'Arte et Marte' - Forged in the furnace of Non-League - Proven in the Premier League

Recommended Posts

do you keep the mentality on attacking all the time or would you change this depending how the game is going? i prefer to play FMC and use instant result mostly so i can blast through the seasons quickly, so what i want to know is should i use a match plan or not bother?

cheers

I leave on attacking. You could drop it down to control late on to protect lead.

I don't use FMC so I don't know how it works. Not sure how effective tactics are on instant result.

Does it take long for the tactic to bed in? I've played 11 + 3 friendlies and I havent experienced a great deal of success. I'm playing with Limerick FC and its about as low as low league goes, havent got great players but I thought this tactic would be ideal. I'm using team cohesion and intensity as very high for the training with match day main focus on def positioning.

Is there any tips to help me turn it around and make it more of a success?

Started with sunday league experience, which makes it harder to get good players.

To add to this, players respond well to my team talks and I havent won a game in 6

Early season I tend to draw a lot of games. Normally still working towards full tactical familiarity and new players blending in.

I would use 'attacking movement.

If results aren't great, ride it out. At the end of the season you should have exceeded/met your expectations.

I've now given it a full season with the updated set pieces, we won everything and came 4th in the league, started the new season even stronger and storming ahead after 12 matches already, easily your best tactic yet

Thanks for the feedback. This is with Norwich right?

My Tonbridge save is still going well, in the Championship now and are 12th in my first season at the moment. I've kept my League 1 team together so I can rake some cash in this season and strengthen massively for next season and push for the Prem.

I'm not big on training as my facilities are pants and I move up the leagues quicker than my players develop.

Here's what i do.

General = 2 weeks Fitness pre-season. Then 2 months on Team Blend.(very important) Then 'Balanced' all season.

Match = Tactics till fully fluid then leave on attacking movement.

Slider- Maximum match training until tactic is fully fluid then half way.

Once again thanks a lot for that, just starting a new game with Leeds, I will let you know how I get on :)

Yes this is with Norwich, now unbeaten in this current season after 19 games, won 16, drawn 3 scored 38 and conceded just 8, already 9 points clear of 2nd place, this tactic seems to get better over time.

i am playing as Slavia Mozyr in the Belarussian Highest League. 1st season came 6th predicted 12th. 2nd season now sitting 9th but only played 5 matches so still hoping. I am experiencing a lot of penalties and red cards though..what can i do about it?

There's nothing in the tactic which would cause this.

They tend to come in 'runs', just ride it out!

OK, finally made it to the Premier League.

New stadium on the way, money troubles are over making £2m profit a month. Time to build up the club.

Progress since using this tactic. Not changed for 1 second of any game.

Like clockwork, promotion, consolidate then promotion again.

I've lurked on these forums and downloaded dozens of tactics over the years but this tactic has finally compelled me to write.

I started a game with an updated database with Blackpool to see if I could keep them up when starting with a squad of 8 - I couldn't! I was sacked but started using this tactic toward the end of the season and noticed an upturn in results. I took over Coventry City who had just been relegated to League 2, no money and still ground sharing at Northampton. I used the player attributes suggested and was predicted mid-table I believe. I won the league by 16 points, scoring 89 and conceding 31. I was looking for a season of consolidation in League 1 but with a mainly new team (no budget to renew contracts) but won the league by 11 points, scoring 82 and conceding 41. So on to the Championship. Worth mentioning that so far I'd spent £90k, which includes 6 freebies brought in for the Championship season, and recouped just over £6m . My wage bill was the 23rd highest and I was predicted to struggle. I finished second, 2pts behind Aston Villa - to put this in perspective their wage bill was £40m+ for the year, mine was less than £3m. Premier League football and back to the Ricoh Arena - I really splashed the cash, shelling out £3.85m on 8 new signings to try and stay in the league. My wage bill increased to around £9m - £19m less than the next lowest and lower than 16 Championship teams.

Heavy favourites for relegation we started with started with Arsenal, Wolves, Liverpool and Man City - no problems!! We beat Wolves, lost the away game to Liverpool but picked up very creditable 0-0's with City and Arsenal. We had a terrific season highlights included a 4-1 win at Newcastle, a home draw with Man United (1-1) and beating Spurs 3-0 (I'm a Gooner!) and ended up finishing 7th with 57 points and our Keeper coming 3rd in the Golden Gloves.

I'm now coming toward the end of the second Premier League season - comfortable in mid-table with an FA Cup semi-final to come - I've still got a positive net spend and the lowest wage bill in the league by around £5m per annum.

The tactic has been completely plug and play, I've occasionally changed to Overload when needing a goal but its been hit and miss, same with going to balanced and control when leading.

Excellent tactic for someone like me who has limited time to play and cannot tinker too much with tactics etc

Interesting that you're scoring a lot more goals than me. I think as you've moved through the divisions your team was probably stronger than my Tonbridge team at the equivalent stage.

That's very encouraging as the one thing that bothers me is that I feel we don't score enough goals.

As the caliber of players improves relative to the level your at it looks like goal scoring will pick up a lot.

Now i'm in the Prem I'm working on 'Elite Level' versions of the player roles which should really take the tactic to another level.

I'm seeking to achieve parity with the top teams in the division over the next 3 years before becoming utterly dominant.

I think this can only be achieved with the combination of a solid tactic and 'specialist' players to get the maximum out of the tactic.

Goals dried up in the BPL - 41 in the second season finishing 13th. Decided to quit Coventry - this save was always planned to be a 'journeyman' one - looking to go overseas. Ended up at Leicester! 15th in championship when I took over, top by the end of January. Tactic became fluid very quickly and I have some good players for the level.

Full-backs and the AMC seem to be the main men - judged purely on who performs well when we win, i'm sure you've got some better insight! AMC who is a striker seems to outperform specialist AMC - strangely a 33 year old Steven Naismith is doing well for me. Attacking full-backs chip in lots of assists and goals ,I've briefly experimented with a winger in one of the fullback positions but this seemed ineffective. Would like to try a winger with half decent defensive attributes retrained as a fullback in the future.

I've also used this tactic in another game with a friend starting with QPR on an updated database so they are in the Prem. 5 games in and yet to conceded but only scored a couple - attack at the top level might be where adjustments are needed (or just better players!)

Yeah, a goal scoring AMC is key.

Just signed AMR/AML to retrain as FBR/FBL. Look for high dribbling, crossing, finishing + 10 tackling so you're not completely neglecting defensive.

Signed them in Jan, i'm in the relegation zone so lets see if they can save me.

All my back 6 are rated as 'Championship' standard so I cant be too hard on the tactic, but if i get relegated i'll consider it a failure. To be fair, playing well but getting shafted. We'll see.

I've looked but what do you mean when you say Slider?

Also - what pitch size do you use?

I started a new game with Limerick FC again and as a part time team wanted to see how the tactic would work out. Tactic wasnt full fluid for the whole season, hoping this changes next season so my training was set to team cohesion for most of the season with tempo very heavy.

I played 47, won 22, drew 6 and lost 19 matches. Biggest win was 6-1 and biggest loss was 5-1

Max pitch size.

The 'slider' is the bar in the middle of your team training screen which determines how much you focus on general or match training.

Well, I actually got relegated from the Prem.

I thought it would be a battle but i still didn't expect to be relegated.

All is not lost, I didn't get sacked, i've a new stadium, £50m in the bank and a deadly squad for the Championship so i'll be straight back up.

I can't really blame the tactic too much, was 13th in November, got some bad luck and stuck in a spiral of low morale and poor form which we couldn't break. I think if I ran the season again it could be quite different.

However, on one level the tactic failed, so its time for a new one.

As much as I enjoy grinding out results i've been thinking it would be more fun to have a more attacking tactic, i've built one and are aiming for immediate promotion out of the Championship with Tonbridge with 100+ league goals scored without being wide open at the back. We'll see how it goes.

Yeah I am P/T which is a right PITA. I'm stuck in a low morale/bad luck spiral in my second season, the tactic is encouraging but my players are crap for the most part. Added to having no money and probably the smallest budget in the league it doesnt make it any easier. Out of 27 matches so far (8 friendlies) I've only won 5 matches, drawn 8 and lost 14. No idea where I'm going wrong only that we tend to concede late on in the matches when we have been 2-1 up. We dont concede much in the matches which is a positive.

Ok as hinted at earlier, it was time to put a fresh attacking tactic into play.

CKl4mC3.png

Promotion and 120 league goals to boot. Satisfied with that. Albeit with a pretty strong team.

I will benchmark it with Man City and if its any good and anyone wants it i'll put it up.

A few people on FM Base asked me to put the tactic up as well, its a long weekend and they could get a good session in.

Only fair i do the same here.

OK, if anyone wants to test it over the weekend its here......

Formation

XnDyFzQ.png

Attack Minded as you can see, Full backs overlapping inside forwards, supported by the Enganche & Target Man.

In my save both Inside Forwards, the Enganche & Target Man got 20+ goals each.

We retain a 'box' defence comprising 2 Cb's & 2 Anchors to provide cover.

If its popular i'll start a new thread with player guides etc.

Let me have some feedback!

Well I had a good of sorts season with me winning more matches and my win ratio increased by 3% although I finished up 2 places lower than where i finished last season. It did take a lot longer for the tactic to become fluid for some reason. I'm going to give it a second season and hope for some better luck. A lot of our matches, we didnt have a lot of chances or shots on goal but ended up winning despite the other team having far more shots etc. And a lot of our matches ended up, us being unlucky. I really hope for a better season next season.

Looking forward to see your new thread with "morning star". Did any changes ?

Believe it or not i've consigned that to the scrap heap and are going down a different route.

Its good, very good when its hot but a bit 'streaky' in my opinion. I'm after something mega consistent.

Those 'out of the blue' defeats when your team don't show up for some reason really wind me up, after something that can still get a result even in 'those' games.

Got something that's looking really good, high scoring as well.

Oh please do share. Those games wreck my head particularly when it happens with weaker teams

EDIT: Ended up missing out on first place, lost to champions, but on the whole it was a good season as we finished 3rd after an expected 8th but looking to try out your new tactic!

Got something cooking, had to write off a few really promising tactics as they had that mid season slump i'm trying to get around.

You need to run a tactic for a full season to see what its made of which is time consuming.

Current tactic has a real solid quality about it but i'm not into jan/feb yet when things often go pear shaped....... fingers crossed.

Player Attributes

Will elaborate further when i have time

Defensive Forwards - Finishing, Composure, Work Rate, Team Work

First 2 are obvious, these guys are still strikers. Work Rate to ensure they get across the pitch closing down and denying time and space to opponents. Team Work, getting big on this. The forward play from the Germany/Brazil game. Having an opportunity to shoot but seeing a team mate in a far better position and unselfishly playing them in. This is what we want.

Attacking Midfield - Finishing, Composure, Passing, Team Work

I view this guy as more of a goal scorer than creator. Maybe 60/40. In my Tonbridge save he was my leading scorer. He will often be our most advanced player. A Striker with partial familiarity with the AMC position would be a good candidate for re-training. The Attributes should be self explanatory.

Deep Lying Playmaker - Passing, Marking, Work Rate, Creativity

I Used Yaya Toure for City. Pretty much the archetype for this role. Good blend of attacking and defensive attributes. AMC/MC's with good defensive qualities can be good options for re-training. Get the best passer you can.

Anchor - Marking, Tackling, Positioning, Passing

First 3 should be obvious. With the attacking/fluid combo even our anchor likes to get involved in building and supporting attacks. He will see a lot of the ball. We don't want a weak passer here.

Wingbacks - Work Rate, Stamina, Acceleration, Crossing

That list of attributes could easily be extended, just get the best you can. If they can finish all the better.

Centre Backs - Jumping Reach, Marking, Tackling, Positioning

Nothing fancy required here. Just good, solid defenders. Put the quickest one in the middle of the 3.

GoalKeepers - Aerial Ability, Reflexes, One on One's, Concentration

Use you scout reports, get the best you can ensuring they are not weak in any of the above areas.

Mr Rosler, I rely on plug and play and just wondered about the above, do you look for players with only these four attributes at the levels you have mentioned?

Nice tactic. Used it to get promoted out of the Skrill Premier with Altrincham.

Got promoted from the Skrill North to the Premier in my first season and had been consistent since going up without being able to properly push on. Had finishes of 11th, 9th then 10th twice and picked up a couple of FA Trophy wins which had allowed the club to turn pro before trying this out.

Ended up on 90 points and in 2nd place having scored 86 and conceded 48. Only just missed out on winning the division by 1 point after some poor form towards the end of the season.

Scraped through the play-off semis 3-2 after winning the away leg 3-0, then went all the way to a shoot-out in the play-off final after they equalised in the last minute of extra time. My 16 year-old central defender smashed the winning penalty into the top corner as I took the shootout 5-4. League 2 here we come!

Thank you for this but i was wondering do you still have match prep at balanced after its fully fluid and attacking movement or do you do it the way you did with one of your earlier tactics where you did defence positioning for so many months then def set pieces and so on

This is still working nicely for me. Got 3 successive promotions with Altrincham from the Skrill Premier to The Championship all via the playoffs. Made a decent start in The Championship too with 10 points from 5 games and have kept 4 clean sheets.

Tweaked it slightly defensively here and there along the way. After promotion to League 2 I strated telling the wingbacks to ease of tackles. The last straw was having a player suspended for the first 3 games of the season for collecting 15 yellow cards the prior season and his replacement geting sent off for two yellows on his debut. They still get booked a lot, but not quite as much.

Another tweak I've implemented is changing the DCs from Defend-Cover-Defend to Cover-Defend-Cover, and I sometimes even put the middle guy as a stopper. With the full backs pushing on so much I was conceding too may similar goals for my liking where the ball would be played into space behind them and an opposing winger could get a shot off (similar to how the wing backs sometimes score for my team in this system). Don't get me wrong, still had a good defensive record, I was just getting tired of seeing the same sort of goal being scored against my team when we did let one in. Having the DCL and DCR on Cover, they seem to be better at that stopping that sort of thing and filling in the space behind the wingbacks when they're caught upfield. I think it's futher improved the defensive record slightly too but it's hard to say.

Anyway, overall still really liking this tactic!
