  1. Really a sad day for me.

I've been playing FMT on IPAD/Android since 2015 and was, untill now, my number one game choice.

So sad that, from this day on, my only option on tablets will be FM Mobile that as nothing to do with the realism that FMT gave us.

At least is there any way to make available some sort of data uptade (transfers uptade) for the android/IOS version of FMT21? Or make a app that allow us to make some sort of data changes? @Neil Brock

Anyway, apreciate the honesty by @Miles Jacobson. It's a purely comercial decision, and the it's probably the wise one. Also apreciate that they decided to make the announcement so early.

  2. @Alex Pitt

Hi, I'm buying the new xiaomi tablet, the mipad 5, that was just released.

Will FMT21 be available to download in the play store?

Because it's a newer tablet is not on the compatibity list, but the xiaomi mipad 4 is, and the mipad 5 has much better specs.

    Edit:

Well, the tablet arrived yesterday, and I could installed FMT21 without any issues. It runs very well and the 3D graphics are so much better, in comparison with the graphics in the Xiaomi Mipad 4.

  3. Hi,

In my current save i've been using the deep version of the 4231 that @Cleoncreated, with only some minor changes.

    DLF(a)

    W(s)                  AMC(s)                   IF(a)

    DM(s)      VOL(a)

    WB(a)      CD(d)        CD(d)     WB(s)

    GK(d)

    Mentality: Positive

    TI's: POOD, Counter-Press, Higher D-Line, Press More

    PI's:

    AMC(s): take more risk passes

    DM(s): Hold Position

The tactic is been working great. I'm playing with Benfica and so far had no problem winning in domestic league.

But recently i play against Porto away, drawn 0-0, but it was out of pure luck. They dominate every aspect of the game.

They play a very pressing 442, and i could just make any decent attack play.

Against Porto i used a tactic a bit more defensive.....

    DLF(a)

    W(s)                  AMC(s)                   IF(a)

    DM(d)      VOL(a)

    WB(a)      CD(d)        CD(d)     WB(au)

    GK(d)

    Mentality: Balanced

TI's: POOD, Regroup, Counter-Attack, Higher D-Line, Lower LOE, Press More

    PI's:

    AMC(s): take more risk passes

But like i said it didn't work. I pressed very high with 4 players and i couldn' play from the back. Half time i decided to drop the POOD instruction, to try to pass more directly to attack but that also didn't work.

So, any sugestions for those harder games, against teams that will press very high?

  4. Hi,

Have you try the tactic? And if so, are you getting good results?

The best way to avaluate a tactic, it's to try it. If you are getting good results... don't change a thing.

in any case, just a couple of opinions:

    1) for a underdog team, your out of possession instructions are very risky. In fact your transition and out of possession instructions are much more suited for a top team. So, keep a eye on your defence.

    2) i not a fan of simetric tactics. unless you have some PI's on the IF and CM, you are attacking the same way from both flanks. Changing some roles to have some variation could be a good idea.

But in the end.... results are the key factor,

  5. There are roles that, because of is specifically are harder to use right in the game, because you need players with the right set of attributes to fill the role.

If you give a player the CWB role, and he don't have the right attributes it can be a disaster.

Bare in mind that, in the end, it's the players that play the game, so, first you need good players, and not just set a nice combination of roles and duties.

If i use a possession based 4-3-3 with a defend duty DM, i would rather use 2 roaming roles on 2 CM strata (or roaming PI activated on both) for increasing movement and creating more space similar to Guardiola's Barcelona.

I agree with you, but only if none of the CM slots are filled with a MEZ.

Because the Mezzala not only have roam from position hardcoded, but also the get forward, and if you pair him with another player that roam from position you can easily loose your midfield stability.

So, for me I would go with a roaming playmaker and a box-to-box midfielder, or a BBM with a CM with roam from position PI.

When I use a MEZ (support or attack duty) I prefer to pair him with a more "static" player like a DLP(s) or a AP(s).

This might be a clue.  You'll be facing a lot of packed defences.  Using higher mentalities isn't always the answer to cracking those tough nuts so stopping it down a notch can help - you start to play a little deeper, with a little less urgency, drawing opponents out and creating better chances.

Being more aggressive can also work of course but I suspect the above is what is happening here.

    OK, I get that

But what about those games were playing with the balanced mentality will not work?

What should I do, to be more attacking, to change something in the game, but without changing the mentality?

  8. Hi,

I've came up with this tactic and my initial idea was playing with a Positive Mentality.

Playing with a top team, at least in domestic games, so I thought that I could afford the extra risk and go with a Positive Mentality.

Tactic is very simple, with very few Ti's.

In terms of pressing, I'm using a split block with the 3 advanced players + the CM(a) with instructions to press more. I also added the PI to take more risks to the right winger and the PI to roam from position to the CM(a).

Thing is... My team don't play well with a Positive Mentality... But wins every game with a Balanced Mentality. And when I say win... Is really winning with 16 wins and only 2 draws in the last 18 games.

We create more chances, play better football.

Now, why this happens? Whats the key factor that change so much the tactic going from positive Mentality to a balanced one? Is it tempo? Passing directness?

And this brings me to my other question... When I need to go more attacking, because I'm chancing a result, what should I do? There's no point increasing the Mentality... so what should I do?

  9. The problem, imo, with your tactic is that, by having such risky wing roles (attacking wingbacks plus inside forward on attack) you need to be a bit more conservative in your midfield role choices.

but instead, you have choose two roles with "roam from position" hard coded, and one of them (MEZ) with the make more forward runs also hard coded.

On top of  that you have also choose very agressive out of possession instructions, with "much more" everything.

So you are Barcelona, you will be facing teams that will defend narrow, sit deep, and wait for your attacks. And you will attack, with a very high D-Line, with the wide players very high up in the pitch, with both midfield players getting into the box... leaving poor half-back and both central defenders in the back,

You don't have anyone to recycle the ball when you are in possession, so i'm not surprise that you are having difficulties to score, and are conceding opportunities for your opponent to counter attack you.

I suggest that you change the out of possession instructions to something less agressive... perhaps higher D-Line, standard LOE and more pressing. Change your RPM(s) to a DLP(s) so that, in combine with the HB(d) you'll get two players in the back to recycle possession and change one of the Wingbacks to a support duty.

    Something like this:

    DLF(s)

    IW(s)                                       IF(a)

    DLP(s)         MEZ(s)

    HB(d)

    WB(a)      CD(d)      CD(d)      WB(s)

    SK(s)

Don't know if DLF(s) is the right choice for Griezmann, perhaps F9 or even T(a) could suit better his atributes.

Now, for the in possession instructions i don't understand the idea of having much shorter passing, with POOD with WBIB and narrow width. On top of that you are also giving the TI to dribble less...  in a team like Barcelona that have excelent dribblers...

Anyway, i think your instructions are taking away the unpredictability style of play that a team like Barcelona should have, and have the players to play it. I would remove the WBIB, narrow width, dribble less and much shorter passing, and just go with the POOD and be more expressive instructions.

Balanced mentality seems a good option in terms of mentality.

I would probably also choose the "counter press" instruction.

  10. There is no such thing as "less instructions is better" or "just click in all instructions and it will work".

A tactic, any tactic, to work needs:

    - a formation (any, one that you like). All can work. Some better. Some worse... Depending on the ME version. The 442 is always a good choice.

    - a set of instructions, more or less, that are logic between them. And don't forget, by setting the mentality you are already setting a bunch of instructions by default.

    - a group of players, with the necessary attributes, so that they can fulfil the criteria implemented by the formation, and roles, and instructions that you set yearly.

The reason people struggle so much in this game is:

    - everybody can set a formation.

    - many don't know what instructions they should choose in order to make the team play the way they want. (this, for me, is th key point and something that SI fails because they haven't find a way to properly explain)

    - almost everybody forget the players they have in their teams, and think its the same to have a team full of Ronaldo"s an Messi's or a team with less than average players.

In the end, and just like irl, luck is important. So you can have a tactic, play a save and win the Premier league with Newcastle, and with the same tactic get relegated in a different save.

Tip of advice.... just have fun... Its just a game. :)

PS: I usually use very few instructions, because many I don't see any difference in my game play when I choose them!! :D

  11. @crusadertsar

I never use the PI to stay wider combine with the roam from position. Because i thought the stay wider instruction could mitigate the effect of the roam from position instruction. Gonna try in my tactic.

I use a very similar tactic, and set of instructions by the way. Except i don't use the higher tempo and the counter instruction.

I also, instead of the CM(d) use a DM(s) on the defensive midfield line. And a WB(s) instead of the IWB(s).

But gonna try the IWB(s) and giving the IW(s) the stay wider instruction. Because in my current tactic sometimes the MEZ(a) with a WB(s) behind him leaves big spaces. Perhaps with the IWB(s) could work better.

Dont know what to tell you guys, other than i know it is kind of weird but somehow it works, and even agains the big teams.

In my first season i CL i got a result like this. We are able to control possession so well.

And thank you for all the suggestions. i will try them, and see if i see a difference

Please, don't take my words in the wrong way.

The most important thing in FM is enjoy the game, no matter the way you play the game.

And, if the tactic is working, then great, just keep using it and have fun. I think that many times we forget to have fun and get to strict about the way FM should reflect real life football... and forget that FM is a game.

But, when we look at your tactic.... 3 defenders... 4 playmakers... All players upfront attacking... And th instructions... :D... so many... just got me thinking how well the match engine is working.

But never forget the most important thing about the game... If you are winning... Then you can you must be doing something right!!

 Basically having all the instructions possible selected and it still works. Simply amazes me.

So I wonder if he opted for not having any instructions at all, the results probably wouldn't be all that bad

    Could be.

    But it's funny,

That tactic is almost a classic example of all the this things that common sence tell us that shouldn't work.... even the player roles are so strange... and yet...it works.

i wonder, if SI, when is testing the game, test the ME with this kind of tactics....

  14. i would just change the forward role to a DLF(a).

Reason is, your style of play is a little bit less direct, and more a built from the back style of play, so a forward more creative and that participates more in the built up could be beneficial.

But of course, it goes all down with the type of players you have in your team.

The problem might arise when the player does not possess suitable attributes for that trait in the first place. As is simetimes the case with the starting players. Like why does Darwin Nunez have "beat the offside trap" when he has really low "off the ball" (10 I believe)? He wouldn't even be able to learn it in the first place. Then with Luis I think he is not the most technical passer and yet has "short passing". A trait which is usually reserved for very technical players. So as counterintuitive as it is, maybe you need to improve the relevant attributes before your player can unlearn the trait. Same as requirements for learning them. But I'm not a developer so maybe someone with more technical knowledge of the game could back this throry up?

Thks for the reply, but that theory don't makes much sense to me.

Pretty much what you are saying is....because the player is awful at one thing he can't stop doing it? :D

I can understand that line of thinking in terms of learning he traits, and if that really works that way in the game then fantastic job from SI. But to unlearn trait it should work precisely the other way around: If a player has a trait and don't have the necessary attributes to use that trait in the best way, then it should be even easier for him to unlearn it.

  16. This is something that i've been noticing since FM19.

Players learn new traits with ease, but it's very hard for them to unlearn a trait.

I've try to get Darwin Núnez to unlearn the trait "likes to try to beat offside trap" and so far with no luck. He is been trayint to unlearn it for more than a year. He has determination (16), teamwork (16) and work rate (17).

In FM19 and FM20 i've try to get Fiorentino Luis to unlearn the trait "play simple passes" and with no sucess. He has determination (15), teamwork (17) and work rate (15).

Don't know if this is a issue, or something intended...
