Grantman
You cannot alas, you need to find your unique ID and add it into the config file within your picture folder!
MbahGondrong
happened to me too... it appeared in the couple days but after that seems to disappear.
bfcaregreat
You could just create the picture as a facepack but it would end up being on all the games with different staff who have the same unique ids in different saves.

Miller2202
Create a folder called me. Place this in Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager2010/graphics Put the picture you want in the "me" folder and rename it your unique ID which is in the game. Download or create a config file ( search on fm base) then edit the config files ( which fm base tells you) Place that in the me folder. Then untick, tick in preferences. Job done. UF91
Create a folder called me.Place this in Documents/Sports Interactive/Football Manager2010/graphics Put the picture you want in the "me" folder Download or create a config file ( search on fm base) then edit the config files ( which fm base tells you) Place that in the me folder. fixed this is the what you need to put in the config file : <record> <!-- resource manager options --> <!-- dont preload anything in this folder --> <boolean id="preload" value="false"/> <!-- turn off auto mapping --> <boolean id="amap" value="false"/> <!-- logo mappings --> <!-- the following XML maps pictures inside this folder into other positions in the resource system, which allows this folder to be dropped into any place in the graphics folder and still have the game pick up the graphics files from the correct places --> <list id="maps"> <record from="PUT IMAGE NAME HERE " to="graphics/pictures/person/PUT YOUR UNIQUE ID NUMBER HERE/portrait"/> </list> </record> and then save the file as .xml use notepad to make the file, and make sure unique id is correct. then when loading the game got to preferences, display and sound, untick use skin cache and TICK reload skin on confirm and then press confirm and it should be there when game is loaded. also you have to put the picture and the .xml in C:\Users\user name\Documents\sports interactive\football manager 2010\graphics\me (vista) you will have to create the folders graphics and me also add it HAS to be .png picture if you are using this manual method. ps: i thiink that your unique id will be different in different game files
urbanjunkie
I've had this problem twice. The first time round it was nigh possible to get the picture back. Followed the above instructions to the letter last time out. Tried practically everything I was advised to do, to no avail. Recently just started a new game (photo selected at the start). Was in-game until I changed my Skin. Coincidence? I reckon it has something to do with skin changes. Anyways, just tried again. And it worked. I'm in shock (happy shock). By the way, I think the image has to be 180 x 180 to work.
super sub
This is far too complicated for me! I just putmy picture in through the set up wizard when I starta new game and change the display preferences. The only problem is then i can't really add new graphics when i start a new game otherwise my picture disappears.
Drg7
I have the same problem. The game loses my initial picture. So I followed the advice above. I created the xml file as per the instructions, put my picture in the same folder as a png 180X180 but still nothing happens. I don't know what is wrong... RowRow78
Tried this, Doesn't work for me  Should also add it HAS to be .png picture if you are using this manual method. The config.xml & .png file need to be in the same folder Also I wrote a very clear guide on the subject for FM09, same rules follow. HERE

radestock
This is well out of date. My fellow skinning hideout moderator has created a guide for FM10 here: http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php?t=210196 The process is exactly the same for FM09 (other than folder names which need to refer to FM09 rather than FM10).
