hi everyone- i am trying this challenge out with a french team. i am currently holidaying so i have to wait but i was wondering if anyone has completed this challenge yet?

not this one yet... that is mainly due to the slow take-up of the challenge by players. i'm sure it is 'winnable' but no one has progressed far enough yet.

yes - there's normally around 8 new teams promoted every year as there are 3 leagues at bottom level.....

Eder is a pretty decent player for the lower leagues in my game, which is now in late 2012.... decent loan signing that.

yeah i got Napoli for a parent club but their youngsters are rubbish.

is it that you think they look rubbish because of their attributes, or are your scouts saying they're rubbish.

what formation are you playing by the way?

I am playing same formation Chelsea usually play like a 4-3-3 with the two wingers in support of the lone striker.

and the attributes are rubbish and the scouts say they are as well. do you know any goalkeepers that are decent?

off the top of my head, not really... i signed a GK first season called "bastiera" who was alright. you need to get your scouts out scouting continuously, especially in Europe if you are able to. i could scout Central Europe and i continually find players of a high quality willing to sign.

Well, better late than never, here is my report from the first season as manager of the Lamas. Despite having a big wagebudget and Porto as parent club we didn´t play well at all. A 1-8 loss in the first game set the tone immediately and despite eventually getting a 6th place and through to the promotion stage I was sacked after three games without a win (in the promotion stage).

Table: http://ulfjohansson.webs.com/fm/table.png

What now? Give Portugal another try or go and join the club in Italy?

i've got to say that looks really unlucky..... were the expectations really high? what were your overall feelings about Portugal? is it a good place to manage?

as for where to go next, if you enjoyed Portugal could always try again... Italy is popular, so could give that a go. any thoughts about trying Spain?

(it's good to see people still playing games in this challenge.....)

The expectations were very high. The board wanted the club to be established in the Liga Vitalis in four years. Getting promoted from the second division though is very difficult since there are only two teams from four groups that gain promotion. Despite that I enjoyed it a lot. I will probably go to Spain and try my luck there.

How are your progress in the challenge?

it does sound like a tough league...

as for Como, going ok at the moment. on a little break as doing the North/South challenge, which will take another few days. then i will be back in Italy. good luck in spain if you have a go there.....

After a very nice holiday in Spain I choose Cacereño because of their sweet green colour and because expectations are to stay up in the Second Division B.

No staff and no players except a few young players but a decent stadium that takes 9000 is my starting point.

Registration rules are tougher (only 22 players) but there are two more promotion spots if you compare with the Portuguese second division.

If I can find any decent players I think this could be fun.

i had a brief stint as them!! got some quite awful fantasy kits made too.... :D good luck. the registration thing isn't as bad as looks. players registered in other squads can still play for the main team, so don't fret too much about it. good luck and enjoy!!

I just restarted this challenge as TSV Aindling. Again in Germany, as I really like the league, but this time with team that's a little less ambitious. This should give me the chance to build up a squad slowely.

some info (as TSV Aindling isn't exactly a household name)

The club was founded in 1946 as Turn- und Sportverein Aindling-Todtenweis and in 1956 merged with TSV Pichl.

The clubs first rose out of Schwaben area football in 1982 when they won the Bezirksliga Schwaben-Nord and were promoted to the Landesliga Bayern-Süd (V) where they made an immediate impact with a second-place finish. They took part in a promtion playoff for the Bayernliga (IV) promotion play-off but failed to advance and were eventually relegated to the Bezirksoberliga Schwaben (V). The club again gained promotion from the Bezirksoberliga to the Landesliga Bayern-Süd (V) in 1992 on the strength of a second place finish. A second place result at that level in 1996 then earned the team promotion to the Oberliga Bayern (IV) where they still play today, generally earning mid-table results.

TSV qualified for play in the DFB-Pokal (German Cup) in 2003 and 2004, but went out early on both occasions against Bundesliga sides. In 2003, they won the Bavarian Cup with a 14-0 victory over TSV Gerbrunn and made a losing appearance in the next year's final versus Jahn Regensburg II.

I'll try to update you all on my progress every two months (in-game off course), as this thread could use some bumping.

*Is it possible to get some hotlinks in the reply window? It's tiresome to have to type out the code every time.

good luck freek_teek. hopefully you'll have a little more luck this time.

this thread does need a bit of a bump - i've not been able to play my Como save for a week and a half, as i have been doing a stint on the Wallace/Roberts challenge, but i've just finished that so i should be back on this a bit more now!

i actually started on this one week ago. im playing in germany and holidayed to 2009 for new teams in the regional divisions. i tried getting a team from south germany preferably in bavaria and ended up taking over the mighty SG Quelle Fürth.

http://img137.imageshack.us/my.php?image=profilecy1.jpg

http://img47.imageshack.us/my.php?image=startoverviewkl8.jpg

http://img168.imageshack.us/my.php?image=startsgfrthclubinfogd1.jpg

the wage budget was quite tiny at 5.25k and there were no players or staff there to begin with except 5 fresh regens. one of which looked quite impressive for this leagues standard:

http://img513.imageshack.us/my.php?image=startmichaelmichaelro5.jpg

micheal micheal(strange name huh) had stats that ridiculed most of the strikers i was able to attract but being only 15 at the start he wasnt allowed to play until the second half of the season.

being not used to managing at this bottom level i wasnt very convinced by most of the freebies i could attract and foolishly thought rather than signing crappy players i would play the greyed out players at my disposal and look out for a few not-as-crappy players. that was a very grave mistake but losing the first match of the season 1-7 against stuttgarts reserve team woke me up and although i went on to lose the next 4 games on the trot the freebies+loans i got in after the first few matches were able to turn things around slowly. it took quite long but then after 15 matches we managed to leave the relegation zone for the first time by beating the previously in 14th sitting halle 5-1: http://img385.imageshack.us/my.php?image=frth5halle1ik3.jpg

then shortly after half the season was gone:

http://img379.imageshack.us/my.php?image=halfthroughseasontablebq6.jpg

there apparently is a 2 months winter break in the regional division so i arranged a few friendlies to keep the team fit and generate some additional money.

the second half of the season started slow again but not quite as bad as the fist half Michael Michael was finally allowed to play a bit and got a fair few apps and loan signing Rainer Hampf picked up some terrific form after regaining his fitness after a 1 month injury. after beating then 2nd Saarbrücken we were save with 5 games to go.

http://img131.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sgf21fcsnu2.jpg

in the end we finished the season 9th avoiding relegation far more comfortable then i had expected after a horror start.

I think the links work like this: [ URL=blabla.jpg]name[ /URL] (without the spaces, not sure about the quotation marks)

Great season if_my_dream, I find that the teams promoting from 2009 onwards are really struggeling to keep up with the other teams.

Nice to see someone else taking on Germany too.

Good luck

As promised, a little more on our championship win. i will do a full end of season review soon, but in the meantime....

in the end, the win wasn't as easy as it should have been. after 29 games, i was 8 points clear with a game in hand, which would have seen me 11 points clear with 4 games left. We lost this game, and then proceeded to lose the next 2 also (one after i was banned from the touchline for referee abuse... ;) )

therefore with two games to go, my lead had been cut to 3 poinsts. we managed to win our first game in 4, which saw us home.

So Como return to Serie B after only one season back in Serie C1. i do feel that we will be better equipped this time, having managed to shore up our defence somewhat. hopefully i can establish myself as a Serie B club next season, before pushing on for the 'promised land' of Serie A.....

to complete Como's most successful season in recent history, we have added the Serie C1 Super Cup to our trophy cabinet. (i had forgotten about this cup....)

losing 2-1 away at San Marino in the first leg, we returned to the Giuseppe Sinigaglia to 'thrash' our opponents 5-0, to win 6-2 on aggregate.

all being well i should be able to do the season review in the next 24 hours...

Como - Serie C1A - End of Season Review - 2012/13

Media Prediction: 4th

Final Position: 1st

League Table

League Graph

So, as mentioned previously, Como are returning to Serie B as champions following our play-off failure last season at the hands of Ternana. As the graph above shows, once we hit the top on week 8 we never lost top spot, and i can say we truly deserved to be champions. Our league success was compounded by our 6-2 aggregate defeat of San Marino to lift the Serie C1 Super Cup.

Serie C1 Super Cup

As the transfers show, our squad saw a bit of an overhaul in the summer, with a few of our better players leaving. I felt that i had to offload a few of our players who i could get good money for, whilst not affecting my chances too much. The £1 million fee received for Lartey (our back-up RM) was a club record. (Lartey has since struggled to make an impact at his new club, so good business all round)

Squad - GK & Defence

Squad - Midfield & Attack

I was pleased with the squad that i built ready for our title challenge. i felt comfortable that we had great strength in depth, and that we would be capable of reaching our goals, which we did.

Players of note included:

Eros Corradini - Eros firmly established himself as the number one goalkeeper. Pulled off too many great saves to mention. An integral part of the team, i will do all i can to keep him.

Rincon - The brazilian RB again had a great season, once more finishing as our top assist maker. Not bad for a RB! Another mainstay of the starting line-up, his presence is missed when absent.

Andrea Pisani - a £220k signing from Bari, Andrea had a great first season at CB. i place a lot of emphasis on his signing as being a major factor in the tight defence we developed. Formed a great partnership with De Roo.

Emre Sahin - This Belgian U-21 CM did better than i had hoped for in his first full season in the first team. Did a great job, and am already fending off offers for him. i have set a £2.5 million asking price for him, which has scared off all suitors.

Basty Kyeremateng - another great season for the LM. another of the first team stalwarts, Basty would be sorely missed. A great winger, and creator of a number of goals.

Nicola Iachemet - Our record signing, at £600k, following impressive seasons at Ternana. i placed a lot of faith in Nicola, and he didn't let me down. pushed the previously impressive Antheunis out of the team, and deserved his place. Very pleased i pushed the boat out for him, and feel he could become a key player in our Serie B campaign.

Sercan Sararer - the young Spaniard excelled this season, picking up the fan;s player of the year award. Pipped to the top goalscorer award by his strike partner De Lucia, mainly due to a couple of injury lay-offs. Offers pace up front, which many defences failed to cope with. Another star for the future.

Nico De lucia - Top goalscorer, he will be missed when he leaves on a free transfer. finished top goalscorer in the league, and a great foil for Sararer. i have identified finding a replacement as my number one priority this summer, and am hoping i have managed it.

Finances

as you can see, a profit was made in the year, mainly due to the transfer money i brought in. we were still losing £100k a month, and hopefully this will stop once we are promoted.

>>> AIMS FOR NEW SEASON <<<

- Survival. has to be my number one aim. i feel that i have a better squad than i did in our previous campaign in Serie B. A couple more signings and i feel we can compete.

- sign a ST. this is my main area of strengthening, and i am hopeful that i have managed this with my signings.

- reduce the squad size. my squad is currently too big, as i have about 3 players per position currently. clearing some of the reserves who, whilst good, probably won't play, will cut the wage budget some more.

- have a decent showing in the Coppa Italia. i'd love a money spinning game against one of the Italian 'giants'.

so, The Lariani are heading back to Serie B. can we survive more than one season again? i hope so!!

Great season Rlipscombe, upwards and onwards from now on.

On a sadder note, I just resigned from Aindling, I tried but just couldn't get in to that save (the bad results probably helped too ;)).

I'll keep following this thread with interest, and if I'm not back later with '08, I'm looking forward to completing this challenge with FM09.

Good luck to all the participants.

G'day all, I've followed everyones progress and am seriously thinking about starting. France and maybe Portugal seem very attractive to me, however I've read that there are problems/glitches with these leagues.

So I'm open to any advice on anywhere, Pluckaduck

Link to post

there aren't problems with france as such - it's just that unlike many teams in the challenges, you will probably have a full squad as you can't actually play the bottom tier in France. that's all.

as for Portugal, the only 'problem' i believe is that at the end of the season you can get quite a few fixtures in a few days, due to play-offs etc.

they're not major problems in my opinion, and shouldn't stop anyone playing in these countries.

Hi all, been following this thread for a while and had started a save in Spain but lost interest in it. I saw earlier someone was playing with Casale in Italy, I had a great game with them in FM06, took them up to Serie A and won it along with the champions league so I thought I would try to repeat that in FM08.

Here's my info:

Thanks for that, for France, do I go in the CFA or the National?

load up all of the leagues and then at the end of the season, pick one of the teams that have been promoted up from the bottom division. the bottom league is unplayable (it's mostly reserve teams) so you can't pick one of them anyway.

at the risk of multiple posting, a quick little update on my pre-season.

armed with a small transfer budget (cheers guys) an a wage budget about the same as last season, money has been tight at the giuseppe sinigaglia. with the majority of players on a 25% pay rise upon promotion, i ended up £12k p/w over budget on wages. reducing this has been my number one priority. i have now just about brought it down to budget, after letting a few players go. i have admittedly not been able to get as much cash as i'd have liked, but i needed them off the wage bill.

about a half dozen signings have arrived so far, all on free transfers. screenshots will follow at a later date. i am pleased with the squad i have, although it is still a little on the large size. all in all, i am happy with the squad i have, although i could do with another CB as cover, and am also of the opinion i may be a little liht upfront still. it depends how the new signings settle.

i have cancelled my link with AC Milan as the standard of loanees we were receiving was, well rubbish. i now have Getafe, and although i haven't got anyone this season, i hope to reap the rewards of this in future seasons. i have also now got myself a feeder club who actually play 'in game', in Real Marchionese (sp?). this is of considerable benefit, as i can give my talented youngsters some proper game time. 3 players have already been farmed out, and more will follow after pre-season most probably.

i am about to start my pre-season firndlies, so the real test of my squad will start shortly. i can't wait!! :D

if anyone is interested, a quick update on life in Serie B............

14 games into the season now, and i had forgotten how tough Serie B was. after a poor start, we have rallied a little and are currently in 16th, with a record of 4-3-6. we're only a fe points above the relegation zone, but not too far off the top half either. Serie B is very competitive, and as such there aren't many 'easy' games. our defence isn't too bad, but we have started to struggle to score goals. Sararer has slipped out of the first XI, and Millan is playing in his place.

fiancially, the step up is helping, as crowds are up to over 12,000 on average, which in turn is seeing profits of over £200k every month, which helps a lot. if i can stay up, our financial situation is bound to improve further.

i'll post more as the season goes on, whether anyone actually cares or not... ;)

Any news on Como's Big Serie B adventure?

Also, I picked up my Aidling save again, decided to sit down and have a good long look at my tactics. We picked up some much needed points and maybe things aren't as bleak as I tought they were (still could use a good striker tough :D).
