Warg92 Posted November 21, 2019 Share Posted November 21, 2019 (edited) Hello everyone! Some of you might remember me, or maybe you remember the save I had on the 2018 version of FM. I took charge of a tiny team from Malta called Ta' Xbiex SC, and tried to get them to the top of the world. (Spoiler: I failed). I think the last try was quite succesfull, and I hope I can at least do as well as I did then. After one year away from FM, I'm back at it again with this save. And again it's Ta' Xbiex SC that's the team, as I really liked them the last time I tried this! I'm adding one thing to this save I did not have the last time, and that is that I'm allowing myself to sign one, just ONE, player each season. The signing has to be 21 years old or younger, but does not have to be from Malta. Enough of that, on to the facilities, the manager and the players! We are still sharing our home-ground with St. Andrews FC. I'm sorry, but I have a love for the more unusual nationalities! But as you can see, absolutely everything can be improved! Squad Our best CB is on loan at a team in the top league. I will try to recall him. Key Players Our best player in terms of CA plays in a position that I don't really plan on using, so I have to retrain him. On loan from Melita, and will be leaving us after the season. This guy was one of my key players at the start of the last save, and he is still with Ta' Xbiex! Youth Team As per usual, this is what this look like at the start of the save. Our best prospect at the moment. One thing that seems to be new this year is that the fourth tier in Malta now has two groups. The winners go straight up, but the second placed teams has to battle it out between them! We're considered to be the 24th worst team at the moment. I hope we can change that! And that's it for now! Warg92 Posted November 21, 2019 Author Share Posted November 21, 2019 Pre Season 2019/2020 Not a very good pre season in terms of results. The only win was against our U21 team. Hey, at least 10 people wants to see us play. As I said in the OP, I can sign one player each year, but they have to be 21 years old or younger. I really needed a keeper, as the best keeper we had was a 17 year old Latvian that was not good enough. Here's our new GK. He is one out of six keepers available to me under the age of 22, and I'm really happy with this signing! We also had our first official game, against Zebbug Rovers in the Cup. Warg92 Posted November 21, 2019 Author Share Posted November 21, 2019 (edited) Mid Season 2019/2020 We're doing way better than I expected, and at the halfway point of the season we're sitting 3rd. Only one point behind the second place. First place is out of reach already. We got to the second round of the cup, and I'm happy with that. We got knocked out by a team that got relegated from the top tier last season. Player of the season so far has to be Donovan Micallef. From the CM position he has 7 goals and 1 assist in the league. As per usual there will be a lot of 5* PA players in the first intake. A few days before this date I realised we had no HoYD... My mistake... I was right though, every single player has 5* PA. If we could keep a clean sheet sometimes we would have been higher on this table at the end of the season. Only two clean sheets over the course of the whole season is just bad. On the other side of the field we're doing okay. Best Eleven Take a look at the ratings for the defenders here and you can see why we struggled with keeping the goals out... We lost a few players after the season, so I'm guessing that's the reason. I said after last season that we had to do better in defense. If this is something to go by, we will struggle! Key Players And the last key player is also my signing of this season. I wanted a new CB, but everyone availabe was just as bad as the ones I have. So what's the second best option after a CB? Yes, a striker! I like the look of him. I hope the speed and finishing can be a good weapon at this level. YP to look for. Our best LB is also our best CB, and we need him in that position, so this season Manea will most likely play in a lot of games at the LB position. We don't concede as many goals as we did last year, and that is the main reason we're this high. Hopefully we can keep this up. I just lost my best CM to injury however, and that is a position that I struggle with at the moment. Best player so far has to be our new striker Josepg Zammit. He is very important for us up top! I would have liked him to be a CM, but this will have to do! I never really notice the player traits, but "Dwells On Ball" should fit into the way we play. We actually won promotion on the second try! We scored scored 50 goals this season, the same amount as last year, but we conceded 12 goals less. I do not understand how the play offs work to be honest. We played against a team from the league above us, and had to beat them to get promoted, and we did that, but how does the game against Mtarfa come in? They did not play a game against a team from the league above, but still faced us in the play-off. If they beat us, would they have gone up? Because after we beat Xghajra Tornadoes FC, I got a message that we were promoted... One other thing to notice, the team that won Group B finished rock bottom last season! As I predicted before the season, Alexandru Manea (YP01a) got a lot of games, even though he did not play that well... He had 52% pass accuracy over the course of the season! My player of the season is Karl Buckler, as he scored the most important goals! Best XI 20/21 Best Overall XI The next year will be battle for survival I think! Well, we did not lose a game, but we should have beaten most of these teams. Key Players And another key player is my signing of the season, Kyriakos Chatziaros. I had a lot of players I tried to sign this season, but everyone wanted 10 times more than I could afford, so I ended up with this guy. He was not my first choice, but he's still our best player! But, to be honest, we have very lucky in at least three games, and should maybe have lost a couple of them. But I don't care, as we are at the top of the table! Joseph Zammit, one of the players I highlighted as a key player got injured a couple of days before the first game, and I decided to go for Matthew Spitteri up top, and he made it hard for me to leave him out of the starting XI after that game. I remembered that it was two league systems in Malta from my first save! I have noticed that as well. In the last 4-5 Football Manager games there was no way to sign players from other countries on part-time deals. But this year some players want to sign. Too bad he is a DM, a position that I don't use. Same for the second best, he is a AMR. But both of them will be given new positions! Other than that, it seems like there's an overall rise in quality this year. He's already pretty good in the CM position. But he'll get even better! We had a very bad second half of the season, and lost the first place, but we manged to finish second at least. After not losing a single game in the first half of the season we ended up just winning 5 out of 12 of the remaining games! But we were not the only team that had a good season, as the team that joined us in the promotion last year join us this year as well! At least the board want me to develop youth players! Even though the odds could have been better! Six good games and one bad. The Tarxien game I count as a good one, as they were relegated from the top tier last season. Squad Key players He has yet to play a game for us, but he is by far our best player. Last years signing. Hopefully he'll do even better this season! Our best youth player two years ago. Important in central midfield. Another year, another key signing. This time I got what I wanted, a central defender. This guy has been without a club since last year. I tried to sign him last year as well, but he wanted more than I could offer. I guess one year on the sidelines gave him something to think about. I simulated a game to 2089 before I started to play to see if there were any bugs or anything like that. And you're right, I have to catch up quickly! This was with a small database and only Malta loaded, so that may have made a difference. Still, they won the Premier League every single year from 2021/2022 Season! We have outscored everyone, and that is the main reason we're at this spot. Warg92 Posted November 24, 2019 Author Share Posted November 24, 2019 End of the 2022/2023 Season Well, that was easier than I thought it would be. We're promoted as champions, and will play our next season in the Premier League! It was very close finish, and it was down to the last game of the season to see who would gain promotion! We had to beat Vittoriosa Stars FC (a team we crushed 7-1 earlier in the season), and Naxxar Lions and Gharghur FC had to draw. And guess what happened? Exactly how I needed it to go! So, next year we're going up against the big boys! One thing to notice, is that Gharghur FC, a team that has joined us in the two last promotions nearly did it yet again! Even Zabbar, that got promoted last season was with us all the way in. And could even have won the league, but they lost 7 out of their last 9 games. Another thing, we had 48 points at the end of the season. That would place us around 4-5 any other year. We also had our best Cup run so far in the save, and even had our best game so far with 4-0 trashing of Hibernians! This is also the reason our finances are looking good at the moment. Fans PoTS My PoTS Two-three really bad games drags the Avg rating down for this guy. He has been a very important part of the success in his first season at the club. Squad Key Players I think my two central midfielders were the main reason we achieved promotion last year, as they were brilliant! I decided to try to find a new player in the defence, and I found an LB that I immediately tried to sign. He is also the first player I've signed from another club. A good place to be at the moment, and we're closer to the top than the bottom! We started the season brilliantly, with four big wins in five first games. After than we had a bit of a bad run, but overall I'm happy. We also got knocked out of the cup early. By a team in the league we below us... PoTS so far has to be Josepg Zammit. The second signing I made at the club has been with us from fourth tier, but this is the year he has been the best so far! Both fullbacks and centerbacks. Just the thing I need! The best player we get this is a centerback, and he will probably go straight in to the starting eleven once we get a chance to register him. Top three according to CA He is very very slow... Hopefully he can grow a bit there. Once this guy gets used to the left mildfielder position, he will probably be our number one on that side. He does not look like anything special to me. We finished as number seven, but we were closer to the bottom than the top. A really horrible December month made us end the season with a negative goal difference, and that is the main focus before the next season. The two first games this year were also the best ones, and we should have beaten Valletta. We got 104K for the 7th place. And that really helps with the finances! PoTS The fans voted Karl Buckler as player of the season, and this year I have to agree. Joseph Zammit started the season great, but was really bad the second half. Will we suffer from the famous "second season syndrome", where everything goes badly, or will we maybe push for a place in European football? Most likely the first option according to the bookmakers. The team that's predicted to place just above has done almost the same journey. They have been promoted three times in the last five seasons! This har turned out to be normal pre season. six wins, one draw and one lost. Squad Key Players He had a decent first season, but I feel he can do better. Sean Grech has grown into a very good player for us. Same with this guy, and in the middle they form a good partnership. So, my signing of the season. I thought it was time to get a new GK. And that is just what I did. But I made a mistake, as he had not turned 18 yet, and Kazakh players can't leave their country until they are 18. He turns 18 one month, and joins us, after the registration window has closed, and therefore he can't play before the second half of the season. And that is too bad, cause he look really good. We're scoring less goals, but we're also conceding less. We got knocked out of the cup by Floriana. Best Avg rating so far Kyriakos has been very good the RB position! This does not look good. Every single player in the Media Dream XI plays for them. A lot of good pre season games! Only two "hard" games though. Squad Key Players Our best player CA wise. Should perform better that he does to be honest. The second best GK in the league, only behind the Valletta keeper. If he can continue his goal scoring form from last year, and the players around him will perform better, we might actually have a chance at a Euro Cup spot. This years signing is another LB, but I will retrain him as a RB. He's also our first full international player! And a few players on the shortlist. I don't know how the money is in the EC2, but it will surely be more than nothing! We had a very good second half of the season this year, and even though we still lost three games, we scored a lot of goals. The games we lost were very thight, and could have gone ways. Only one team scored more than us, and that was the league winner Valletta. We also conceded a lot less goals than the last two seasons, and even though our strikers arent the best in the league, my main transfer target next season is another defender. In the cup we got knocked out by a team that finished rock bottom of the second tier... Horrible game. Fans' PoTS Joseph Zammit won the fans vote again. I don't know why they have so many free agents availabe, but they all want to sign for me, and they also strengthen our team, so it's a no brainer really. I wanted another CB actually, but this guy is born two months earlier, so I could register him for the season. They player I wanted is on this list. Finally! The first licence for me!
