My game is very, very, very slow. Any help?

My game is running very slowly, and I would like any advice as to how to get it faster?

Today alone it has taken me 6 hours to get through th first month in the game!! & Ive let my assistant take charge of the friendlies!!

I dont run anything else along with it, but its still running slow. If anyone can help, I would very much appriciate it!

To be honest I dont know how you can fix it if you have money buy s new computer if not take someone else's advice

What a dissapointment and there is no one to help from sports interactive anyway so i hope they enjoy my 30 quid they dont deserve as im sure i wont get my money back from direct to drive. what spec you running? Don't make the game so detailed? How big the database?

And I disagree, the SI staff are usually on, and are helpful. One forum I used to be on, for an online game, I only ever saw their admins on once in 18 months, and that was to announce a new feature.

As the poster above said - if you post your system specs then one of us might be able to help - otherwise its like walking into a car garage and saying 'my car doesnt work - its your fault it doesnt work' and then walking off.

ok guys running 1 nation 2 leagues (Premiership and championship)

My spec is as below.

The situation is that when processing it is very slow and then after each game it freezes for about 1 - 2 mins. If it wont run with say three nations leagues then its not really worth it i missed fm09 but 08 was really quite quick and i am not patient enough to sit and wait for my game to work the way i want.

As for the SI staff being on here is all well and good but maybe a phone line or a direct email or some sort of customer support for us people who arent particularly forum savvy?

oh yeh and defrag and running windowed and lowest possible settings makes no difference even shutting off all other processes for my pc hasnt worked.

Thats the important bit I think (im not an expert, just an enthusiastic amateur) I think you have an onboard graphics processor - and unfortunately it only has 64mb of dedicated graphics hardware - and it uses some of your other ram to make it run faster.

I dont think its suitable for playing this game with.

You have a faster pc than I do - and mine runs VERY fast (under 10 seconds to process a busy match day) - how many leagues are you running - are your drivers up todate?

Dont have a clue mate why, started off with Holland, UK, Spain, Germany, France, Italy, Portugal (Around 15 leagues between them) with around 100k players loaded.

It ran EXTREMELY slow! So slow after about an hour i started a new game up with just france, england, spain and italy first 4 for england and 2 for the rest leagues wise small database, now its running around average speed, anyone got any tips on making it quicker?

Drivers are up to date as i formatted around 5 days ago, using XP as well, which should be quicker?

my specs are low well 1gb ram and 1.86ghz (2 cpu's) and i run 6 leagues with most nations low leagues added and a large data base and every runs smooth and fast. wonder why that is?

so do we think that it wont run on my laptop if so then im pretty sure that they should put up a notice to laptop users its not fit for the use i bought it for.

It is an onboard graphics card just like most laptops but i think most people play this game on a laptop its the perfect game for laptop play.

I know alot of students who use laptops to play it.

But the game isnt exactly overly thrilling in the graphics department so would ahve thought it would work.

Was wandering whether it could be because it was running from my hard drive rather than a disk but dont think so.

would love to hear the opinion of someone from SI.

Just so they can tell me why it wont work and why i wasnt told.

Strange thing is the demo worked fine.

When you say you formatted it 5 days ago - did you then reuse the disks that came with the PC to re-install? Because in that case, the drivers will be REALLY old.

CAn you define 'extremely' slow - when was it slow?

Seems that it doesnt like intergrated graphix cards which most laptops have but i wouldnt have bought it if that was the case

1) I run it on a lap top - being a lap top isnt the issue. Onboard built in graphics cards arent really the norm any more - most 'standard' lap tops (not budget ones or ones from supermarkets) will have a fairly cheap, but separate graphics card. Budget desktops have inbuilt graphics cards as well.

EDIT - not all intergrated graphics cards are bad - some have a fair amount of dedicated ram - yours just doesnt.

2) You were told - the back of the game specifications say a 'minimum' of 128md dedicated graphics ram.

Sorry - I could still be wrong - but thats how I read it im afraid.

I used my mates copy, but then i checked for the latest drivers etc, been using computers for a long time so im not new to it all, extremely slow it was like, when i pressed the spacebar to continue, it took a few seconds for the processing screen to pop up.

Im just trying to get across that from a game that is so poor on the graphics front. lets face it we dont buy it for that. It really has no graphics more challenging than internet explorer when you use the 2d match engine and yet it wont work on 400 quids worth of laptop.

Now i would say thats prob standard prices it aint no asda special for 249.99!!

Ah - now see - this is the issue and its why I always ask that question - slow for some people, is not slow.

When I press continue I can count to 3 before the processing bar appears - I seriously dont count that as slow.

1) Its late on sunday night - the chances of someone from SI responding are somewhere between crystal palace wining the premier league and arsene wenger seeing his players diving.

2) I hate to be rude, I really do - but £400 isnt an expensive laptop, its not even mid range. If you look at the list on the PC world website - there are 12 pages of laptops, £400 laptops fall on page 2 and 3. By the time you get to the mid range ones, they are about £500-600 and they all have decent graphics cards in them.

Less i think, cant remember tbh, think it just says the English leagues top 4.

Well thats why its running so slow then. If you ignore the recommendations you cant then wonder why its running slowly!

I play empire total war - I can set most of the graphics functions to med-high, but if I set them all to very high then id barely get 5fps. I cant then complain that the game isnt working right, when ive ignored the recommendation.

But what im saying it my Laptop is better than the reccomended setup, a lot better, but yet my recommended to play is 4 leagues? Surely with this many people complaining about how slow the game runs, aswell as previous years like 09, they would try to make it a lot quicker?!

ok well we will agree to disagree. I dont think the game is worth spending an great deal on to play and mine laptop does everything else fine.

I dont expect them to speak to me know just want a response from someone.

All you get on here is the people like you who granted try to be helpfull but at the end of the day have no idea of the inner workings of the game and therefore can only offer basic advice all of which i have tried and failed.

Even with my intergrated graphics card with about 96mb i think you wouldnt expect it to be this slow its unreal its not worth playing.

And if you cant play such a basic game on a average laptop(as far as ones out there owned not new ones for sale atm) then i think thats poor, but hey just my opinion.

As for the SI staff being on here is all well and good but maybe a phone line or a direct email or some sort of customer support for us people who arent particularly forum savvy?

Why would we put up a notice like that when it's not true?

I'm no expert at all, but it does appear that your machine is under the minimum spec. So while it's a shame that it doesn't work, I doubt your petrol car would work too well if you put diesel in it - see the problem?

We work the same hours as everyone else - so it's not guaranteed that you'll have an answer in minutes.

My suggestion is that you may get the game to work if the demo did but can't guarantee it - my suggestions;

- Make sure Java, Graphics drivers and DirectX are all up to date if you haven't already - double-check 'em.

- Try running with sound off.

- Try running with just 2d for starters and see if there's a speed difference.

- Check that you're not running a virus checker in the background.

If you've done all of that, contact Customer services - they'll confirm whether your machine is or isn't up to the minimum spec and provide better technical advice than I can.

The game is tested in a compatability lab on the biggest range of hardware we can get our hands on. If we only tested it on top end machines we'd not have a lot of luck getting it to work on basic laptops (mine, by the way, is pretty much bang on the minimum spec and the game works fine so it does sound to me like you have a different issue - see the above advice and see how you go).

There seems to be alot of issues here which other people might prefer to discuss over the phone with someone than on here

The game advances every year - its a balancing act for SI - there are people who want the game to be as advanced and pretty as possible - but they equally know that there are lots of people out there with less advanced computers who they dont want to upset.

Rich - your laptop might be better than the recommended requirements - but that doesnt mean you can run 15 leagues and expect fantastic speed.

Steve - I understand your pain - I really do - I suffered with a sub par laptop for 3 years before I bought this one. But they do publish the game requirements on the back of the box - and it does specifically state that you need 128mb of dedicated graphics ram to use the game. Not much else I can say really - you wouldnt buy a standard TV and then complain you cant watch HD films on it?

EDIT - sweet ***** lord - someone from SI - Well, maybe wenger might see a dive once in a while after all!

Just a thought, but check your power settings on your laptop. If its on anything other than "High Performance" then Windows won't utilise all of your computer's resources. Have you unchecked the "Use 3D cameras" in preferences as well?

well no but there is no way i can get my money back after buying it online if id bought the disk i would have taken it back by now and said it doesnt work or install or watever to get the money back.

Just a great big dissapointment really that my laptop is 3 months old and yeh not great spec but still not old and as a games manufacturer having it work on all the pcs laptops sold in 2009(granted maybe at the most basic of settings would be a priority but guess not in this case

I think you problem is that again, you dont have the minimum required dedicated RAM - the top bit in italics is from my pc - the bottom bit is from yours

Now, although you have more over all RAM, only 115MB is dedicated to the graphics, compared to 512mb in my case. This means, in certain circumstances everyting will run fine, but, when 'stressed' your system will only end up iwth 115MB graphics ram - which is less than the required 128mb ram - meaning that your game wont run properly.

Post your computers system information - if its all shiney and working and everything then you will have a justification to feel upset - but at the moment you are complaining its not working, but we cant see if it is set up right.
