I apologize if I'm repeating a problem, I couldn't really find an answer to anyone who had a similar one to me. I've had a few problems getting this program to run. Right now I'm getting the "wsm.exe has encountered a problem and has to close." message from windows. The signature is:

AppName: wsm.exe AppVer: 9.2.0.30301 ModName: wsm.exe ModVer: 9.2.0.30301 Offset: 00fffe91

I've tried cleaning up my computer [which admittedly isn't in the greatest shape] since initially getting the message with no success. I actually had the game running [albeit very slow] for a little while prior to getting the message the first time. Then I had the "Not connecting to the internet" problem with entering the key. Now this one won't seem to go away. This FM Live really seems to have a bad effect on being able to play the game.

Nonetheless, I'd greatly appreciate any help anyone could provide.

And on a side note, this is my first time getting WSM as opposed to FM, and I noticed a few differences. The main one being that the "Manager" tab is replaced with "Head Coach." I thought that was quite silly considering the title. Is that for American users who might think that Malcolm Glazer is the 'Manager' of United? Because I'd assume anyone playing this game would most likely know otherwise. Just wondering...

Were you able to get the game to ever successfully run on the 9.2.0 patch?

If yes, do you have any idea what may have caused the game to stop suddenly working - did you do anything that you remember prior to the first failed run of the game?

Im in need of help.

My brother bought FM09 on Friday, he activated it by phone as he has no internet connection. The womans voice (after entering ALL the required information) said that the game was succesfully activated. The uni-lock screen said that the game was also succesfully activated and he clicked on the finish button on the uni-lock screen. No problems so far.

Next he double-clicked on the FM09 desktop icon that appeared when the uni-lock screen disappeared. The uni-lock screen RE-APPEARS asking for him to re-enter his keycode (so he did) 4times!!! The game will not work!!

Still no joy!!

His keycode contains no 0/O's nor any 1/I's so i know it was entered correctly.

I have rang customer support and after getting cut off of the 6th time i dont really see the point of Sega having one.

SO, before this game goes back and he get's his money, can anybody who gives a monkeys please help?

The following applies to people having problems such as yours:

We have created a disconnected Activator Fix. This fix will let you create a file, go to a website, upload the file, and then install a response file so that you can play the game without the game ever needing the internet. We hope this fixes the problem for most of you.

I suppose you'll need to find a net connection (a net cafe? friend's house?) to perform the steps instructed, and then take the response file generated back to your bro's computer (via an USB flash drive perhaps?).

I should add that doing this won't guarantee a successful activation, but is definitely worth a go.

Many thanks Bardi, glad to see somebody cares about those unfortunate people who have still not got this game working. Sadly my brother said that this was NOT GOOD ENOUGH and is taking the game back for a refund as we speak.

I'm sorry to read that, skinegg.

Apologies for not getting a quicker reply, which may have lead to your brother opting against a refund.

Okay - this may sound like a triviality, but could you try re-installing the game again - using Uniloc first, and, if that doesn't work, try via Steam once more.

Remember to perform a complete manual un-install as instructed to you before.

Hi, I was away for the last 4 days so I couldnt continue with your advice, Ok I tried installing again through uniloc and again through steam....still crashes!!! Ive tried everything you said, what do i do now?? Please dont tell me to uninstall and install again as ive tried that at least 10 times now.......do I have to get a refund? cos it seems you cant fix my problem...

I'm actually not sure if I had the patch when the game was running. I think Steam automatically downloaded all the updates so I don't know if it was there the first time I ran it. And I don't think I changed anything between the time that it worked and the time that I didn't. My external drive changed from E to F, however it was F the first time I installed the game, so I don't think that would have any effect.

Thanks for the prompt response by the way, you're doing a great job.

If you've purchased the game from the shops, maybe go for a Uniloc (and not Steam) install. Then, maybe it'll be a good idea to first patch the game to 9.1.0, and see if it runs, before installing 9.2.0 and attempting to boot up the game.

If you've purchased the game from Steam, perhaps try un-installing/re-installing the game, but make sure it does not automatically update (right click on the game in your 'My Games' tab, select the 'Updates' tab, and from the drop down menu select 'Do not automatically update this game'). Try to see if the game runs pre-update, before updating it to the latest version.

Additionally, if none of the above works, you can maybe try repeating these steps on a new install on your other drive.

I realise this isn't exactly convenient, and I do apologise in that regard. Unfortunately, trial and error is the best way to try to get this work, or at the very least identify the problem stopping your game from working.

A couple of things I should point out..

1) There's been more than a few users with a similar graphics card to yours who have reported problems getting the game to run. And, this is usually because..

2) Your graphics card is below the minimum requirements to run the game, and so isn't technically supported by FM 09.

So, my advice to you would be to either upgrade your graphics card to one that is supported by FM 09 (that would a) definitely run it and b) run it smoothly) or decide to return the game, unfortunately.

Another idea might be is to install the game via Uniloc and update it to 9.1.0 (and not 9.2.0). If that works, then that would probably mean the 9.2.0 patch has made your game un-playable.

You can find the first patch at http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php?t=60961.

Yours are a few years out of date. This won't necessarily ensure your game runs faster/smoother, but it is worth a try.

Let us know how you get on :)

Well, i cant install the patch 9.2 for mac. I have installed it to the computer but it doesn't assign itself to the game like i think it used to? If i try and open the patch it just comes up with an error?

I'm not a Mac guy, so can't really offer much advice other than perhaps to try to download the Mac 9.2.0 patch again - maybe from another location even? It could be that your download of it was incomplete or corrupt.

When i insert the disk and click on the launch game shortcut, instead of the game opening normally which has occurred for the last 2 months, the game appears as a small screen with the quote 'Football Manager 2009' has stopped working and also that 'a problem caused the program to stop working.Windows will closethe program and notify you if a solution is available' which it doesnt. This problem has only occurred today as thus i cannot open the game, it is the same after i reinstalled it and i have alos tried running it online and offline via steam. Any helps would be appreciated, Thanks. I am fully patched and can see that this seems to be a common problem but i cannot find a common answer!

Did you download, or are youp laying from disk?

If you downloaded, check the version - I know (just learnt from another customer) that the wrapped version that essellerate are prividing, for example, is already 9.2.

Im getting the same one.

Okay, I've checked your history of posts, and couldn't quite make out exactly what instructions you have followed to remove this error..

So, could you please confirm that you have done all of the following:

1. Have you installed the 9.2.0 patch? (http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php?t=82282)

2. Have you installed Microsoft DirectX SDK? (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=5493F76A-6D37-478D-BA17-28B1CCA4865A&displaylang=en)

3. Have you updated your Microsoft .NET framework? (http://community.sigames.com/showpost.php?p=2294041&postcount=3758)

4. Make sure you have your graphics card's latest drivers installed.

And, that you've also completed a manual un-install as instructed at http://community.sigames.com/showpost.php?p=2295299&postcount=3785

Yours are a few years out of date. This won't necessarily ensure your game runs faster/smoother, but it is worth a try.

Let us know how you get on :)

Thanks. If it does go quicker will I need to start a new game or will it just go quicker as soon as its downloaded?

I just bought the game and have installed it and activated it via steam. My computer is up to the system requirements.

Steam downloaded and it comes up as the game is ready but when I press cont nothing comes up and i have rechecked with steam and it says my keys are activated fine.

can you please tell me what I should be doing to get the game running

also when i installed the game it has installed under steam and there is no sports interactive folder even though i installed through cd rom

please help much appriciated

Your Football Manager 2009 folder would be located at C:\Program Files\Steam\Steamapps\Common\Football Manager 2009\ on a Steam install.

You may want to try re-installing via Uniloc if your problems persist.

The following may also need to be installed if that doesn't resolve your problems:

1. Have you installed Microsoft DirectX SDK? (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=5493F76A-6D37-478D-BA17-28B1CCA4865A&displaylang=en)

2. Have you updated your Microsoft .NET framework? (http://community.sigames.com/showpost.php?p=2294041&postcount=3758)

3. Make sure you have your graphics card's latest drivers installed.

Not sure where this sort of stuff goes much it would be much appreicated if someone could help me with this problem. As i say the game is fully patched! and im running it on Windows Home Premium

Do you have any idea what may have triggered this? In any case..

1. Try re-installing the game via Uniloc (as opposed to Steam).

2. Have you installed Microsoft DirectX SDK? (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=5493F76A-6D37-478D-BA17-28B1CCA4865A&displaylang=en)

3. Have you updated your Microsoft .NET framework? (http://community.sigames.com/showpost.php?p=2294041&postcount=3758)

4. Make sure you have your graphics card's latest drivers installed.

Okay, I've checked your history of posts, and couldn't quite make out exactly what instructions you have followed to remove this error..

So, could you please confirm that you have done all of the following:

And, that you've also completed a manual un-install as instructed at http://community.sigames.com/showpost.php?p=2295299&postcount=3785

Yes i did, but im still getting the same Error message, i really dont know what im doing wrong.

Could you please refresh my memory - were you ever able to load the game up without receiving this error?

The game itself does load up to a certain point, but when i try o get into my specific saved game, the loading bar goes all the way up, then the game comes out of itself and back to my desktop screen with the Parsing Error Message "not well-formed (invalid token) at line 1 of Profile 6.xml".

Before of course i was able to play the game with no problem at all.

Now im not able to play any leagues at all.

Haha, yes i have, but again it goes to a certain point before you put your managerial information in & the same thing happens, it comes out of itself, with the same Parsing Error message.

Well LooneyToon, your problem is well known. As is the fix..

XML Parsing Errors

Whenever I load or attempt to start a game. I get this message:

'not well informed (invalid token) at line 1 of profile. '

It means one of your 'Profiles' has been corrupted. Shut down FM, delete the cache files and this should solve this issue (but you'll also lose stored profiles that are selectable from the drop down menu when you start a new game).

How to delete your Cache files

First of all you need to turn on hidden files and folders. Go to My Computer and at the top select 'Tools' the 'Folder Options'. The go to the 'View' tab and select 'Show hidden files and folders'

Windows XP:

1. Open “My Computer”

2. Navigate to : “Documents and Settings\<Username>\Application Data\

3. Go into the “Sports Interactive” Folder.

4. Delete the “Football Manager XX” Folder.

Wndows Vista:

1. Click “Start”

2. Click your username on the start Menu

3. Click on “AppData” and then “Roaming”

4. Go into the “Sports Interactive” Folder

5. Delete the “Football Manager XX” Folder.

Mac OSX

1. Open Finder.

2. Select <User>

3. Navigate to Library\Caches\Sports Interactive

4. Remove the “Football Manager XX” Folder.

I don't see why if you have deleted the cache as stated above, you'd still be experiencing the same problem.

Would it matter if i deleted the Cache files via Steam, coz thats what i have been doing.

Football Manager XX folder?

The only options i have are Football Manger 2009, Football Manager 2009 Certificate & Installer Launcher.

Yes it would. You'll need to delete it via the Windows Explorer window.

Hi,

Two issues,

I've had the game since launch and had no problems (used steam to authorize etc.) but suddenly it's started to open up the softanchor authentication page again. When I put in the code it says it can't authorize it [-821]

I've also had the parsing errors for a while but it's not affected me playing the game

Hoping I don't have to lose my saved games....
