To add to previous feedback since the last update.

I have now played over 30 matches on this update, and I really do feel this is the best match engine SI have produced. People can argue long into the night about what is right for them, but for me, if I had to boil it down to one thing, it's the remarkable difference since the first beta build in your team's style being represented properly on-screen. It felt like in the original beta, no matter your playstyle, you would always see endless long balls, cross field passes, volleys from 30 yards pinging into the top corner. When I play the game now, not only is the style I want the team to play getting more cohesive as the matches go by, but also my (and the AI's) tactical changes are having a real visual effect. I have never made so many in-game changes in any other version of FM than this one. It feels (for me) like actually going up against another manager.

This feedback is all based on a save from the VNN in England, so I don't know how the engine changes have been implemented at a more elite level. But right now, I'm enjoying FM more than I have for about 2 years now. Which is nice.

Couldn't agree more. The ME is in a right place right now and doesn't need further tweaks imo. Of course, it will never be perfect and improvements can always be made but as things stand, it's better than previous FM versions for sure.

  2. Fired up the updated beta to test the new ME myself and after playing few matches, I have to say job well done SI. The ME is now beautiful. :applause::thup:.

Here's my feedback on the new ME:

    Pros-

    1) No excessive long shots issues.

    2) No excessive yellow/red cards issues.

    3) No lack of crossing issues. My players cross when it's on.

    4) No lack of dribbling issues. My players dribble when it's on.

    5) No unrealistically high amount of shots.

    6) No shots from impossible angles.

    7) No stupid long balls from the back.

    8) No sleeping defenders when long balls are played in behind. Although reaction time can still be improved for the defenders but it's not a big deal for now.

    9) Good intelligent passing and decisions not just from my team but from AI as well.

No major issues so far. If I find one, I'll post it but as it stands, love the game now and I'm going to start my first long term save. See ya'll next year. It has been a pleasure. :hammer:

I just watched a streamer's game where he had about 40 shots with his Leicester team against Newcastle. He is playing a regular 4-2-3-1. In his previous match Liverpool did the same to him. I am sorry but the ME just looks so unrealistic at the moment. Weaker defenses can't stop the stronger teams creating chances after chances, and I guess to keep the scorelines realistic the conversion rate is so low. Not enjoyable.

I understand we need more differentiation between strong teams and weak teams but surely 40 shots is too unrealistic specially in a Leicester vs Newcastle match. If it was a friendly match against a 4th tier club, it could be justified but surely Newcastle can't concede 40 shots against any team in the world. We definitely need more balanced ME as in addition to too many shots, lots of users have reported too many yellow/red cards and penalties as well.

(I do not support Newcastle in real life)

    Good variety for me.

I had two world class Paul Pogba long range goals, plenty of headed goals, a one on one and a one on one where he rounded the keeper.

I saw attempted cutbacks, which were cut out by the defence, lots of crosses to the back post that are getting cut out as well.

Pogba in DLP/S is pinging off some absolutely ridiculous passes into the box, often lofted passes, but they're the type I've seen him do IRL and it's great to see it happening here closer to the box - something I've seldom see from DLP/S in previous games, usually they're more long range passers for me.

If I have any complaint it would be I'm still having difficulty getting the AM involved in the build up and I'm also having a lot of difficulty getting the IF to work at ML/R - In all instalments I've had them get the ball and run, or be a goal threat. In FM20 I cannot replicate that at the moment, but I'm seeing similar movement (i.e. they get up into the box like a striker, it's just they're not doing much of the dribbling-works).

    Good feedback. Thanks.

Regarding IW/IF lack of dribbling though, have you tried them on 'Be more disciplined' tactical setting to see if they follow your instruction? IMO, lack of dribbling by them could also be due to the amount of creative freedom they are allowed to have.

Not really a "moan" as such, because it's not really a bug - but has anyone noticed that when defending deep, players don't really pick up opposition players until they either have the ball or are about to receive it?

Am I doing something wrong tactically, generally speaking? I don't really want to mark players super tightly, just more I want a full back moving in the general direction of their winger before the pass is made, not at the point he receives it.

What's the anticipation and positioning ratings of your defenders? Are they good but still behaving oddly?

the public beta solved the ridiculous accurate long pass from player, good job. I see way less long pass than before, defender deal with long ball better. My Advanceplaymaker actually create some through ball foward, look really nicea

But its seem like there too many fouls and freekick ofc course. i think they need to reduce that

    EDIT: quoted wrong post

By the way, has anyone who is managing in the lower leagues in England noticed the shockingly low level of determination among young players? A high percentage of young free agents have between 1-5 for this attribute. Is FM finally reflecting the entitled generation? Realistic if so.

I like it if that's the case. I've always felt that regens are too good and overpowered in general which I don't like. I'd rather sweat hard to find the gems among pile of average regens.

I feel that the opt in beta is way worse tbh. It just feels like fm19 all over again with players being comically slow and always crossing/shooting even though a player is standing next to them. Then the fluidity of attacking that was a key feature of fm20 is just gone, as is the excitement of watching an attack. I think that this beta is just a bandaid fix of our issues but was handled by nerfing the capability of attacking players instead of buffing defenders. Issues of FM19 like headers finding an opponent more often than not are back again as well.

What's your tactical familiarity and team cohesion? Players also make poor decisions based on this. You can't expect the team to play perfect football on first friendly of the season. More information will be good.

This picture shows what it should look like when players shoot from this angle. From the angle of the camera, sure it looks like a simple pass. Though put yourself in the players boots. He had so little time between receiving the ball and having to make a decision (in FM players are taking multiple touches with loads of time). If he takes another touch here, a recovering tackle could be made by No 8. Also the defenders positioning is decent. From our angle we can see the ball across is still on, but again in the players boots he has so little time and its difficult to spot the attacker (In FM defenders would be about 5 yards behind the attackers here). I said it on another post yesterday, the big problem in fm isn't the players shooting from these angles, the problem is that the defenders are terrible and are often so out of position that there's no excuse for the pass not being made. Imo the work has to be done on the defending for these situations, not the attacking

The defending was fine in FM19. There were never any issues in FM19 with defending as far as I can remember. But for some reason it's been 'nerfed' this year. To balance it with attacking play may be? And if that's the case then the defending has been nerfed too much. Almost to the level where it looks really dumb sometimes.

I'm currently Playing  with Hacken in Sweden but just seen AI have sacked Klopp.. Liverpool are 2nd and into Final of CL. Anyone else seen unrealistic sackings of AI managers?

That's harsh. Liverpool will not sack Klopp for that kind of results IRL.

But then asking for 'owner AI' is too much at this stage I guess. :D

Liverpool completely disappeared out of the playable leagues on one FM19 100 years into the future.

I was just surprised that even after 100 years about 90 of the 100 titles had been won by Barca or Real and the other 10 by Atletico. There's was far more variation in FM19 when people did these kind of experiments.

I know it can be off-putting for some (not enough variation in title wins 100 years into the future), but I personally see it as a challenge. I can for example takeover a club like Real Betis which has a big fanbase and has a huge potential and try to knock Real and Barca off their perch.

Comparing Roma to Man Utd is ludicrous. If it was Milan, I'd agree, but Roma have never been able to have a sustained period of success. They've been threatening to "explode" for ages and it's been a damp squib most of the time.

I never compared Man United and Roma. I just said Roma are a big club and are underachieving as are Man United. Achievement can mean different for both clubs. Winning a single title in 3 years can be described as an underachievement for Man United but can be described as achievement for Roma.

And just because Roma hasn't had a sustained period of success in the past doesn't mean they can't do it in the future. The way they are spending money every year can bring them sustained success soon if they find a decent manager. But that's just my opinion and I don't support them IRL.

And talking about big clubs, Chelsea didn't have any history before Roman Abramovich era. They created the history. So any club in future can do the same in real life as well as in FM, which is my point.
