I mac - any good for FM?

Recommended Posts

mac is brilliant. don't listen to those troll who said macs suck, because they have never own one before.

was it that long since you bought that mesh?

It's been 3 years since I bought that mesh computer, I've lost my recovery disks and everything on it seems to be slowing down, sometimes I can load up all English leagues, all scots, top 2 in Italy and Spain but other times I can only load up English league to div 3!!

Can I do anything that will help?

Cheers

You should just buy a computer with Windows on it then stick this on it.

Why bother with all the messing around when you can just buy a mac in the first place? Then if you want Windows as well then you can install it using bootcamp and / or parallels or VMWare.

To the original poster ... I have a macbook with a 2ghz intel core 2 duo and 2gb ram and FM runs as fast (if not faster) than on my PC which I built specifically for gaming but without all the noisy fans.

I've also got an iMac in work which I play FM on and it runs perfectly.

Basically don't listen to anybody here who tries to say one is better than the other. Get whichever is going to be best for you! FM will run perfectly well on either Windows or Mac OS X.

Although like a said above ... if you get a mac you can run both operating systems side by side without any trouble or breaking any terms of use!

I love my mac. It plays FM so much better than my old pc did.

However you must remember that macs are quite a bit more expensive than a pc and only really worth the investment if you are going to use them for stuff like graphic design, film editing and music.

If your main uses are internet, word documents and gaming i would stick to a pc and save some £££.

How petty is this going to get.

There is no answer to the question, which is better, mac or windows (please don't call a windows based computer a "PC", the mac was the first personal computer). It is personal opinion. Personally I use a mac but I have no issues with using windows or linux.

If you want something a bit different that does not have the security issues and does not require as much maintenance then go with an iMac. If you need more specific and / or specialised software then you may need to look at windows.

If you are unsure about a mac go into an Apple store (if you are in UK or USA) and try one out, and try not to get an assistant to help you, just play around by yourself and you will get a better feel for what is going on (could have phrased that better!)

Definitely agree with that. But also, don't feel too put off by the fact it will feel pretty alien. It really doesn't take too long to get used to the differences between OS X and Windows.

For what it's worth, I was a Windows user for 15 years, and would never have even considered buying a Mac. Then, 18 months ago, I was going to the States for 6 months, and needed to buy a laptop. A mate at work bought a macbook and brought it into work. I had a play around with it, found it to be very cool, and ended up buying one.

Now, I'd never buy another Windows based PC. Going to be replacing my desktop windows machine with a lovely new 24" iMac in the next few weeks. Couldn't imagine CHOOSING to use Windows again now, having used OS X.

^ anything OSX can do, windows can do = or better.

Windows is just as good for graphics design, film and 'music', macs being used for that is just an idea put forward by the adverts.

Not true. If you have a look into movie studios and postproduction, music recording studios, web desing firms, you will see many more macs than windows pc.

But to the original questions: Fm runs fast and without any problem on an Imac.

I was a real Windows/PC geek, having taught myself to build systems from scratch and to modify Windows to run exactly how I wanted it. I was then seconded onto a work project that required heavy duty media software and Macs were the chosen hardware. My role was to work out how to use this software on Macs, being the only person on the project who had any IT knowledge. I would now never, ever go back to Windows. However, if you are a serious gamer and want to play top of the range 3d titles, then Macs are not for you.

So... mac v pc again, really?

Iv'e been using Macs for years to play FM and had no problems, not one. in fact iv'e never had a problem with the mac at all, no virus, no crashes nothing and i do all my work on it, so its used all day.

Macs are very reliable, fast, really easy to use and great looking.

I had to use a windows pc last week at a friends office and within 20 mins up popped an error message, then 5 mins after sorting that it totally crashed, thats why i will never go back to a windows computer. to put it simply... Its not what it can do, its how it does it that makes all the difference.

Trust me, pay the extra and get a Mac

Truth.

Name one thing OSX can do, film, graphics, music wise Windows cant?

Each can do things the other cant.

Music wise, OSX has Logic which is quite popular among audio professionals.

The way it works with outboard equipment, drivers, its Core Audio system etc. are far better than Window's equivalent in each area.

I'd go in to more depth but really cant be bothered.
