Stuniverse
Preview -- -- After going seven without a win, Åsane have now won two on the spin so we know this won't be an easy game at the Åsane Arena. We're unbeaten in 13 though which gives us a lot of confidence. -- Expected Line-up Our new signing Niklas Ødegård will probably be on the bench for this one. Stuniverse
Sunday 3rd August 2031 Åsane (11th) v Viking (1st) Eliteserien -- -- -- We started as well as I've seen us start a match today and we nearly blew Åsane away inside the first 10 minutes. Isak Amundsen scored his first goal of the season after five minutes. Jakob Napoleon Romsaas doubled our lead with an acrobatic volley two minutes later. Anders Hartveit Ryste then had a goal ruled out for offside a minute after that. And bizarrely, I can't really explain it, that offside goal affected us and Åsane seemed to gain confidence. Åsane pulled a goal back on 34 minutes. Initially we thought Jonas Drønen was a mile offside but the ball was actually played when he was in his own half. Just. The game became very jittery after that, at least for us, but Anders Hartveit Ryste made it 3-1 after just over an hour and that settled our nerves. We managed the last 25 minutes plus well and deserved the victory. -- Edited May 4 by Stuniverse
Stuniverse
Preview -- -- Niklas Ødegård is a quality player and, when the opportunity arose to bring him to the SR-Bank Arena, we had to do everything we could to get the deal done and over the line. In some ways that's the perfect headache. Jakob Napoleon Romsaas and Niklas Ødegård are both quality players who want to play at the head of the diamond. Clearly I can't play them both there and, whilst I'll try and get them both on the pitch as often as possible, sometimes one of them will need to settle for a place on the bench. I'm fortunate that we have a quality starting 11 here at Viking, and two players of quality in some positions, but not all. This is what we need, quality competition for places. As we discovered last season, it's tough when you are chasing an Eliteserien title whilst striving to progress in the UEFA Champions League. Players can't play in all the games so we need quality rotation options and, last season, we didn't have enough. We keep going. We're unbeaten in our last 14 Eliteserien matches, 11 wins and three draws. We keep doing what we're doing and try to win as many games as we can. Brann are going to push us all the way I think and I won't be writing Bodø/Glimt or Rosenborg off either. I still can't believe we're top when Brann haven't lost in Eliteserien all season. They're drawing too many games which means Brann are always likely to drop points by drawing games they should be winning. But there's a long way to go yet. -- Expected Line-up
Stuniverse
Sunday 10th August 2031 Sandnes Ulf (9th) v Viking (1st) Eliteserien -- -- -- -- We have somebody Øystein Bekkeheien whenever he plays for Åsane but we need to reassess him in pre-season before we make any decisions about his future in the 2032 season and beyond. It was a very pleasing game today. New signing Niklas Ødegård scored his first goal for us after 10 minutes and that proved to be the only goal of the game. Defensively we were immense and Åsane didn't get a single shot on target which, for saying they were at home, shows just how hard we worked off the ball. -- -- Evening Results

Stuniverse
Sunday 17th August 2031 Brobbey Wants to Join Viking | Outrageous Salaries -- Spoiler -- The thing with this one is that Brian Brobbey is getting himself worked up unnecessarily. Yes we like Brobbey, and he's played well against us in some matches, so we did talk to his agent, and made an enquiry with Molde, but we were never going to sign him once we knew about his wage demands. Brobbey is on £36.5K per week at Molde and wanted a pay rise to join us. -- Our highest paid player is Anders Hartveit Ryste on £7.25K per week and, whilst we have just over £75K per week left in our wage budget, I'm not prepared to go over £10K per week on any player right now. Yes, we're the richest football club in Norwegian football right now but I'm not going to break the bank and put the future of Viking Fotballklubb at risk. Stuniverse
Preview -- -- Tromsø are doing very well this season so it will be up to us to make home advantage count today. I know the SR-Bank Arena will be packed again and our brilliant fans will give the players a lift. I'm delighted for Tromsø's manager Timmy Simons to be honest. When he took the reigns last season, Tromsø were cast adrift at the bottom. Timmy turned Tromsø's fortunes around, finished third bottom, won the Eliteserien / OBOS-ligaen Playoff Final, and are now 8th in El;iteserien. I won't be looking to do him any favours today though. With David Møller Wolfe suspended today, I'll probably start El Hadji Malick Diouf at left-back. Isak Amundsen strained his neck in training and won't be available. I doubt we'll take any chances with Runar Norheim either. -- Expected Line-up
Stuniverse
Sunday 17th August 2031 Viking (1st) v Tromsø (8th) Eliteserien -- -- -- I was hoping we could get away without using Lasse Nordås today as he's still not fully fit after a twisted knee. But the longer the second half went on at 0-0 I started to think that we were going to need Lasse and so it proved. I sent Lasse on after 55 minutes and he headed in the only goal of the game after 74 minutes. I'm not sure what it means that Lasse Nordås only played 35 plus minutes and was named Player of the Match but I don't really care. All that matters is we found a way to win the match and take the three points. Yes, we had to be patient as the goal didn't come until the 74th minute. To be fair, we'd created enough chances to win the match comfortably but we failed to hit the target with regularity. I lost count of the number of headers that landed on the roof of the net. We've been looking to put Low Crosses in for the last few matches but I may ask the players to go back to Mixed Crosses - one for me to ponder on. -- -- Evening Results Edited May 4 by Stuniverse
Stuniverse
Preview -- -- We're on a very good run of form, won 3-0 at Skeid's Ullern CC Vest Arena earlier in the season, so we're confident going up against 15th placed Skeid at our SR-Bank Arena today. Benfica are definitely interested in Jasper Torkildsen and have already made a £2.8M (£3.5M) bid which we rejected out-of-hand. We have no intention of selling Jasper, but Daniel Gjerde Sætren will wear the gloves against Skeid. Aleksander Liland is suspended today. Runar Norheim (ankle) remains doubtful and Isak Amundsen (neck) is unavailable. -- Expected Line-up -- 7 hours ago, Stuniverse said: Sunday 17th August 2031 Brobbey Wants to Join Viking | Outrageous Salaries -- Reveal hidden contents -- The thing with this one is that Brian Brobbey is getting himself worked up unnecessarily. Stuniverse
Saturday 23rd August 2031 Viking (1st) v Skeid (15th) Eliteserien -- -- -- Lasse Berg Johnsen is an important player in this group. Lasse may not always start these days, but it's rare we play a match without him featuring at some point. Today, we needed him in the closing minutes to help shore things up and protect our narrow 2-1 lead. We were comfortable in the first half and deservedly led 2-0 at the break. But Skeid pulled one back shortly after the restart, a good goal from Abel Stensrud who played for me at both Hødd and here at Viking, and things got a bit jittery then. Our de mørkeblå supporters, almost 15,500 or them in a 15,573 SR-Bank Arena crowd, never let up and really lifted the players in the second half. We had chances to score a third but weren't quite able to do so. Daniel Gjerde Sætren commanded our penalty area magnificently and, whilst it didn't feel comfortable, objectively I think we comfortably managed the game out for a 2-1 win. -- Edited May 4 by Stuniverse
Hootieleece
I think the outrageous salaries at Molde and Bodo/Glimt are because of the Board of directors. Reasoning: in my AS Trencin Save we have been to Europe three years in a row and this time, we didn't make the UECL proper. But between the transfer funds and the wages they were prepared to pay would use up all of the money in the bank. I think the AI see it as money to spend if it can find a decent player and the AI doesn't think beyond the moment.

Stuniverse
Preview -- -- Thank you, Tite. I appreciate you saying that, it means a lot. -- We play our football in Norway, Viking are a Norwegian Fotballklubb, it just feels right to me to try and build a squad of Norwegian players. That does make it harder to improve the squad, particularly within our wage structure, but I think it's the right way to go about doing business. It's also down to a lot of hard work on the training ground and the character and determination of the squad. Jasper Torkildsen played for Bodø/Glimt for eight seasons. He was a great servant to them and I hope the Bodø/Glimt supporters give him the reception he deserves. But Jasper is a Viking player now and we're focussed on going to Aspmyra and doing our best to get a positive result against Bodø/Glimt. We're confident, we just need to get the job done... if we can. Otto Rosengren (knee) is ruled out and we probably won't risk Per Andreas Haugerud Hagen (groin). -- Expected Line-up -- Yesterday's Result Edited May 5 by Stuniverse
Stuniverse
Sunday 31st August 2031 Bodø/Glimt (3rd) v Viking (1st) Eliteserien -- -- -- -- Patrick Berg is a very good player and he was a handful for us today. The goal he scored just after half an hour, to break the deadlock and give Bodø/Glimt the lead, was world class, a superb curling shot that flew into the top corner. Jasper Torkildsen stood no chance of saving it. It's never easy winning away from home so it shows the hard work and effort this group of players put in game after game, not to mention their ability. This was a very tight game with very little between Bodø/Glimt and us. The difference today was the quality of the finishing, Bodø/Glimt created as many chances as us but we tested their goalkeeper with every single one, whereas Bodø/Glimt weren't as clinical, which is testimony to our resolute defending. Oscar Bobb is a great player and he usually creates rather than scores the goals. Today, after Anders Hartveit Ryste had equalised (37 minutes), Oscar Bobb produced the best moment of the match to win the game for us on 78 minutes. Oscar won the ball in the centre circle, dribbled the ball through the middle, evading two or three challenges, took the ball into the penalty area, and placed his shot hard and low into the bottom left corner. 2-1 up against a very good Bodø/Glimt, we changed our shape, went more Defensive and saw the game out for a vital 2-1 away win. With nine games remaining, we're 15 points ahead of Bodø/Glimt, 14 points ahead of Rosenborg, and five points clear of Brann. Never say never, but it looks like a two-horse race for the Elitserien title. -- -- Evening Results

Stuniverse
2 hours ago, Hootieleece said: Looks like you have some rotation and playing time choices to make. This is because you must keep your eyes on the prize the Eliteserien Title! Thanks, @Hootieleece Yes, I've already decided that I need to prioritise Eliteserien matches over the UEFA Champions League ones because winning the Eliteserien title guarantees UEFA Champions League the following season whereas 2nd place only guarantees participation in the Qualifying Round(s). So I see winning Eliteserien and the big pay day as a bigger prize than actually progressing in the UEFA Champions League. Rightly or wrongly, that's how I'm seeing it. 2 hours ago, Hootieleece said: I would tend to play only squad players against Odd. All the others should get mixed squads based on fitness. A lot depends on the result of our next match, at home to Brann. Win and we will be eight points clear of Brann with eight matches to play. Lose and the gap is down to just two points. It's looking very much like a two-horse race now so Viking v Brann is a massive game for both football clubs. Edited May 5 by Stuniverse
Stuniverse
Tuesday 2nd September 2031 Unhappy Players -- Jan Rune Hansen Spoiler I would like to give Jan Rune Hansen more playing time but it hasn't been possible so far this season. -- Edvin Austbø Spoiler -- -- -- I'm not sure how this one with Edvin Austbø is going to play out. This all started with Edvin wanting to start more games but with the stunning form of Lasse Nordås and Anders Hartveit Ryste, plus Edvin's lack of form, I wasn't able to do that and now he wants to leave. I agreed to let Edvin go, we agreed a valuation of £8M, but I haven't been pushing for a sale because I don't really want to lose him. I did offer him out for £8M once, towards the end of the transfer window after we'd signed Henrik Skogvold, but there were no offers. I see Edvin as my third striker right now (well, third or fourth now we've signed Henrik Skogvold) and I don't really want to lose him but, now we've got Henrik, I'd be more willing to listen to offers below £8M. -- Dynamics Edited May 5 by Stuniverse
Stuniverse
Preview -- -- -- It was very kind of Emre Belözoğlu to say that. I appreciate it and will have a bottle of wine ready in my office after the game to share with him, irrespective of the result. But the match comes first and I'm not going to let other things, like the Månedens Trener award, distract us from our preparations for this Best i vest derby. There's clearly a lot more riding on this Best i vest derby given our respective league positions and that it's a two-horse race between Brann and us for the Eliteserien title. We go into the match with a five point advantage over Brann but, by the final whistle, that gap could've stretched to eight, been reduced to just two, or it could still be five. Brann will be determined to win the Best i vest derby for their fans just as we want to win it for our de mørkeblå supporters. It's going to be a cracking game, I'm expecting an electric atmosphere in the SR-Bank Arena and, hopefully, we can come out on top. Otto Rosengren remains out injured but, after our brilliant win in Aspmyra against Bodø/Glimt, I don't see any reason to change anything for the Brann match. -- Expected Line-up Edited May 5 by Stuniverse
Stuniverse
Saturday 6th September 2031 Viking (1st) v Brann (2nd) Eliteserien Best i vest derby -- -- -- -- I caught up with Emre Belözoğlu after the game and shared a glass of wine with him in my office. I thanked him for his kind words and Emre congratulated me and my team on the win. Wow! What a fantastic game that was. I think the occasion got to both teams as there was hardly an attempt on goal in the first half. Brann had a shot wide, Lasse Nordås headed over the bar for us, and that's all I can remember until that late corner when Stelios Andreou headed in to give Brann a half time lead. We knew we had to make changes at the break because, whilst there was very little between the teams, we'd hardly created anything in the first 45 minutes. I made a substitution, we changed our shape, we set-up to take the game to Brann with an Attacking mentality. It worked. We won possession shortly after their kick-off, attacked down the right wing, forced a corner... and then Lasse Nordås hit the bar with his header. We really did take the game to Brann. We created a lot of chances. On 79 minutes, we got the equaliser our second half performance deserved when Jesper Robertsen hit a low cross into the near post and Lasse Nordås's shot deflected past their goalkeeper. Having got back level, with time running out, we debated on the bench whether to stay as we were or go more solid and less Attacking. To be fair, Brann hadn't threatened much in the second half so we stuck. They say fortune favours the brave and Runar Norheim gave us a 2-1 lead with the scrambliest of scrambled goals with 84 minutes on the clock. Jesper Robertsen released Anders Hartveit Ryste down the right, Anders's cross deflected off a defender towards the near post, Lasse Nordås's glancing header was parried by the goalkeeper, Henrik Skogvold, with his back to goal, tried to find a teammate but the ball hit the goalkeeper's back, Henrik then knocked the ball back to the edge of the six yard box at the second attempt, and Runar Norheim won the race, hit the ball as hard as he could, and it flew through a crowd of players into the back of the net. I apologised to Emre Belözoğlu if I was over-the-top but we were off the bench, jumping around like crazy people, and the noise inside the SR-Bank Arena was incredible. We did shut up shop then. I knew I'd only used four substitutes and wanted to make a defensive substitution but the fourth official told me I couldn't as we'd already had three substitute breaks. So we did the best we could, with the players we had out there, to just defend, keep Brann away from our goal, and we did it. This is a massive, MASSIVE, MASSIVE victory for us. -- Edited May 5 by Stuniverse

Stuniverse
Tuesday 9th September 2031 Real Betis (Spain) v Viking (Norway) UEFA Champions League -- -- -- I don't like singling out individuals but Niklas Ødegård was brilliant today. We were 2-0 down and the game was slipping away from us when Niklas pulled one back after 79 minutes. Two minutes later, Niklas equalised. The first half was very even, not much to pick between us, but Real Betis were more ruthless in front of goal than us. It didn't help that Anders Hartveit Ryste took a knock and we had to replace him after just over half an hour. Edvin Austbø came on and did very well. Recently we've been playing to Focus Play Through The Middle and put over Low Crosses but after Real Betis scored their second on 65 minutes, we decided to go back to how we used to play with Mixed Crosses and no specific focus and we took control of the match. It's a sign of where we are as a team that, after being 0-2 down to Real Betis after 65, we're disappointed that we didn't win the match. -- Edited May 5 by Stuniverse
Stuniverse
Preview -- -- Niklas Ødegård was rightly named Player of the Match against Real Betis in midweek and he's looking forward to returning to the Skagerak Arena, this time as a Viking player. I think Magnus Powell has done a brilliant job at Odds Ballklubb since taking the reigns in early July. When Magnus was appointed, the Oddrane were third bottom and facing a relegation battle. Now, Magnus has Odd sitting 11th, nine points clear of the relegation playoff place. We're expecting a difficult game at the Skagerak Arena but we're confident we can get a positive result against Odds Ballklubb. Edvin Austbø (knee) and Aleksander Liland (shin) picked up injuries in training and we won't be risking either of them. Otto Rosengren (knee) is back training with the squad but tomorrow's match against Odd will come too soon for him. -- Expected Line-up Edited May 5 by Stuniverse

Stuniverse
Sunday 13th September 2031 Odds Ballklubb (11th) v Viking (1st) Eliteserien -- -- -- Lasse Nordås has scored 17 Eliteserien goals, more than anybody else, he's been named Player of the Match nine times, more than anybody else, and he leads Eliteserien with a 7.65 average rating. I can't think of anybody more deserving. Unfortunately for us, Kerim Alhas put in the best goalkeeping performance I've witnessed in a long, long time. We had 29 attempts on goal, 13 of them on target, and Alhas saved everything we threw at him. Spoiler Odds Ballklubb set their stall out to sit back in numbers, make it difficult for us, and see if they could knick a goal on the break. As it was, they knicked two goals and we only managed to score the one. We started the game well, created three or four good chances, and then with their first attack, Julian Gonstad nipped in at the near post to break the deadlock. Odds Ballklubb showed no attacking intent after that. I'd like to give them credit and say we couldn't break them down, but we created lots of chances, but Kerim Alhas denied us. During the break, we made three substitutions and changed our shape. Straight from the kick-off we attacked, Henrik Skogvold's shot grazed the bar and went over. Kerim Alhas then took a long goal kick, Taichi Hara flicked it on, and Filippo Ranocchia out ran our central defenders to double Odd's lead. On 53 minutes, we finally found a way past their goalkeeper when Niklas Ødegård scored As we went into the last 20 minutes, we went even more Attacking. Runar Norheim's header was cleared off the line on 79 minutes and, though we had other chances, we couldn't get the equaliser. The players have been magnificent to stay unbeaten for 19 matches and, to be fair, they didn't deserve to lose today. Now, we need to go on another run. -- -- Edited May 5 by Stuniverse

Stuniverse
Preview -- -- After the disappointing, though undeserved defeat against Odds Ballklubb, we're going to rotate quite heavily for our visit to RB Leipzig in the UEFA Champions League. I'll admit, it'll be a team selection very much with our next Eliteserien match at home to Strømsgodset in mind. Stuniverse
Wednesday 17th September 2031 RB Leipzig (Germany) v Viking (Norway) UEFA Champions League -- -- -- To be fair, we thought RB Leipzig were going to win when Christoph Hein hit a screamer past Daniel Gjerde Sætren. The officials gave the goal, and we had no complaints because it looked a fair goal to us, but after the VAR review it was disallowed because Hein had gone too early and was narrowly offside when the pass was made to him. Leipzig must be wondering how they didn't win this match. They were camped in our half for long periods and we couldn't get much going from an attacking perspective at all. But we defended well, resolutely, bravely and that, plus some below par finishing from Leipzig, kept us in it. With 20 minutes to go we sent on some of our big guns to see if we could do a smash and grab but the game ended with us only having two attempts on goal and none on target. We were fortunate. Stuniverse
Preview -- -- It's 11 players plus substitutes against another 11 players and another set of subs... it's not Stuni Stuniverse versus Tor Thodesen. I'd much rather be in our position than anybody else's. We're five points clear of Brann with eight matches remaining. If we win those eight matches then we're Eliteserien champions. We'll try to win all eight, but we probably won't because that's how football works, but I doubt Brann will win all their eight matches either. All we can do is try and win as many of our remaining matches as possible, starting at home to Strømsgodset, and then see where we are after 30 matches. El Hadji Malick Diouf is suspended today and Otto Rosengren (knne) isn't fully fit yet. -- Expected Line-up Edited May 5 by Stuniverse
Stuniverse
Sunday 21st September 2031 Viking (1st) v Strømsgodset (7th) Eliteserien -- -- -- Last weekend we lost to Odd and Brann beat Skeid so we're kind of back where we were again. But with each match we play, there's one less to play, and that makes the points gap between us and second even more significant. Our wonderful de mørkeblå supporters really help in that respect. Between 15,000 and 16,000 of them inside the SR-Bank Arena lifts and helps the players, but our players must take a lot of credit for their hard work, determination and effort. Strømsgodset are a good team, they made things very difficult for us today, but the players found a way to win the game. Anders Hartveit Ryste gave us the lead on the stroke of half time and one goal was enough because we defended very well. We're into an International break now so we'll give the players who aren't away with their Nations a week off and then we'll get together again, regroup and prepare for our next match away to Sogndal. -- -- Evening Result Edited May 5 by Stuniverse

Stuniverse
Sunday 28th September 2031 Austbø's Unhappiness About to Escalate? -- Spoiler Even Edvin's agent doesn't think there's much chance of a transfer bid being made any time soon. Maybe, Kristian Gudmundstrud, you should tell your client that. I have offered Edvin out via TransferRoom again but I'm not hopeful. -- That's not, exactly, what I said though, is it Mr. Pedersen? I didn't guarantee him more playing time. Edited May 6 by Stuniverse
