Summary: I gave the technically gifted young CAM a couple of starts in our cup games against lower league sides, during which he scored and became our youngest ever goalscorer in the process. Definitely has the potential to make it at the club one day, with Sami Denis potentially leaving his rise to the first team could come quicker than expected.

Due to the confusion/kerfuffle caused by the recent screenshot bug/issue a lot of screenshots I thought I "had" I actually don't have. So the update isn't as concise and as in-depth as I usually like to do but hopefully by the next one its either fixed or as i'm aware of it I can make sure I get the shots I want.

Very saddening to see him leaving especially after he made the step up to Ligue 2 so comfortably, but a 17 year old scoring 25 goals in a season is always going to attract some attention and despite dismissing interest from Ligue 1 FC Nantes, when Olympiakos showed interest it was the Champions League that understandably turned Jardin's head and with his contract expiring in the summer it seemed to make sense to sell him and make £1.1M which will potentially rise to £2.1M after appearances and goals, rather then risking him becoming unhappy and leaving for nothing in the summer. I also managed to put in a 50 percent of next transfer fee in there, so if all goes well and he becomes a success story at Olympiakos and they sell him on then we can profit even more from the deal.

A quick look at the transfers I have made following Vincent Jardin's departure to Olympiakos. The first thing to address was of course actually replacing Vincent Jardin, I got in a number of strikers on trials and through doing so discovered that pretty much all of the remaining strikers at the club weren't really that good. As a result of this I actually brought in 3 strikers over the summer, 2 on free transfers and 1 of them I actually paid money for! Mamadou Sambague joined us for £40K following US Avranches relegation, last season Sambague got 18 goals in 29 games at the same level as we are, so hopefully he can repeat this feat again for us. He hasn't exactly been on fire in his first 9 games for us, but he's still got 2 goals in 9 games and 4 assists, showing he has more to his game than just goals - there's certainly more to come from him.

I got in a few CAM's on trial as I needed one as back-up/rotation to Xavier Mercier, however it turned out I found 2 players that were significantly better than him. One of which Sunday Mba I wont show just yet as he's mainly a rotation option, but new first choice CAM is 19 year old Moussa Diallo who has some very nice technical attributes. I've got in a few new CB's to add depth as despite my two CB's having a good season last year they're not really thaaat good and Basilua and Monfay are both probably going to be first team throughout the season, again I don't have screenshots of them as don't feel showing off CBs at this stage of the season is that exciting. Fode Koita and Nolan Roux were both signed on free transfers to battle it out for a place in the first team at ST, at the moment Roux is edging it.

I'll get the main negative out of the way first as once again we've crashed out of the Coupe de la Ligue at the first hurdle, a disappointing 4-2 home loss to LEMANS FC, we'll try again next year! However in the league we've got off to a fantastic start despite not really actually looking all that good at all :D We were terrible at Bastia on the first day of the season, never really looked like getting anything from it when Sambague popped up with an 85th minute equalizer. Against Dijon again we didn't look all that good, went behind to an early goal and even with Moussa Diallo's 65th minute equalizer we were still getting dominated and I expected us to concede and lose when substitute Nolan Roux got on the end of an 89th minute cross to give us our first win of the season! In our games with OGC Nice and Chamois Niortais we were very poor, struggled to keep possession and never really looked like scoring, OGC Nice especially were so unlucky not to win as they had a ridiculous amount of chances, it wasn't even one of those games where your GK puts in a 10 out of 10 performance to give you the points, they just bottled their chances even missing an 80th minute penalty to give them the win.

Against Tours it looked like a similar story, we went behind to an early goal and looked absolutely terrible until Fode Koita headed in from a corner in the 88th minute to give us what looked like a late equalizer. Yet Sunday Mba had other ideas as the substitute netted a 94th minute winner to send our few away fans absolutely mad. We went 1-0 down EA Guingamp very early on and it seemed at times in the first half that we wouldn't score unless we were given a penalty, thankfully we were given a penalty in the 28th minute and Sambague obliged by putting us level. It looked for most of the second half that we would come away with a point, until the 83rd minute when Nolan Roux put us 2-1 up, we were hanging on and hanging on until Xavier Mercier scored in the 93rd minute to confirm yet another comeback win.

At home to CS Sedan Ardenne, who its worth noting before this game we'd lost on all 4 occasions we'd played them in the French National. Our first Ligue 2 meeting and it looked like a similar pattern would repeat itself, at half-time we sat 2-0 down and could easily have been 3 or 4 down. Again it looked like we wouldn't score unless we got a penalty, luckily again, we got one and in the 61st minute Fode Koita got one back from the spot. In our previous game Xavier Mercier popped up with a goal in the 93rd minute, this time he popped up in the 91st minute to bring us level and I was glad to steal a point from the old National enemy. However there was more drama to be had as in the 94th minute Moussa Diallo smashed one in from a scramble during a corner to gift us a magical 3 points! Our latest game against US Orleans had considerably less late drama, but still despite being 1-0 down at half-time, Nolan Roux equalized, this time as early as the 70th minute to give us a point.

So yeah i'm really confused as to how good the squad is/how well we're actually playing. Of course looking at our results we're in absolutely fantastic form and are actually level on points with the league leaders, only 2nd place by goal difference which is amazing considering its just our 2nd season in Ligue 2. But pretty much all of our points and wins have come from late heroics almost all the time completely against the run of play. I know the saying is that to win ugly is the sign of a good team, but this is something else and is really not good for my health

It looked like we'd run our luck and that our early form was a fluke as we lost 3 in a row to begin this stretch of games, however we bounced back and got 2 consecutive 3-2 wins over AS Nancy-Lorraine and Stade de Reims respectively. We followed this up with a 3-1 loss to LEMANS FC, but then managed to win 2-0 twice in a row, including away to Valenciennes in the French Cup. In our latest game we drew 2-2 with Creteil which was disappointing considering we were 2-0 up at half-time.

Not the greatest run of games - 2 league wins from 8, with 2 draws and 6 losses. Also went out of the French Cup in the 9th round yet again getting a terribly unlucky draw with Marseille away, pity with it not being at home is that we didn't even really pocket any money from it. Biggest disappointment from this run of games is we haven't been scoring that many which is something we were pretty good at last season, losing a consistent scorer in Jardin has hurt us despite Fode Koita and Mamadou Sambague both being decent strikers that pop up with goals sometimes.

Dropped off the promotion places but still comfortably mid-table.

cbd5472a640562f22be01428b2645589.png

A decent youth intake but I doubt any of them aside from Josh Darrieux have a chance of making it. Jean Fofana looks kinda average and I actually already have a 16 year old German left back (offered to be by his agent, not from the academy) who is meant to be proper good and will easily get games over this guy. Mallory Parra probabaly wont make it either, he's got some nice stats here and there but I especially don't like that 1 finishing stat, the 3 concentration or the 5 team work.

Looking at it, 2 wins, 5 draws and 1 loss isn't all that bad of a run of form, but FIVE games without scoring a single goal ffs?!

feb1e5c0007d829a80030f814b88cd2e.png

With 6 games to go this leaves us in 9th place. We should do better than our 15th place finish last season and it is definitely a gradual improvement, but its so frustrating how we could be properly challenging for promotion if we turned some of these 0-0's into 1 or 2-0 wins especially with some of the chances we get. Definitely lacking a consistent scorer and will look to get a new striker in next season.

Pau FC - Season 7: 2021/22 Ligue 2

504d928efc9a2fef2d6e02af22fc2a71.png

We ended the season pretty well tbf, 3 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss from our last 6 games and none of them were 0-0 draws which is always a bonus. Highlight probably being our late winner against Montpollier which more or less sent them down to the National, not got anything against them or anything but was nice to win late as we've done so many times this season.

aae1976b9e689669490d487b5315c3ae.png

Ended up 9th which is pretty decent, only 6 points off of 3rd place and the promotion that would come with it. Amazing really to think how close we were to getting promoted considering how badly we played and the amount of terrible 0-0 draws we took part in this season. Gives me some hope that we could maybe get promoted next season if we get a consistent goal scorer in the side and keep players fit all year.

Transfers

Already explained most of the signings. Malaury Martin joined in December to add more depth to our central midfield department, Robert Foulon joined in January to give us another option up-front as Nolan Roux slacked off from his early form. Notable departure obviously being Vincent Jardin leaving for Olympiakos - more on that later.

Squad pt 1, Squad pt 2=61590018&filters[recent]=1&sort=1&o=3"]

Decent squad depth, few players that I signed didn't perform as well as I'd hoped. Got a lot of players leaving on frees in the summer so can hopefully get some more players in on frees to add better depth to the team with money in wages their departures will make. Fode Koita probably our best player, 17 goals and 11 assists from 31 starts which was a pretty decent return. Mamadou Sambague the other main striker, started 41 games and got 15 goals and 12 assists - he's pretty good but reminds me of Bouscarrat's first season in the National, he's got an okay amount of goals but can score so many and misses so many easy chances, could easily be a 30 goal a season guy if he took his chances, its not even like he's got bad composure or finishing so i'm not sure why he bottles so many chances all of the time. Moussa Diallo is my new CAM, the 19 year old had a pretty decent first season.

Finances

Less said about this the better really. It is worth noting that if Vincent Jardin had played 30/40 games for Olympiakos and scored 10+ goals we would actually have an extra £1M and wouldn't be in the red, instead Olympiakos haven't even given him a competitive debut, despite turning down my offer for a loan back clause. ********.=61590018&filters[recent]=1&sort=1&o=16"]

Others

Lillian Gauthier was used sparingly as back up for DM and CM, he started in a French Cup game against one of the lower league sides and actually scored. Jorge Pereira the center back and Gauther's back-up Louis Lavie also featured in that game.

Alumni

  • Vincent Jardin hasn't played a single competitive game for Olympiakos, absolutely criminal from them to waste him like that, haven't even loaned the guy out to anyone else. Be interesting to see what happens if they don't play him again or loan him out next season, will be keeping tabs.
  • Sami Denis is still a free agent and will most likely retire shortly as a result of not picking up any interest from other clubs

I only made 2 transfers during the summer, I purchased a much younger Goalkeeper on a free to provide back-up and eventually become our new #1, however Kouakbi got injured in pre-season so the new guy has already become #1. I also got in a free agent striker 22 year old Alpha Mbaye who has spent his entire career in Lille's reserves.

A mixed bag but overall a pretty disappointing start to the season. 1 win, 3 draws and 2 losses in our first 6 league games. The first two games were worrying as Alpha Mbaye failed to hit the net in either. He grabbed his first goal for us in a 3-2 win over CS Sedan Ardennes which saw us progress past the first round of the Coupe de la Ligue for the very first time. He then bagged a hat-trick in our first league win of the season over AS Nancy-Lorraine, just when things looked like they were going as planned - disaster struck!

We did progress to the 3rd round of the Coupe de la Ligue after a win over FC Istres in extra time, but aside from that it wasn't great stuff really in our other two league games which ended up as draws. We should have lost really at Stade Lavallois but for a last minute equalizer from Sambague which was very remnant of our last minute salvos last season.

6 points from 6 games, not the end of the world but not the kind of start I was hoping for. Need to kick on and do better in our next run of games.

3 wins, 5 draws and 2 losses later and we're still slacking a bit in the league. As a result of a penalty shoot-out victory over Havre AC we have gone through to the 4th round of the Coupe de la Ligue. We're also through in the French Cup after winning 2-0 against USBCO.

A lot further off the play-offs than i'd like but despite being 13th we are only a few wins away from a similar position to where we finished last season. I'm hoping a good run of form can see us shoot up the table shortly.

Some bad news as i'm beginning to think that Mbaye might be a very injury prone player and will likely never live up to the potential my staff and I think he has. Bit disappointing really.

9c77f3254416e2465190c717d7bfbbd4.png

Some good news as despite our ropey form and less than impressive start to Ligue 2 this season we have been given the award for best team in Ligue 2 in the 2014 calendar year. Would've thought the French press would hate me/us as I never give them anything always just sending my assistant :D

And the most exciting news we've had in a long time...

59ea89159500b8090d997ecc9b1b815e.png

We've finally got a massive HOME DRAW in one the Cups. This game should surely see us break our gate receipts record and get at least 100/150K into the clubs finances which is much needed. Hopefully we can give Marseille a decent game as well, they're only sitting 13th in Ligue 1 and in dreadful form having scored the least amount of goals in the entire league, i'm hoping for a 0-0, keep them at bay for an extra half an hour and then knock them out on penalties, then get PSG at home in the 10th round :D I can dream right

Absolutely gutting :D When they missed that penalty I thought for sure we'd hold them and that them missing the penalty in extra time would swing it my way. But to lose it in the 122nd minute ffs! I couldn't even argue against their being that much injury time because Qasmi was down for ages in the second half of the extra time. Still so gutting to not get to penalties though :D

Just noticed i've messed up and not taken screenshots after the 24th round of games had finished playing. I'm close enough to having played 32 league games now that I might as well just wait until a few more games when i've played the 32 to post my next update. I did manage to get one of yet another injury to one of my main strikers, this one being a really really bad one.

I wont go into too much detail as their are a lot of games covered in this update but a relatively decent yet still somewhat inconsistent part of the season has lead to us being in an outside shot of promotion with 6 games left. We've got 2 massive games left, one away to Tours and the other at home to LEMANSFC, the other 4 games I all see as relatively winnable games so it will be down to how we fair against 2 other promotion rivals that determines whether we go up. I feel like we could do it but as we started the season so poorly we are relying on 4 other teams to slip up a few times which might not happen.

Pau FC - Season 8: 2022/23 Ligue 2

e87768ea1c00ee17bbeb7d6db319f4af.png

Aside from the 3-1 away loss to Tours it was a fantastic end to the season with 12 points from our next 5 games and remaining undefeated in those last 5 games. Was it enough for us to get promoted?!...

665dad8e051feacdc87f39191f4c091b.png

Nope. It was the loss away to Tours that did it, if we'd won that game we would have done it. A shame but perhaps a sign that we're not quite there and ready for Ligue 1. In all fairness considering our resources, finances etc we've done pretty well to challenge for promotion, but I know with the starting 11/subs that we've got when everyone is fit that we're good enough to go up. If we had Jardin last season or especially this season I have no doubt we would've gone up, to see him barely even playing for Olympiakos makes this even more frustrating. A lot of injuries to our strikers didn't help our cause either.

Transfers

Two first team signings, with Mbaye becoming first choice, whilst not being better than the other strikers he has much higher potential and being so young I expected him to increase a lot throughout the season. More on that later. Douichier was signed to compete with Kouakbi for the number 1 spot in goal, but it wasn't much of a competition really with Douichier being comfortably better than him the moment he signed. Weber is an Austrian CM that has very high potential, probably won't see much of him for a few years yet.

Squad pt 1, Squad pt 2=61590018&filters[recent]=1&sort=1&o=3"]

Moussa Diallo our CAM was by far the highlight of the season, 16 goals and 9 assists for him and he ended up joint top scorer, which probably says more about our strikers than anything else but was still a crucial part of team. Our best midfielder aside from Diallo would be Abderrahmane Aichour from the academy, scored 7 goals himself this season which is pretty good for a central midfielder whose primary strengths lie in defending and not attacking. Alpha Mbaye was very good when he was fit, which unfortunately was very rare. Constantly injured and constantly struggled to get match fit when he wasn't injured, is also a very inconsistent player - just a very frustrating player in general, hoping he can stay fit more next year if we are to go up. Fode Koita ended up joint top scorer with Diallo, decent player but is only getting worse with age and actually surprised me by scoring as many as he did. Mamadou Sambague's goal scoring record has always been remarkably average even for a 2nd choice striker, but one thing he does do is get a **** load of exists - 10 goals and 17 assists in 43 starts, not a fantastic record but he offers a lot more than goals which is important to the team. Robert Foulon had a pretty good goal scoring record himself until he broke his leg, hoping he can recover and chip in with a few goals from the bench again next season.

Summary: Wasn't good enough to warrant inclusion in any games, even in the cups. I'd be amazed if he made it now, not really improved physically from when he was 14, 2 strength is just awful even for a 5ft 2 and 9 stone guy. Needs to hit the gym.

Others

  • Emergency back up utility midfielder Yanis Bats got a start in the French Cup and then a start and a sub game in the league, he actually scored and got MOTM in 1 start and iirc he scored the winner. Took him off the actual updates a while back as expected him to want to leave when there was no first team football on offer but if he's happy to stay as a pretty cheap back-up player i'll probably keep him around.
  • 21 year old DM Jonathan Lebrun started 2 games in the league when we were desperate and he was painfully average.
  • 21 year old DLC/DM Maxime Huguet also saw 1 start in the league when we had an injury crisis, wasn't great really although he does appear to have a pretty sweet lip piercing.
  • I'm not really sure why Mamadou Diouf is still content to stay at the club, he's 23 now and has barely played any first team football in his tenure. I suppose the 600p/w wages for being nothing more than a back-up bench player might be why, but still seems odd that he hasn't requested first team football at all. Got 8 sub appearances when I was looking to close games out and make defensive subs.
  • Lillian Gauthier an 18 year old DM prospect saw 1 sub game in the league and 1 in the Cup, he scored in the Cup which might also have been a winner iirc.

Alumni

  • Vincent Jardin started 4 times for Olympiakos and got 2 sub games, getting just an assist. Had an average rating of 7.22 though which is pretty decent, I think they might be playing him at AML or CAM. Disappointing that he's still not getting the first team football he needs to develop especially when we're crying out for a striker as consistent and good as him at this level.
  • Sami Denis did actually manage to find a club, Genets Anglet of the CFA C. By the looks of it he is a regular starter for them which is nice to see, though it looks like he's been pretty crap really judging by his stats and average rating.

Quick look at the transfers I made. Despite their massive decrease of my wage budget they actually put it back up to 90K or so when I told them I'd challenge for promotion. These weren't the best players I found, more the best I could afford. I had so many players on trial that were better than what I ended up with but I just couldn't afford either their wages or their agent fees/signing on fees. Another "big" boost to our measly transfer and wage budget was the departure of Gonzalo Rojas who has been first choice right back/left back cover for a while now. He was/is a quality player and I knew I wouldn't be able to replace him with someone of equal quality, but 275K was too much to turn down for a right back in our financial situation, got the potential to go up to 500K in clauses and that.

Timothy Agu was the best RB I could get in to replace/cover with Qasmi, he's not great but he'll do. Ilyes Chaibi is a striker, he's chipped in with a couple of goals but whether he will continue as first choice remains to be seen. Samuel Ally is a CB, at a first glance at our fixtures you'd have probably assumed he was a striker, he's got 3 goals in 7 games, his 16 heading coming in handy! Jean-Jacques Boumai was signed to add a bit of depth to CM and CAM. Mattheo Marchand to add depth to DC/DM/MC and finally ex-Arsenal man himself Nacer Barazite to provide competition for CAM, he's only made 1 sub appearance so far though as he got injured in first match.

We've yet again progressed through the first two rounds of the Coupe de la Ligue, under very jammy circumstances I will admit. A penalty shoot out victory after a very uneventful game with Bastia, and then a 1-0 win in extra time over FC Istres who finished the match with 10 men, had 1 player sent off on the 70th minute and then another hobbled off with an injury in the 104th minute - would've been pissed if we still hadn't got the win :D

3 wins, 3 draws and 2 losses from our first 8 league games isn't terrible form and isn't terribly good either. We've not really found a consistent goal scorer and i'm actually struggling to pick 2 strikers to start, Sambague hasn't been assisting like last season and Diallo hasn't stepped up in the same way he did last season either.

401ab97053f403880d0e661cefcd4d4c.png

We sit 10th place but I feel like its almost worthless looking at the league table so early into the season as this league is so open it can all change in a few games anyway.

Oh and...

My Chairman is looking to step down, it doesn't appear to be anything exciting as rumour has it a director will take over, but if it results in some of the debt being cleared then its certainly win win :D Just hope i'm not sacked!

Went out to Ligue 1 opposition once again in the Coupe de la Ligue, losing 2-1 to Evian TG. Got an easy draw in the French Cup, only managed to win 1-0 which was a bit scary, serves me right for putting a heavily weakened team of youth/fringe players out! 3 wins, 3 draws and 2 losses in the league, the highlight definitely being the comeback win against Valenciennes, we'd been 2-0 up, looked like we blew it to 3-2 but then pulled it back to win 4-3 late on.

This run of games now puts us in 9th place, 5 points off the 3rd place we'd need to gain promotion. Lost more games than I would have liked at this stage but the league does look the weakest i've seen it so far in relation to teams that are significantly stronger than us, we were comfortably better than Havre last season and finished a place above Chamois Niortais and neither of those teams particularly scare me. LEMANSFC the main threat, the 3 that came down from Ligue 1 - Stade de Reims, Metz and Dijon have all started the season terribly and don't look like Ligue 1 quality sides which is massively beneficial in our promotion bid.

Our cup run was ended by Ligue 1 opposition once more, this time Bastia, was really gutting since we were actually 2-0 up then blew it late on, held out for penalties, thought we could do it cause don't think i've lost a shoot-out yet but it wasn't to be. Elsewhere in the league we've actually been doing pretty well, Diallo's stepped up once again and its no surprise that his improvement in form has seen an improvement in our team. 4 wins, 3 draws and just the 1 loss to Auxuerre in our last 8 league games. As our transfer budget retain percentage is so low despite getting that money in from Jardin's clause fee and a new chairman, we still didn't really have all that much to spend, we did need another striker though even just for rotation due to injuries, so Cesar Pavon a young Spanish striker from Atletico Madrid's C team was signed on loan - in his first game for the club he scored a brace to help us beat Nice 3-2.

0ed00218c53b58bfe0245d5bb008098d.png

The loss to Auxerre proved slightly costly but we're only 7 points off even the top spot, and Auxerre aside, we still have games against every other team that is above us, so it is in our hands if you look at it like that.

A pretty good run of form late into the season, 5 wins (including 4 in a row), 1 draw and 2 losses. Both 3-1 losses were very disappointing for different reasons, the 3-1 loss to Havre was bad as they're one of our main rivals for promotion, by beating us they've basically guaranteed promotion and since they're 10 points clear with 6 games to go they've pretty much gone up as champions barring a horrendous choke. The loss to US Concarneau was disappointing because whilst they're not thaaat bad its really a game we should at least be coming away with a draw from. Loan signing Cesar Pavon had a fantastic spell of form which saw him win Ligue 2 Player of the Month, when I noticed his contract was up at the end of the season I wasted no time in getting him to sign on.

As for the league table...

3ee88533e99513cf70c23a64a743049b.png

Its tight. Very tight. Our last 6 games are by no means easy, but we play the 3 teams currently underneath us so at least its in our hands, if we can beat them then we can go up, pretty simple really. Our fixture list is:

CS Sedan Ardennes (A)

Chamois Niortais (H)

AS Nancy-Lorraine (A)

FC Lorient (H)

Clermont Foot (A)

Stade Brestois (H)

I'd usually take a point away from home against either CS Sedan Ardennes and Clermont Foot, but i'm not sure if we can afford to do so. Chamois Niortais we should be beating at home, would be gutting to lose it, I guess I would take a draw usually but in this late run in for promotion I don't think we can afford to just in case. FC Lorient and Stade Brestios are two must win games, both not great and at home, anything less than 6 points from those two and we probably don't deserve to go up. AS Nancy Lorraine away again isn't the easiest of games and usually a draw wouldn't be a disaster but i'm not sure how many games we can afford to drop points in. I think we need to win in at least 2 of the 3 games against the sides just below us, draw the other one, then beat FC Lorient and Stade Brestois then maybe a draw against AS Nancy-Lorraine would be enough to go up. 14 points from 18, easier said than done though right? :D I think realistically though anything less than 12 points and we probably wont make it, we can probably only afford to lose one game. Losing two out of the 6 would be pretty bad and losing 3 is an unthinkable disaster at this point, hopefully I haven't jinxed it!

Pau FC - Season 9: 2023/24 Ligue 2

Really not promotion form material in our last 6 games but despite losing 3 we still managed to go up and finish 2nd. The 4-0 win over Chamois Niortais was a big win especially as we'd just lost to CS Sedan Ardennes, we did go into the game against Stade Brestois having to win after failing to get anything from our game against Clermont Foot, but it ended up being a pretty comfortable victory. Ultimately as I said in a previous update the quality in this league this year was pretty poor really, we weren't great this season nor as good/consistent as I would have liked but the rest were just as poor/worse which resulted in us getting to go up.

Transfers

Only notable departure was Rojas to Tours FC, was a first team player that could have made the step up to Ligue 1 probably but at the time cheaper replacements were easy to come by and we needed the money really. Timothy Agu came in on a free to replace him and did well enough. Chaibi was a decent rotation/back-up striker, Marchand was a decent rotation/back-up CB/DM but i'm not sure how happy he is to sit on the bench long term. Samuel Ally came in and did a great job at CB, Jean-Jacques Boumal did well as a first team/rotation CM/CAM option. Nacer Barazite turned out to be a waste of a signing really, was very rarely fit and did pretty **** whenever he did play. Cesar Pavon the loan signing in January was great when fit, was signed on a BOSMAN/free and will be with us again next season.

Squad pt 1, Squad pt 2 =61590018&filters[recent]=1&sort=1&o=3"]

Moussa Diallo was once again the stand out player, the 21 year old managed 10 assists and 20 goals from 42 starts, he also bagged himself numerous end of season awards including Ligue 2 Player of the Year. Cesar Pavon came in on loan from Atletico Madrid C and did a great job, ending up with 9 goals and 5 assists from 14 games, as said above we've secured him on a free transfer for next season. Bebeto Basilua and new signing Samuel Ally had decent seasons at CB. Abderrahmane Aichour did well at CM, as did his Algerian compatriot Ahcene Ziane at LB. Alpha Mbaye had another injury hit season, but did manage 11 goals and 4 assists from his 29 appearances, only 20 of them actual starts.

Finances

They don't look great at the moment but when all the Ligue 1 money kicks in we should be fine.

Ligue 1 Expectations

I'm not really too sure what to expect from Ligue 1 really, we've never beaten a Ligue 1 side in a cup competition but we have given a couple of them very close scares a few times. My main concern is how weak Ligue 2 was this season and that we could potentially found out a lot even by mid-table/relegation battling sides even when we do strengthen in the summer. Since the game started PSG have won 9 of the 11 titles, with Lyon and Monaco both getting one each. I expect to be outclassed by those 3 sides, PSG especially, but hoping we can avoid regular high losses to any other sides in the division.

One other cause for concern is our stadium. Our capacity is 13,966 with just 7,166 of this being seated. Ligue 1 regulations state that the minimum Stadium Seating capacity is 17,000 - our entire ground doesn't even cover that, let alone our seating capacity :D I assume long term they're going to have to build a new stadium as I can't see us being able to expand the stadium to the point of having 17,000 seats, perhaps they can but I think long term we're going to be in a new stadium. Obviously we'll be in Ligue 1 so can expect higher crowds but we actually only averaged even this season a crowd of 3,802 - we only managed 7,392 when we were drawn at home to Marseille in the French Cup last year and that's by far our record crowd. I assume we'll be ground sharing with another club that has a stadium that big in the mean time, the most logical one geographically would surely be Bordeaux - although who knows what might happen. That definitely seems like the most likely option though.=61590018&filters[recent]=1&sort=1&o=16"]

Algeria U20: 4 Caps, 0 Goals

Summary: Decent enough season, didn't feature as regularly this season due to better alternatives - in Ligue 1 I can see him appearing even less and being much more of a back-up player. I'm not sure how happy/patient he'll be about this.

Summary: His versatility saw him feature a bit this season, primarily at RB. I don't see a long term future for him here as anything apart from rotation/back-up, i'm happy to keep him as a utility player if he's happy to not play that often.

Others

  • Lillian Gauthier saw 2 starts in the cup and 1 sub appearance in the league, not sure if he'll make it even as a back-up player, he's at that kind of age where he'll want to start playing regularly and unless I can sort a loan out he wont be.
  • Mamadou Diouf is somehow still here, 2 more appearances for him this season but he will finally be off on a free transfer in the summer.
  • Yanis Bats continued to be an emergency back-up/utility man, making just 1 sub appearance all season.
  • Armel Kabasele saw a start in the cup, he's replaced Bastian Bonnell as the most promising CAM in the Academy, still not thaaat great though.
  • Patrick Yidikes saw one sub appearance in the French Cup, he's got some nice stats and could potentially make it here in midfield.

Alumni

  • Vincent Jardin played 10 times for Olympiakos this season, scoring twice and getting 4 assists. They then listed him for loan in January and despite my interest he went to Ligue 1 side Bordeaux instead, who only gave him 3 games ffs. Who knows what will be in store for Jardin next year, will Olympiakos finally start using him regularly? Another Ligue 1 loan? Maybe a return to Pau finally?
  • Sami Denis is still playing regularly for Genets Anglet in the CFA

Well that explains that then. I'm a little confused by what our maximum capacity will be during the 12 months the expansion is being made.

061963f31803b167d0281f39d58d8353.png

So i'm not sure if this means during the work we'll have 11,725 - 2,241 which would be - 9,484. Or if Ligue 1 only lets you have seating, in which case it would be 5,877 - 2,241 which would mean 3,636 as our maximum capacity - despite this barely being different to our average attendance last season we will still lose a **** load of money from lost gate receipts if we're only able to have 3,636 people at our games this season.

Pretty damning odds :D

A quick look at the transfers that I have made, forgot to take one before my first set of games so will have to show them as they appear after our first 8 league games.

c2110c7ecc7c4bbc3d95b11d5da7f652.png

The only notable departure was El Hadji Douchier who was my first choice GK, he was very good and could have made the step up to Ligue 1 but he'd refused to sign a contract extension all season and even despite our promotion he left on a free transfer which was annoying - what made me laugh was he ended up at a Ligue 2 team on less wages than he was on here, let alone the ridiculous 12K he was asking for to renew.

Cesar Pavon joined on a free after his loan spell last season. He was joined by two more Spanish players, central midfielder Javier Galan from Bilbao's B team for £125K and Juan Jose a central defender who joined from Sporting for 550K. Louis Souchaud is our new first choice Goalkeeper arriving for 450K from Jura-Sud, he got injured in pre-season so he's literally only just made his debut. Makan Traore joined from Tours for 80K as back-up LB to Ziane.Haykeul Chikhaoui joined from ES Viry Foot for 600K to add depth at CAM, he's featured regularly due to injuries to Moussa Diallo. Jamal Thiare signed from Valenciennes for just under £1M to be a first choice striker, but due to unforeseen circumstances he hasn't played as regularly as I imagined. Finally we needed a better RB so Mauro Fontanella joined us on a free transfer. Not got time to post a review of my first results/table at the moment, its not been all bad news though

That is my main complaint about this game across the last several versions - players who demand huge wages and then sign for another club for much less... I'd rather see that fixed than have coaching badges as the rest.

yeah it is quite irritating, I think they're trying to find the middle ground between that happening and what happened in previous games where loads of good players would retire after being released due to refusing to drop their wage demands. I think that the players shouldn't demand a huge increase unless either other players of similar importance/quality to the team are on that kind of money, or other clubs that would potentially offer that kind of money are interested, otherwise it doesn't really make that much sense in them wanting big money when there's no guarantee they'd get it elsewhere.

Not the worst start that I could have imagined with 1 win, 4 draws and 3 losses. The highlight of the season was probably Jardin scoring to put us 1-0 up against PSG, was just a shame we couldn't hold out and ended up losing, but only losing by 1 goal against a team that good is still pretty good for our first season. You'd think the highlight would be our first win in Ligue 1 over AS Saint-Ettienne, but considering we were 5-0 up at one point, it said a lot about our defence that we still managed to almost not win the game. Jardin and Pavon have both been scoring and we've not done too badly against the better sides.

We're not in too bad a position considering we've only won 1 game, getting the draw instead of losing against CS Sedan Arennes has helped us massively and I think as long as we can win against the other sides battling against relegation we can probably survive.

I've worked out that they seem to be letting us use our standing section, so our capacity is around 11,600 ish. We've been averaging between 11,000 and 11,500 so far, PSG saw 11,518 so i'm assuming that's capacity or at least the most we'll get in this season as I can't see any other team drawing more fans than PSG. Perhaps Bordeaux might as they're a lot closer to us geographically so maybe they'l bring more away fans, but as I said i'm sure capacity is like 11,600 so would only maybe see a few 50 or more maybe. PSG also saw us smash our gate receipts record getting in £240K's worth.

1 win, 3 draws and 4 losses from our latest 8 league games. Not the greatest of form, but this run of games did see a fantastic 6-2 home win over Toulouse in the Coupe de la Ligue, really not sure where that came from really. Our other win looks like a surprise in the sense that it was over Bordeuax but tbh they don't seem like they're that great this season anyway and might actually be fighting with us to avoid relegation. The amount of goals we leak especially in games we go ahead in is quite irritating, as against Evian TG we were at one stage 4-0 up, so to end up drawing it 4-4 was really frustrating. Goal scoring isn't all that big a problem as in our last 4 league games we've scored at least twice in each game, but have failed to win any of them and only got a point from 1 of them. I'm a bit worried that if I fiddle with my tactic to make us more defensive then it will cut out goals from our game, and that I might be better off just hoping we can outscore teams an get points that way. The 5-2 against OM probably will go down as the worst result as again we were actually 2-0 up at one point so to lose 5-2 was very gutting.

A very good run of form has seen us win 4, lose 3 and draw 1, weird really to see us drawing so few games! We managed to reach the quarter final of the Coupe de la Ligue after a surprise penalty shoot-out victory at Marseille, probably our best win to date. We made it to a penalty shoot-out in the quarter final against Lille but sadly lost that one. We've also made it to the quarter final of the French Cup after a penalty shoot-out victory over Clermont Foot, then a 2-1 win over Tours FC which was somewhat unexpected, as you can see we then got a dream draw against French CFA side Olympique Noisy (no idea how they were still in the competition at such a late stage, although we did need a very late Karim Amroune winner to see them off.

Elsewhere in the league saw a big surprise victory over Lyon, a massive 6 pointer win against CS Sedan Ardennes and a fantastic 3-1 victory over Lille that was also unexpected despite beating them in the the Coupe de la Ligue. We've drawn FC Nantes at home in the French Cup Quarter Final so i'm not expecting to get past them as they're probably the 3rd best team in the country behind PSG and Monaco. Maybe we can hold them to a 1-1 or a 2-2 and beat them on penalties :D

A couple of surprise victories and the massive 6 pointer over CS Sedan Ardennes actually sees us in a "relatively" comfortable position at the moment. We do have a tough run of games coming up though, the games we play against Evian and Amiens will turn into absolute must wins if we want to stay up imo.

Think its quite clear what needs addressing before I talk about league form. A surprising 3-1 victory at home to FC Nantes saw us progress to the Semi Final of the French Cup, we got a tough draw away to ESTAC Troyes and have done something that at the start of the season I would have though unthinkable - we've only gone and made the final! We've been lucky to have got this far in the competition without having to play PSG and Monaco, and we've got luckier as in the final we will play AS Saint Ettiene, a great team in their own right, but one we have already beaten this season! I'm not expecting a win in the final, but I wasn't expecting a win in the last 2 rounds and we pulled it out the bag. A win in the final would be unreal.

Elsewhere, in the league we've won 3 games, drawn 1 and lost 4. Not the best form but with 6 games to go we have an 8 point advantage on 18th at the moment, it would be very unlucky for us to go down now, but it is worth noting every game we will play is against a team currently above us. As you can see from my results goals haven't been a problem, its just the defence that is a bit of a let down every now and then. Biggest disappointment was letting Evian put 4 past us and beat us, PSG beating us 5-1 wasn't pleasant either, a game in which a 38 year old Luis Suarez got 2 in. Look at his mental stats though ffs. Unreal :D You wouldn't it but believe PSG have 3 strikers considerably better than him as well!

Slight **** up there with the table but yeah its looking pretty decent, we should be okay.
