    I have that one.

It makes picking up foreign bargains and newgens harder, at times I have to spend over £10m to sign a player which can be frustrating when a player is transfer listed for £2m and would improve my team. It means I have to massively overspend if I want the player, meaning I'm paying in instalments a lot more. My £30m transfer budgets don't help either, being a relegation candidate I can't make the bargain signings I used to make. It also makes getting decent loans in from abroad difficult as they fail to get a work permit. It's even worse at Championship level.

Ok, thanks for the answer. Was a bit worried about it being like you describe it...

what are your four requirements, curious to know

    I look at the following:

    1. Does the player fit the role/roles I want him to play? Here I look more at specific attributes than if he is 100% natural in a specific position and role. For example I play a central defender as a bwm in central midfield as he has the attributes I look for in my system.

    2. Does the player fit my club DNA for specific attributes? For example I want all my players to have high determination

    3. Does the player have a personality that I like? I tend to look for determined, professional, resolute and so on.

    4. Does the player have any cons? I don't want players with injury risks, that are inconsistent or that does not like to play big matches.

This is just how I do it, and I'm sure all of you have your own ways when it comes to looking at players :)

oh, and when it comes to Petanga he ticks the first one (I want a big and strong support striker for that role,  which he is), but he has quite low determination, is fairly ambitious and does not enjoy big matches :p

Josef Martinez is very good - he's doing well in the EPL in my game. Petagna and him should be a good combination for sure. Best of luck!

You are correct, Martinez is actually looking quite good, and to be honest he was my second coiche target behind musa barrow.

Petagna also looks good, but he only fits one out of four requirements that I have for new signings (at least first team signings) so I'm still a little bit disappointed  ;)

  4. Blackburn 2019/20 pre-season - disappointment

So it has been a though transfer window for us. As mentioned earlier we will try to go for low-block 442, which meant we needed some new players. However, it was difficult to bring good players in. Either they wanted too much salary, or another team came in and snatched them. This is what has happened for us:

    2019_20_preseason_transfers.thumb.png.87b8c1376364abd012e8e376434f26f5.png

Pontus jansson is the only one I like (I'm a Swede so needed some fellow countrymen  ;) ). However,  this is what we managed to get. We also sold some players,  but our finances looks quite bad so I only get 10% from transfers.

Another thing that is a dispointmmet is the set pieces. Not sure if it is a bug,  but the players rarely end up where I want them. This is especially true for attacking throw-ins where my centerbacks, that I have placed in the box, are hovering close to the halfway line...

So to sum up I'm quite negative about our chances to stay up,  but we will for sure give it a try! First up is wolves away.

  5. Blackburn Rovers – End of season 18/19 - Champions!

So we did it! We won the championship! To be honest I have some mixed feelings about this. I'm really happy to have gained promotion to the PL, but on the other hand I was planning (and sort of lokkings forward to) at least two season in championship. Also, I'm a little bit disappointed on how we ended the season. In the last three fixtures we only managed to get two points, but the others were not good enough to catch us.

    So whats next?

Well the PL is waiting, and we are not even close to having a good enough squad. So in other words: A really busy transfer window is waiting! We have around 35 million to spend. I will ofc look to sell some players, especially those that have not lived up to my expectations (yes, I'm looking at you, Bradely Dack!).

The plan is to try to build a low-block 442 and see if we can survive in the PL with it. Focus will be on counters and set pieces, so basically I'm trying to rebuild Leicester ;) First of I will try to get a really good-in-the-air CB, and also try to find a good striker with some speed in him.

  6. Blackburn Rovers – April 2019 - Battle of the top 3

So we are sitting at 1st place! But it is really tight. We have 86, and both Derby and Bristol have 83. Leeds are 4th with 79, but with 5 games left to play I dont really count them in (they also have much worse GD so basically they are 8 points behind us).

I'm proud that we have reached the playoffs already in the first season. As I wrote in my first post I expect atleast two seasons in the chmpionship so from now on everything is a bonus this season :-)  Hopefully I will be done with the season sometime next week and I will then try to do a end of season review.

  7. So I have been planning to write in this thread for a while, but I never get the time :p

Anyhow, I want to give this a go :)

    Club: Blackburn Rovers
Why: Blackburn have some nice history, and also in this case I like that they start with an OK transfer budget (which made it possible to bring in Sandro Tonali from Brescia).
Goal: Get Blackburn in to PL, and also have a strong focus on developing young players (like Tonali).

    Blackburn Rovers – January 2019

So unfortunately I’m at work right now so I can’t attach any pics, but I will try to do that at a later time. Right now we are at the end of January and we are sitting 2nd in the table. However, it is extremely tight at the top. We, Bristol City (1st) and Derby (3rd) are within two points of each other, and the other three are just behind us. I really like (and sometimes dislike :P) how competitive this league is!

Before I started the save my plan was to establish us as a middle league team the first season, and then push for top 6 the second season. Right now it looks like we are quite stable as at least a top 6 team, but my plan still remains so when doing transfers I do it after my plan. Speaking of transfers, this is what has happened:

    ### IN ###

    Sandro Tonali from Brescia

    Antonio Marin from Dinamo

Philipp Wollscheid on a free transfer

    Leandro Cardoso from Maritimo (January)

    ### ### ###

    ### OUT ###

    Dominic Samuel

    Richie Smallwood (January)

    Elliot Bennett (January)

    ### ### ###

From above the most important player for me was Sandro Tonali. He is also the reason why I choose Blackburn so that I could use their transfer budget to bring him in. I want to see how good I can develop him, and where he can take us.

When it comes to tactics and player performance we run a quite standard 4-1-4-1 DM wide, with the wingers in AM strata. Mulgrew and Wollscheid have been very good for us as the 1st CB pair. Mulgrew also delivers some good corners, which we tend to score some goals from. Wollscheid actually get some goals and assist from this. Sandro Tonali is playing as DPL in midfield, and he is doing pretty well from there. He is developing nicely, and I really like his PPMs. Also Derrick Williams and Ryan Nyambe are doing OK as DL and RB.

As already mentioned I still plan for us to not advance to PL this season (and I really expect the “FM-mid-season-drop to happen soon” ;) ). That is why I choose to bring in Leandro Cardoso in January, whom I hope will develop nicely in the championship. If we would advance to PL this season that is just a (big) bonus :)
I hope I can update this post with some pics, and that I can do a more proper season end review.

  8. @Peljam Really enjoying your posts. Keep up the good work!

I'm gonna give the long ball tactic another go,  where I want to build a direct and strong team. Club DNA will most likely include bravery, determination, workrate and teamwork.

Also, I want to play 442, and one of the most important players should be the targetman.

Now I just need to find a fun team to start with :)

Not sure how everyone else is doing with the glorious hoofball in FM19 but I've been struggling (until my latest season). I made a few rookie errors and got to the point were I had a flat back 5 and an anchor man hoofing to increasingly isolated (and rubbish) strikers. It was not effective and although I was getting most of my goals from long balls, through balls and deep crosses I wasn't getting many goals overall, and I was shipping a lot of goals in return. I did (across two seasons) have the most tackles, fouls and yellow cards - and the least possession.

I think the biggest mistake I made was ignoring the cautious mentality on the pre-set. I just thought I couldn't attack properly with a cautious mentality, that cautious would equal less shots and attacking would equal more. But actually having the cautious mentality means the long balls are actually more useful long passes that penetrate the defense properly, and if you have the right movement you end up with quite a few shots.

I moved to a new club (Portadown, a step up from Grantham and Scarborough) and started from scratch. Made a few changes to the general instructions, and to the fullback instructions. I have a 442 now and it is working wonders. I'm scoring more, I have more shots (with my old system I averaged about 6 shots a game. I'm now averaging about 13), and I have more clean sheets. The goals are mainly from long passes, crosses from deep or from set piece scrambles.

I've actually got 3 versions of the 442. One that is pure long ball (and is doing wonders), one that is based on the direct counter preset, and a 442 for retaining possession (which I've not used much but is there if I need to protect a lead against a smaller side).

If they work this season I'll post the long ball one. The main changes though from the preset have been to add pass into space, lower time wasting, distribute to the centre backs, and to change both fullbacks to cross from deep + cross to targetman.

I have tried to create a longball tactic with a poacher and a TM, but have been unsuccessful so far. Hope this works for you because it would be interesting to hear more about your tactic.

If you don't mind me asking, what roles do you use on the midfield flanks? Do you stick to the preset roles?

  10. Hi!

Stupid question,  but if you want a player to learn/unlearn a ppm and the coach responds with something like: "I don't see him able to do that,  I recommend x move instead".

Does that mean that the player can never learn/unlearn that specific ppm? Or can I find another coach with for example higher level of discipline, and then the chance to learn the ppm will increase?

  11.  Hi!

"New" to this forum (been reading here for years now, but I have never written anything) and I have a stupid question :-)

Regarding friendly matches, are they totally pointless? I remember reading somewhere that there is no idea to test your tactic in those matches because they will not tell you anything useful. Anyone know if this is really the case?
