I must be tactically inept - I've only won 3 of my first 7 league games in Season 1...much harder than I thought it would be, hats off to those crushing it!

I think it all depends on your approach. I've decided against making any transfers due to having a personal investment in the team in real life and knowing who the players are, I started out slow but once they got the hang of tactics we started flying!

Currently top with 9 games to go in season 1.

I've gone with signing players, but the lack of wingers anywhere means I'm having to play a narrow formation and I'm getting done down the flanks by literally everyone :/

Wow, losing my laptop to my wife wanting to play House Flipper 2 has really put me back a few seasons. Grats to those who have somehow managed to wrap up season 3!  I best get the laptop set up next to the work laptop today!

Season not over yet (1 game to go) but league and cup are mine.  Looking forward to refining the squad over the summer in preparation for the higher division.

Start of season number 3 coming up - had a lot of transfer activity and really wanted to spend as little on wages as possible so the squad currently looks like this...

Screenshot2024-01-29at19_00_24.thumb.png.a3be08169312d07dff065db201b37aec.png

As you can see a LOT of loan signings and a lot of players that my assistant doesn't seem to rate, but I'm quite happy as I've kept my Goalkeeper, Left Back, a Centreback, CDM and my two attacking mids and striker from last season and I've faith in them if they stay fit. As a result, finances and salary looking good...

Screenshot2024-01-29at19_00_30.thumb.png.13ac3ea99d3b8336536d04c5ccd8eab4.pngScreenshot2024-01-29at19_00_50.thumb.png.c5141a87c3bcac56c6c674f9ee5b33df.png

As for aims for the season, I was originally targetting a playoff finish and the media seem to have more faith than I do... excited to start the season now! Let's see what I can do with a number of players still on amateur contracts and pay as they play contracts!

Great update!  Would love to see more like this on here!

We haven't taken into account anybody starting this save using FM23 from the Crewe & District league when it comes to the points.

I'll award you 5 points for the league & 5 points for the cup.  I'll ensure this is consistent with anybody else starting from the C&D league.

Good afternoon all,

Some incredible progress being made again on here!  There are obviously some players who are not keeping us updated on here, however I can confirm that nobody has completed the challenge yet.

Here is how the leader board currently looks:

Leaderboard4.png.07fc61f98fe6fe749e9985b9f63379e8.png

Points to note:

Thyra7 - This member has opted to start the challenge using FM23.  AFC Crewe are in the Crewe & District league in FM23 and we haven't included them in the points system.  We will give 5 points for a C&D league win.

I'm going to get myself onto this leader board by the end of tomorrow!

Hello and welcome from Germany!

As an expatriate, I am now also starting my career with the glorious AFC Crewe.

Here's to seeing some very successful football in Crewe and celebrating our first promotion to the Staffordshire Premier Division together.

Season 3

Well, we went out of the vase first round which did not go down well, thankfully our league performance kept us in the job and we got the league cup for the double.

It's interesting looking at other managers, I think I've built a team better than needed for these early seasons, just got promoted and the board expect me to win league and both cups, salary budget at £1600 which seems higher than others at this stage, possibly because I'm using most of my budget each season but we are nearly 50k in debt.

I am in season 3 but I will be taking my time this time. Mostly due to blitzing season 2 as it was just so easy that I ended up spending near 14 hours on the laptop. Turns out that is a fantastic way to cause a migraine.

Also within 3 games in the new division I got turned over by a team who are now sitting pretty at the top of the league and appear to be unbeaten away in nearly a season. Got to knuckle this one down a bit and enjoy it.  Currently only getting job interview offers from surrounding clubs really and using all my scouting budget has done a number on the finances. I am within wage budget but I really need to turn that ship around somehow.  Every season the preview puts me as relegation fodder, so even though I may have the best coaches, scouts and physios in the league, the first goal is as always to steer of relegation and then anything after that is just a bonus. I won't be able to compete with most of you guys, as this is the first time I have ever had a save below National League South, when I tried the old Chester City challenge a few years ago.   It's interesting for sure!

Off to chase down top spot!

AFC Crewe

2023/2024 Season Review

Champions:

Screenshot2024-01-31182215.thumb.png.2694e0ab8d55e2ac73885481c43053b8.png

Leek Town Reserves pushed us all of the way this season, however about 7 games before the end, they started to draw a few games which really opened the gap up.  My AFC Crewe scored 95 goals throughout the course of the season and I'm a little gutted that we didn't make the 100.  With that being said, considering we made 0 transfers, to have scored the most goals and conceded the least whilst winning the league comfortably is a successful season in my eyes.

Transfers:

Screenshot2024-01-31182910.thumb.png.a099bd2319e8cd637cbf470da6e525d9.png

We lost Caine Mellor near the back end of the season.  This was a huge blow for us because he was on for player of the season.  Shame on him more than anything because shortly after this we turned Semi-Pro and started paying players.  I hope it was worth it Caine - Enjoy your amateur club!  I'm still undecided whether or not to turn this into a youth save as well moving forward - What are your thoughts?

Youth Intake:

Screenshot2024-01-30183614.png.06070545764c56b68eb73f44199717e5.png

Screenshot2024-01-30183652.thumb.png.77692834dba40025b5eb869239b760d2.png

Screenshot2024-01-30183723.thumb.png.bc3811400005dee480d32ac8539d5abd.png

I'm really pleased with this youth intake.  Some really strong defenders coming through, including the beast posted above.  There's quite a handy GK that has also come through.  If I decide to go with youth only, I'll look to integrate these players into pre-season.

Summary:

This has been a really positive first season.  The board have agreed to improve youth recruitment, turn us semi-pro, send me away for my National C qualifications & increase our junior coaching budget.  Overall we made a loss of £2224.00 over the course of the season and only lost one player.  We lost a few members of staff here and there, however we have replaced and improved our staff members whenever this has happened.  We won the league convincingly in the end and had a fairly decent youth intake.

I've definitely adopted the more difficult route to start this challenge by opting to not make transfers - Who wants to see how far we can go using youth only?
