Ham needed to beat the North Easterners if they were to retain any realistic aspirations on the number one spot, especially after the midweek defeat against Blackburn. The boys in claret and blue did not disappoint with Robinho and Mullins settling the match before halftime as the hammers dominated ‘boro. icon_biggrin.gif

Result - West Ham 2 Middlesborough 0

11th May 2006 – Vs PSV (H) – UEFA Cup Semi Final 2nd Leg

A surprisingly low crowd for what is undoubtedly West Ham’s biggest home game for many years! Defoe sets the ball rolling with a simple tap in on 4 minutes, putting the hammers 5 up overall icon_eek.gif Robben equalises for the Dutch team, only for Mullins to reaffirm the Londoners ascendancy on the night! Rommedahl levelled the game just before half time but the dutch team couldn’t penetrate the West Ham defence in the second half so the draw on the night was sufficient after such a huge advantage was gained in the first leg. West Ham, in their first season back in Europe, are in the final against Barcelona!! icon14.gif

Result - West Ham 2 PSV 2 (6-2 on aggregate)

Defoe 4 Robben 15

14th May 2006 – Leeds Utd (A)

A buoyant west ham travelled to Elland Road for the relegation candidates that are Leeds. Smith opened the scoring rather against the run of play, Robinho quickly responded with 2 goals in 7 minutes, with a Defoe goal in between to give the Hammers a 3-1 lead before the half hour. The second half saw a rapid goal straight from kick off to give Robinho his hatrick, with only a Wanchope effort in response the game was West Hams as the boys were obviously back in the groove! icon_biggrin.gif

Result - Leeds 2 West Ham Utd 4

17th May 2004– Arsenal (A)

The form of the impressive West Ham was sustaining a top 2 spot and a UEFA cup final, the trip to Highbury is traditionally one of the sternest tests a team will face in a season. But this Arsenal is one that is decidedly below par in the League, way off the pace for European qualification, with only the hope of winning the champions league to have an option for plying their trade competitively abroad next season! Mullins and Defoe got the Hammers off to a great start, with only a Miccolli goal from Arsenal to send the Hammers in at half time with the lead. The second half brought another goal apiece for the West Ham duo and a solitary response for Kanu to leave the Claret and Blue eastenders triumphant in the North London bastion! The travelling crowd were chanting “can we play you every week†to the obviously seething Wenger as he greeted his players into the tunnel. icon_biggrin.gif The good results keep coming, but Man Utd seem to be on an equally good run and West Ham are still not making headway on the number 1 position. icon_confused.gif

Result - Arsenal 2 West Ham 4

Miccolli 36 Mullins 15,84

Kanu 70 Defoe 20, 75

21st May 2006 – Sunderland (A)

By the time we got to this final league match, Man Utd were already crowned champions of the Premier League, and my 2nd place position was secure, With The UEFA final beckoning Paul Rouch used the opportunity to rest the majority of the first team and give some younger blood a run out. The game was surprisingly close and at the end of the 90 minutes all that separated the two was a goal from West Ham’s young under 19 player Lennon. 1-0 the final score and a champions league berth secured for next season as West Ham celebrated their highest ever finish in the premier league. The fans sang themselves hoarse for the team and the manager icon_biggrin.gificon_cool.gif

Result - Sunderland 0 West Ham 1

24th May 2006 – Vs Barcelona (N) – UEFA Cup

This is it, the big one, the main event, the highest point in the EFB game so far for any of the managers icon_biggrin.gif A huge sellout crowd travelled to the Westfalenstadion in Dortmund to watch the finale to Barca’s and West Ham’s season. The referee, Swede, Anders Frisk, blew the whistle to get this final underway and a cacophony of sound erupted, Ronaldinho had a number of early chances but the nerves of the occasion seemed to be getting to him. Defoe, however, was as cool as a cucumber as he catapaulted the hammers into an early lead and then doubled the advantage within 12 minutes of the kick off. The Hammers fans were going wild as this way and above everyones expectation, to be beating Barca 2-0 in the UEFA final!! icon_eek.gif Although Ronaldinho seemed incapable of hitting a cows arse with a banjo, Kluivert was having no such difficulty and he pulled one back for the Catalan side on 25. Half time came and the score was 2-1 to the Hammers!! icon_biggrin.gif A rousing chorus of bubbles was echoing round the stadium as they came out for the second half, and Barca immediately set about trying to claw back the one goal deficit, but Ronaldinho and Kluivert were both missing easy opportunities, and James was in splendid form keeping them out. Almost inevitably though Ronaldinho finally managed to get through and score to level the tie on 75 minutes. The full time whistle came far too quickly and we entered extra time under the silver goal rule. By now the two teams were exhausted but Barca showed the better penetration and two goals from the Dutch Striker, Kluivert in the first half of extra time took the UEFA Cup back to the nou camp. The West Ham players were devastated, for a second season in succession they had reached a major final only to lose on the day. Some of the younger players collapsed on the pitch in tears as the Spanish team celebrated. Paul Rouch went round to each of his players to congratulate them on an outstanding performance and thank them for getting the team there in the first place. icon_frown.gif

All in all a very good season which saw the hammers build impressively on their 7th place finish last season to a runners up spot this season and the lure of Champions League football next season with all the attaching financial rewards. The board were delighted with the progress and the Fans believe they have one of the finest young managers around at the helm, with a little money, a few shrewd signings, West Ham will be ready to face the cream of Europe next season icon_biggrin.gif

As we await for the new season to begin at norwich i decided to take a walk in the park were i saw empty bottles of rum and coke..

Not spent hardly a penny in mid season but did manage to beat all the giants of the prem to Moore, it should be interesting upfront this season with Samba to play along side...

With young winger wilkie out for 6 month's the new siging Jebb to team up with his old pall wilkie from the Liverpool Youth days he sundenly suffers a damaged spine and is out 7 months, the siging of jebb was already delayed for 6 months as he ruptured a cruciate ligament the day before he was ment to sing, so Norwich will have to wait before they get there two star light wingers in action..

*** EFB Zeitung ***

We welcome you once again to another addition of the most popular zeitung around, its filled full of action from the EFB Season 3 which we have just successfully completed. There were plenty of thrills and spills in our latest season and overall, we all enjoyed success in meeting our targets we set.

Anyway, lets get the show on the road!

FA Barclaycard Premiership

This season see's the Hammers battle it out once again in which is their second season in the Premiership, they made a big impact first time round by finishing 7th and also securing Uefa Cup football, could they do much better this time round? Some big signings were made thats for sure. Joining West Ham manager Paul Rouch this season is Mark Brown who has taken his QPR side from the second division in successive championship titles to the Premier league, the main aim will be to avoid the drop, but can the new signings make them mid-table contenders or even better perhaps.

After last seasons disaster they more than made up for it this season thats for sure, they hit back in the best possible way they could and have taken the Premiership Crown back up north to Manchester, thats right, Man Utd once again seal the deal and stand on top of the Premier League. The champions Arsenal however, well they were not even good enough to qualify for europe this season, too many poor performances and concentration on europe has cost them.

However, London will still see champions league football next season! West Ham have done exceptionally well this season and have stormed into second place, its been goals galore for the Hammers this season and they've produced some very good football. QPR have also enjoyed a successful first season under the guidance of manager Mark Brown, having secured a Premiership place and mid-table safety. A big suprise to all as Mark Brown then switched jobs to take over the hotseat at the Toffee's, Everton of course had also achieved safetey and it was just a case of Brown taking them to the finish for this season.

Unfortunately not every club can stay in the Premiership, so every season we see three teams take the dreaded drop down to Division One, who would it be this season? Well it was a team who's been going between the division since day one, Sunderland find themselves going down followed by in debt and bankrupt club Leeds. One side of Manchester got to celebrate the league title, the half though have to cry as manager Rudi Voller just wasnt good enough to keep Man City up.

Golden Boot

Last seasons French Wizard just wasnt good enough to win it this season, therefore someone else had to take over, its a new kid on the block who's been hammering them in all season for his club. Scoring a total of 28 goals its wonderkid Robinho of West Ham taking the Golden Boot, he's followed by another south american who scored 24 goals and plays for Chelsea, its Hernan Crespo. Its another new player rounding up the scoring with QPR striker Kristjansson who scored a total of 21 goals.

Assists

Some goals are created by individual effort but a lot of them come from good team work and creative players setting them up, this seasons winner came in a joint third place last season, having made 16 assists this season, its Newcastle's front man Miroslav Klose taking the award, he's followed by West Ham's Matthew Etherington with 14 assists and then Everton's midfield maestro Thomas Gravesen and QPR's front man Borut Semler with 13 assists each.

Average Ratings

Every season you can always point out particular players who have performed well above the standard and this season is no different, this season's exceptional talent withouth a doubt has to be Orri Freyr Oskarsson who has been oustanding for the Hammers. Other outstanding performances have been displayed by Boro striker Nathan Ellington and despite their poor season, Thierry Henry did show some magic when heading the Gunners frontline.

Nationwide Division One

The roaring Tigers that are Hull have managed to get two successive promotions under manager Andrew Hepburn and find themselves now just one league away from the Top Flight, could they make it a hattrick and join the elite? Joining half way through the season is a new manager to EFB in Wayne Brister who takes over at his beloved Norwich, can the Canaries fly into the promotion spot or will they be shot down and stuck in the league for another season.

Well the club has been rising ever since the manager took over two seasons ago, it was a tough fight for them but with their strong defence they managed to hold off some of the best clubs in the league, they complete their hattrick and join the elite in the premier league, its Hull City who take the honours of the First Division Crown, who better to follow the Tigers than the Lions themselves, Millwall take up the runners up spot and join the top flight having missed out after losing in the play offs last season.

It was once again another very close fight for the play off places this season, there were plenty of teams who had the chance to get into them. Finally though the play off places were settled and it was once again Charlton in the play offs like last season, they were followed by Coventry and then two of last seasons relegated sides Fulham and Portsmouth. It was them two relegated sides that setup a fantastic looking final, unfortunately though it was a very one sided final.

Play Off Final : Fulham 3 : 0 Portsmouth

Norwich were in the relegation zone when they appointed a new manager, the Canaries appointed Wayne Brister, it was a stuttering start but finally they started to fly up the table and almost made the Play offs too but missed out by just one point.

Norwich had to leave some teams taking up their place in the relegation zone of course, there were three teams once again who just didnt have the quality to stay in the first division and therefore will find themselve even further away from the top flight, this season see's Gillingham, Stoke and Bradford join the Second Division.

Golden Boot

There were no on-loan goal kings in the First Division this season, however it was a player who without a doubt knows how to do the business in the division and has plenty of experience in it, knocking in a total of 28 goals this seasons title goes to Sheff Wed striker Shefki Kuqi, he's followed by Millwall team-mates Neil Harris and Marcus Bent who both scored a total of 23 goals each for their club.

Assists

It was very close this season on who would top this list but the creator of the season finally went to former Blackburn left back but now playing his trade for Brighton is Vratislav Gresko who made 15 assists, he's followed by a joint second place with 14 assists which were made by Watford front man Henrik Pedersen and Gresko's Brighton team mate Leon Knight.

Average Ratings

The league itself was close and there were many players who performed very well indeed week in week out, but there had to be one winner, this seasons winner polished off some of the best defences in the league, its Rushden's Onandi Lowe. Also showing outstanding performances this season were Hull's Stuart Elliot and Rotherham's Panicos Charalambous.

Nationwide Division Two

This season see's former conference side Stevenage Borough take on the challenge that the Second Division brings. The media and board predict a relegation battle for the club but will manager Steve Gold once again beat all the doubters and make it a hattrick of championship crowns.

What a a corker of a season if your a Stevenage fan, after some awesome displays of football on the pitch it became a very one sided affair on who would take the title, you guessed right, its Hattrick time at Stevenage as they take their third successive championship title and one step closer to the top flight. There was plenty of action after that though, a number of teams had been fighting it out for that second automatic promotion spot but on the final day of the season it was Barnsley who managed to snatch it.

Of course that meant now that last seasons relegated side Preston had to try their luck through the play offs, they were joined by Chesterfield who did have a poor showing in the remaining few games of the season but held on, making a last ditch run into the play offs were both Torquay and Peterborough formerly managed by Edan Waldmann. It was his side who also made it to the final where they squared up to Chesterfield who were last seasons finalist losers, it was a tight game and it ended with Penalties.

Play Off Final : Chesterfield 0 : 0 Peterborough (P'boro win on Pens)

There always have to be teams who just find themselves at the wrong end of the table, last season relegated first division side Walsall almost found themselves going down another league but managed to hold off which meant that Grimsby, Southend, Bournemouth and Plymouth make the drop down to Division Three.

Golden Boot

Their team won the league by miles, their teams goal tally blew the roof off the second division so it was no suprise that a Stevenage player would find themselves to the top of the scoring charts, its his third season with the club and he managed to score over 100 goals for them too with this seasons total, its none other than Chris Humphreys who thumped in 31 goals, he is followed by his team mate and fellow strike partner David Poole who knocked in 30 goals. The pair were followed by Wigan's Magno Silva who notched in 28 goals in total.

Assists

With so many goals flying in for Stevenage someone had to be setting them up, well it was none other than their third front man who just kept delivering the crosses in from the left, he was only signed this season by the club and it was his first full season of football ever, its Sylvan Ebanks-Blake who made a club-record 27 assists, he was followed by his team-mate and club captain Olafur Juliusson who made 17 assists from midfield. Kris Commons took third place with 15 assists for Reading.

Average Ratings

Although every Stevenage player made some outstanding performences, this season saw fan favourite Scott Huckerby put in some top draw performances as he dazzled defences with his dribbling, also worth a mention is Garth Harris of Swansea who despite their club not having the best of seasons showed some solid performances.

Nationwide Division Three

We have no managers taking up the challenge of the Third Division but this didnt stop it making it quite an entertaining league.

They missed out on promotion last season after losing in the Play off final, this season they were a class above the rest and showed they deserved to go up, its none other than Cambridge who took the Third Division Crown, they were followed in the automatic promotion places by their rivals Oxford and also last seasons conference kings Burton Albion.

Of course there were four places of promotion available, with three already taken it meant that four teams got to battle it out for that final spot, its Northampton, Doncaster, Luton and York City who would battle it out. It was former Conference side Doncaster who faces York City in the final, it was a good early start that helped the winning team get promotion.

Play Off Final : Doncaster 3 : 1 York City

There are only two relegation places in the Third Division and too many poor performances meant that Boston find themselves back in the Conference, they are followed by a club who are in debt but their talented players just couldnt keep them up, its Huddersfield who join Boston next season.

Golden Boot

This season saw the top striker put away 30 goals against the other sides in the division, the honour of this seasons Golden Boot goes to Northampton's Derek Asamoah. He's followed by Danny Carlton of Yeovil with 28 goals and rounding things off with 26 goals is Leon Clarke who spear heads the Oxford front line.

Assists

The honours are shared this season between two very talented players who have been setting them up consistently for their team, its Christian Fox (Notts C) and Aaron Webster (Burton Albion) who head the list with 17 assists each. They are followed by 16 assists which were made by Glynn Hurst (Wycombe) and Steven Ferguson (Woking)

Average Ratings

The class act of the Third Division has got to go to David Gallagher who plays for Woking, he's been an inspiration for his his side this season. Other top performances were made by Burton Albion duo Andy Ducros and Dale Anderson.

Nationwide Conference

Due to Gareth leaving us it meant that we had no one fighting it out in the lower leagues, although this didnt stop the clubs battling it to see who make it into the football league.

No one could of even predicted this one but their performances throughout the season were top draw and they deserved the title without a doubt, joining the football league and taking the crown of the conference is Gravesend.

With only one promotion spot left to follow Gravesend into the football league it was Forest Green, Farnborough, Aldershot and none other than AFC Wimbledon who'd fight it out for it in the play offs. It was none other than Farborough and of course AFC Wimbledon who advanced to the final and they both gave it a real go of winning it which produced a cracking game for the fans.

Play Off Final : Farnborough 4 : 2 AFC Wimbledon

Unfortunately it just isnt getting any better at all for Port Vale, its now their third successive relegation and this time the debt ridden club find themselves out of the football league, they are followed by another former league side Macclesfield and then newly promoted side Bradford PA who just wernt good enough for the conference.

Golden Boot

They were new to the conference but it didnt look like that for one minute as their striker notched in a total of 31 goals this season, its none other than Rowan Vine of AFC Wimbledon, he's followed by the consistent Neil Somerville who came second last season too and he scored 30 goals this season. In third place is Craig Mackail-Smith who put 27 goals on the board for the champions Gravesend.

Assists

This seasons winner is definately consistent when it comes to assisting team mates, he came third last season but has gone much better this season, after making 14 assists Neil Critchley tops the lot, although he has to share his honour with two other players who also made 14 assists, they are Antonio Trigo (Gravesend) and Dave Watson (Forest Green)

Average Ratings

Despite his team not having the best of seasons his performances certainly would earn him a place in some of the top teams in the leagues, its Matthew Glennon of Kidderminster who showed some top performances, also worth noting was Lee Cox of Gravesend who helped his team capture the title and of course Neil Somerville deserves a place up there too after another consistent season.

Community Shield

The first piece of Silverware is on offer and once again it gets the viewing of a full Millennium Stadium Crowd.

This season's curtain raiser saw Arsenal take on last seasons high flyers West Brom, despite early promise from WBA they were eventually Gunned down by some Young Guns.

Full Time : Arsenal 3 : 1 WBA

League Cup

Last seasons finalists didnt make it to the final but it was the dominance of the nationwide that took over meaning we'd get a new champion and a new team gaining Uefa Cup qualification. This seasons final will see Hull City take on Coventry City.

So how did Hull get there, well here's how they progressed to the final :

1st Round : 2-0 vs Preston

2nd Round : 5-0 vs Crystal Palace

3rd Round : 3-2 vs Southampton

4th Round : 3-1 vs QPR

Qtr Final : 3-0 vs Chesterfield

Semi Final : 0-0 / 3-2 vs Man Utd

They have played some top draw Premiership opposition, could they go on and beat the Sky Blues to lift the league cup. Well it was a close game thats for sure but Hepburns men showed gritt and determination all the way to the final whistle which helped them a lot in this tightly fought contest.

Full Time : Hull 3 : 1 Coventry

FA Cup

The cup that every team wants to win, its of course none other than the Magical FA Cup, unfortunately there were no shocks on the finalists, its Newcastle Utd who take on Romans Millions who go by the name of Chelsea

Despite the Magpies taking the lead in the second half, the goal was cancelled out within minutes and it was the fninishing of the Chelsea striker force that eventually let them lift the FA Cup.

Full Time : Newcastle Utd 1 : 3 Chelsea

Vans Trophy

It was two of the second divisions top sides who managed to progress from their regional finals to battle it out, its Barnsley against Torquay in the final.

What a close game this one was, both teams are doing very well in division two and it had all the action the fans wanted, just as it looked that Barnsley would win it, they were kicked back down to the ground by the flying Gulls.

Full Time : Barnsley 2 : 3 Torquay

FA Trophy

Who better to get into the final but the Conference champions themselves, Gravesend will face Barnet in this seasons final of the FA Trophy.

What a tight game this was, plenty of action at either end but the two teams just couldnt be seperated in normal time, so it went down to the dreaded penalties, it was the champions who kept their cool and made it a Conference Double.

Full Time : Gravesend 1 : 1 Barnet (Gravesend win on Pens)

Champions League

Who would of thought it would happen again, its Italy against England in the final of the champions league, AC Milan take on Arsenal to see who is the best in Europe. Both teams have done well to get to the final and Arsenal need to win this to make sure that there is european football at Highbury next season.

Milan took the lead very early on in the game but Arsenal's French Wizard cancelled out that goal within minutes of the second half, it was all to fight for but once again it was another final that ended with the dreaded penalties.

Full Time : AC Milan 1 : 1 Arsenal (AC Milan win on Pens)

Uefa Cup

Once again we have an English team in the final, they completely destroyed the teams they faced so far upto the final, its none other than Paul Rouch's West Ham, they face spanish giants Barcelona in the final, can they nail them too and bring home the silverware.

So how did the Hammers get into the final, here's how :

1st Round : 3-1 / 4-0 FC Haka

2nd Round : 4-0 / 3-1 Vardar

3rd Round : 3-1 / 5-1 Parma

4th Round : 3-0 / 0-1 Lokomotive Moscow

Qtr Final : 4-0 / 0-1 Spurs

Semi Final : 4-0 / 2-2 PSV

What a final it was, the Hammers took an early two goal cushion and they looked set for the trophy despite a consistent threat from Barcelona. But then finally the spaniards broke through with Kluivert and then Ronaldinho who had been missing lots of easy chances to setup a thrilling extra time. But the West Ham defence were then just not quick enough to stop the Kluivert charge.

Full Time : West Ham 2 : 4 Barcelona

Super Cup

So last seasons champions league winners face upto the uefa cup champions, so Inter against Dinamo Kiev it is. Inter showed their class in this final once more and showed why they are the european champions.

Full Time : Inter Milan 2 : 0 Dinamo Kiev

Head to Head

There was to be plenty more head to head action between the managers this season and we even had them facing each other in the cup competiton, lets see how they got on.

Hungry Tigers eventually take Rangers apart

Its the 4th round of the League cup where Andy's Hull City take on Mark's QPR side, it was an even first half but then Hull eventually showed their class in the second half and dominated play which saw them get through.

Full Time : Hull City 3 : 1 QPR

Fighting Canaries eventually give in to roaring Tigers

Its Andy's Hull who travelled to Wayne's high flying Norwich, despite Norwich being the better side, dominating play and even having more chances, Hull kept them out and made the best of the chances they did get to take the three points home..

Full Time : Norwich City 1 : 2 Hull City

Hammers make top shelf performance over Rangers

It was time for the first clash between these two side, high flying West Ham managed by Paul take on battling QPR managed by Mark. A solid performances by the Hammers put them in the driving seat and continue their superb start to the season.

Full Time : West Ham 2 : 0 QPR

Hammers put final nail in QPR's coffin for the double

Its the return clash of the premiership two, once again it was the consistent and high flying Hammers that made the best of their opportunities and took this game once again by the same scoreline as the first game.

Full Time : QPR 0 : 2 West Ham

The Champions League Welcomes the Hammers 06-07

Transfer Activity

After finishing the season as runners up in both the Premiership and The UEFA cup final Paul Rouch was looking to strengthen the squad. A budget of 9 million was made available and rouchie was keen to spend it wisely. Steve Lomas was released out of contract and David James, at 35, deemed surplus to requirements was sold for a token 55k. A number of the under 19 players were released as they hadn’t made the grade. Paul Rouch picked up Tomi Petrescu on a free as one for the future, also bringing in Sarr and the respected Addo to bolster the defence, also on bosmans. The fans went wild over the signing of Addo, viewing the big name signing as an indication of West Ham’s intent on continuing their impressive progress. The financial director was pleased as he forecast an upsurge in shirt sales! icon_biggrin.gif rouchie then started to splash the cash and bought in ardent West Ham fan Lee Bowyer for a second spell (hopefully longer and more successful!) for just £3 million, to add some bite to the midfield. Man City’s Jason Brown , the English league player of the year, arrived to mind between the sticks, for a bargain priced £2.7 mill as his contract was unprotected. The impressive youngster Alessandro Simonetta was signed from Roma to provide more options up front for an embarrassingly low £1.8 million, again icon_cool.gif, with an unprotected contract. Phillipe Sendoros was signed from Arsenal, and you’ve probably already guessed that his contract was unprotected, hence the fee of only £2.2 million icon_eek.gif Kieran Richardson was brought in on loan, with Man U agreeing to carry on paying his wages as back up for the midfield, and with a couple of weeks until the league restarts, Paul Rouch is not ruling out making more signings. These are exciting times for the hammers, since being relegated under the hapless stewardship of Glen Roeder, they have been rebuilt into an exciting attacking young team that can fight it out at the very top, and are now preparing to join the elite in the champions league! icon_biggrin.gificon14.gif

The Champions League Welcomes The Hammers 06-07

Press Release

West Ham have announced the signing of Titus Bramble which Rouch believes will complete the new look defence. Paul Rouch still refuses to rule out further signings, but admits he has spent the majority of his transfer budget, but is very pleased with the incoming players.

Paul Rouch also took time out to welcome the new managers at Man City and Torquay and wished them both every success in their new roles.

He will be taking over as manager of Torquay and has already made an impressive start to the season.

thedazstar or Darren Gray has also joined us and is managing Man City in Division One. All the best with your team Darren.

stevenage.JPG?The Stevenage Planet

Welcome all Stevenage fans to what should be another cracking season, one the media, the bookies, the board and you the fans all predict will be once again another relegation battle.

Well, I couldnt agree with you more, I dont believe we have the calibre of players at the moment which can take us where we want to go. There are many teams in this league that got the calibre of player which belong into the premiership and should be able to walk into a lot of teams, for us however, we dont have the finances to support such players, we have got some cracking youngster though in the team and I reckon in a few seaons time, we could very well cash in big time on them.

Its difficult to bring in loans, just impossible on this new version of CM, so we gotta do with what we've got.

Well, lets move on to what the new season has to offer, a big relegation battle they say, the bookies give us odds at 40-1 and also predict that we should be gearing up for the drop........something says we've heard this one before but this time i reckon its probably gonna come true.

Anyway, with literally no money coming in apart from the superb fans who have brought season tickets, TV money was literally nothing, no where near a million, about half of that, so very dissapointing for a club like ours who were looking forward to some cash.

Anyhow, we settle for 200k in the kitty, our best ever budget in 4 seasons, so who did we buy!

Transfers In

Carl Lewis - 45k - Super fast midfielder who's also great at set pieces.

Wayne Thomas - 100k - brought from relegated stoke, best defender of a side that went down and definately needed to tighten our defence

Mark Goodman - Free - An excellent young striker released by Coventry, has pace and brilliant shooting and heading ability

Ben Mackey - Free - Just like above, from Coventry and a marks man for the future

Darren Gibson - From the school of excellence that is Old trafford, the irish man follows in the footsteps of Keane, excellent mid.

K.Morgan - as above, from utd, a very pacey forward and only 18, definately for the future.

Tierney - Once again, former utd, but he went to Wolves and now has been released, needed excellent left sided cover, meets the demand.

Players Out

Lee Matthews - Despite a brilliant signing 3 seasons ago, he had to go, just didnt have the pace to keep up with these youngsters

Dean Brennan - The irish man got on my nervers too much, always complaining, well he can do that at Luton now.

Inglewood - Good utility player but unfortunately we couldnt keep him as his positions were all fully covered.

We released other players too, mainly a bunch of crap youngsters who were just taking too much of the wage budget up.

So there, the summer had ended, the season began.......

Hull_2.JPG?

The Premiership welcomes the Tigers!!!

Here on Sky Sports News we now delighted to have Hull City manager join us for a chat into life at The Circle.

Georgie Thompson : So Andrew how has life been since your promotion to the Premiership?

Well pre season has been frantic for all of those involved with Hull City Football Club. Pre season has seen a couple of new faces appear through the doors of The Circle. The first of those was Christopher Eagles signed from Manchester Utd for a fee of £1.2 million. He is young and has the potential to be a great player for Hull. It also means the competition hots up for the right side of midfield position.

The next new face to appear was Michael Stewart another youngster who was not given the chance to fufil his potential at Old Trafford. Well I am glad he is on board at Hull as he has the makings of a great defensive midfielder for many years to come. He came in on a free transfer which is an added bonus.

And last but no means least Hull City managed to persuade Freddy Gaurin to leave the sights of the sun and sea to come to Hull to play his football. I paid £1.3 million for his talents and what talent he possesses. He will go on to be a world class player that's for sure.

Most of the transfer budget has now gone due to major working on The Circle that will see the capacity of The Circle increase dramatically. I have not ruled out any more dealings in the transfer market although they will be limited to frees or loans now. I am still on the lookout for another top class striker but my recent efforts have came to nothing due to red tape.

Georgie Thompson:

Well it's onto the season now and it's good luck to Hull City. Many thanks to Hull manager Andrew Hepburn for this in depth interview into life at The Circle during pre season.

*Interview ends and Georgie is seen get up close and personal with Hepburn in his office*
