Remo Serao (YP131) is likely leaving in Summer, angry that we didn't let him talk to a bigger team ages ago. Not one to let go of a grudge, him. He likely only had one good year left, but there's a huge drop off between him and our next best RM - in fact, our new RM will probably end up being Giuseppe Tagliapietra (YP138). Not ideal.

Other Teams: All lost in the First Qualifying Round of Europa.

Oooooh. San Marino managed to win their Nations League group, which means they'll be playing in the Euro Playoff for a chance to make Euro 2096. That'd be an unbelievable accomplishment, and I'm going to take over the team closer to the time to try and help them do it.

We have a tendency to make these Second Round games a lot harder than they should be.

That's a bad tie for us. We've played them four times, and lost every single time, scoring 7 goals and conceding 24. We're better than we were the last time we faced them (17 years ago), but I don't fancy our chances.

The old manager has retired after the end of Euro Qualifying (San Marino actually did pretty well, drawing twice with Sweden and Belarus and beating Lithuania twice), so I'm off to apply for the job again.

Well that was easy. Next step - qualify for a tournament for the first time in history.

Terenzi could be the one.

16 finishing. Unreal. We've had one or two players come through with such a high stat over the years, but they've always been completely useless in every other area. Terenzi looks like the real deal. He's far from the finished product, but that's an unbelievable base to work from. I just hope that 5* PA is accurate, because he could be the best player we've ever had.

National Team Report

Well, since the most important games in San Marino's history are here (combined with the fact that I may keep this job after the Playoff regardless of what happens), I figured showing you the state of the squad might be a good idea.

Goalkeepers:

36f075ba76e7717acbcf67184e3761f2.png

No surprises, but our starting #1 GK is the Wall of Casadei. Unfortunately, no matter how fantastic he was against Roma, he's not that great. He's by no means terrible, but I'd say GK was one of our weaker positions.

c2cf21d2f3f2692ed541c3dce658c279.png

Our backup keeper is Daniele Franciosi (YP148), who I'm hoping will eventually displace Casadei as #1 for both club and country. He looks pretty good for a 17 year old, but he's clearly not ready for the limelight yet.

2abfef38f198631b711237c322533057.png

Our number #3 GK. Hopefully, he'll never play a game for either club or country.

Fullbacks:

340556151dcb395fceb2df2d630c165d.png

Not only is Matteo Mina (YP134) our starting RB, he's our only RB in the entire squad. Lets just hope he doesn't get injured. He's not fantastic, to be honest, but it's not like he's at risk of losing his place.

1e5f2ac920220a70c34b92d996697d31.png

Matteo Ragini is one of the stars of the team. At 32 years old he doesn't have long left, but I'm hoping he can help make history before he does hang up his boots. He started his career at us before moving to Greece, and currently plays for Estoril in Portugal.

370103f940a349bdbe8b90ae739b474d.png

San Giovanni's starting LB, he's in line to become the starter for San Marino when Ragini retires. That doesn't exactly fill me with a lot of confidence.

Centrebacks:

d3b06cfc65307c457d08442cc0177af5.png

If there's a position that will be our downfall, it's CB. Mularoni is our best one, and he's really not fantastic. He left us to go and play in Turkey, where he averages about a 6.4 rating, which should tell you all you need to know. Oh, and that's not in the top division in Turkey, either.

Rinaldi and Mina compete for that second CB spot. Rinaldi probably has the edge right now, but neither are great.

4ae5083f184a55d10b678c2b4b92168f.png

Matteo Nanni (YP120) is a long, long way removed from his prime. He's only in the squad for his experience, at this point.

Centre Midfielders:

a8ab87ccd1d730c2d71f3ed1e7a3634b.png

Zavoli is such an important player for us. If we use a DM, he'll be there. If not, he'll be one of the two men starting for us in the centre of midfield without question. His versatility is a great asset, but it's made better by the fact he's genuinely good enough to play at DM, CM or on the wing. He's going to be a big part of any success we have.

10abfa407237eb85d112d1ded07d648e.png

San Giovanni's best player, Berti is comfortable both at CAM and CM, and will be the first name on the teamsheet at either position, depending on the formation we use. He's one of the best players for the NT, although it won't be long before he starts to decline.

54d80b88fefab51972f3fde1ef8c9de3.png

Our third choice CM, Simoncini will only start for us if we use Berti as a CAM or Zavoli as a DM. He's nothing special, but he's a very dependable, solid player, and does have a tendency to hit a few nice shots from range every now and again.

385a50de2274a69678be290153aaad4e.png

At just 18 years old, Michelotti isn't quite ready for a game as important as this one, but I'm hopeful that he'll grab a starting spot at CM in the future. He's absolutely rapid, which could come in very handily in a box to box type role.

cbcdeed4ba8f2bedb6694b9f296bce2d.png

I'm very happy with Giannini as a backup DM. At just 18 years of age, he's not quite ready for a starting spot yet, but he could easily get one in the near future.

Wingers:

83fda06e7124a234d5ca027a9a287e6a.png

By far the best winger at our disposal. Zafferani is absolutely quality, and he'll cause opposing defences all sorts of problems when he's at his best.

356b999276d67c9211d8501cde009a9e.png

Pistolesi will be the man to get the start at RM. He's 32 years old, but I feel that he's still got enough left in the tank to give us one last push.

7aa75eeccefe71a18d37a9035dc7ff29.png

At 18 years old, Stocco is clearly going to take over Pistolesi's job very soon. He's not quite ready yet, but it won't be long.

b54b96e9a193bcd60fd285d4efb73c47.png

A backup CM and winger, he's decent at either, but not someone that you'd want starting if you could help it. His height could prove to be an advantage, though.

Strikers:

97b4939c92cf623a86486f53227b5c3d.png

Our best striker, and he's pretty damn good. He's just 19 years old, and I'm hoping that he can develop to become good enough to play in Serie A consistently.

2e1e5ae1f7851011df205976e54f7791.png

San Giovanni's starting striker. I just don't see anyway that I can't play either of these two, which means we might have to go to two upfront - at least against teams like Moldova, Belarus and Albania.

bb39115dc7e58691ea0843c0ff1033c9.png

Luca Canton (YP130) left us because he couldn't get into the team over Silvano Zonzini. He still can't, but he's a great option off the bench.

d1d9e01c5aa94b81721e07af815d00a6.png

At any other position, Gualandi's talent would make him a shoe-in to start. Unfortunately, we're extremely top heavy upfront.

So that's the team. Tactics wise, I still haven't decided, and the game against Moldova is fast approaching. I think that two upfront is a must, which means it'll probably be a flat 4-4-2. How will that work out? We'll have to wait and see.

I wish you good luck against Moldova and let's hope Terenzi becomes San Giovanni's Steve Murray!

I'm absolutely gutted. We were by far the stronger team, but my worries about our strength at CB came true. Our CBs both had an absolute nightmare, and just couldn't contain a mediocre Moldavian attack. We've thrown away a golden chance to make it to the Euros.

I'm going to keep hold of the job for the next four years. The plan is to get relegated in the next Nations League, so that we're back down to Division 4 for the 2099 Nations League - the one that sends teams to the Playoff to qualify for the 2100 Euros. Our best chance of making the Euros is through the Nations League, and I couldn't care less about that tournament when it doesn't give you a Euro spot.

So we'll get relegated for the one that doesn't matter, and then be back in Division 4 for the one that does. Hopefully, we can be given an easy enough group to make it back to the Euro Playoff in four years time.

That's the best tie we could have been given. Prague are one of the weakest seeded teams there are, and this is a golden opportunity for us. The only problem is Marino Berti (YP137) broke his foot against Kukesi, and he's out for 4-5 months. That's a huge loss, and it'll make our task a lot, lot harder.

I wish he wasn't actually two footed, considering they're two left feet, but I'm very happy with a player coming in with 4.5* PA at a position we need. These last two intakes have been great.

EDIT:

I've decided to tag him as well. We are in need of a new RB, and while his PA isn't the highest, I'm hopeful that might not be accurate. He looks pretty good currently and has a great personality, so he could turn out to be rather useful for us.

Unlucky vs Moldova, nice to see the squad. A few additions in the youth intakes and it could be a contender! That CB and recent ST will be great players in the future.

Cheers smp! Our progress has been a little bit slower than yours  , but I'm really excited to see what our new shiny toys can do.

It's apparently 50 years since we last played Saint-Etienne. Time flies, because I thought it was about 10. Anyway, we've actually done rather well against them historically, although most of  the players who featured last time we played them are probably sadly no longer with us, so who knows.

I like his personality, but that's about it. his attributes are decent, but not fantastic, and we don't need strikers right now. I think I might give him a shot on the wing as a makeshift winger, because I can't see him ever making it as a striker here.

cc3a08618a81b988b2ed45d353f2d959.png

That's a bit better. For someone with his size his physicals are a bit disappointing, but considering he's only 16 they should grow considerably, He could become a useful asset for us.

So here's the tactic I'm going to try out in Europe:

d473483f9ce9936fba2a4387d408a82b.png

We've gone from a 4-1-4-1 to a 4-2-3-1, but I'm hoping that the roles I've set will mean we've still got adequate defensive cover. I'm hopeful that we can be tight at the back while actually managing to get enough bodies forward to create chances.

The mentality is counter, and the only TI so far is low crosses - to start with I always keep it simple, to see what the tactic is like in it's default state before changing things that might not need to be changed.

Thoughts?
