  1. Because the EFL are idiots. I think you knew that really
  2. Bringing Rashford and Grealish on when we are 3-0 up. WHY IS HE SO CAUTIOUS FFS.
  3. Bit harsh on Rashford. But probably the best option off the bench if you want something fresh with half an hour to go. Feels like there is more chance of him coming on in the second half and sniffing out a goal compared to Saka. Squad game innit.
  4. Good to see the England boys getting another grilling from Kelly Somers. This time just sitting watching some old England footage ffs, this is pathetic. She belongs in a PR agency, doesn’t deserve to call herself a journalist or a broadcaster. Absolute waste of space.
  5. Yeah, Wenger has just become a mouthpiece for FIFA the last few years. This isn't even the most ridiculous thing he's said tbf. Best just ignore it
  6. Poland have got to turn up today, surely. Probably shown the least out of all the R16 teams so far.
  7. Should be alright today, Gareth will have everyone's feet on the ground. But it's one of those. Go through and it's "only Senegal". Go out and it's a disaster and it probably would cost the great man his job this time. Just need to try and get the job one with minimum fuss. Hopefully no extra time or penalties required. Bit like Ukraine at the Euros so another 4-0 would be nice.
  8. You’d definitely have Pickford over 2004 David James or 2006 Paul Robinson. Beyond that, not sure.
  9. 2002 we had Gary Neville and Gerrard out injured, and Shearer had retired. But 2000 and 2004 and 2006 we should have been right up there. People going on about all the once-in-a-generation talent Gareth has got to play with. Still don’t think there are many players in the current squad that get into any of those teams.
  10. Off the top of my head Winterbottom didn’t win any Ramsey won 3 (66 QF. SF, Final) Robson won 3 (R16 in 86, R16 and QF In 90) Venables won 1 (96 QF) Eriksson won 2 (2002 R16 and 2006 R16) Surely there have been more than that? Nine wins in 66 years between 1950 and 2016? Christ alive. Suppose they didn’t have R16 in the old days though. And the old Euros were small and hard to qualify for. And the 82 World Cup had two group stages. But it’s still an awful record for a so-called big team. EDIT: When I remembered we actually won the World Cup
  11. Matchday! Quick reminder this is Southgate’s ninth tournament knockout game. Where the nine previous knockout games spanned 18 years and six different managers.
  12. Foden and Rashford keeping their places apparently. Dunno if that means we are unchanged, I doubt it. I would be surprised if he doesn’t put Sterling back in when Sterling has played so many big tournament games. But then you have to move Foden into the middle even though Gareth has been saying he doesn’t play there. Or whatever it was he said. But you could bring Sterling back in as well, drop Henderson back out. Go Sterling-Foden-Rashford with Rice and Bellingham behind.
  13. 27 years since we last played an international in the month of December.
  14. There are better left backs in England and we didn't pick them
  15. Oh, and Messi goes LEVEL with Paolo Maldini on 23 World Cup games. Joint third on the all-time list. Reminder that he is on course to break the record if Argentina make the semis. Semi final would be his 25th game, then either the final or the third place playoff to come. 25 - Lothar Matthaus 24 - Miroslav Klose 23 - Paolo Maldini, Lionel Messi 21 - Uwe Seeler, Władysław Żmuda, Diego Maradona
  16. Believe it or not, there have been some previous competitive meetings between these two. They ended up in a two-legged playoff for one of the final places at USA 94. Argentina weren't good enough to take one of the three automatic CONMEBOL spots that year, even though they had just won the Copa America. So they ended up in the inter-continental playoffs. Won 1-0 in Buenos Aires after the Aussies held them to a 1-1 draw in Sydney. Also the Confederations Cup in Germany in 2005. 4-2 win for Argentina in Nuremberg. I was actually at that game Can't remember much about it though.
  17. Kelly Somers is dreadful. I don’t miss the days where the press constantly had the knives out and were trying to trip the players and the manager up at every turn. But she is so far the other way it’s embarrassing. ”You had a brilliant game the other day!” ”What’s it like being a top England player?” ”Everyone at home would love to know how amazing it is playing at the World Cup!” Just so grateful even to be in the room with them it’s nauseating.
  18. Another sycophantic “interview” with an England player when we could be talking about the Netherlands game
  19. Yeah cards aren’t wiped until after the quarters nowadays. Used to get wiped earlier but then you had players missing the final because of an accumulation of yellows in the knockout games. Now you can only miss the final if you get a straight red in the semi
