  1. The Premier League has been a really tough challenge and it took us 10 games to win a single game. Bob Sterry, our star striker had a scoring rate of 165 goals in 392 games before this season (first three seasons he played as an AMC as well). This season he has scored 2 goals in 19 games!! The difference in quality between the Championship and the Premier League is even bigger now (2032) than it was in the start of the save I think. So we have to treasure the highlights and we just had a great one. A 4-1 win over relegation competitors West Ham. A hat trick from our left winger Steve Brazil! Brazil is originally a left back, but our vise-captain Shane Ireland has that spot and he is very consistent. Brazil has good pace and good anticipation, so he has been trained as a left winger and I've trained him to be very direct and to knock the ball past opponents. This game he perfected that! A fantastic win to boost morale, and we might just make it! I'm also posting a screenshot of our defender Ryan Hughes. I honestly think he can become a world class defender.
  2. Thanks! Yes, I think Ryan Hughes can become a top level defender to be honest. Let's hope a year in the Premier League can help his progress along! The finances are looking better after a takeover from a local businessman. Not a rich uncle, but a solid owner. With a new stadium and massive TV-money coming next season the goal will be to focus on the facilities and upgrade those as much as I can. I hope to sign as few new contracts as possible with the players. Most of them have more than one year left on their deal and I don't want to pay Premier League size salaries to what is mostly League 2/League 1 quality players
  3. South Shields Season Summary 2031-2032 Premier League, here we come!! A miracle promotion! We were tipped to finish bottom of the table, but 38 rounds later we secure promotion with a goalless draw away at Stoke. Derby didn't manage a win away at Sunderland and that means South Shields will play Premier League football next season!! We started the season poorly, only winning 4 out of our first 13 games. I thought this would be a long battle against relegation, but after some changes to the tactics and player instructions our luck changed. We only lost three games from January until the season finished and with great form comes great luck. We secured several wins in the last few minutes of matches, with several different players stepping up as match winners. Ross Finnie is a fantastic goalkeeper and the fact we now have a great GK is the biggest difference from previous seasons. How we can survive in the Premier League is a mystery, but with all the money coming in we will just have to take it as a great experience. We had a great run in the FA Cup, reaching the quarter finals, where we got knocked out by Wolves 1-2 at home. We are moving into a new 15 000 seat stadium this summer. Great for the club, but almost a shame it's not 12 months away, as our 5000 seat stadium wouldn't meet the Premier League license demands and we probably would have had to loan an even bigger stadium for a year, getting even more income. We have by far the lowest salary costs in the Championship and Bob Sterry, our top goal scorer, will now sign a new deal (offered straight after the last game of the season). He will earn around £32k a week, that is about 50% our current salary costs for the whole club.. Hopefully we won't have to spend a lot of money on new contracts, as I imagine we will go straight down. Sterry had a relegation clause in his contract and I didn't want to get relegated and lose our best striker come 12 months from now! 4. South Shields Youth Intake 2032 An intake with two great prospects and a truly standout player! Ryan Hughes arrives as a youth candidate but will go straight into the first team. Look at those stats! Yes, he is already 17, but this has to be the best player I have gotten in a youth intake. Our coaches view him as our best defender by far. Hopefully we can get him to use his right foot. Gibbons and O'Hanlon also looks good, hopefully they can develop nicely. On central midfield and full backs we are now looking good, but I hope for a striker in next years intake!
  5. Club takeover! Our struggling finances are saved, for now! A new owner has put £5 million into the club, wiping out our red numbers. Great news, and with our new 15 000 seat stadium being completed this summer, things are looking better financially!
  6. Well, is it though? I don't think its realistic that a club that goes from Vanarama South to the Championship and almost don't see any increase in sponsorship income.
  7. South Shields Season Summary 2030-2031 A note before the season summary: It is absolutely ridiculous that our club should struggle financially when we have the lowest salaries in the league (I think we have 25% yearly salary costs compared to the club with the second lowest salaries), but we have sponsorship income like we are still in the Vanarama. We have £730k in total sponsorship revenue!!!! In the Championship! Yes, we have a 5100 capacity stadium, we will get a new one next year, but the fact that SI haven't corrected such an easy problem shows that they dont care at all about the hardcore group of FM players who do challenges and actually does something more than just plug-and-play saves with Man City and Barcelona. I'm sorry, I know that harsh, but that's the way it feels. If someone here has knowledge of coding and can tell me that it's complicated to fix this issue, please let me know, and I will retract my statement. This problem makes this challenge almost impossible if you play in one of the big leagues where you start really far down in the league ladder, England being the best example. I have been lucky as I have had quite a successful run so far so I have gotten some good prize money. But if I dont get to the Premiership within say 4-5 years, I will have to quit the save, as I would be forced to pay League 2 salaries to Championship-quality players. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A really good season and we made great progress from last year where we could have gotten relegated on the last day. A year more of experience for our very young starting 11 gave instant results and we were a lot more consistent this year. An 11th place finish is something we can be really prouf of! We showed pretty decent form throughout the whole season, never performing great and never being relly poor. Our star player Bob Sterry scored 24 league goals, just like last season, and finished 2nd in the top scorer rankings. Eddie Sheridan on the right wing had his poorest season se far, only scoring 5 and providing 7 assists, nothing compared to his 16 goals and 11 assists last year. Let's hope he turns his form around for next year. We have two really great talents in our squad, Ross Finnie in goal and Steve Brazil on the left side. Brazil has been trained to also perform naturally on the left wing and he was part of a rotation system with the left back (Ireland) and left winger (Sheridan) this season, to keep away fatigue, and also letting the star players know that they have to perform! Ross Finnie is now our star goalkeeper. I could have sold him for £10 million pounds, but I want to keep him. This challenge needs a good goalkeeper! I think he can be the next England GK, lets hope we are in the Premier League by then! Goals for next season would be to get closer to a playoff spot. We won't reach the playoffs, but we will give it the best effort we can! And only one more year before we get a 14 000 seat stadium! 8. South Shields Youth Intake 2031 A below average youth intake, but we have been lucky over the last few years, so we cant complain! Henry Swain looks like he can become a very good playmaker. The rest will probably never make it. That includes Ian Davidson, even though the coaches like him, I don't really see the potential.
  9. @grff, I really like following your career. But would like some more screenshots of your key performers!
  10. The sponsorship bug in this game is really annoying and you really feel it when playing this challenge. I play in the Championship and my sponsor income is still basically zero, like when we were in the Vanarama National. 5 months after the game was released, what a joke.
  11. South Shields Season Summary 2029-2030 Survival on the last day! How we survived this season is a mystery, but we did it somehow. Most of our players are only good enough for the Vanarama if my coaching reports are any good, but grit and luck saw us through. We were in and around the relegation zone for the entire season, but we managed to keep away in the end. A 1-0 win against Milwall on the last day secured our place in the Championship. A shocking goal difference of -33 tells the story of how bad we were at times.. After October I was sure we were going down, we were absolutely dreadful. We lost 6-0 to Milwall and our central defender Gary Smith played to a 4,5 rating. That lead to a change in tactics, playing on the counter in basically every game. During Christmas we actually went on a streak of three wins in four games and that certainly gave us some momentum. What separated us from the teams that got relegated were that we had more draws and they had more losses. Next season that might change! Our advantage is that our team will be one year older and that will help us quite a bit. Our inexperience hurt us at times, but we have to stick with it. We have Bob Sterry up front, and after a really slow start he ended the season with a fantastic 24 goals! The club will build a new 14 684 seat stadium which will see us generate a lot more match day income. Let's hope we can get some more upgrades. Btw, we have around £740k in sponsorship revenue. This has been a known bug with this game and its an absolute JOKE that it hasn't been fixed. In no reality whatsoever would a Championship team generate a revenue as low as this. But with this match engine I guess we can't expect much.... 12. He signed a youth contract that automatically turns into a 5 year contract once he turns 17
  13. South Shields Youth Intake 2030 A pretty good intake for us. The quantity of high quality players is rather low, but we got a good goalkeeper! We also got a striker with high star rating in Christian Turl, but I am not sure how good he will actually become. Danny Stubbs will be a good player for us in a couple of years. Not necessarily a starter, but he can play in several positions and is already showing good mental stats. I will post screenshots of the players below, and I will also post my current goalkeeper. The question is, who should be my first choice? Intake Goalkeepers - who should be my first choice?
  14. Thanks for the response regarding payouts in the Championship. Hopefully I will get some money at the end of the season! Probably had way too high hopes that we would have to use another clubs stadium and get huge income from day one! After 11 games it looks like it will be only one season in the Championship for a while!
  15. When you play in the Championship, you really know you have a bad team when your playmaker who's played every game so far this season is being chased by Spennymoor Town... they play in the Vanarama North...
  16. I was hoping that playing in the Championship would be a big financial boost to South Shields. 11 games in and its been nothing like that. We still play at our 5100 seat stadium and our sponsorship didn't increase when we made it to the Championship, we are basically at Vanarama South levels still.. what a joke.
  17. South Shields Season Summary 2028-2029 Championship, here we come! Our second season in League One saw us gain direct promotion to the Championship, finishing 2nd behind Shrewsbury! We finished with solid 90 points which would have been good enough to win it 6 out of the last 9 seasons. Our striker Bob Sterry finished with a remarkable 37 league goals and was the main reason behind our promotion. We got knocked out of the 1st round of the FA Cup and the 2nd round of the Carabao Cup and although that wasnt a good thing it gave us the opportunity to focus 100% on the league. We struggled a bit with injuries and plenty of suspensions, but we have finally reached the point where our backup players are capable to step up, at least for a little bit! We changed our formation a bit midway through the season, going from a 4-2-3-1 to a 4-3-2-1 with three central midfielders (still keeping our 4-1-2-2-1 for away games). This gave us more solidity in midfield and I had been foolish to think that any of our players were good enough to play in the pocket behind the striker. We were tipped dead last in League One, so how can we survive in the Championship? I don't know, but we have terrible finances, and a year alone in the Championship can turn that around. We also got our top defender Godwin Uzo to sign a new contract. All we need now is for Max Dempsey to do the same, but I think playing in the Championship will turn him around (the only chance he will get to do it to be fair). Our captain Nathan Lowe has been our best player for this entire save. This season was the first one that he wasn't our stand out performer and he lost his place to youngster Peruzzi a few rounds before the end of the season. He did get a new contract at the end of the season, but he will have a fringe role in the team next year. But he is nothing short of a legend, finishing with 7+ avg. rating for the ninth season in a row from central midfield! 18. South Shields Youth Intake 2029 A pretty good intake for us. The star ratings looks better than the qctual ability, but lets hope they can develop nicely. We are turning into a team full of full backs!
  19. So happy you're enjoying reading about my South Shields-journey! Impossible for me to wait for the update, I start the youth academy challenge on the day of release I would like to use the correct logo though, I'm guessing it's this one? https://twitter.com/SouthShieldsFC/photo Maybe there is a way I can change it in the game as well..
  20. South Shields Season Summary 2027-2028 Our first season in League One, and it was a good one. We started the season absolutely fantastic, unbeaten in the first 7 games, but after this we settled down and finished on a solid 13th place. We were top half of the table for most of the season, but around February it was obvious that making the playoffs was unrealistic. We introduced a few youngsters into the team this year. Derek Trodd, Godwin Uzo and Max Dempsey all were regular starters and performed well. We have a great CB from this years intake, Gary Smith, and he might become a starter next year if his development continues. Our legendary striker Jason Gilchrist has had a fantastic career with us, winning several top scorer trophies during our rise up the league ladder. He is now 33 years old and this season he was out of his depth. 4 goals in 17 games, and if he decides to renew his contract, he will have a backup role. Hopefully we can do a little bit better next season and go far in the FA Cup, as we can really use the cash! 21. Really looking forward to reading your updates here. Completed the challenge last year with Real Jean, so this is a club close to my heart!!
  22. South Shields Youth Intake 2028 After a couple of dissapointing youth intakes, we finally got what seems like a good one! Four strong players in Gary Smith, Elliot Dunne, Peter Bradford and Enrico Peruzzi. All of them are players most natural in central positions and I think Gary Smith can fight for a first team spot pretty soon!
  23. A fantastic start to the League One adventure with South Shields. In fear of it not continuing I had to do a short update. We are unbeaten after 7 games, our only loss has been against Middlesbrough in the first round of the Carabao Cup. We lost 5-4 on penalties, dissapointing! The two best offensive players form last year, Bob Sterry and Eddie Sheridan, have been fantastic. Sterry has 4 goals and 1 assists, Sheridan has 7 goals and 3 assists (in 7 games from AMR!). I shifted the formation a bit from last season. We now play either in a "control" 4-2-3-1 wide or a "counter" 4-1-2-2-1. In the previous seasons we have played with an attacking right full back and an attacking inside forward on the left. That has been changed now, with the left winger being an inside forward on support and the left full back on attack. This has created great combination play down the left flank and some fantastic free crosses into the box, a huge key to our success this season (success after 7 games, lol). 6-7 of our first team players left at the end of the season. Some retired and some didn't get their contracts renewed. I have gotten quite good backroom staff, with 13 first team coaches and this has made me change my philosophy a bit. I decided to promote 5-6 youngsters and put them as either first team starters or rotation players. They develop nicely from really good coaching, and its time for a shift in generation! I have put two 18 year olds straight into the first team, both debuted on the first league game. This gamble has paid off, so far... We are entering a period now of tough games and we have unfortunately three players away on international duty, including both our left backs!! We also got our left winger injured for 4-7 weeks (yes, our physio is not great...) This will be tough, so I have to brag now
  24. South Shields Season Summary 2026-2027 Promotion! After two seasons in League Two we won promotion after to League One! Last year we finished 7th with 77 points, this year we finished 3rd with 79 points! Last season Plymouth finished 3rd and they got 89 points, so needless to say, I have been very lucky! And I think we are in for a very, very tough year in League One... We got knocked out in the 2nd round of the FA Cup against League One side Peterborough. We drew 1-1 at home and lost the replay 2-0. A big shame as the winner of the return leg got to play Man Utd at Old Trafford.. We never found any fantastic run of form this season, but at the same time we never found ourselves on a really bad losing streak and I would say we were overall solid. Our 4-2-3-1 formation lets us use our star youngster Rob Sterry as a shadow striker and he scored 15 goals and had 8 assists this year. Luckily he signed a new contract after the promotion, he only had one year left and I feared I would lose him. The best performer of the year was right winger Eddie Sheridan. 14 goals and 14 assists from AMR, and plenty of the goals came in narrow 1-0 wins. Our striker Jason Gilchrist have been fantastic for us, scoring a fantastic 160 goals in my first 6 seasons as South Shields manager. This year he only managed 18, and with so many league games and being my penalty taker as well that isnt to impressive to be honest. I might use Rob Sterry as a striker next season and change our formation, making the AMC a DMC instead. We finally have a decent goalkeeper. We have tried four different goalkeepers over the last few years, but this year 19 year old Peter Hards has stepped up and he is progressing nicely. Youth wise its terrible to be honest. The players I send out on loan are not getting any better, in fact they are getting worse! I always keep players in the club until they are 18, then I loan them out, but I am at a loss at the moment. I have basically nothing coming up.. Godwin Uzo is probably the top talent, but we already have a very good young left back. Can he become a good CB? We got big upgrades to facilities and youth department at the end of the season. How we are going to finance it is beyond me... The goal for next season will obviously be to avoid relegation. Rob Sterry has a relegation clause in his contract and I will 100% certainly lose him if we go down.
