Also imagine finding that boring. Or 'cagey'. Clueless about the game if you can't enjoy two teams actually trying to play football

I think some people expect loads of goals or chance after chance for a game to be exciting. Which is of course not always the case as here, as while the goal isn't exactly being peppered both teams like you say are trying to play football, and doing a damn good job of it too.

  2. Let's face it, this tournament was always going to a **** show one way or another with the pan-European stuff mixed with Covid. One or more teams were always going to get an advantage. It should have been hosted in one country, but that's UEFA for you.

Read an incredible quote about that the other week, something from the ref that I’d never seen before. Basically said he didn’t see because his view was blocked but he “knew” there must have been a foul because he would have expected the keeper to claim it otherwise.

I think that goal gets given if we aren’t up against the hosts. Not sure about the Argentina one :D

I saw that too in Four Four Two. And they said "why he was right all along." I hadn't actually seen the incident in years until I read that article, and it just annoyed me :D keeper just flaps at the ball and gets a foul ffs.

I think most refs give it in fairness because keepers get ridiculous decisions, but I just cannot see anything Campbell or Terry do that's a foul.

Of course, wasn't having a pop at Stones. The delayed Euro's, as I've said before was something that has aided England as you mention with several of the younger players getting an extra season of senior football and Phillips playing in the PL for the first time, although he did get called up when Leeds were in the Championship iirc, he's a better player now than he would've been 12 months ago.

There's a good half dozen that might well not have made the squad had the Euro's taken place as originally intended.

Phillips was called up in September, so we were in the PL but hadn't played a game yet because of the delayed season start. The extra year undoubtedly cemented his place in the euro squad, though Southgate had had his eye on him since just after the world cup and there was a suggestion he was possibly going to be in the March squad before covid buggered everything up.

Verratti is a top player and there aren't many around who can do what he does. But I think in a few years you'll look back and probably laugh at a Rice and Phillips midfield. Even more so if England win the whole thing. Because I can see Mount, Foden, Bellingham all becoming really good central midfielders. I think it's clear already Foden would be better off in central midfield for a Southgate-led England team

Think it's being exceptionally harsh to say we'll laugh at a Rice/Phillips midfield when they've had an outstanding tournament, Phillips especially. There's better midfields sure, but they were key components against Croatia and Germany (after a rough first 10 minutes.)

Yep. 60,000 in on Wednesday night too. I've been a little critical of Wembley in the past, the prawn sandwich brigade etc but it was fantastic in the Germany game and there's going to be even more in for the Denmark game. Should be roaring.

In fairness, for big games like FA cup finals and things the atmosphere has always been really good at Wembley. We've just not really had all that many big England games at Wembley, we've not struggled in qualifiers for ages for example. Was nice to have a brilliant atmosphere for the Germany game and I'm sure it will be great again on Wednesday.
