Player Progress Report:

Recommended Posts

I keep getting progress reports that players are unhappy with specialized training sessions and they feel not to be progressing. However, oftentimes they are progressing across various attributes, including the ones assigned. (See the example below).

How seriously should I take these reports?... Any tips are appreciated. Thanks in advance.

It's pretty common, nothing to worry about and perhaps a little overtuned - the player in question notices the relevant attribute(s) has increased, doesn't think it'll improve any more and is letting you know.

Use the emails as a flag for you to have a quick check on the player's progress.  If you are happy then just carry on and ignore him.  If you think he's progressed sufficiently then change his training.  On the other hand if his morale is being seriously affected then that could be reason enough to change his training, but again only if you think his progress has been affected and/or his form in matches has dropped.

When I control my youth players’ training I tend to concentrate on developing their physicals but  generally don’t have any strong feelings about the specialised training undertaken by my first team. When I initially set up my first team training I put everybody concentrating on their stamina and when they start complaining about their individual training I change them to something else with which they are happy. Later on they’ll once again tell me that the individual trading is no longer suitable and I’ll change it once again. Unless I really want to develop a particular attribute I’d prefer to have a happy player than one who is dissatisfied with his training.

There will be peaks and troughs in any players development. The goal is to make sure there is no extended period where the arrows are down. That is usually not a good sign and can be the result of overplaying him and whether they are the sort who want to train hard. Usually experienced FM players also consider personality and determination in the equation.

Sometimes a player can be rotated significantly and you take pains to develop them however they consistently perform poorly in training. You look at training ratings AND their attribute development over time. With these players you can give them a warning letting them know they haven't shown significant improvements over time. They may get a small spurt in training ratings afterwards, but keep track of them. Use the notebook feature and notate when you cited them with a warning. If the same thing happens again, then it may be worth taking a look at other factors.

- Are they playing in the right position?
- Are they performing poorly in games?
- Do they need a mentor? Are they worth mentoring?
- Are they playing at the right level? Sometimes a player could be good enough to play for a senior team but he is still stuck in the youth ranks? Loan him out if you cant play him.

Usually players with good personalities do well in training if you are consistent  with rotation and tactics. Finally, sometimes you could be playing a system that doesnt use wingers. Then you find a great winger in the youth ranks and decide to train him as a winger. That could be an issue since your youth team uses the same tactic as the main team.

not wholly on topic but sort of related to progress, i have my coaches sending me reports that some players have progressed when for a a period of time and the graph shows a shar upturn but when i look at their attributes i can hardly see any green arrows. some yellow arrows and slight up tick in some attributes but cant see anything that has gone even up by one. so why do they coaches keep telling the player has improved?
