  1. Eventually though, we managed to do some decent business, I think. First, the OUTS: Moving players on was a huge challenge. They are all on such fat wage packets at Everton that no one wanted them! We eventually managed to move on Andre Gomes, Cenk Tosun, Rondon, Townsend, Keane, Iwobi and Coleman (he wanted a new challenge and he sure as hell got one!) for permanent moves. In the case of Yerry Mina, Gbamin, Nkounkou and Gibson we had to make do with loan deals. For a number of these players like Keane & Iwobi we also had to agree to continue to pay a substantial % of their wages. So through the above efforts we managed to raise about 22 million for the club and cut the weekly wage bill from 2.2m per week to around 1.7m, a saving of 500k. The clean up has officially begun... now the incomings: I am primarily focused on young players who can really add some quality to the team, will not come on ridiculous wages and who's value will only rise during their time with us (with some exceptions). We have brought in 4 players who will play an important role in the first team squad this season. We needed a new RW and after losing out on Madueke & Richards we finally got Ismaila in. He continues the transfer trend from Watford to Everton with them rapidly becoming an unofficial feeder club. I have managed him before on FM22 with Senegal and really look forward to seeing what he will do for us. The second big move is young French defender Oumar Solet from RB Salzburg, we decided to make a late move for him when Sporting Lisbon took Yerry Mina's wage bill off our hands. Between him and Branthwaite I am hoping they can develop a solid long-term CB partnership for us. Another Omar, this time its the transfer-listed English (& Jamaican) left back who decided to join us on a cut price deal from Bayern. He will provide stiff competition to Mykolenko for the left sided wing back role. And finally a bit of a fun transfer, as I had no money left and needed a squad player for central midfield. In comes Arturo Vidal, bags of experience and still fairly good as you can see! He has also since become a team leader and is tutoring some youngsters as well. Win win!
  2. Bit of a frustrating summer as we lost out on key targets to clubs which we really should have prevailed over. Shows how far Everton have fallen behind... Apart from the above, Madueke rejected us to go sit on the bench at Liverpool.
  3. Just had a quick catch up with this thread! Love your idea behind it. And congratulations on the cup win! Keep it up
  4. Yes looking at the league table you had posted Ajax seemed like the best bet.
  5. Thanks a lot! Happy that you enjoyed that and hope you will this one as well. And yes the finances are going from bad to worse... Indeed! Should have another update up tomorrow.
  6. Solid and very busy couple of months there! Isco's physical stats have taken a real beating it seems however if you can get the best out of his technical ability he may do a good job for you yet.
  7. Lol thanks mate. I do hope to at least be serving up European football by the time we move to our shiny new stadium!
  8. Congratulations on the cup win mate! Any of the big jobs may be available in the summer?
  9. We did have a decent intake with 2 young Welshmen who may well make it into the first team if they can fulfill their undoubted potential. I will certainly be keeping a close eye on their development.
  10. The first season summary is going to be short & sweet. There were no deadline day transfers as there was no money and no takers for my players. Here are the fixtures for the 4 months we played out. Feb started well with 8 points from 4 league games which lifted us well above the relegation zone. March not so good, the only highlight a solid home win over Spurs. April was phenomenal - an unbeaten month capped off with a 4-0 thumping of challengers Man Utd at Goodison and a hard fought point at Anfield. However the squad clearly went on holiday a bit early, with a chastening run of defeats in May coupled with an embarrassing 1-5 scoreline at West Ham. The final league table shows that we actually only improved by 1 position since when we came in, from 15th to 14th. I was hoping to finish with a positive goal difference but it wasn't to be.
  11. This brings us to the league table at the time of taking over: Just staying out of the relegation zone on goal difference. Suffice to say, it has not been a pleasant season so far. I was happy(?) to see that the financial problems at the club seem to be well reflected in the game. We start with a negative balance of 56m, projected to only get worse with time. Not to mention a huge amount of debt. And a number of over-paid mediocre players who will definitely be hard to get rid off. But it will most certainly be sell before we can buy!
  12. Some "notes" or house rules for this save: - pace of play will probably be a fair bit slower than what it usually is for me due to real life being very busy, but I will still post regular updates - I want to approach this save realistically as I always do - which means the tactical set-up will be built from scratch and I will only sign players my scouts find - I will definitely NOT be signing a bunch of recognized FM wonderkids and creating an all-star team - the focus will instead be on incremental progress and changing the club culture - I will be financially prudent as Everton are IRL now due to the high amount of debt accrued and FFP problems - Everton have a famous academy and a focus of this save will definitely be to bring a few players through - Overall I am looking at a 5-6 year horizon to make Everton competitive and at least end their 28 year trophy drought, although I won't be too disappointed if we don't win the league as that would be not very realistic
  13. Hello everyone! I finally have a new thread up & running. Hope you guys will like it Thanks as always for your support & feedback.
  14. Hello all! I am back after probably my longest FM break in as long as I can remember. And it's going to be a pretty different save this time. I usually have at least a couple of long saves in England and they are invariably fallen giants in the lower leagues - think Derby, Sheff Wed, Sunderland, etc. However this time we are going to do it differently. We are going straight into the Premier league, at a struggling club, with huge issues and demanding fans & owners. And let's see if we can turn things around. The situation at Everton FC in-game is similar to real life - although it seems like they may well pull off a miraculous escape IRL. To make matters worse of course, cross-town neighbours and sworn enemies Liverpool are going through a golden period of success and rightfully regarded as one of the best club sides in the world at the moment. On a side note, I am hoping my real life passionate despise of Liverpool drives me on in this save. The date we take over at Goodison Park in game is the same date which Lampard took over - 31st January 2022. But this time instead it is a former club legend (who over time became a bit of a cult hero) who will be taking the reigns. Wish me luck!
  15. Excellent updates as per usual, and really rooting for you in that cup final! Although judging by the league positions, it seems like Feyenoord has assembled a pretty strong squad?
