Northernpilgrim
We were agonisingly close to going through against Middlesbrough, going out on penalties after two drawn games

Nobby_McDonald
Oh those lovely playoffs. Going off the Sir Alex trail I meant you've left the Scottish trophies behind.

Going off the Sir Alex trail I meant you've left the Scottish trophies behind. Given where we were when I took over, it was a decent season. I'm hoping for automatic promotion this time, but as you'll see when I post my next update, the board have started a firesale of our best players, and the threat of administration means none of the money can be used to replace them. Northernpilgrim
Just a week before the season starts, and before our last preseason game, this happened
Northernpilgrim
The deal went through in only a few days, still before the end of preseason but at least the finances are now 'insecure' rather than 'in debt'
Northernpilgrim
Preseason results were very good
Northernpilgrim
But the board refused to lift the transfer embargo after the takeover, so I've been unable to sign anyone. Here are the players who have gone
Northernpilgrim
Its been a tough start to the season, with all the turmoil off the pitch not helping, as well as surrendering a 4-0 lead in in one match which leaves the early league table looking like this
Northernpilgrim
September was awful and the league table now looks like this
Nobby_McDonald
Troubled times at soon not to be Villa Park.

Doesn't even come close to describing the situation after October's results, which saw us blow a 3-0 lead at Wolves and the table is now really depressing
Northernpilgrim
November was awful which left the league table looking like this and after the last match, I was sacked
Northernpilgrim
I was only out of work for two weeks, as in mid-December, another big Championship club came calling
Northernpilgrim
I arrive at Leeds to find they have no Assistant Manager. I appointed this guy
Northernpilgrim
Although I lost my first game as Leeds manager, we responded very well and that leaves the league table looking like this
Northernpilgrim
January was also nearly perfect and we're starting to narrow the gap to the playoffs
Northernpilgrim
In terms of transfers, I made one signing, bringing in Tyler Walker from St Mirren for £6m
Northernpilgrim
We enjoyed an unbeaten February, with just a draw preventing a perfect month and we continue to close on the playoffs
Northernpilgrim
An inconsistent March, but unbelievably, we're through to the semi final of the FA Cup and still outside the top
Nobby_McDonald
Doing much better at Leeds.

Northernpilgrim
April was another up and down month, which ended with us getting heavily beaten in the FA Cup Semi Final and the home defeat to Hull saw us fall out of the playoffs
Northernpilgrim
We managed to beat 8th placed Birmingham in May's first game, returning us to the playoffs. A win in the final game against relegation threatened Scunthorpe would see us secure a playoff place, Even a defeat would be ok as long as Cardiff failed to beat Aston Villa So, would it be enough? No, Cardiff beat, and relegated, my former club Aston Villa, to go back above us and take the last playoff spot.
Northernpilgrim
It's no consolation at all, but despite beating us, Scunthorpe will join Aston Villa in League 1 next season. The other team taking the drop is Ipswich.
Northernpilgrim
I set up an easy (on paper at least) pre-season, hoping that we would score lots of goals and rebuild confidence after last season's disappointment. I wasn't expecting it to go quite this well though, with 67 goals scored and none conceded in 8 matches
Northernpilgrim
In terms of transfers, we brought in four players to help our promotion push for this season

Northernpilgrim
August was a very busy month. It started with what looked a disappointing defeat to QPR, but after that was perfect, and as you'll see from the league table, the QPR defeat is starting to look a little less disappointing After the Derby game, we were actually top of the table (ours was the early kickoff), but by the end of the day, we had fallen into the playoff places, where we are joined by QPR. Northernpilgrim
I don't usually post scoring charts, and certainly not this early in the season, but the top scorer chart in the Championship is already insane. Ordinarily, my striker Glen McAuley, with 8 in 5 games, would be well clear at the top. As it is he's only third, and 6 goals behind Liam Keane
Northernpilgrim
September was a pretty decent month, but it ended with a very disappointing defeat which cost us in the league

Northernpilgrim
Our nightmare continued through November, though the month did start with a big win and the league table looks increasingly awful

Northernpilgrim
The poor run continued as we lost the first two games in December, but ended the month four unbeaten, with three successive wins and we have climbed back into the top half, just
Northernpilgrim
Not a great January, but we did get a league win and are still in the FA Cup and still clinging on to the top half, but the playoffs are starting to look unachievable
Northernpilgrim
We managed to go the whole of February unbeaten meaning we've reduced the gap to the top 6 to 4 points
Northernpilgrim
Defeat in our opening match of March to promotion-chasing Sheffield Wednesday, but the rest of the month went pretty well and we're now right on the heels of the playoffs, having actually been in them earlier in the month as we had played a game more than a couple of teams, who have now played their game in hand to leave us 7th, but with a top 4 spot now a realistic target
Northernpilgrim
April was a little bit up and down, and we came up just short in the FA Cup Semi Final too but we go into the last two games in a playoff position
Northernpilgrim
And despite taking four points from our last two games the late equaliser that Barnsley bagged saw us drop from 5th to miss out on the playoffs altogether We were just 8 minutes away, and were 2-0 up in that game too
Northernpilgrim
Gutted isn't the word. My contract is up in the summer, I have declined two opportunities to extend it, as I'd hoped to win promotion (which the board were demanding), and then look for another job. That gamble looks to have failed, as I certainly won't get a Premier League job, and I might be sacked at Leeds before my contract is up.
Northernpilgrim
Crisis averted, I'm staying at Leeds for another season at least, as I've signed a new two year deal
Northernpilgrim
I set up a more challenging preseason this time, although I did have a couple of easy games to start and finish, and our results were really good We made three really decent signings and here is why I've brought Liam Keane in on a two year loan
Northernpilgrim
This is the squad I'm taking in to the new season. The aim is simple. Promotion, preferably as Champions

Northernpilgrim
August was a bit of an up and down month, but we're once again free-scoring, bagging at least two in all but one of our seven matches, and managing 4 goals three times which leaves the early table looking like this
Northernpilgrim
A near perfect September and we're in the playoffs, on the heels of the leaders
