CFCnet has been notified by Chelsea FC that they will be making a major announcement tomorrow (Friday 24th March) at 2pm sharp. The announcement will be made simultaneously across the Official Chelsea Website (TOCW), CFCnet and other websites such as blueandwhitearmy.net.

CFCnet has not been given prior information as to the contents of the announcement but we gather it involves a raft of fans' policies that the Club want to implement from next season (Season 2006/07).

As far as CFCnet is concerned, the announcement will signify whether our lobbying of the Club and also the Fans Forum have made any impact on the Club's decision making processes. We'll have to wait and see.

Chelsea freeze ticket prices

Friday, Mar 24, 2006

Chelsea Football Club has announced a price freeze on all non-corporate tickets for season ticket holders and members for the 2006/07 season. There also a number of other wide-ranging changes to ticketing policy for next season.

The main points of the new policy are:

- a price freeze at 2005/06 prices for all non-corporate season tickets and members matchday tickets

- no additional inflation-based increase

- membership prices frozen at 2005/06 levels

- the creation of an additional unlimited concessionary area in the East Stand Upper for juveniles and senior citizens

- the creation of a new concessionary price and area for 16 to 21-year-olds who are still in full-time education, known as Student Members

- the introduction of a new members loyalty scheme for certain high-demand home matches, semi-finals and finals.

- extra incentives for members including exclusive purchase period for home matches and an allocation of Premiership away tickets

- reintroduction of a UEFA Champions League group stage home mini-season ticket with a 10% discount on ticket price

- a 50% discount on full price for juvenile and senior citizen season-ticket holders for Champions League home games if they purchase their own seat

- a maximum of 50 away Premier League tickets for supporters clubs in that match’s region

- a freeze on season ticket levels at a maximum of 23,500

- continuation of the domestic cup discount prices

- free tickets for disabled season ticket holders and members PLUS their carers

- a premium on Premier League and Champions League ticket prices that ONLY go on general sale of £5 for adults and £2.50 for juveniles/senior citizens

- price increases in most corporate areas of at least 5%

The new policy was formulated, in part, through dialogue with the club’s Fans Forum.

Chelsea FC chief executive Peter Kenyon said: “We believe this is a great move forward for the club following on from significant changes last year such as the ground reconfiguration. This has allowed us to consider, and implement, a number of dramatic changes that will benefit the fans and the club in its long-term aims.

“This policy should encourage more members, families and students to come to Stamford Bridge as we are now offering increased availability of tickets and unlimited concessions in the East Stand Upper. These decisions have also been taken after regular dialogue with the Fans Forum who are there to voice the views of our supporters to the club.

“We do appreciate that our ticket prices are at the higher end and that is reflected in the decision to freeze prices at their current levels. But we are also certain that Chelsea offers value for money on and off the pitch at Stamford Bridge. All of these decisions will help enhance that experience and atmosphere.â€

The policy also lays down a clear selling timetable for all tickets and other sales information. A full version of the ticket policy will be available on www.chelseafc.com by April 24.

From the start of next season 75% of tickets will be sold online and 25% will be to personal callers at the box office.

Chelsea FC commercial director, Ron Gourlay, who put together the policy, added:

“A lot of hard work has gone into this policy, and as a club we are proud of it. The scheme is transparent and should address every major area. The loyal fan who attends the less high profile fixtures will be rewarded in our loyalty scheme ahead of someone who attends the more high profile matches. We believe that is fair and right.

“We also believe that by adding a premium to tickets that go on general sale we are carrying on the fight against ticket touting as well as offering an extra incentive to members to come to Stamford Bridge.â€

All matchday ticket transactions with a credit card will continue to be subject to a £1.50 ticket administration fee per ticket. Chelsea has researched this and it is standard industry practice to charge per ticket and Chelsea charges less for this than nearly all major clubs.

Season ticket renewals will be sent out by post on April 24. You will be able to renew online on May 9. Season ticket holders have until May 31 to renew.

Membership renewals will be mailed on May 16 and new memberships will be available from May 23.

Any season ticket holder who relocated from the East Upper to the West Upper for the 2005/6 season, will be charged the West Upper price for 2006/7.

Chelsea v Man City

Stamford Bridge

Saturday, 25 March

Kick-off: 1500 GMT

BBC Radio Five Live

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has a fully-fit squad but Arjen Robben and William Gallas are both suspended.

Shaun Wright-Phillips has started three of the last four Premiership games and hopes to face his old club and half-brother Bradley.

Man City team news to follow later.

Chelsea (from): Cech, Cudicini, Ferreira, Geremi, Terry, Carvalho, Huth, Del Horno, Gallas, Makelele, Lampard, Essien, Maniche, Gudjohnsen, J Cole, Duff, Wright-Phillips, Crespo, Drogba.

Manchester City boss Stuart Pearce:

"The injuries have tended to come in cycles this season.

"But we do not have a big enough squad to cope with the numbers we are losing at the moment."

BIG-MATCH FACTS

CHELSEA continue their quest for a domestic League and Cup double when they take on mid-table Manchester City on the re-laid Stamford Bridge pitch. The Londoners qualified for the FA Cup semi-finals for the first time under Jose Mourinho with Wednesday's 1-0 win over Newcastle, but the performance was unconvincing.

The reigning champions may be vying for a fourth successive home League win to take their unbeaten League run at the Bridge to 41 games, but they've faltered a little of late and have now fallen behind last season's club record Premiership points tally to this comparative stage of the campaign. They're 12 points ahead of second placed Manchester United, but the Red Devils have a game in hand on the Blues and are still to visit Stamford Bridge on the penultimate week of the season. The Londoners have lost two of their last five top table duels, including last Sunday's at near neighbours Fulham and now must avoid back-to-back defeats for the first time in 115 Premier League encounters, since Blackburn (h) and Newcastle (a) defeated them on 22 February and 1 March 2003.

The Blues have lost only one of the last 15 Premiership matches against City. A 79th minute strike from Joe Cole was enough in the reverse fixture on 28 December, when the Londoners took the points without the presence of Frank Lampard. It gives Chelsea the chance of claiming a fifth Premiership 'double' in seven opportunities over City, and a ninth of all-time over them.

MANCHESTER CITY are positioned in no man's land between the European chasers and the relegation strugglers, and have little to fight for having seen their interest in the FA Cup ended by West Ham at Eastlands on Monday. City famously were the only club to beat Chelsea in the Londoners' title winning campaign last season but they travel to the capital in danger of suffering three Premiership defeats on the bounce for the first time in 92 top flight engagements, since Leicester (h), Newcastle (a) and Middlesbrough (h) beat them successively between 9 and 30 November 2003.

Stuart Pearce's side have won half as many top-flight games as Chelsea (12 to 24), and only three of those have been on the road. Indeed they've not won in seven away League trips, the last four of which have been lost. Their last League win away from the City of Manchester Stadium came in London, in the 2-5 victory at Charlton on 4 December. Until defeat by Wigan last Saturday, City had been alternating between victory and loss since the start of 2006 and such inconsistency has all but put them out of contention for a Uefa Cup spot.

Mike Sheron got a brace, David White one and Frank Sinclair scored an own goal, when Manchester City beat Chelsea 2-4 in the teams' first ever Premier League meeting at Stamford Bridge on 9 January 1993. But they've been unable to claim three points from the West London ground since, drawing three and losing four of their seven subsequent visits.

KEY PLAYER NOTES/POTENTIAL MILESTONES

CHELSEA

Frank LAMPARD is a double shy of 50 Premiership goals for Chelsea.

LAMPARD has scored 14 times in the Premiership this season from midfield, and trails Thierry HENRY and Ruud VAN NISTELROOY by five in the race for the Barclays Golden Boot.

LAMPARD needs one more goal to set a new scoring mark for midfield players in a Premiership season. No player has managed more than 14 in a single top-flight campaign since the Premier League was constituted.

If they figure, Didier DROGBA and Njitap GEREMI will be making their 50th Premiership appearances for Chelsea.

If he participates, Shaun WRIGHT-PHILLIPS will be playing against his former club.

Suspended: Arjen ROBBEN, William GALLAS

MANCHESTER CITY

David JAMES is the most experienced goalkeeper in the Premiership. He's made 430 appearances, trailing only outfield players Gary SPEED (474) and Alan SHEARER (436).

The most recent 85 of those 430 appearances JAMES has made consecutively - the longest current unbroken run in the Premier League. He has appeared in goal in every League game for City since David Seaman played his last match on 10 January 2004.

JAMES has conceded more goals than any other keeper in Premier League history (477), but has kept 130 clean sheets. Only Seaman (141) and Nigel Martyn (137) have kept more.

I hope to get to 4/5 home games next season. I haven't been to the Bridge for 2 years now, the last game I went to was the 0-0 draw at home to Villa.

We'll beat City with ease, 3-0 or 4-0.

Hello friends!

I just wandered into this thread to tell how much I love Chelsea and their fans. Their manager is a nice gentleman who make sure Chelsea plays fantastic football. Their players are all full of class and are being unfairly treated by the FA and the rest of the universe.

Haha I've just read about that, it's exciting actually, I like Vitesse a lot. Give us Hersi?

F_F, that happened a while back, Taiwo and Woods have played a Youth game each and there's a hearing soon to determine what we shall pay for them. Bates is having a fit.

Hersi is not even 10% of what he is made out to be on CM and FM and he ....

*slams mouth shut*

I mean: Hersi is brilliant, much better than Robben for example. Want to swap?

To be honest I don't think we have players of a quality that Chelsea would be interested in. What we do have is serious money problems and a need for good cheap players so if Chelsea is going to "park" some of their fringe-players or youth-players at Vitesse that's fine with me.

Just as long we are not dependend of them or obliged to field too many of their players.

FA yet to decide on Drogba action

The Football Association is yet to decide whether to take any action against Chelsea striker Didier Drogba.

Drogba admitted using his hands in scoring Chelsea's second goal in the 2-0 win against Manchester City.

The Ivory Coast striker also revealed in a BBC interview he has conned referees by diving, before later retracting the admission.

An FA spokesman told BBC Sport that no decision had been made on whether Drogba will face charges.

Manchester City players were incensed when referee Rob Styles failed to spot Drogba's handball in scoring his second goal of the game at Stamford Bridge.

City captain Sylvain Distin had already been booked and was sent off after being shown a second yellow card after continuing his protest as the players trooped off a half-time.

After the match Drogba admitted he had handled the ball.

He said: "Yes, it was handball, but that's part of the game.

"If City had done it, nobody would have mentioned it, but everyone is out to make a big mess about Chelsea."

Drogba was then forced to quickly make a retraction in his post-match interview after admitting he dived.

"Sometimes I dive, sometimes I stand," he said, before adding: "No, I don't dive."

Chelsea are currently facing two charges of failing to control their players, following incidents at West Bromwich Albion and Fulham.

Meanwhile, players' union chief Gordon Taylor has advised Drogba to change his approach to avoid letting his talent be overshadowed by his behaviour.

Professional Footballers' Association chief executive Taylor said: "He is a talented striker but it diminishes the quality of his game by what he's doing.

"I think Drogba has been unlucky with a couple of handballs that have added to the situations where the opposition has felt he has made too much of the contact.

"But in the end, it's going to be up to himself.

"It's down to the individual. They know what they're doing and they have to live with themselves.

"They're going to be regarded as much better players if they remove that aspect from their game."

</div></BLOCKQUOTE>

Can't believe the FA are even considering charging him over this, surely they can't?

What does it matter if he admitted it, everyone could see it was handball anyway. So if he had lied in the interview it would be ok? icon_confused.gif

Yas, more pointless stattage. If you apply hockey point scoring rules (1 point for a goal, 1 for an assist) to football, and the Premiership this season...

Drogba has 17 points (10+7) in 17.27 games.

Henry has 23 points (19+4) in 23.93 games.

vanNistelrooy has 22 points (19+3) in 23.6 games.

Lampard has 20 points (14+6) in 29 games.

Rooney has 19 points (13+6) in 28.25

Drogba: scores a point every 1.01 games

Henry: scores a point every 1.04 games

van Nistelrooy: scores a point every 1.07 games

Lampard: scores a point every 1.45 games

Rooney: scores a point every 1.49 games

NEW YORK (AP) -- English Premier League leader Chelsea is aligning itself with the Los Angeles Galaxy and the Major League Soccer team's parent company, the Anschutz Entertainment Group.

Chelsea said in a statement Wednesday that it expects the alliance "will cover programs and exchanges on young players, medical and coaching."

Chelsea said it will be part of a tournament staged by hosting an MLS team every other year starting in 2007. The English club, closing in on its second straight Premier League title, is owned by Russian Roman Abramovich, who has spent lavishly to acquire star players.

Bates wants compensation

Leeds United chairman Ken Bates is set to launch a massive £24 million compensation claim against his old club Chelsea.

The former Blues supremo is angry after two of Leeds' young England academy stars were allegedly poached by the champions.

Tom Taiwo and Michael Woods have been offered academy contracts on July 1 by the London club, after turning down scholarship deals put to them by Leeds.

But Bates is convinced that there is 'damning' evidence of an illegal approach, and insists he will not back down.

"We are talking about two of the best young players in the country who are the same age as Theo Walcott, who has just joined Arsenal for £12 million," Bates told the Daily Express.

"If Walcott is valued at £12 million for a 16-year-old, so our boys of the same age can be valued at £12 million each. There is a principle here, surely clubs will abandon their academies if their players are nicked by the Premiership elite.

"Put it this way, our claim will be a damn sight higher than the £200,000 offered by Chelsea."

Leeds chief executive Shaun Harvey believes the club will be entitled to compensation should the pair accept the offer.

"They have been released and are on trial at Chelsea," he said.

"If they sign for another professional club we are entitled to compensation." </div></BLOCKQUOTE>
