SI Staff Jeroen Thijssen Posted June 3, 2012 SI Staff Share Posted June 3, 2012 Jattebra! Sweden, always one of the countries I will root for if Holland go out - although I doubt that Sweden will go very far. Who is Plato? Seb Larsson Emir Bajrami
oldhammad
Covering Sweden for my blog, if anyone's got any info then it'd really help me out FOr example, who's likely to play centre-back now Majstorovic is injured? Mellberg and Granqvist?
Lathund
Plato is Tobias Hysén. Doesn't give short answers to questions, and just generally likes to talk. A nickname given by his teammates, although it's not used much that I know of. Just wanted some nicknames in the title. FWIW, the biggest idiot is Jonas Olsson. Footballer Henrik Rydström was in the PL studio one Saturday, and was asked what he thought about Jonas Olsson. He said that he was the biggest idiot he had ever played against, who would make the most absurd taunts etc. Unbeknownst to him, Jonas Olsson was on the line waiting to be interviewed It's either Mellberg and Granqvist with Lustig at RB, or Mellberg and Olsson with Granqvist at RB. The latter would mean the best players play, but Granqvist isn't really a natural RB and offers less going forward. I think it'll be Granqvist partnering Mellberg, but I'm not entirely sure. A third option is to play Seb Larsson at RB, which has the added advantage of freeing up a spot in midfield.

SI Staff Jeroen Thijssen Posted June 3, 2012 SI Staff Share Posted June 3, 2012 Granqvist was actually great going forward as CB at FC Groningen scoring a bunch of goals too

Reddiablo: He did score some absolutely awesome goal IIRC But I meant more as a full back, going up and down the wing and putting in crosses etc.

I think he made a 2nd similar goal as well later in the season

Lathund
For the fantasy players out there, Sweden started today with; Isaksson; Lustig, Mellberg, Granqvist, M. Olsson; Svensson, Källström; Larsson, Ibra, Elm; Toivonen However this week Hamrén has talked about the concept of a set starting XI being outdated. Some of it is the usual fluff (Like all 23 players are in his plans etc), but there is probably something in it. He talked about adapting to the opposition and the conditions and so on. So there could be some changes. I'd expect that today's starting XI is what he considers his strongest available, with Elmander coming in for one of Toivonen, Elm or Larsson when fit. Elmander instead of Toivonen would mean that #1-11 are on the pitch.
Mr Wallin
I'd say that Larssons place (and position) is pretty safe and it's unlikely that he would be the one left out if Elmander is fit to play. The one likely to be replaced is Toivonen (even though he was good against Serbia). It is possible that Toivonen is moved out to the left with Elm either being left out or being moved to the centre with Svensson moving to the bench but it hasn't been really that successful when tried earlier so I think it is less likely. Especially against opponents that are seen as stronger than us I'd say that Elmanders runs and ability to create space for Zlatan and our midfield is highly rated by Hamren. Lathund
Based on TV4's reporting from today's training session we'll see the following against England; Isaksson; Lustig, Granqvist, Mellberg, M. Olsson; Svensson, Källström; Larsson, Ibra, Bajrami; Elmander (if ready to start). ETA: Actually they only talked about the defense, central midfield and left wing. So the rest is just my guesses. Maple
If true, quite odd that Wilhelmsson doesn't replace Toivonen given he was subbed on as a leftwinger and did quite okay.
Mr Wallin
I don't think anyone trust Chippen enough to play whole games, impact sub is probably the best he can hope for.
Thengil
So - two games, two second half leads thrown away by crap defending. What I wouldn't give for a boring, rock-hard Lagerbäck-inspired defence these days...
Maple
So - two games, two second half leads thrown away by crap defending. What I wouldn't give for a boring, rock-hard Lagerbäck-inspired defence these days... Despite all criticism against Lagerbäck about failing in championships (which I think was ludicrous but that's another matter), we were never out before the last group game. I reckon Bank & Niva in the newspaper Aftonbladet has pretty much nailed it, with Niva writing we were allowing a lot of soft goals, despite conceding at the same way in the pre-championship matches, and Hamrén not doing his job in preparing the team. And Bank saying, in the old days, we often played quite bad, but knew we could still get a good result. Nowadays we play quite good and lose.
