ToMexico!!
Welcome to my last save on FM18 and its a youth only save, something I've never done before on any FM game. The temptation to improve the squad through buying players will be strong and something I'll have to manage So Zeljeznicar Sport, from Bosnia & Herzegovina, I am taking them over in the Republic of Srpska First League which is the 2nd tier. From what I can find they are known as Zeljeznicar Banja Luka. They are not to be confused with the Bosnian Premier League team Zeljeznicar, who we have no affiliation with on FM. I chose them as they're a bit of a cheat team with fantastic facilities already. Great Training facilities, Great Youth facilities coupled with Good Junior Coaching and Established Youth Recruitment. Gives me the chance to make waves with the save before FM19 comes out. We have a few decent prospects at the club already with four players in the first team squad aged 20 or over. I'm hoping to play a midfield three with two upfront and a solitary inside forward to fit with the players I have. The top prospects are Jeremic and Njezic below, with Njezic in the first team playing as that Inside Foward on the left wing. I now look forward to getting stuck in and resist the urge to buy some players.
ToMexico!!
Expectations... Board want mid-table, told the squad mid-table, media think relegation. We were predicted 11th but with no signings they now think we'll finish dead last. We had a good pre-season, winning four and drawing our other game, albeit against pretty mediocre clubs except Pukas Academy.
ToMexico!!
August 2017 A solid month, which I wasn't expecting. We were 2-0 down in the opening before the half time team talk kicked us into gear. Three comfortable wins followed until we faced 2nd placed Drina, their win over us saw them leapfrog us into 1st place.
ToMexico!!
Jeremic out for the Season!! He was probably two weeks away from being called up to the first team and bam! Broken Ankle, out for the rest of the season, him form for the U19 was pretty decent with 9 goals in 8 games. Let's hope he can make a good recovery. ToMexico!!
September 2017/18 A decent enough month, back to winning ways against Tekstilac but a poor draw against Sloga, who had beaten top of the table Drina the game previous, was followed by a big loss to Napredak, we conceded three goals in 5 minutes. We came back from half time deficits against both Sutjeska and Slavija. 2nd on goal difference.
ToMexico!!
October/November 2017/18 Awful really, started promisingly but November came and all down hill from there. Another loss to top of the table Drina really put us behind and we were 1-0 up against Tekstilac before succumbing to a defeat. Thankfully we've reach the winter break so gives the chance to regroup and go again. 7 points behind after 17 games. 104 days until our next competitive fixture. Vaso Njezic has been the player of the first half of the season, the 17 year old has excelled as an inside forward contributing 9 assists. He's also scored 2 goals and made 44 key passes. Johnny-Trotter
Enjoy the Balkans! I did a similar youth only effort in Serbia, taking OFK Beograd from the third tier to dominating nationally on the basis of the quality of facilities and youth steup early on. I always seemed to hit a plateau in Europe though, essentially falling at around the First Knockout round of the Champions League.

Thanks Yeh with fantastic facilities from the off its gives me a good chance early on. Like I've alluded to if all goes well this will be my last save for FM18 before 19 comes out. Hopefully I can get into Europe in this save and see where it takes me.
ToMexico!!
Youth Intake 2018 A "golden generation", lets take a closer look... Initial thoughts are wow, but looking individually, Babic who was identified in the initial screenshot it the best. Great finishing, Off the Ball and Acceleration to begin with, need to work on a few other mentals. Unfortunately he has an unambitious personality. Smiljanic is probably the next best, the young centre back is 190cm tall but is quite slow, we can work on that though. He has an ambitious personality along with good starting stats for tackling, positioning, determination and jumping reach. We will also need to work on heading. ToMexico!!
March 2018 Another decent start to the month before tailing off. The thumping of Sutjeska saw youth prospect Babic score his first goal of his career in his 2nd substitute appearance. Those back to back defeats see us drop down to fourth place. The league now splits into two, so we have another 10 games to play.
ToMexico!!
End of Season 2017/18 The league split and we were pitted home and away against the other top six sides. A loss to Sloboda was inevitable having just lost to them previously. We shocked Drina but then lost to the most inform team in the league Slavija. We then went on a six-game unbeaten run which included wins over Sloboda, Drina and finally Salvija. We ended the season poorly with a loss to Tekstilac who jumped above us in the league table. So fourth, a top half finish which was better than expected. Drina won the league but not by the margin they once had, they'll be testing themselves against the big boys of Bosnian football. The one shock looking at the Premier League was to see Zeljeznicar be relegated so I guess they'll be walking our league next season.
ToMexico!!
Squad & Club 2017/18 Squad sorted by minutes played, only my GK Pupovac played every minute of every game. In terms of goals Jokanovic, Kuzmanovic and Markovic shared the goals between them. Njezic made 14 assists in the end so really slowed down in the second half of the season with only five assists compared to nine in the first half. Finances are well in the red now, we lost money hand over fist through the summer as well as paying out 35k in bonuses for league finish. Thanks. Now proceeding with pre-season. Strangely no relegated teams were put in our division, we had two promoted whilst the other division at the same level which has more teams in it had four promoted into it and the two relegated teams. ToMexico!!
Pre-Season 2018/19 Upon the new season ticking over the board announced a link with Premier Division side Siroki Brijeg, I didn't ask for the link but the extra money is handy. If they attempt to loan any players to me I will of course reject their offer. A great pre-season it would seem but we did only play a few local lower league sides plus a couple small foreign sides, the wins will be do the confidence a lot of good however. Media expectations are 7th, I told the squad I want top half again and the board want mid-tabled. Pre-season favourites Sloga (SH) were moved from the Federation of BIH First League, which is the same level to us.
ToMexico!!
August 2018/19 Pre-Season form continued into the competitive fixtures where we blitzed Mladost 3-0 at home. A closely contested away game at Tekstilac saw another win. New promoted Leotar put us under pressure and we fought back for a good draw. Goals-galore in the months last fixture as we fell behind, went infront, fell behind again before scoring a late equaliser. Happy enough with the start with only 1st and 2nd league favourites ahead of us.
ToMexico!!
September 2018/19 Form continued into September albeit we started with a draw things picked up as we confidently dispatched Napredak and Kozara. Another draw followed before we faced former Premier Division side Velez Mostar in the Bosnian Cup, we were favourites and duly delivered. We ended the month with with a tight 1-0 win scoring in the last minute. Up to 2nd and the only unbeaten side in the league. We need to convert some of those draws into wins to keep ourselves in the mix.
ToMexico!!
October/November 2018/19 Missed the October update so a double one, we're still unbeaten in the league and into the semi-finals of the Bosnian FA Cup. In the cup we've been pretty lucky with the draw having played Celik who at the same level as us, we smashed them 6-2 after going behind. In the two legged quarters we were awful by our standards in the home leg but turned the style on away from home when I made a few changes. With that league form we sit top of the table on goal difference to Leotar. We demolished them 5-0 in the league. We changed formation for this season purely to fit this guy in, he really developed over the course of last season and was a star in the U19s. He plays AMC(R) as a Shadow Striker and with 7 goals and 9 assists he's excelled in that role. However he is not the top scorer for the side as Markovic and Kuzmanovic have both scored double digits so far this season.
ToMexico!!
Youth Intake 2019 Our 2nd intake with this save and its another "golden generation". Jovan Kostic is the 'gifted' youngster of the intake. 2x 5* PA and 2x 4.5* PA is pretty decent. Personalities aren't great with Balanced numerous times and a couple of Low Determinations. A left-mid winger who has some great physicals for a 15 year old, gives me that option to use a winger instead of an inside forward. If we can get his crossing, passing and dribbling into double figures we could have a good player there. My pick of the intake, a natural central midfield who doesn't have a natural role. Some good mentals to work with and passing is better than what I have already got. If we can increase his Off the Ball, Positioning and Tackling for sure then we have a good midfielder there for this level.
ToMexico!!
March 2018/19 Four games in March and one in April before the league split. Amazingly we're still unbeaten this season, we didn't have the hardest of fixtures but we suffered with international call ups which effected our results slightly. Those results didn't effect our league standing though as we still top the table as Leotar lost three games in that period.
ToMexico!!
April 2018/19 What an awful month in the league, our unbeaten run came to an abrupt end with a humiliating defeat to Slavija which saw them over take us in the league. Prior to that game and after we drew both legs of the cup semi final which saw us go through to the final on away goals. Our final opponents Sloga gave us a hiding in the league too. At this point we've really been struggling with injuries, we've had to call up a number of U19 players in the first team to make up the numbers. We did beat Leotar but lost the next game. We're still 2nd by a distance a distance to 3rd, being honest I don't really want to get promoted this season as we're not strong enough for the top tier of Bosnian football yet. ToMexico!!
Bosnian Cup Final 2018/19 The Cup final like the semi-final was a two legged affair. The first leg was away from home and we managed two rescue a late 2-2 draw, which gave us an advantage with the away goals. The first leg however was more one sided... We demolished them. And.... We qualify for the Europa League
ToMexico!!
Republic of Srpska First League - 2018/19 We've finished our second season in Bosnian football and it was a fairytale one at that, that Cup win via the easiest route possible see's us qualify for the Europa League next season but what about the league... We didn't have the best of finishes to that league campaign due to a combination of injuries, international call ups and saving ourselves for the cup final legs. However neither did Salvija, which meant... We made it a league and cup double in our second season in the job. Amazeballs. It was a narrow margin of victory in the league sealing the title by just one point, I do believe if we had been level on points Slavija's head-to-head record would have seen them top the table. It's hard to show you a screenshot of the squad as a whole as we used so many players so the best XI shows the most used and our formation. In terms of goals Markovic was the major goal getter but only 13 of those came in the league. Youth prospect Babic did well through the course of the season originally a bench player but forced himself into a starting berth, will probably be a starter next season. Finances are steadily on the decrease but I hope a round in the Europa League will change that, I'm yet to find out at which stage we will enter the competition. ToMexico!!
2019/20 Expectations and Europe Attempt to Avoid Relegation is a given. Bosnian Cup Eighth Final is achievable given we get a favourable draw. Europe however to reach the Second Qualifying Round whilst doesn't seem difficult its probably too far for us considering who we have drawn against... As long as we compete its good for me. ToMexico!!
Europa League First Qualifying Round We're through our first venture into Europe and we won our first tie. We drew 3-3 away in Scotland which was much to my surprise. We fell behind in the 2nd Leg but youngster Babic levelled things before going off injured. Markovic added a 2nd meaning Motherwell needed to win the tie to stand any chance of advancing. They couldn't get through our defence again. Into the hat we went. Where we were drawn against... Malmo, would have liked the away leg first but we have met the boards expectations of the 2nd Qualifying Round.
ToMexico!!
Europa League 2nd Qualifying Round I would say that this tie was won in the first leg, we beat Malmo 3-1 at home in a convincing performance but in the second leg it went down the wire. We found ourselves 2-0 down with seconds of injury time remaining when Njezic popped up with the most important goal of his career so far to send us through 4-3 on aggregate. Euphoria. Our reward is a tie with Spanish side Malaga. The end is nigh but I said that last round.
ToMexico!!
Europa League Third Qualifying Round I'm really pleased with the way we played and the fact we only conceded four over the two legs and we scored one too. Far exceeded my expectations and kept the board happy beating theirs too. We're now 250k in the black thanks to the run too.
ToMexico!!
2019/20 Mid-Season Update Pretty happy with this set of results, we didn't do too badly at the beginning when we where battling away in Europe too and had a tough run of away games where we lost three in a row. Form really picked up where we went on a run of seven games unbeaten which really pushed us up the table. We sit 5th which is fantastic in what could have been a difficult first season in the top flight. New competitive game is in 60 days so my next update will be the youth intake.
ToMexico!!
2020 Youth Intake Another "Golden Generation". Some better determinations in there and decent personalities for the four 5* potential players. My choice as best from the intake, we have a decent keeper but having this home grown back up option we set us for a few years to come. Needs to work on Anticipation, positioning and his distribution but a solid option. Next best, good finishing and heading along with some good mentals, needs work on his physicals for sure. Probably about 4th best striker in the club already. A deep-lying playmaker with great passing already, needs some work on the rest of his technical stats. ToMexico!!
Bosnian Premier League - 2019/20 We had three games left of the regular season, of which we didn't win any of them but still finished in the top six before the league split. We lost our opening fixture after the split. Form did pick up however going on that six game unbeaten streak which saw us hit 3rd place for a game or two. League winners Sarajevo stopped us in our tracks before a draw to the other Zeljeznicar side. Sloboda Tuzla beat us on the last day to see us slip down to 5th place. Extremely pleased with our first season in the top tier, narrowly missing out on another chance in the Europa League. Squad sorted by minutes played. GK Pupovac played every minute of every match again, Petkovic and Njezic started every game too. Kuzmanovic was top scorer but was largely disappointing, another disappointment was Babic (YP18a) despite some really progress in his ability and Gajic who wanted a new contract early in the season, which I gave him and he asked twice to move to a bigger club. Markovic was my pick for player of the season for his all round performance but he only scored seven league goals which isn't good enough. In a positive thanks to prize money for finishing 5th. Projection is to have ended next season with double this amount in the bank. ToMexico!!
Pre-Season 2020/21 A very good pre-season including beating Lokomotiv Moscow and Jablonec. The board expects us to avoid relegation again, I've told the team I want mid-table again and the media think 10th, which would be survival by the skin of our teeth. ToMexico!!
Youth Watch 2020 Every few season's I'll take a look at the youth players that have come through and contributed to the first team squad. Just two players to have a look at this time. A key man in attack for the past two seasons, 13 goals in his breakout season in the second tier and just eight goals last season but he's still only 18. Had a good pre-season scoring against both Lokomotiv and Jablonec. Tutoring has seen his personality change from Unambitious to Balanced which I think has seen the overall progression of some of his stats. Has been subject to heavy interest from Sarajevo and Siroki Brijeg, where I have set his status to reject all bids. Was on the fringe of the first team last season, doing well when stepping up to replace the suspended or injured centre backs, playing in 20 games and scoring one goal. I'm giving him the chance to be number one centre back this coming season. His physicals really starting to improve for the 18 year old. Also promoted to the first team squad are 17 year old MC Urosevic and 16 years old Lukic (GK) and Marinkovic (ST) both coming through the latest youth intake. ToMexico!!
2021 Youth Intake No golden generation, Novakovic singled out as one of the most gifted players to have come through recently. Lets take a closer look... Poor depth in quality but a 5* potential in Novakovic. Fair few poor personalities too, with five unambitious and three low determination. A poacher, which is what I play with along side an AF. Double figures for finishing is a good start, poor mental's across the board with a couple of double figures. Physicals are OK for a 15 year old.
ToMexico!!
Bosnian Premier League - 2020/21 Really brief season update... We had a fantastic season to finish 3rd and qualify for the Europa League. Poor in the cup. Sorted by minutes played. Babic and Markovic were the stand outs. Gajic won't sign a new contract. We are doing well, the quality of the league is not great although a few clubs like Zeljeznicar and Sarajevo have been spending a bit to improve. Gajic is going to be a big loss this season, the player set to replace him is half as good as him but did well when called upon last season. Edit-- As I flick back over to FM.... Gajic's replacement out the start of the season... I have no other half decent AMC's, so will have to be a young MC and retrain them whilst I am at it. ToMexico!!
Europa League 3rd Qualifying Round Wow, wasn't expecting this. ToMexico!!
2022 Youth Intake A 'golden generation' An absolute awful set of personalities, even a spineless in there. 1 x 5* and 2 x 4.5* PA isn't to be sniffed at though. Top rated for potential, a poacher, average finisher, some good physicals but poor anticipation and composure. Left footed though. Potentially a better prospect, decent mentals, good speed but poor strength so could be a useful covering defender. I probably won't ever tutor him because I don't want to ruin his determination stat, will do more harm than good.

Sorted by Age (youngest first), great contribution from Babic well backed up by Marinkovic after the league split. 23 League goals see's him top scorer for the league by four goals. Also highest league average rating. Not too bad, another Europa League run till see that swallowed up and maybe the chance to invest in YR or JC again. ToMexico!!
2022 Youth Watch 5 Seasons into this save I thought I would take a look at the youth players to have come through and featured in the first team. The only player not shown is Babic. The youngest of the lot, has fantastic passing ability and finished the season with a pass completion of 85% which isn't too bad. Only two assists is a disappointment but I'm going move to a three man midfield and hopefully that will help. Whinged about lack of first team football prior to Xmas, gave him the chance and he delivered, played as a poacher which isn't his preferred role. Next season will be interesting to see if he can support Babic further. Came in after first choice GK Pupovac decided to reject my contract offer and agree to sign for the other Zeljeznicar. Only two clean sheets but with a young defence in front him I'm OK with it. Retrained him at AMC but was pretty poor, mentals improved well over the course of the season, has good passing and will be using him in a three-man midfield in the new season. Currently unhappy, moaned about playing time despite starting 18 games and subbed on another 19 times. Will start him again in the new season and hope he becomes happy. Solid defender who scored one goal for the season. Wasn't tagged but improved drastically. Happy with my treatment of Stankovic, despite being his centre defence partner. 42 games, three goals and three assists. Knocked back a few bids through the course of the season. Here's the current top rated players in the U19s. The two centre backs, Ilic and Brankovic aren't too far away from the first team squad. Jovanovic (GK) and Kostic (ML) will be promoted to the first team for back-up.
ToMexico!!
Rankings and EL Draw An improvement for the Bosnian Premier League, sat between the Hungarian Division I above and the Kazakhstan Premier League below. Further delight for Bosnian sides as we moved up 103 places in the European rankings and Zeljeznicar moved up 106 places. Siroki Brijeg are 203rd, Sarajevo 280th and Zrinjski just behind us in 288th. In Europe... We draw Estonia side Paide Linnameeskond in the 1st Qualifying Round.
ToMexico!!
Europa League 1st Qualifying Round A comfortable 5-0 home win secured the tie in the first leg, we complacently lost 3-2 in Estonia. That win sets up a tie with Rijeka of Croatia in the 2nd Qualifying Round.
ToMexico!!
Europa League 2nd Qualifying Round Hammered 4-1 away in the first leg, saw the tie get away from us. Happy with the draw at home though. We met the boards expectations of reaching the 2nd Qualifying Round though.
ToMexico!!
2023 Youth Intake No golden generation, they suggest Milovanovic as the most gifted.... Well, they were wrong! pretty awful intake saying that. We do have a 5* PA player though, a GK. Looking at the squad as a whole we're seriously starting to lack in the full back areas. Time to change the HoYD again I think anyway. Here's the best player from the intake, will become a good back up option no doubt.
ToMexico!!
The Run-In It's a three-horse race and its the first time we've realistically got a chance of winning the title. Both Brijeg and Zeljeznicar have won the title in the past two seasons, so it would be awfully nice of them to let us have this one.
