givens
ok, i have downloaded the new patch, when i try to load the game it says, "not well-formed (invalid token) at line 1 of update-930.xml". i am using steam but have also tried loading the game via fm shortcut. i have had nothing but trouble with this game, with errors like this appearing, also the game crashing constantly when playing and when trying to save a game. makes me sad lol as i have been an avid FM fan since the start. icecreamman
Is anyone else having trouble downloading the patch from the forum? The same problem is happening for all platforms; 1) none of the bittorrent links are loading 2) rapidshare; the page loads, I click on the link for non-premium users, then wait the obligatory 130 seconds before commencing download. The only problem? I'm supposed to type in a three-letter code that is supposed to appear next to the "download" button. Numerous attempts over several days, but I can't download without being shown what three-letter code I need to enter. Or am I the only person who hasn't already downloaded the 9.3 patch... icecreamman
I'm reposting because I notice that the post with the links has been updated, but the issue is unresolved. For the page with the links for the 9.3.0 patch: 1) none (0) of the bittorrent links load. 2) Rapidshare - after the obligatory 130s wait for non-paying users, the link says "please enter [?] here..." Well the [?] never loads, so the upgrade can't be downloaded without entering whatever letters that unloaded icon has.
Mike.83
Hi. I built my friend a new PC yesterday, and he took it home. He installed FM2009 through steam this morning, excited to play it. Anyways, he's getting an error when trying to start through steam, telling him the game has to be shut down. When trying to start the game manually (navigating on his PC to where its installed and starting it, he gets an d3dx9_37.dll error. But its not saying the DLL file is missing...here is a screenshot of the error. http://i124.photobucket.com/albums/p27/83_Mike/fm2009/error.jpg He is running Vista Home Premium, 64bit version. We've tried reinstalling DirectX and it didn't help at all.
Blaze
This is incredibly frustrating and stupid. I purchased my copy of WWSM 09 via digital download, then tried to update it only to find out that it kept asking for the disc. Came back on the site and found out that I needed to download the eSeller version. Now when i try to go back to RapidShare it says i've reached my limit for downloads and can't try again. Why aren't the downloads available on Sega's site? Why does it have to be soo complicated to download a simple file? On top of that the other links that are listed don't work. Why do we need to be scammed? Why do you have to go to a 3rd party vendor that charges to get your patch? This seems incredibly unprofessional. I paid for my game, I would like to play it, and i'm entitled to patch files.

Administrators Neil Brock Posted March 9, 2009 Administrators Share Posted March 9, 2009 My FM09 was running fine until a yesterday.when i try to start a new game or when i try to load an old save i get this : a serious error was encountered and the application will now close Here is a pic of the problem http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/j...wl90/ERROR.jpg i am using the patched version as well and no luck anyone know how to fix this ? Have you added any custom graphics or skins to your game? Also are you using a custom database? I would suggest deleting your settings folder and seeing if this helps: First of all you need to turn on hidden files and folders. Go to My Computer and at the top select 'Tools' the 'Folder Options'. The go to the 'View' tab and select 'Show hidden files and folders' Windows XP: 1. Open “My Computer” 2. Navigate to : “Documents and Settings\<Username>\Application Data\ 3. Go into the “Sports Interactive” Folder. 4. Delete the “Football Manager 2009” Folder. Wndows Vista: 1. Click “Start” 2. Click your username on the start Menu 3. Click on “AppData” and then “Roaming” 4. Go into the “Sports Interactive” Folder 5. Delete the “Football Manager 2009” Folder. Let us know how you get on. Administrators Neil Brock Posted March 9, 2009 Administrators Share Posted March 9, 2009 nbrocky hey m8, see 2 posts up can you confirm ill need more ram or have u got a cheeky wee idea that might make it work lol ? The amount of Ram you have is fine, however both your processor and graphics card aren't fantastic which may be causing issues with the game. What I would suggest is making sure you aren't running any other programs when playing FM, and selecting a low amount of leagues and a smallish database when playing. I would also suggest running a virus scan on your computer just to make sure you've not got any nasties making your system perform badly. Let us know how you get on. Thanks. Unfortunately it's not that simple, your system actually needs new parts to run FM09 quicker. I would suggest updating your graphics card, but that won't help with processing speed. FM is quite an intensive game for memory and processing, and if your system cannot handle it, then unfortunately you'll have to upgrade.

Thanks. Just had a look at it, and I don't get any of the errors listed. FM doesn't say the dll file is missing, it says it "is either not designed to run on windows or contains an error." As shown in my screenshot. I've tried reinstalling DirextX9, updating it, and manually replacing the dll giving the error with no success

Administrators Neil Brock Posted March 10, 2009 Administrators Share Posted March 10, 2009 ok, i have downloaded the new patch, when i try to load the game it says, "not well-formed (invalid token) at line 1 of update-930.xml". i am using steam but have also tried loading the game via fm shortcut.i have had nothing but trouble with this game, with errors like this appearing, also the game crashing constantly when playing and when trying to save a game. makes me sad lol as i have been an avid FM fan since the start. I can't play the game due to an XML parsing error If you have a shortcut on your desktop you can do the following: Right-click on the FM shortcut. Choose "Properties" from the pop-up menu. In the "Target" field, add the --reset_preferences command line option after "fm.exe", so it should look like this:"C:\Program Files\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2009\fm.exe" --reset_preferences Press OK and then try to run the game as normal, using the shortcut. You'll want to remove the command after you run the game, as otherwise it will continue to reset your preferences every time you launch. If you don't have a shortcut you can make one and then perform the instructions on the shortcut you've made. If you purchased and installed the game through Steam you should be able to find the fm.exe in the following directory:C:/Program Files/Steam/SteamApps/Common/Football Manager 2009/ If you purchased and installed the game from a boxed DVD copy you should be able to find the fm.exe in the following directory:C:/Program Files/Sports Interactive/Football Manager 2009/ Other XML Errors Delete the following folder: XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2009\settings Vista: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Sports Interactive\Football Manager 2009\settings This may solve some issues regarding the XML Errors

dan583
Hi, I installed the game and registered it and it all seemed to be going well. When i try and start the game it wont load up, I just get a message saying FM2009 has encountered an error and needs to close, any work you have not saved may be lost. There are no error codes but the message is identicle to the message that you get on internet explorer when that crashes if anyone is familiar with it. Any help appreciated, Thanks.
