The Champions League Welcomes the Hammers 06-07

As we entered the serious part of the season, Paul Rouch received the Manager of the Month Award and Robinho was presented with the Player of the Month after the Hammers team went through February recording 5 straight victories and extending their unbeaten run to 17 games in all competitions icon_cool.gif

10th March 2007 – Vs Everton (H) FA Cup 6th Round

Mark Brown’s Everton were next to visit fortress Boleyn. A tightly fought first half which saw West Ham gaining the upper hand with a Kallstrom strike the only action before half-time. The second half was a different story with Thu and Robinho netting to give the Hammers a comfortable win and safe passage to the Semi Final of the FA cup icon14.gif

Result - West Ham 3 Everton 0

Kallstrom 16

Thu 64

Robinho 70

Att – 33520

14th March 2007 – Vs Bayern Munich (A) Champions League 2nd Round 2nd Leg

The hammers travelled to Germany with a 2 goal advantage from the first leg, Pizarro reduced the deficit with an early strike, and the teams went in at half time with just the Pizarro separating them on the night icon_mad.gif The second half was much brighter , and turned into absolute goal fest! Kallstron equalised for West Ham, Robinho then added another 2 before Di Viao pulled one back for Bayern . Simonetta scored the final goal in the final minute as West Ham went through to the Champions League Quarter finals, 4-2 on the night, 7-3 on aggregate! The travelling hammers fans certainly got their moneys worth tonight! icon_biggrin.gif

Result - Bayern Munich 2 (3) West Ham 4 (7)

Pizarro 10 Kallstrom 48

Di Viao 87 Robinho 50, 62

Simonetta 90

Att – 58736

18th March 2007 – Vs Newcastle (H)

West Ham played host to the table topping Geordies hoping to cut their lead by 3 points as the Hammers prepared for the final run in hoping to launch a challenge for the title! Things started badly though with the prolific German sharpshooter, Klose, netting straight from the kick off! Things went from bad to worse as the hammers saw Etrherington sent off needlessly halfway through the first half. West Ham hastily reorganised and managed to reach half time with out incurring any further damage. The second half came and Repka blew a fuse and joined Etherington in the changing room earlier than expected as West Ham were now down to 9 men! The irons withstood a lot more Newcastle pressure but were resigned to losing their unbeaten run with 9 men against 11, when Oskarsson for the last kick of the game, equalised! The Hammers fans went Mad, Paul Rouch went mad, jumping up and down on the sidelines as if he had won the lottery! At the post match interview Paul Rouch said “Sure, I went a little over the top, but that has to be one of the best comebacks since Lazarus was a boy! t it was all about the character of the team to come back from the earliest of goals, losing two key players to the refs red card and still remaining unbeaten on this long run! With Hull losing on the same day, it means we have moved within 3 points of 2nd place, Watch out boys, we’re coming to get you!†icon_biggrin.gif

Result – West Ham 1 Newcastle 1

Oskarsson 90 Klose 1

Att -33614

24th March 2007 – Vs Man Utd (A)

After the stirring comeback against the Geordies, West Ham failed to perform at the Theatre of dreams as Man Utd easily overcame West Ham with Del Piero opening the scoring in the 1st minute (again! I must remember to set the players alarms earlier!) and then Giggs securing the 3 points with United’s second. This result saw Newcastle extend their lead at the top as the hammers slipped to 4th.icon_mad.gif

Result – Man Utd 2 West Ham 0

Del Piero 1

Giggs 32

Att –60976

28th March 2007 – Vs Dinamo Kiev (A) Champions League Quarter Final 1st Leg

An abject performance from the Hammers and a homer referee saw the Ukrainians take full advantage with Oliseh and Thu sent off the home side romped home to 3-0 lead which would surely be enough to see them through the 2nd leg and into the semi-finals? icon13.gif

Result - Dinamo Kiev 3 West Ham 0

Nanni 7

Belkevich 41

Gavracic 69

AS you can see by the results they havent been great to watch but the last 7 games has seen Torquay take a vital 11 points. It may not sound great but 11 points is great for a team fighting to keep in the 2nd div. Such a sad place for a promosing team who finished in the play offs position last year.

You would of thought with a new manager doing not so well that the board would be thinking of axing the newly appointed manager but this is by far the opposite as the board are ver pleased as also the fans.

Cambridge Vs Torquay

Well after forgettin to put 2d view on i missed the 1st half chances, but we did scored a penalty through James Graham to give us a 1-0 lead into half time. Then the pressure from cambridge started to amount on us but poor finishing on there account kept us the lead. Then a late burst from substitue Makofo saw a through ball from hodges played into his path and he dribbled the ball 20 yards then squeezes in a tight shot into the near post to give a 2-0 lead to torquay away from home, this sounded great as there was only 6 mins to go, and how wrong was I. Cambridge then threw caution to the wind and scored 3 goals within 5 mins to claim a 3-0. This was particularly hard on Torquay as they survived the storm till all over 84mins when 3 shots on goal from cambridge equals 3 goals from cambridge. Another poor performance from the defence cost us another match. Lets hope we can fix this!

MOM = No-one deserved it icon_frown.gif

Final Score = Cambridge 3 - 2 Torquay

Torquay vs Gllingham

Another home match at Plainmoor where we should take more points from games as only taking 19points from home but 34points away, this is a weird statistic but it has to be sorted as home form is key to staying alive!

Well New CB signing Enio was brought in a day before the transfer deadline, and is given his first team appearance due to the injured fullarton, and suspended laker.

After a poor performance from the defence last game around the defence was well up to scratch in this game as they forced only 1 attempt on target from gillingham.

This made it and easy job for the strikers but in-exception James Graham played a stunner with scoring 2 goals and setting up the 3rd for Brazilian striker Christian.

MOM = James Graham, CLass above the rest.

Final Score = Torquay 3 - 0 Gillingham

Burton Albion Vs Torquay

Another decisive game for the gulls as burton are currently in the drop zone. The games first goal came from AAron Webster for Burton, after 11 shots on goal by us they had 1 attempt and finished it superbly. On the other hand we were wasting chances left, right and center. This soon changed when William Flood on loan from Man City scored on 40mins to get us back in just before the interval. Then came on super-sub himself makofo and as he came on, an inswinging caught out the Albion defence and big Centre Back Simon Mensing was there with a leaping header to send the gulls into a 2-0 lead. this then changed as makofo started to take control of the ball and dribble at the nervous albion defence, which lead to another corner which this time youngster Neil Adams nodded into the back of the net in the 88th min. There was still time for onemore as makofo counted on some slack defending to slot past albions keeper to make the final score 4-1 to the gulls easing relegation worries.

MOM = Makofo, Sub that changed the game around with a part in all 3 winning goals.

Final Score =Burton Albion 1 - 4 Torquay

Torquay vs Ipswich

WIth ipswich one place above me it would be good to gain 3 points against the Town. This was helped when James Graham scored in 1:30. ANd another goal from Christian gave us a 2-0 lead and it was looking comfortable till Simon Mensing suprisngly got himself sent off with 2 silly yellow cards in 40mins, this then put us on the back foot the whole game and it proved is toll when ipswich scored 3 goals to bury us into another home defeat with once again silly mistakes from the defender.

MOM = James Graham work his arse off up front.

Final Score = Torquay 2 - 3 Ipswich

stevenage.JPG?Planet Stevenage - Mission Impossible : Completed

Well its the final run in, any slip ups can cost us promotion and we gotta continue winning to keep ahead of the rest. We havnt got the easiest of finishes to the season as we face most of the play off contenders and they wont be such a walk over.

Well things were going great in the session, we thrashed Derby 4-0 and were 1-0 vs Leeds when the most unbelievable thing happen........the game crashed icon_frown.gif So therefore in great CM tradition i knew that the restart is gonna cost us them vital points. Well, after the restart this is how we got on.......

Stevenage vs Man City

Its a human manager battle, the current top two in the league against one another. This looked to be an absolute corker of a game, both teams are scoring lots and conceding very few. As much as the game was built up it didnt live upto expectations as defences were very much on top. Neither attack could break through and it ended in a rather boring game. Although neither manager will complain too much as they remain as the top two in the league.

Stevenage 0 - 0 Man City

Derby vs Stevenage

From thrashing them 4-0 to finding ourselves in a completely different game, having enjoyed cruise control before the crash, we went 2-0 down, god knows how but in cm style we were literally down and out.....well until Carl Lewis pulled one back which was to follow with a last minute equaliser by the one and only super star striker who just happens to score when you need him most, Magno Silva-Viera blasted the ball home to secure a vital point.

Derby 2-2 Stevenage

Stevenage vs Leeds

Once again, Leeds had to call the creditors in as they went into debt earlier in the season. They have got a bag full of talent including Robinson their super goalie, they've been lucky to hold onto such decent players but who needs players worth millions when you can get one from Wayne's Norwich side for 10k? Yes you guessed it, Notman is the man, he's fast becoming a favourite with the crowd as he seems to score goals from nothing.

Stevenage 1-0 Leeds

Then the shocker of the season, unbelievable what has happened to us now, The one the only Magno Silva Viera will be missing action for 2months due to injury.......nooooooooooooooooo icon_frown.gif Will the rest of the squad manage without the hero of the season? Well life got more difficult as we also have star keeper Crockett out for 3 weeks aswell. However, I rallied the troop together and told them they have to fight, they need to stand up and be counted. With Man City's results not going as expected, it means we are at the summit of Division 1 by a small margin........but can they hold out is the question with only 8 games to go!

Charlton vs Stevenage

It has become a time of trying to see Man City and Norwich results and matching it or doing better. Well it was a difficult game coming up, another talented team we're up against. After early domination we finally get our deserved goal through Poole who notches in his 24th of the season. Despite continous domination through out the match, in the 85th minute the CM came back to its best and let Charlton score, i saw it coming after we had missed so many easy chances. Although with City drawing, we were still top.

Charlton 1-1 Stevenage

Portsmouth vs Stevenage

Once again another tough opponent who is in a crap league position, but this game see's up line up against recently sold Ebanks-Blake. We didnt think he would pose a thread and damn right I was, he had a quiet little game, what a sell! icon_smile.gif Anyway, it was cruise control as by half time we enjoyed a nice two goal cushion after goals from Tierney and also the creative Notman. Despite enjoying domination in the second half too it was Pompey with 4minutes left who got a goal out of nothing, thankfully, we managed to hold off though and take the points home. With the City manager absent for his game, his side could only manage another draw which gives us a tidy 4point gap.

Portsmouth 1-2 Stevenage

Stevenage vs Sheff Wed

They beat us last time and their also fighting it out in the play offs were its very tight indeed. However, we dont care about them, we want revenge and that we certainly got despite it taking a while. It looked all on course as Hidalgo nodded in an early goal for us, but despite dominating once again it took us 20 minutes from time to double the lead from the one and only Notman, then in the last minute, Hidalgo headed a through ball into Agar's path who beat the offside trap and ended up lobbing the keeper to round things up. Norwich drew there game taking us 13 points clear of third place in the league, what a favour it was.

Stevenage 3-0 Sheff Wed

Well there are only 4 games left of the season, we face 2 play off contenders who wont be easy to beat but at the moment, anything is possible.

However, there is excellent news for Stevenage fans cos with Norwich's draw it means we are 13points clear with only 12points left to play for, that means..........

Stevenage are PROMOTED to the Premiership

Thats right, with games to spare, they have done it, Stevenage have gained 4 successive promotions and finally join the elite that is the Premiership.

Stevenage fans were jumping for joy and singing Stephen Gold's name in the streets and from their roof tops, they cannot believe it.

In a quick interview with manager Stephen Gold he said that he was delighted with the effort put in by the board and the players to achieve what four seasons ago was called a miracle, mission impossible.

He said his aim was to get Stevenage into the Premiership when he started four seasons ago as the lowly placed conference side, they laughed but still wished him the best of luck.........well the only one laughing now is the man himself who will also give a full interview once the season is completed.

The Champions League Welcomes the Hammers 06-07

7th April 2007 – Vs Middlesborough (H)

After the disappointment of their champions league performance midweek, the Hammers needed a performance to raise the morale of the team and the fans and also to keep the pressure on the title race leaders. A tight first half saw West Ham leave it til the last kick of the 45 minutes for Simonetta to take the lead. Gavilan converted a penalty early in the second half and Kallstrom grabbed the third at the end of the game to record an emphatic win icon_biggrin.gif

Result - West Ham 3 Middlesborough 0

Simonetta 45

Gavilan Pen 49

Kallstrom 89

Attendance 21497

11th April 2007 – Vs Dinamo Kiev (H) Champions League Quarter Final 2nd Leg

After losing the first leg 3-0 a real turnaround of fortunes was required but West Ham, in front of a surprisingly low crowd (31000 average IRL in Div 1! FFS SI Sort it out!), could not break down the dogged defence of Dinamo until mid way through the second half when Robinho netted. The Hammers tried desperately but were unable to add to the first goal and exited the Champions league 3-1 on aggregate. icon_frown.gif

Result - West Ham 1 (1) Dinamo Kiev 0 (3)

Robinho 69

Attendance 24596

15th April 2007 – Vs Leicester (A)

A tight first half with a goal for each side, Oskarssons opener cancelled out by Seretis. Bowyer regained the lead for the hammers but this was cancelled out quickly by Bridges then Robinho displayed his silky skills to grab a brace and Oskarsson grabbed another to grab a late brace to seal a resounding win icon14.gif

Result – Leicester 2 West Ham 5

Bridges 61 Bowyer 59

Robinho 65, 71

21st April 2007 – Vs Blackburn (H)

Another tight first half before Thu put the hammers in the lead just before the break. Oskarsson and Defoe grabbed one apiece to seal the win as the coasted to Victory against the rovers icon_biggrin.gif

Result –West Ham 3 Blackburn 0

Thu 44

Oskarsson 69

Defoe 78

Attendance 30085

24th April 2007 – Vs Tottenham (N) FA Cup Semi Final

A superb start fro West Ham as Kallstrom grabbed 2 and Robinho the 3rd to give the Hammers a fantastic start in the fiercely contested semi final between two old foes. Disaster struck just before half time however as the influential Bertelsen was dismissed and Spurs awarded a duly converted Penalty to put them back in the game against 10 men West Ham, the second half was predictable West Ham squandered their own penalty chance (no sending off though icon_confused.gif ) shortly after the restart and Spurs clawed it back to 3-3 and then took the lead. The only surprise was when Kallstrom levelled the score just before full time. Extra Time was played but the deadlock was not broken and so to penalties, and although the yids managed to miss their first 2 penalties they still outscored the hammers and were through to the final, West Ham were becoming a team of nearly men icon_mad.gif as they have missed out one major competitions at the closing stages each season.icon_eek.gif

Result –West Ham 4 Tottenham 4 (2-3 on pens)

Kallstrom 4, 25, 88 Marney Pen 43

Robinho 21 Nene 53

Keane 66, 75

Attendance 86318

28th April 2007 – Vs Millwall(A)

West Ham now out of the FA Cup after coming so close to the final need to focus on the league again as this is their last remaining chance of any silverware, and that still relies on Newcastle and Hull dropping points. West Ham have to concentrate on winning and trusting to luck that SOMETHING might go their way! Sinama-Pongolla opened the scoring and Morgan added to it in the second half as West Ham played their old enemies Millwall at the New Den. A late strike from Bent gave the Lions some hope but Morgan struck immediately to put the game beyond doubt. Another 3 points for the hammers. Can they sneak it? Only a few games now, so time will tell icon_wink.gif

Result –Millwall 1 West Ham 3

Bent 90 Sinama- Pongolla 38

Morgan 54, 90

Torquay END OF SEASON UPDATE

Blackpool vs Torquay

10th placed team Blackpool team or 11 points ahead of Torquay so they go in the match with a bit less pressure then torquay as they are not clear from relegation yet. Well it kicked off and the first shot from Blackpool ended up in the back of torquays net, chris martins with the clinical finish. After 3 players surrounding teh ball the blackpool player was still able to play it through to striker martins who finihsed with ease. Then torquay took postion and wasted chance after chance. Poor finishing from brazlian striker Christian was costing us so makofo made way at half time to spice things up a bit but still nothing came of good as blackpool took another chance and scored once again through chris martins. The first 2 shots from blackpool ended up both goals this was disapointing but proves who clinical finishing is necessary. All through out the 2nd half we attacked their goal but no-one could seem to get that all important first goal with graham, makofo and alexander unable to do anything to help the cause.

MOM = James Graham - Always kept trying to the last minute.

Final Score = Blackpool 2 - 0 Torquay

Torquay vs Wigan

Well, after poor finishing the match before, it was a total relief that defender Simon Mensing, and great youngster Jamie Hodges was back to play int he first team. This proved a great relief as mensing was the voice of the back 3 and hodges was the mastermind of the midfield. 4 excellent goals from James graham and a extra from Richard jones sealed a great 5-0 win. Also the clean sheet was an added bonus with Adams, Mensing and Enio worked great together to sort the wigan attack into their back pocket while James Graham along with jamie hodges demolished the wigan defenses.

MOM = Jamie Hodges - james Graham might have scored the goals but 15yr old Jamie Hodges ran the midfield to help secure the win.

Final Score = Torquay 5 - 0 Wigan

Oxford vs Torquay

With oxford only 3 points away from the gulls a good win would take them above oxford by goal difference. And when i say a good win, we got a good win. 4 goals came in the first 24 minutes after some great plays along with superb finsihing. With key defender Neil Adams out David Carns done a great job with filling and also adding a goal to the 4-0 tally, but with oxford grabbing 2 goals, the score ended up 5-2 to the gulls. Also relegation is not an issue as 6 points off the rop secures my survival.

MOM = Jamie Hodges = Once again a great display from the youngstar with goal and assist in the game.

Final Score = Oxford 2 - 5 Torquay

Torquay vs Wigan

Last game of the season just playing for pride now, and they sure played with pride with some great build up play to produce 3 stunning first half goals, pick of the bunch comin from Christian, after great work the brazlian added a bit of flair to his finish with a top corner lob. A 90 minute goal from wigan gave them some consolation.

MOM = Jamie Hodges - Can this boy be any worse?

Final Score = Torquay 3 - 1 Wigan

Last Game of the season and we finished 12th, which is relatively halfway through the table, which isnt bad for a team who were fighting to stay up. Hopefully some new signings from the newly promoted premiership sides. will help my cause for promotion and with a bit of luck and good football you might see torquay in the 1st div for the 1st time.

stevenage.JPG?Planet Stevenage : Four!!!

Welcome once again fans of Stevenage, fans of the Boro! Well the club has been guided to the elite in the last session and what was left were 4 games which could see an amazing 4th successive championship title go into the club's trophy cabinet!

Well, four tough games are remaining but with four points clear of Man City managed by Daz, will Stevenage slip up and gift wrap the title to City? Well there's only one way to find out.......so here's the round up icon_smile.gif

Wimbledon vs Stevenage

Its a cruncher away tie but I would say its in our favour slightly as Wimbledon are on a massive losing streak at the moment, can they finally beat their losing streak and make the title racer closer? Got to be joking aint ya! Well a very confident Stevenage side came out on top in this one with relative ease. It took just minutes from the kick off for the very first goal to go in from yours truly Poole. It was followed by a cracker by Notman before half time. Second half was even more dominated as Hidalgo got one and then Poole swept up and went on to complete an amazing hattrick.

Wimbledon 0-5 Stevenage

Stevenage vs Peterborough

Back infront of the home fans and its the place we've been showing some brilliant performances this season and this game was certainly going to be another one of them. Dominating the game completely but a goal didnt come that early. EVentually though both Juliusson and bargain boy Notman put 30 yard scorchers into the net and it was followed by hot property Poole to make it 4 goals in 2 games. With results going our way, City had now drawn both their last 2 games leaving us at the top and as champions too icon_smile.gif

Stevenage 3-0 Peterborough

Rotherham vs Stevenage

What a tricky last away game, Rothers are fighting for that last play off place and if they win they will get it too, they need to get something in this game to stand a chance. Well despite the game going all of our way we just couldnt finish Rotherham off, unbelievable the amount of chances we missed but in true CM Fashion, Rothers got into it by making is 2 goals from 2 attacks. So it ended up square but the results dont matter too much anymore as we are champions already. But Notman was the man of the moment in this game with 2 fantastic 30 yard screamers.

Rotherham 2-2 Stevenage

Stevenage vs Coventry

Where better to finish the season but infront of the home fans against play off side Coventry, the Sky blues have been pretty good all season and shown solid performances. However, so have we and I wanted a win on my last day in this division, especially as it was infront of the home fans. Coventry got a good early start but it didnt take long before the Stevenage train left the depot and passed straight through Coventry station. A class throwing led to Hidalgo curling in a shot to the top right hand corner and it was later followed by a penalty taking by Carl Lewis, Coventry had Pead sent off which led to the penalty. A good last day for both me, the players and best of all, the fans icon_smile.gif

Stevenage 2-0 Coventry

A brilliant end to a season that started off so badly for us, our defence was solid in the remaining games keeping 3 clean sheets out of 4 in the last session. Over 100 goals and 100 points rounds the season off as a very successful one and it also means we are the CHAMPIONS!! Our 4th successive promotion and of course 4th successive championship crown icon_smile.gif

*** EFB Zeitung ***

We welcome you once again to another edition of the EFB Zeitung that will review the latest season in our game. We have successfully completed season 4 now and what a season it was, full of twists and turns at every stage of the season.

Well let's get straight to the action!

FA Barclaycard Premiership

Fighting it out once again in the Premiership are runners up West Ham managed by Paul Rouch, he's spent his money wisely so can the Hammers go one better this season and take the title or will they just miss out once more. Joining him like last season is Mark Brown, but this time he will be in charge of his new club Everton where there has been a lot of wheeling and dealing, but are they enough to get him into the top half of the table is the question. There is also a new face this season with Hull joining the elite, after 3 successive promotions manager Andrew Hepburn wants to prove his team are good enough to battle it out with the best there is to offer although if not instant success is brought to the club i'm sure he'll be just as happy to stay in the Premiership and build from there.

What an exciting end to this seasons Premiership, it came right down to the final day and four teams all had the chance to take the title. All of them secured the champions league places already but it was a case of which ones will go through automatically and which ones will have to qualify. The scores were coming through and it was absolutely thrilling end, as full time appoached and results were starting to come through we find that, Hull had blown it as have Spurs who both drew, then Newcastle scored the winner meaning they take the deservered Premiership Crown, there was still some drama left as a win for West Ham would see them runners up again, they looked all on course until they conceded a late 90th minute goal meaning they end up fourth overall.

So it finished with Newcastle being Champions, very much deserved too as they were difficult to beat and also have the best defensive record. Premiership debutants Hull showed they were no push over either with some high scoring games for them throughout the season and they pushed all the way to the end. Paul Rouch and his West Ham did very well to recover and be in with a shout for the title, having starting badly they managed to find their feet again and secure champions league footie for another season. Mark Brown's Everton side were tipped for relegation but he wanted to do much better and he certainly did that, the big money clubs finished ahead of him but he guided the Toffee's into a very good 8th spot which almost got his team into Europe too.

Well they were the winners of this season, unfortunately there have got to be some losers too but its just their own fault for not being good enough. Birmingham were the first team to be relegated and it was just a matter of time as they had only got 3 draws and 4 goals before replacing the manager but it was all too late by that time. Joining them in Division 1 next season are Leicester who joined the Premiership a couple of seasons ago and Millwall completes the trio.

Golden Boot

Well none of last season's goal kings managed to repeat their show and therefore we have some new faces taking the Golden Boot award. Edging out the competition this season with a total of 26 goals its West Ham's very pacey front man Orri Freyr Oskarsson, he was closely followed by the French Wizard who plays for the Gunners, of course its Thierry Henry who banged in 25 goals this season. Completing the top three is Adrian Mutu of Chelsea who scored 23 goals.

Assists

Once again we have a new winner and who else could it be but last seasons goal king Robinho, he spearheaded the Hammers attack and created a total of 23 assists to take the award. He's followed by another creative individual who plays for Man Utd, he made 17 assists this season, its none other than Cristiano Ronaldo. He was last seasons winner but he has to settle for third this season, of course its Miroslav Klose who made 15 assists for Newcastle.

Average Ratings

Well he impressed everyone last season with superb displays week in, week out and once again he has more than lived upto expectations, he has also won the Golden Boot award, you've guessed it, its Orri Freyr Oskarsson. His team-mate was just as outstanding this season who deserves a mention too, its none other than creative front man Robinho. Despite another poor season for Arsenal, Thierry Henry once again showed some magic too and deserves a mention.

Nationwide Division One

Having missed out on the play offs last season, Wayne Brister is aiming to get his Norwich side promoted this season, its his first full season in charge and he has brought some very talented players in to Carrow Road and beating competition from premiership teams for these players. Making his debut is Darren Gray who takes charge of a highly talented Man City squad, tipped for automatic promotion and their absolutely loaded too which meant there was a lot of new talent on show to bring the glory home and re-join the elite. Joining them is Stevenage managed by Stephen Gold, despite already having 3 successive championship titles they are once again tipped for relegation, can they define the odds once more and do the unthinkable once more.

Well it was a very exciting season in Division One, despite them having a poor start by their standards they eventually managed to beat the odds and finally meet their dreams by joining the elite of the Premiership, once again manager Stephen Gold has done it and Stevenage secured their 4th successive championship. It wasnt easy as they had to fight all the way to the end against some very highly talented squads but it was Darren Gray's Man City who got the runners up spot and that vital second automatic promotion place, they couldnt afford to slip up and Gray made sure that they got promoted.

The Play Offs as always saw plenty of teams battle it out for them final four places to give themselves a chance of promotion, it came right down to the final day once more and this season see's Coventry, Norwich, Sheff Wednesday and Cardiff battle it to see who can make that giant leap. Wayne Brister's Norwich lost the first leg 2-1 but managed to win 2-0 in the second leg meaning they went through to the final, joining them there is Sheff Wednesday who managed to hold off Cardiff.

Play Off Final : Norwich 0 : 1 Sheff Wed

Norwich were very unlucky to miss out, despite being the better side they couldnt finish their chances and it eventually cost them. Without a doubt they'll be aiming to go one better next season and secure an automatic promotion spot.

Despite having a lot of talent in their squad it was a suprise to see these teams get relegated from Division One, but if your not good enough then unfortunately your always gonna go down. Sheff Utd were expecting to be fighting for the play offs but something went wrong defensively as they just let in a shed load of goals every game. Another side tipped to get promotion were Portsmouth, they were play off finalists last season but despite their talent couldnt do anything about going down, joining them is also Brighton who like Sheff Utd just kept conceding too many each game.

Golden Boot

The award this season is shared between two very talented strikers who certainly showed they know where the net is, they both scored a total of 28 goals this season its Cherno Samba (Norwich) and David Poole (Stevenage). Three players managed to smash in 25 goals and just missed out on that top award.

Assists

There was a very creative midfielder at Norwich this season and he was very much involved in a lot of goals, he takes the award with a total of 22 assists, its Amado Guevara. He was followed by a trio who made 17 assists each, they are Dean Ashton (Crewe), Franciso Pavon (Barnsley) and John Parkinson (Coventry).

Average Ratings

He was brought in on loan to Man City who eventually purchased him from Aston Villa for 4million pounds, without a doubt he was worth it and he showed that he was too good for Division One football, of course its none other than Stephen Pearson for Man City. Also worth mentioning are Onandi Lowe who did well for a poor Rushden side and instrumental Stevenage captain Olafur Juliusson.

Nationwide Division Two

We once again have another debutant, its Rob White who joins EFB and takes over his beloved Torquay, will the Gulls fly high and enjoy a successful season or will it all fall apart, there's a lot of work needed to be done but wont know what this new manager is capable of until the seasons finished!

They didnt really have the best of seasons last year but they have certainly managed to strengthen their squad and pushed themselves all the way. Its Colchester who takes the Division Two Crown and promote themselves to Division One. Joining them is another team who managed to turn around their fortunes and will be playing Division One football next season, its none other than Oldham.

Last season's finalist Chesterfield once again made it to the play offs, could they finally get their promotion, well its not going to be easy as their joined by Brentford, Cheltenham and Gillingham. Well Chesterfield once again were not good enough and they didnt even get to the final, it was Gillingham and Cheltenham who too their chances the best and setup a thrilling final, penalties looked certain until Cheltenham took charge in extra time to secure promotion!

Play Off Final : Cheltenham 4 : 2 Gillingham

Rob White's Torquay side didnt have the best of seasons, for a long time they were finding themselves fighting off relegation but eventually a good run of results meant they managed to pull themselves away from the dog fight and get a respectable mid table position, a lot of new signings have been brought in and Rob will be hoping to build on recent fortunes and take them even higher in the league.

The relegation battle did remain quite exciting and was finally settled on the last day of the season where newly promoted side Burton Albion found themselves going back down to Division Three, following them are former Division 1 side Walsall and then also Bristol Rovers and Tranmere complete the set.

Golden Boot

As last seasons top three all play their trade for Stevenage it was no surpise to find new faces topping the scoring chart. Making the best of the chances he got was Swansea's Gareth Harris who managed to notch in a total of 25 goals this season and takes the award home with him. He was closely followed by Preston's Ricardo Fuller who got 24 goals. Third place was shared by Danny Forrest and Jamie Donnelly who got 22 goals each for Bradford and Wigan respectively.

Assists

His team were not so good this season especially as they also went bankrupt but Thomas Butler still managed to pull something out the bag for Wigan and eventually finished first with a total of 16 assists. He was followed by Cheltenham's Grant McCann who made 14 assists in total.

Average Ratings

He showed he was a class act last season and once again he was easily top dog again, he's already won the Golden Boot award this season, its none other than Swansea's front man Gareth Harris. Colchester's left back Jonathan Ashton also put in some fine displays and a lot of interest has been shown in him by top clubs. Also worth a mention is Dale Anderson who was the best out of a bad bunch at Burton Albion.

Nationwide Division Three

We have no managers taking up the challenge of the Third Division but this didnt stop it making it quite an entertaining league once again.

It was the former conference sides that took charge this season in Division Three and they took the promotion spots by storm. They got promoted via the Play Offs last season but this season they took the title, Its none other than Farnborough. Completing a conference double is Gravesend, the conference champions managed to take up runners up spot to make it two successive promotions. Following the two former conference sides is Darlington who were made to fight for that third automatic promotion place.

It was another exciting Play Off this season which see's Northampton, Southend, Halifax and Notts County all fight it out for that fourth promotion spot. It was Southend and Northampton though who took the initative and got through to the final. It was a close encounter that led to extra time, eventually it was tired Northampton who crumbled and let former West Ham striker Lee San score a brace and take Southend through

Play Off Final : Southend 2 : 0 Northampton

Unfortunately there always have be teams that get relegated but it was ever so close at the bottom and teams really showed some spirited late performances but it was just too little too late, going out of the football league this season are Luton and Carlisle.

Golden Boot

Well last seasons winner was kicked off top spot by last seasons conference runner up, his goals led his team to the title and with a massive total of 36 goals he deserves the Golden Boot, its none other than Neil Somerville. Its a tie for second place and its some the usual suspects from last season doing it again, both scored a total of 30 goals each for their clubs, they are Steven Ferguson (Woking) and Gerald Asamoah (Northampton)

Assists

He was involved in almost everything that Gravesend had to offer this season and he certainly was one of the main reasons they got promoted, with a total of 21 assists he deserves top spot, its Antonio Trigo. Following him with 16 assists its Andrew Bagshaw of Darlington and in third with 14 assists its Mansfield top man Colin Larkin.

Average Ratings

Well he completely demolished defences this season and he deserves this award along with his Golden Boot award, its Farnborough's super striker Neil Somerville. Gravesend team-mates Lee Cox and Antonio Trigo also put in some fantastic performances and helped guide their team to that second automatic promotion spot.

Nationwide Conference

We had no one battling it out in the Conference this season but that sure didnt stop it going down to the last game of the season to see who gets promoted.

It was Uri Gellar's spoon bending Exeter who baffled the crowds and managed to snatch that first place and get back into the football league, their this seasons champions.

There was only one promotion place left and its to be decided by the play offs. This season sees Barnet, Forest Green, Northwich Vics and Dag & Red battle it out. It was Forest Green and Barnet who managed to get through to the final and decide that last promotion place. It was a very close game indeed and it was an extra time that sealed it for Barnet.

Play Off Final : Forest Green 1 : 2 Barnet

So who wasnt good enough to even be in the conference this season, well it was former third division side Kidderminster who take the plunge and their followed by Aldershot and Morecambe who were just not good enough to stay up.

Golden Boot

Despite them missing out on promotion they certainly had the top scorers in the league and made it a double. With a massive total of 30 goals its Forest Green striker Dave Watson taking the Golden Boot, he's followed by team mate Wayne Andrews with 21 goals, he shares second place with Tobias Weis (Northwich) and John Nicholls (Exeter)

Assists

He scores the most goals and even makes it a double himself as he takes top spot with 16 assists for Forest Green, its of course Dave Watson once again. He's followed by Morecambe's Neil Saunders with 13 assists and then Neil Critchley (Dag&Red) with 11 assists.

Average Ratings

Without a doubt he had to make it a hattrick in the awards and he did it with ease, Dave Watson easily impressed with his goals and assists this season for Forest Green and it top man without a doubt. Exeter's John Nicholls and Watson's team mate Wayne Andrews also put in some very good performances.

Community Shield

Once again its the season's curtain raiser and the first piece of Silverware that is available.

Well its a jam packed stadium and its good to be back at the Wembley stadium, Its the usual suspects playing this one out, its Man Utd who take on Chelsea.

Full Time : Man Utdl 1 : 0 Chelsea

League Cup

No suprises this season in the League Cup as the Premiership's finest take both finalist spots. This season see's Tottenham take on the mighty Newcastle. It was a very close game that eventually was settled in extra time.

Full Time : Tottenham 0 : 2 Newcastle

FA Cup

They won the League Cup last season and they've continued their cup success by getting into the final of the FA Cup, its none other than Andrew Hepburn's Hull, he facing a tough opponent who is this seasons league cup runner up, its Tottenham Hotspur. A close encounter that was decided by a penalty just minutes from time.

Full Time : Hull 2 : 1 Tottenham

Vans Trophy

It was two of the second division sides who managed to progress from their regional finals to battle it out, this season we see Bristol Rovers face Chesterfield.

It was once again a very close final but it was Chesterfield who made the best of their chances and take the trophy home

Full Time : Bristol Rovers 0 : 1 Chesterfield

FA Trophy

They have just missed out on promotion to the football league and have the hottest strike force in the conference, of course its Forest Green and they take on Margate in the final.

The score line was is close but with a strike force that Forest Green have it was a suprise that there wasnt more goals in this one, still they got what they wanted and finish the season with some silverware at last.

Full Time : Forest Green 2 : 1 Margate

Champions League

The defending champions AC Milan have done it once more, they have beaten the best that europe had to offer and got themselves into the final to defend their crown. Its gonna be tough though as its an all italian affair and they face their old enemy Juventus.

It was a very close game that either side could have won in normal time, but just as extra time was going to end and penalties were looming, Athirson popped up for Juventus to beat the defending champions.

Full Time : Juventus 1 : 0 AC Milan

Uefa Cup

Once again we have an exciting Uefa Cup final and there is definately going to be an english team thats going to win as Andrew Hepburn guided his Hull side to the final with a bit of luck and he will face League Cup and Premiership Champions Newcastle.

Hull have not got the best record against Newcastle this season but they managed to get the upper hand in this encounter and take home their first european trophy and enjoy a cup double.

Full Time : Hull 1 : 0 Newcastle

Super Cup

So last seasons champions league winners face upto the uefa cup champions, that sets up what seems to be a thrilling game as its AC Milan against Barcelona.

Despite the hype surrounding the game, AC Milan showed their class and took the honour in showing Barcelona what the best of europe can do.

Full Time : Barcelona 0 : 2 AC Milan

Head to Head

There was to be plenty more head to head action between the managers this season, lets see how they got on.

Tigers Eat Toffee's In One

Andy's Hull side completely thrashed Everton in this encounter and he takes all 3 points away with him in and there wasnt a lot Mark's Everton could do about it.

Full Time : Everton 0 : 4 Hull City

Sticky Toffee's Eventually Swallowed By Tigers

It was a very close encounter between these two sides but it was Andy's side that eventually made their chance count and took three vital points and complete the double over Everton.

Full Time : Hull City 1 : 0 Everton

Tough Toffee's Too Hard For Hammers

It was goals galore in this encounter between Mark and Paul, with home advantage to Everton they capitalised on it and ran riot over the West Ham defence. Crucial three points gained here for Everton and it was part of a bad start for Paul's West Ham.

Full Time : Everton 4 : 1 West Ham

Hammers Revenge See's Toffee's Split Into Pieces

Revenge is sweet and Paul made sure his on form West Ham side got their revenge for a thrashing they had from Everton earlier in the season. They never really let Mark's side into the game and just demolished what was presented infront of them.

Full Time : West Ham 5 : 2 Everton

Tigers Tamed With Hammer Blow

Hull were riding high until Paul's West Ham gave the visitors something to think about, although they had a close first half, the Hammers completely thrashed them in the second half and Andy could only watch his Hull side try and keep the score line down.

Full Time : West Ham 5 : 0 Hull

Hammers Put Tigers In Their Place

They were last seasons runners up and showed the new boys what kind of quality it takes to compete with the best in the Premiership, Paul completed the double over Andy this season in a close encounter at the circle.

Full Time : Hull 1 : 2 West Ham

The Battle Of The City's

Its Daz and his multi millionaires against Wayne's Norwich which is jam packed with young talent. But the experienced players came through best and Daz led his team to victory and put Manchester ahead in the battle of the city's.

Full Time : Man City 3 : 1 Norwich

Flying Canaries Fail To Kill Off Citeh

With home advantage to Wayne this time, it looked like he was going to his revenge but despite being the dominate team in this encounter, his young strikers just couldnt put it into the back of the net and were denied several times by an outstanding City keeper.

Full Time : Norwich 0 : 0 Man City

Citeh Edge Out Stevenage In Close Encounter

It was a game off two halfs, Citeh enjoyed a lot of possession and took their chances well and looked very much in control, the second half saw Stevenage grab a goal back but they just couldnt do enough and continued their poor start to the season.

Full Time : Man City 2 : 1 Stevenage

Boring Stevenage, Boring Citeh

It promised to be an action packed sell out game, instead it turned out to be one of the most boring games to date in both managers careers. Defences did their job and stayed on top with good work from both teams.

Full Time : Stevenage 0 : 0 Man City

A Thrilling Encounter Ends In Dead Heat

Wayne's Norwich dominated the first half and were unlucky to score as their youthful strikers were having an off day. After a tactical change at half time it was Stevenage who dominated but with their poor start to the season, their strikers couldnt score despite going close a number of times.

Full Time : Norwich 0 : 0 Stevenage

Stevenage Come Back See's Canaries Shot Down

Well once again Norwich had very much dominated the first half but that small tactical change done in the first encounter was done once more, now with better squad than before it paid off as young winger Gilder got the equaliser followed with a 90th minute winner by the on-form Magno Silva Viera.

Full Time : Stevenage 2 : 1 Norwich

Hull_2.JPG?

Tiger Times - End Of Season Review

Well folks they came so close to causing a huge upset in the footballing world. Only four points seperated Hull and the Premiership title. Here is a rundown of the results in the run in.....

Blackburn v Hull - (A) - 0-2

After a great result against Boro the fans had high hopes for the trip to Blackburn. Well as usual they came away disappointed as hull produced a terrible performance that left Hepburn fuming. They let Blackburn dominate them and they paid the price. Blackburn deserved their win but Hepburn's troops knew they had let their manager down.

Hull v Chelsea - (H)- 1-0

After the disappoint of Ewood park it was the visit of the millionaires from Chelsea to The Circle. The Hull fans were a bit nervous for this game as the last time they had played Chelsea ripped then apart. But this is the new improved Hull and they fought and fought and then fought some more and produced a gutsy 1-0 victory. yes Chelsea had their chances but Roy Carroll was in superb form to keep them at bay. Paulinho scored the winner for Hull as they got their avoiding relegation back on track. icon_wink.gif

QPR v Hull - (A) - 2-0

The last time these two teams played they served us up a boring draw but in this game Hull were more than ready to play and fight for their manager. Hepburn wanted consistency, passion, flair and commitment and yet again the Hull players produced a great performance. They never let QPR settle for ten seconds and soundly earned the right to play some great football. Goals from Partridge and a rare Porhallson goal sealed a terrific win for Hull and kept up the pressure on Newcastle.

Hull v WBA - (H) - 3-1

The scoreline does not tell the whole story of this football match. In fact the scoreline flattered Hull a little as WBA had a few chances but yet again mr consistency to the rescue for Hull. Hull got off to the best possible start after only five minutes when Stuart Elliot put them ahead. He then scored again only for WBA to pull one back. Damien Delaney however settled any nerves by restoring Hull's two goal advantage and sealed the win for Hull.

Aston Villa v Hull - (A) - 0-1

Hull's hopes of relegation recieved a blow with this defeat at Aston Villa. It was lacklustre and disjointed as Villa played on the break and sat behind the ball making it hard for Hull to break them down. They eventually ran out of ideas Darius Vassell scored the winner for Villa.

Hull v Spurs - (H) - 0-1

A shock here as Hull lost for the first time this season at The Circle as Spurs put on a brilliant performance to shock the home fans. laos for the first time this season it looked like Hull were being affected by all this title talk. Of course Hepburn again stated his ambition was to avoid relegation to the awaiting press but secertly he was wanting this title. Spurs pressed and harried Hull all over the pitch and were really up for this game. Hull never really got into it at the same time.

Liverpool v Hull - (A) - 4-2

A fantastic game of football in a venue worthy of it. It was end to end stuff and Hull got off to a perfect start through a goal from Paulinho after fifteen minutes albeit against the run of play. Liverpool were in fine form and equalised only five minutes after conceding. Then on the stroke of half time they took the lead through Steven Gerrard. A quick change of tactics at half time and Hull came out flying and put Liverpool under severe pressure. Their equaliser duly came through Christopher Eagles who was having a superb game. They then took the lead through Stewart Downing and then Danny Allsopp sealed a superb win and kept them in the hunt for the title.

Hull v Southampton - (H) - 3-0

Hull were on a high after the great performance at Anfield. This showed as they took Southampton apart with wave after wave of attack, playing some amazing football. It did take forty three minutes for Hull to open the scoring but it was a great goal from Stuart Elliot that sent Hull on their way. Further goals from Branston and Porhallsson sealed an emphatic win for the Tigers.

Man Utd v Hull - (A) - 2-1

Hull were trying to defend a quite superb record against the Premiership champions of not being beaten once by them. This record stayed in tact with a performance full of grit and determination and Hull pulled yet another Old Trafford win out the bag. Utd took the lead through a brilliant free kick from Van Der Vaart. Hull came out all guns blazing in the second half and equalised through Freddy Guarin mid way through the second half. Hepburn willed his men forward after the equaliser as he believed they could snatch a winner and Stuart Elliot stepped up and grabbed that winner with a great strike.

Hull v Leicester - (H) - 2-0

Compared to recent games this was a stroll in the park for Hull as they enjoyed plenty of possession and chances to really rack up an impressive win. The outcome however was a frustrating first half as Hull could not hit the target it seemed. They finally opened the scoring on the hour mark with a goal from Richie Partridge and then a second goal came quickly via the penalty spot from Danny Allsopp to give them the win.

Millwall v Hull - (A) - 1-1

Hull's championship aspirations were dealt a major blow with this draw at Millwall. Hull were all over Millwall but an impressive performance from goalkeeper Rhys Evans kept Hull out. In fact Millwall took an early lead to pile more pressure onto hull. They responded well but could only break Evans once through Richie Partridge. they pressed and pressed but to no avail as they could only manage a draw.

Hull v West Ham - (H) - 1-2

Yet another blow to the title hopes of Hull as they lost to Rouchie's impressive West Ham side. Just like at Upton Park the controlled most of the game a gave Hull only a couple of chances. Hull took one of those chances but then West Ham went up the pitch and scored again. The hush round The Circle was unbearable as the fans who were dreaming of titles were reduced almost to tears by this result. Hepburn remained upbeat and reiterated his team were simply trying avoid relegation.

Hull v Fulham - (H) - 0-0

Well it came down to the final day of the season with four teams still in with a chance of winning the title. The tension was unbearable at The Circle and this seemed to affect the players as The Circle is usually a noisy stadium but it was surprisingly quiet. At the end of the day it wasn't to be Hull's day as Newcastle won their game at Anfield and won the title. It was a great title race with four teams in with a chance but experience told in the end but still a valiant effort from Hull. What a Premiership!!!!!!

The FA Cup

After the non event in round three it was onto round four and a trip to Woking. It was yet another akward and tricky tie as Woking gave Hull a real game although they did have their keeper to thank as he kept Hull out most of the game. Goals from Danny Allsopp and rare goal from Gundmundsson gave Hull the win. Hepburn chose to rest a couple of players but it was a valiant effort from Woking.

Onto round five that saw Hull come up against Colchester their old rivals from division two. It was the same outcome as in previous meetings between the two as Hull easily won 3-1 going on six or seven. Another valiant effort from lower league opposition but not good enough to really trouble Hull. Goals from Damien Delaney, Danny Allsopp and an own goal from Peggy Arphexad gave Hull an easy win.

In roud six it was time to visit the south coast and a game with Southampton beckoned. What a cup tie this was. Hull had the better of the match but Southampton would not lie down and go away. Elliot gave Hull the lead after only seven minutes but Southmapton then equalised. Hull retook the lead through Danny Allsopp only for Southampton to level the score again and take the tie to a replay. In that replay it was a formality as Hull started where they finished off and really took the game to Southampton. Goals from Freddy Guarin, Stuart Elliot and Stewart Downing sealed Hull a place in the next round.

In the semis they were drawn against title rivals Newcastle at Wembley. It was a tightly contested game with Newcastle dominating throughout but Hull managed to take the lead through Stuart Elliot and they managed to hold onto the lead to seee them into yet another final.

The FA Cup Final

In the final Hull met Spurs who had beaten them at The Circle only a few weeks ago. It was a tense affair as some cup finals are. Hull had taken the lead through Danny Allsopp but Postiga equalised quickly for Spurs but a Danny Allsopp penalty seven minutes from time to win the cup for Hull. icon_cool.gif

The UEFA Cup

In round three Hull found themselves up against Udinese with the first leg in Italy. Hull produced an absolutely stunning display as Hepburn went adventurous and it paid off big time. They dominated the game and they came away with a 1-0 win but it could have been many more but for some fine goalkeeping. The winner for Hull came from Stewart Downing and what a great solo effort it was. In the return leg it was a formality as Hull yet again played Udinese off the pitch with an awesome performance and they ran out 4-0 winners. A hat trick from Danny Allsopp was the highlight of the game and Paulinho grabbed the other goal for Hull.

It was into the hat for round 4 then and Hull were looking for another winnable tie. That is exactly what they got as they were drawn against Anderlecht with the first leg in Belguim. Hepburn went for the same adventurous approach as he did in Italy and it took Anderlecht completely by surprise. they were so stunned that Hull went ahead after only six minutes through Partridge. this set the tone and for most of the match Anderlecht were on the back foot unable to control Partridge and Downing on the Hull wings. It was Partridge who put Hull two up with a great strike after twenty three minutes. it was sensational stuff. In the second half NAderlecht came out fighting and put Hull under a little pressure and pulled a goal back but then two minutes from time Danny Allsopp who else popped up with a goal two give Hull an excellent win. In the return leg it was another formality and Hull did not over exert themselves and won comfortably 1-0 in the end. Damien Delaney got the winner for Hull.

Into the last eight and Hull were drawn against Hepburn's boyhood heroes Celtic. After the draw Hepburn was not best pleased as he was hoping to avoid them. Anyway onto the tie and the first leg was at The Circle. Hepburn's approach was the same in the previous two ties and that was to get the tie over with in the first game. Hull came out and dominated Celtic much to the pleasure of Hepburn who was loving the performance from his players. Three goals in six minutes put paid to any hopes of Celtic winning this tie. Elliot opened the scoring followed by Freddy Guarin and then Partridge scored to make it 3-0 by half time. Hull only added one more to their tally as changes were made. The goal in the second half came from Porhallsson another rare goal and appearance from the big Icelandic striker. The return leg saw Hepburn make numerous changes to his team to keep his first team lads fresh. They were beaten 2-0 but Hepburn recieved a great reception from the Celtic fans as they know their club is still in Hepburn's heart.

So onto the semis and they could not have asked for a harder draw. They were drawn against the mighty Real Madrid. The first leg was in Madrid and Hull's players were understandbly nervous as the stadium is huge and they were playing one of the best teams in the world a la Ronaldo as well. This showed during the first half as they let Madrid dominate them and they paid the price after only two minutes when Adriano put Madrid ahead. At times hull were lucky but they went in 1-0 down at half time. The second half was a different story as Hull were a different team. They came out and showed they could mix it with the best as Danny Allsopp equalised for Hull to the amazement of the crowd inside the Bernabau stadium. Both teams had chances to win the game but it was a brilliant result for Hull in their first ever European semi final. The return leg was just one of the best night's in Hull's history. A jam packed Circle saw the minnows put one over on the giants of the footballing world. It was a result that sent shockwaves around the world. Yes little known Hull managed the impossible in beating Real Madrid and not just 1-0 but 2-0. Stuart Elliot opened the scoring for Hull and then Porhallsson scored his most important goal in his career by sealing a famous 2-0 win for Hull.

The UEFA Cup Final

Hull v Newcastle - (N) - 1-0

It was unbelievable to most but litle known Hull City had made it to the UEFA Cup final and who did they face? Yes newly crowned Premiership champions Newcastle. It was a daunting task as Newcastle were high and Hull were low after their final day misery. Newcastle dominated proceedings again but they just do not seem able to score against Hull at the moment when these teams meet. Whereas Hull seem to score the odd chance they do have against Newcastle and it was the same here on the biggest stage of them all. Stuart Elliot was the hero for Hull as he scored the winner that brought Hull their first ever European trophy and who knows it might not be their last.

Well what a season and if next season is half as good as this then it should be amazing. It was a brilliant season and the whole club should be very proud of Hepburn and his squad of dedicated players.

stevenage.JPG?Planet Stevenage : Mission - Premiership Safety

Welcome back once again fans of Stevenage, fans of the Boro! Finally the dream was accomplished and we are going to be playing Premiership football! The hard work has paid off and we can finally live the dream that we thought was impossible four seasons ago.

But we gotta stop dreaming fast and get down to business, the squad needs to be a lot stronger if we are to survive in the Premiership this season so a pre-season full of travel for potential targets is ahead.

Well my trip took me all over Europe to try and find some of the key ingredients we need to secure premiership status and something that will not break the bank too as we need to save a bit incase the worst does happen.

Well, here's who we signed on our travels :

Malcom Chrstie - M'Boro - Free : Christian is a very pacey forward who has found the net on a number of occassions for Boro, his experience will be vital and its a surpise to get a good striker for nothing.

Lloyd Dyer - W.B.A - Free : He hasnt seen much action with West Brom but he's screaming out for some first team action, a pacey left sided winger who will provide plenty of quality crosses.

Marco Ferreira - Porto - Free : He played regular footie for Porto, playing some cracking football, probably the best of his career, he's reached his prime and Porto dont renew his contract, well thank you for such a top class player!

Christian Tiffert - Stuttgart : Free : Absolute bargain, he has lightening quick pace and should see off a lot of defenders, a good season should also see him get a call up for his country

Franck Queudrue - M'Boro : Free : Seems like Boro dont want to hold onto their quality, Franck wanted to leave and me wanting a premiership experienced left back he made the requirements with ease.

Mikele Leigertwood - W'don : 1.2mill : Should be worth every penny, a class act and should keep out some of the best strikers the prem has to offer, a much needed addition.

Josip Kovacic - 350k - Cruzeiro : An experienced centre back who will provide additional cover, he has bags of pace and should see a lot of first team action too.

Paul Robinson = 500k - Leeds : Urgently needed a top class keeper at the lowest possible price, thank god Leeds are in debt, a bargain for that money, should hold out a lot of shots.

David Miranda - Espanyol : Free : With two young keepers at the club and having got Robinson in, I need a top quality keeper to back up incase we get injuries in such a vital department.

Seba Abreu - A Madrid - Free : Shocked when he agreed to play for us and thrilled that such a class act is coming in. International experience too and just seems to score goals all the time.

So the new lads were in, Abreu's signing was very much approved by the fans too. We managed to get in what I feel we required to survive this season in the premiership. We spent our 2million very wisely while other teams were spending 12,15 or even 18 million on just one player alone.

Nevins, Gilder and Eckersley have all signed extensions to their contracts too and secures their future long term to the club, in addition, Gibson is still getting a lot of interest too from top clubs but he aint going anywhere.

So with the new players coming in throughout Pre-season we had to get some games under our belt. So here's who we played :

Home : Stevenage vs Abington Town - 5-0

Scorers : Sims(2), Tiffert, Juliusson, O'Donoughue.

Away : Dag & Red vs Stevenage - 0-4

Scorers : Qued, Christie, Viera, Marco Ferreira

Away : Grimsby vs Stevenage - 0-1

Scorers : Wilson

Away : Southend vs Stevenage - 0-3

Scorers : Christie, Poole, Viera

So far a very good Pre-season with just one more friendly left to go, the new boys certainly looked to have settled in very quickly and adapted to our style of play. Only time will tell if they do it when it matters in the Premiership.

All looks settled now at Stevenage but the Pre-Season did bring up its rumours and job offers. Both Liverpool and Everton offered me the job within hours of sacking their managers, of course with both jobs I turned them down as soon as they were offered despite how tempting they were.

So the Road to Survival start now, the first tie is infront of the home fans where we will face Middlesborough, a good start is definately needed here!

The Champions League Welcomes the Hammers 06-07

The End Of Season Run In

A disappointing 3-2 defeat at home to Chelski saw the Hammers title hopes badly dented, then we played Hull away and secured another win to ensure the double over Andy H’s Tigers and reignite the title hope for the last game of the season against QPR. Tottenham, Hull, Newcastle and West Ham could all potentially win the title on the last day. At one stage as West Ham led against QPR and Newcastle were losing West Ham were top of the table, unfortunately the team crumbled and lost 4-3 and Newcastle recovered to win the league, West Ham finished 4th icon_eek.gif

Transfers Out

A number of underforming youth players were released and Fredrik retired, Dailly was released and Kristiansen joined Villa on a Bosman, Caldwell went to Southampton for 250k while Defoe was let go to Chelsea for 12.5 mill which boosted the 14 mill transfer kitty handed to Paul Rouch nicely icon_biggrin.gif

Transfers In

In came Montolvan, Biscan, Ruben and Arteta on free transfers and Bonfim was brought in for 2.1 mill as one for the future. Diego was a main target and a 14 mill bid was accepted but the work permit was rejected, Hammers have rebid as they feel that Diego is of the right quality for the premiership. More news to follow on signings icon14.gif

Early season games

West Ham are scheduled to play premiership newcomers Stevenage and Man City in their 3rd and 4th games, the Champions League Qualifying opposition is Austria Vienna which the Hammers should be confident of defeating to enable another shot at the Champions League. icon_biggrin.gificon_cool.gif

Andy - one bad result in 20-odd seasons is nothing to be ashamed of anyway icon_biggrin.gif

I still maintain that the 8th goal in the 2-9 defeat was offside... :p

It's just as well that I was an overwhelming success for the rest of my time in EFB1... icon_wink.gif

Anyway, good luck with this, it's been an interesting read so far. Disappointing to see that Krapovnik's bailed out though icon_frown.gif

Well there has been a lot of in's and out's at the City of Manchester during the pre season.

Coming in we have had the likes of the talented midfielder Kim Kallstrom who spent most of the previous season on loan to fellow premiership battlers West Ham. Then theres the highly rated Todorov. A young bulgarian Striker who was very sort after due to the fact he was availible on a free. It was an all out battle between Hull and City for his signature and a suprise when he chose us over Hull.

Players out include Defender Richard Dunne released on a free transfer and the out of favor Paul Frier who joined The Gunners for 4.9million

Man City 5 - 0 Sheff Wed

In a game we're traffic was all one way city ran out easy winners with fine displays from both Todrov and Captain Marvel himself Basturk. Plenty of chances for City who ran out easy winners.

Hull 5 v 2 Man City

A game that in my opinion dosent reflect how even the game was on the day. Special praise has to be brought up for Hull's goal keeper Roy Carroll, who was City's thorn in there side all evening, saving shot after shot. Mind you a couple DID go in. A late goal from Sub Luke Young and a goal from Todorov, inevetable that he was scoring past the team that tried so hard to sign him during the summer. A good result for Andy and a big welcome to the Premiership for City

stevenage.JPG?Planet Stevenage : The Race To 40 Points Begins!

So it finally begins, after another friendly win, this time over Brackley (5-0), I feel the side has done enough in the pre-season friendlies and start focusing on survival in the Premiership. Its normally 40 points which is good enough to assure you Premiership status for another season, the sooner we can meet that target the less pressure there will be on us and we will finally be able to relax and take things more in our strides, we'll take each game as it comes and gonna have six tough encounters against human opposition.

Early on, which might be a blessing, we face all three teams, Hull and West Ham in our 3rd and 4th game and then Man City not long after that. If we can get off to a winning start at home then hopefully that will guide the team to getting something in the new few games ahead.

So thats off-pitch talk over with, lets see what the players have to say on the pitch......

Stevenage vs Middlesborough

We invited fellow manager Paul Rouch to Broadhall Way, with his game against Arsenal on Sky and not on the Saturday he was happy to join and watch the new boys play. We almost see a goal too after just seconds off the kick off, boro looking very edgy. Well our dominace continued through the whole match and chance after chance went screaming past the Boro woodwork, it was a miracle how the ball didnt go in, was like a brick wall!. Finally, Huckerby broke through the Boro defence, he driblled straight through 3 defenders and then the shot rebounded of the keeper and in. This unfortunately was the only goal in a game that should of seen five, dominated completely with my players missing one on ones, sitters, you name it, they missed it. Thankfully though, the end came and it settled the nerves, a victory brings the perfect start.

Full Time : 1-0 Huckerby

Sheff Wed vs Stevenage

Its the fellow promoted side and we were looking for some points here to continue our good first game, despite Kuqi's deep sea diving he didnt get his pearls and we kept all 11 on the pitch despite wanting to break both his legs. We once more continued a dominant performances and Sheff Wed never looked in it for one minute. However, like last game and last season, we cant score, for some odd the easiest chances in the world that even my gran could put in dont go into the back of the net. Finally though after x amount of chances, the captain and season campaigner for Stevenage scores a 40 yard screamer to collect the three points and continue our 100% record.

Full TIme : 0-1 Juliusson

Well we have got off to the start I really wanted, 2 wins out of two before we face the real big tough teams of Andy and Paul. Despite not hammering the goals in like some of the top teams are i'm very happy that we have scored and most of all, we have not conceded against any of them which is a great achievement. Can the smallest club in the prem survive? Well if we can continue to score more and stay solid at the back, cant see no reason why a mid-table position is not out of our reach icon_smile.gif

More Transfers in

Experienced striker Kristjansson was bought from Everton to bolster the front line options for 3million and Mario Melchiot from Arsenal for a bargain 2.4 million, which pleased the finance director no end as the fans went mad on the big name signing and shirt sales went through the roof! Diego still was not able to get a work permit icon_confused.gif so that signing had to be abandoned in the short term.

Wed, 15.8.2007 - 19:45 - (H) Austria Vienna - Champions Cup Qual.3 Leg 1

The hammers kicked off their champions league qualification with a resounding home win which all but renders the return leg an unnecessary inconvenience! Simonetta struck after just 9 minutes, then new signing Arteta added to make a comfortable 2-0 lead for half team. The second half saw the hammers shift up a gear as Robinho netted before Arteta grabbed another two goals to seal his hatrick. Oskarsson scored on 90 to complete the rout. icon14.gif

The West Ham Manager decided to go on a scouting mission, as West Ham were scheduled to play on Sunday on Sky so he went to see soon to be opponents and premiership new boys Stevenage take on Middlesborough in the battle of the 'boros!and Saw Stevenage give a very good account of themselves as they sealed a 1-0 win. Paul Rouch met up with The Stevenage manager after the match and offerd his congratulations on his first premiership points!

Sun, 19.8.2007 - 16:00 (A) Arsenal - Premier Division

The first premiership game of the season, a successful preseason behind us, Champions league football all but guaranteed, confidence was high as the hammers travelled to Ashburton Grove, as usual, our confidence was misplaced as the team turned in an absolute stinker of a performance, Pingu opened the scoring for Arsenal and Henry added within a couple of minutes! Bowyer then proceeded to miss a penalty to add to the frustration! icon_mad.gif The second half saw Paul Rouch try to change things around as he used all his subs, only to see Huth pull up injured and unable to continue immediately after! Arsenal sealed a miserable afternoon for the travelling hammers fans when Dunn made it 3-0 to the gunners minutes from fulltime. icon13.gif

After a disappointing season opener against the Gooners, Paul Rouch needed to pick his team up and get them refocused. Fortunately Robinho was on fire and definitely up for it! He opened the scoring on 6 and added another by 12 minutes past 3! New signing Leandro Bonfim added to the brace in the second half, and Lee Bowyer made up for a missed penalty (again icon_mad.gif ) by netting the rebounded save.icon_biggrin.gif

Wed, 29.8.2007 - 19:45(A) Austria Vienna - Champions Cup Qual.3 Leg 2

Wes Ham travelled to Vienna for the second leg of this Champions League qualifier secure in the knowledge that it would take a major act of incompetence for them to fail to progress! Robinho made the home sides momentous task even harder by grabbing an away goal in the twelfth minute which was the only goal action of the first half.Simonetta killed the game off in the second half to make it 2-0 which meant a comeback of Lazurus proportions was required, Which didn’t happen, Simonetta converted a penalty in the 89th minute and Etherington added a 4th in the dying seconds to ensure the Hammers qualified for the Champions league icon_biggrin.gificon_cool.gif

Result – West Ham 4 Austria Vienna 0
