Sportgemeinschaft Dynamo Dresden e. V., commonly known as simply SG Dynamo Dresden or Dynamo Dresden, is a German association football club, based in Dresden, Saxony. It was founded on 12 April 1953, as a club affiliated with the East German police, and became one of the most popular and successful clubs in East German football, winning eight league titles. After the reunification of Germany, Dynamo played four seasons in the top division Bundesliga (1991–95), but have since drifted between the second and fourth tiers. The club achieved promotion to the 2. Fußball-Bundesliga for the 2011–12 season. Dynamo play home games at the Glücksgas-Stadion, capacity of 32,085.

HISTORY

The beginnings - football in Dresden in 19th century: Dresden English Football Club

The Dresden English Football Club was founded on 18 March 1874. In April 1874, the Illustrirte Zeitung of Leipzig reported on the establishment of an association "calling itself Dresden Football Club (D.F.C.)" to play a game "in which the ball is propelled forward with the foot", and described: "some twenty young men in a costume, namely in different colours to distinguish them. A kind of woollen or silk underjacket, with or without sleeves, short-fitting leg coverings that show the bare knee, long stockings, very comfortable shoes or lace-up boots make up the ensemble."

The club was the first football club in Germany, probably the first in continental Europe and thus the first outside Britain. That year, over 70 players participated, primarily Englishmen working in Dresden. They played on a meadow at the Güntzwiesen, near the Blüherpark and the site of today's Glücksgas Stadium.

1890s

Between 1891 and 1894, seven matches are documented, the first six of which the Dresden team won; as a Vienna sports paper reported, they had not even allowed a goal to be scored against them. Their goal ratio was 34:0. In a match played on New Year's Day 1891, they defeated the English F.C. of Berlin 7:0; according to an account published in 1898 by the founding vice president of the German Football Association, Philipp Heineken, the Berliners described their play as nonplusultra. On 18 April 1892 at Berlin, in the presence of representatives of the Ministry of Culture and of the British ambassador, they won 3:0 against a representative city team; this was presumably the Deutscher Fußball- und Cricketbund, which had the status of an early national German team. Their first defeat, on 10 March 1894, was a 2:0 loss to another Berlin team, Tor und Fußball Club Victoria 89, with both goals scored in the first ten minutes.

Players in 1894 were: Beb (Captain), Burchard, Crossley, Graham, Atkins, Spencer, Ravenscraft, Johnson, le Maistre, Luxmoore, Young. The president of the club was Rev. Bowden.

On 30 April 1898, former members of the Dresden English Football Club and of the Neue Dresdner FC (founded in 1893 by former DEFC members and now SpVgg Dresden-Löbtau 1893) founded the Dresdner Sport-Club.

Dresdner SC

Dresdner FC was founded on 30 April 1898, and the club was also a founding member of the German Football Association (Deutscher Fussball Bund or German Football Association) in 1900. Early on, Dresdner SC made regular appearances in regional finals and captured several titles. They were a dominant side in the Mitteldeutschen Verbandsliga: from 1925 to 1930 they lost only two of the ninety games they played.

The 30's and 40's

Dresdner's performance slipped for a time, but the club re-emerged as a strong side in the Gauliga Sachsen, one of sixteen top flight divisions established in the re-organization of German football under the Third Reich. They captured the Tschammerpokal – the predecessor of today's German Cup in 1940 and 1941, and followed up with national titles in 1943 and 1944. The club won all 23 games they played during the 1942/43 season, scoring 152 goals and conceding only 16. Their 4:0 win over Luftwaffen SV Hamburg in Berlin's Olympiastadion made them the last holders of the Viktoria trophy, symbolic of German football supremacy since it was first awarded to VfB Leipzig in 1903. That trophy was secreted by a Dresden supporter to a bank safe deposit box in what would become East Germany and remained hidden away for decades before finally being returned to the German Football Association.

Post World War II - Denazification, 1950 East German championship final riot, and dissolution

After World War II, all existing sports clubs and other organizations were banned by the Allied occupation authorities in an attempt to create a disconnect from the recent Nazi past. In early 1946, the club was re-constituted as SG Friedrichstadt and then slipped into oblivion after a fateful appearance in the 1950 East German championship final. That match, against Soviet-sponsored Horch Zwickau, would be the end of the side which was regarded as being too bourgeoisie by the communist authorities. Zwickau played a viciously physical game and, abetted by the referee who refused the homeside substitutions and eventually reduced Friedrichstadt to an 8-man squad, "won" the match 5:1. Unhappy Dresdner/Friedrichstadt fans invaded the field several times, and at game's end, badly beat a Zwickau player. Mounted police were called in to restore order. Within weeks, orders came to dismantle the club and send the players to BSG Tabak Dresden. Most of the players instead fled to the west to play for Hertha BSC Berlin.

SG Dynamo Dresden - as it is known today

Early years

After a riot at the final of the 1950 East German championship, SG Friedrichstadt was dissolved. The city needed a new, ideologically safe representative, and a new football club as founded, as part of SG Deutsche Volkspolizei Dresden. A team was assembled with players delegated from 11 other police-affiliated clubs, and quickly established itself as a force in East German football, winning its first cup in 1952. In April 1953, the central sports society SV Dynamo was founded, to which VP Dresden were affiliated, taking the name of SG Dynamo Dresden. Shortly after this the club claimed its first East German title.

This success, though, proved to be the club's undoing. Erich Mielke, head of the Stasi, of which Dynamo were now part, was unhappy that Dresden was enjoying footballing success, while the capital, East Berlin, lacked a strong footballing team. In 1954, Dynamo's team were moved to Berlin, to form Dynamo Berlin. Among the players lost to Berlin were Dynamo's first internationals, including Johannes Matzen, Herbert Schoen and Günter Schröter, while the remainder of the club was left to regroup in the second-tier DDR-Liga.

Re-emergence

Dynamo Dresden were left with a team composed of youth and reserve players, and by 1957 had dropped to the fourth tier, playing in the local Bezirksliga. They began to climb the leagues, though, and by 1962 they were back in the DDR-Oberliga, and although this first season ended in relegation, they bounced back immediately. They recovered equally well from another relegation in 1968, and remained in the Oberliga from 1969 until its dissolution in 1991. This relegation came after a fourth place finish in 1967, which enabled Dynamo's first foray into European football – they entered the 1967–68 Fairs Cup, where they were eliminated by Scottish side Rangers in the first round.

During the 1965–66 season, 11 East German clubs were separated from their parent sports clubs to be designated as Fußballclubs: clubs focused entirely on football, where the country's best talent would be transferred with the object of developing players for the national team. Dynamo Dresden were one of these, although they retained the title of Sportgemeinschaft (SG).

Glory years - 5 league titles

During the 1970s, Dynamo established themselves as one of the top teams in East Germany, under the management of Walter Fritzsch. They won five league titles (1971, 1973, 1976, 1977 and 1978), and two cups, (1971 and 1977). They battled with 1. FC Magdeburg for domination of the league, and became the most popular the side in the country, regularly drawing crowds of 25,000, around three times what other clubs were attracting. They also began to establish themselves as a presence in European football – they played in European competition every year during the 1970s, and eliminated some big names – beating FC Porto, Juventus and Benfica on their way to four quarter-final finishes. During this time Dynamo came up against West German opposition for the first time, losing against Bayern Munich 7–6 on aggregate in the last 16 of the 1973–74 European Cup. On three occasions they were eliminated by English side Liverpool, twice in the UEFA Cup and once in the European Cup, and each time Liverpool went on to win the competition. In 1973, Hans-Jürgen Kreische was the first Dynamo Dresden player to be named East German Footballer of the Year, and was followed by Hans-Jürgen Dörner in 1977. Kreische was the league's leading goalscorer on four occasions, and was named in East Germany's squad for the 1974 World Cup, along with team-mate Siegmar Wätzlich.

History was to repeat itself, though, at the end of the 1970s. Erich Mielke, again jealous that provincial clubs were dominating the league while his beloved Dynamo Berlin were starved of success, began to manipulate the league in favour of the side from the capital.

Capital dominance - Erich Mielke strikes again

East German football had generally been set up in favour of the "Fußballclubs", who were usually delegated the best players, but the authorities had usually kept out of on-pitch matters. This changed in the late-1970s and 80s though, as players and referees were coerced by the Stasi into helping the cause of Berliner FC Dynamo. BFC won ten consecutive titles, from 1979 to 1988. Of all clubs, Dynamo Dresden were the most affected by this, finishing second on six occasions, although they did win the FDGB-Pokal three times (1982 and 1984, 1985). Towards the end of the 1980s, the Stasi's influence was waning, and Dynamo Dresden reclaimed the title in 1989, and retained it in 1990, adding a cup win to complete a double.

By this point the Berlin Wall had fallen, and many of the top players in East Germany took the opportunity to head west. In the summer of 1990, Dynamo Dresden lost two star players, Ulf Kirsten and Matthias Sammer joining VfB Stuttgart and Bayer Leverkusen respectively. With German reunification looming, many clubs in the East changed their name to shed their Soviet image, and Dynamo Dresden changed from SG to the more traditional 1. FC. The Oberliga also changed name for its final season: the league, now called the NOFV-Oberliga, was used to determine which places the East German clubs would take in the unified German league. Dynamo Dresden finished 2nd, behind Hansa Rostock, thus qualifying for the Bundesliga.

The Wall had fallen - Germany reunited

Having been among the top clubs in the East, Dynamo found life in the Bundesliga much harder, struggling both financially and on the pitch. Club spent 4 years in the top tier, during which they were in a near-constant battle against relegation. The inevitable happened in 1994-95 season, club having gone through three managers (Siegfried Held, Horst Hrubesch and Ralf Minge) during the season, and finished last that season. To add to this, the club had accumulated debts of more than 10 million DM, and were denied a license to play in the 2. Bundesliga, and had to drop down to the third tier Regionalliga Nordost. Rolf-Jürgen Otto, the club's president was jailed for having embezzled around 3 Million DM from the club.

While many of the stars of the 1980s had moved west, some remained for Dynamo's Bundesliga tenure, including Torsten Gütschow and Hans-Uwe Pilz, while the club was able to attract players from other Eastern clubs, including Olaf Marschall, René Müller and Heiko Scholz. The fall of the wall brought the influx of Dynamo's first foreign players, and the club saw internationals from Australia (Mark Schwarzer), Poland (Piotr Nowak), Russia (Stanislav Cherchesov) and Sweden (Johnny Ekström), among others.

Between 1995 and 2006, club have drifted between the second and fourth tier. Finally, in the 2010-11 season, after securing 3rd place in 3. Liga, Dynamo qualified for a playoff against VfL Osnabrück which Dynamo won 4–2 on aggregate to earn promotion to the 2. Bundesliga, where they have been playing since.

Stadium

Dynamo play at the Glücksgas Stadium, which was opened in 1923, originally named the Rudolf-Harbig-Stadion after local track and field athlete Rudolf Harbig. The stadium was renamed Dynamo-Stadion by the East German authorities in 1971, but reverted to its former name after reunification. With an original capacity of 24,000, the stadium was rebuilt in the 1990s, in line with DFB and FIFA regulations, and was thoroughly modernised between 2006 and 2009. The rebuilt stadium opened on 15 September 2009 with a friendly match against Schalke 04. In 2010, the stadium was renamed in line with its new sponsor, Glücksgas.

DYNAMO DRESDEN IN FM - CLUB BACKGROUND AND BASIC INFORMATION

NewsInbox_zps9faa3a47.jpg

Dresden_InformationGeneral_zpscf6fd0b0.jpg

Media prediction of 14th is definitely doing us a favour as this team is definitely capable for more than that. It gives you time to consolidate financially and also squad-wise, without pressure of not delivering in the first season.

FACILITIES

Dresden_InformationFacilities_zps48a140ed.jpg

Nice big stadium with loyal fan base which should really help you when it comes to finances.

FINANCES

Dresden_BoardroomFinances_zpsad26c568.jpg

As you can see, there is 5.5 million euros debt, more specifically 237k euros per month until July 2015. Balance is in healthy state, it has to be noted, and with prize money in 2. Bundesliga, there shouldn't be any real worries about financial future of the club.

SEASON EXPECTATIONS

NewsInbox-2_zps29f2d5b0.jpg

Not ideal, but then again, I didn't plan on investing anything in the first season as current squad should do for the first year. However, there is enough of the wage budget to bring in one or two players on a free transfer.

TACTICAL ANALYSIS

SGDynamoDresden_TacticsOverview_zps3861ebca.jpg

Lack of holding midfield players and also number of offensive players almost demands you to play 4-2-3-1, as there is not much money in the transfer kitty you have to work with what you have. Team is very fast, one of the fastest in the league and also one of the worst when it comes to passing, therefore those team instructions I set. Tactic relies on fast transition from defense to attack and exploiting pace this team posess.

SUGGESTED FIRST XI

SGDynamoDresden_TacticsOverview-3_zps42a80b8c.jpg

Kirsten is obvious first choice between the sticks, as well as entire back line. In the midfield, Fiel is one of the best players at the club but due to lack of holding midfielders in the squad I use Menz next to Fiel. Great all around player, very versatile, MC is not his natural position but he will do. I also brought in Florin Flovin from SV Mattersburg, for around 60k euros, and he should provide much needed backup and competition. When it comes to the front four, lot of suitable players and lot of talent, to be fair I'm still experimenting in this line, with both players and their roles, trying to come up with perfect attack. Pote is definitely the best player here and he should start, Koch and Kempe as well, and it's between Ouali and Dedic for that left wing position. Aoudia provides excellent competition and Müller is one for the future. Benyamina just doesn't cut it in my opinion.

Some final thoughts and advice...

Due to lack of financial resources first season is consolidation season. It's up to you to decide who cuts it and who doesn't, who fits your tactics and who should be sold/released. At the end of the first season, lot of first team players' contracts are up. It is a perfect opportunity to asses the squad and release the players you consider to be deadwood. Team has great potential, financially and players wise. Great number of loyal fans, in combination with wage spending below division average, prize money in 2. Bundesliga and maybe a decent cup run, could see you having a healthy budget in the end of the first season. From then on, it's up to you to find the right players, invest wisely, and lead this team where it belongs - top of the German football.

Good luck.

Im starting a save with this team. Been while i started on germany and should be a good challenge.

Cool, let us know how your save is going :)

August just came to an end in my save, and after complete 6th round, we are sitting 3rd with 4 wins and two loses. A little surprising for me tbh, it looks like tactic is working, for the first time for me in FM 14. I struggled to get tactics right in FM 14 so far but this really seems to work.

There are still some issues to iron out though. Scoring doesn't seem to be a problem for us but conceding is a huge problem. We conceded 11 goals in 6 games so far, some of the results being 2-4, 3-2, 3-2, 2-1 etc etc... I'm still tinkering with the back line, Gueye doesn't seem to be as good as I thought but it also may be up to wing back issue in this ME. At least the front line doesn't dissapoint and we score more than we concede. I started defensive positioning training in match preparation, we will see if it does any good.

Had an amazing game with Dresden in FM 2013, with both Bundesliga and CL glory 4-5 seasons in still pitching players from the original squad (Potè, Bregerie, Gueye, Schuppan). Highly recommended club to play with - I always searched "dresden ultras" on Youtube to set the mood before big games :D Might do another game with them on '14 further down the line.

BTW: Epic club guide, kudos to OP!

What free players - that are actually good - would come to Dresden? Obviously at the start of the game.

If you are talking about players that will actually improve the team, not much tbh. There are probably a few good 32+ years olds who could make the difference for one season but I rather prefer saving up money and waiting for one season as better players will probably become available. Not saying it is the right way, or the only way, just my opinion. Also, due to my PC's performance constraints I only loaded German leagues, one might have more luck with also loading for eg. Switzerland, Austria, maybe Netherlands and Belgium, and trying to find suitable players there.

Please note, that this is only for German leagues loaded, due to my own PC performance constraints.

Yeah man the fans are crazy :D I also had a successful save with them on FM 13 (not as successful as you though, congrats on CL). So I decided to start a thread this year, maybe more people will become interested as it can be really great save. Anyone looking for an interesting long term save, building for the future and bringing the sleeping giant back where they belong, should find Dresden save compelling.

ok so going into next season i have been given 3million to avoid relegation. firstly i got rid of all the staff and got my own in just the usual good ass man and HOYD, few coaches and a scouting team to set me up. i also requested the youth facilities be upgraded hoping for a few regens in the feature.

as for getting players in not many people want to come play for me so probably a few more Scandinavians and maybe a few youngsters. could do with getting a RB, DM, CM's and another strong striker.

gonna crack on and will post again later

Awesome! Let us know how is your life in 1. Bundesliga going. I'm currently sitting 4th in my first season, 17 games into the season. Promotion has suddenly became a goal but I have a lot of ups and downs in form, hopefully things will get better in the second part of the season.

yer can do but im no tactical genius. ok when i make a tactic i think its important to keep it simple, with the tactic creator its easy to get carried away with fancy styles or player roles that i have never heard of. ill quickly run though what sort of players i like in what positions. i play 4-1-3-2

GK- this ones simple just someone with decent gk stats, kirsten is really good i found but if your looking to change i always find its better to go with a gk with good form over good stats but thats just personal choice.

RB/LB - i dont play any wide midfielders so these two get a lot of stick. i try to go for high stats in stamina, work rate and teamwork. other stats such as tackling crossing and dribbling are useful. gorlitz was good in this position so players like him are spot on.

DC- good in the air good in the tackle. players like thelander just simple centre halves.

DM- i like a dm with dc type stats strong and good in the tackle. anthony annan from schalke was the best player i have had in this roll but i don think he will come to dresden but that type player.

CM- i play 3 cms so i like to mix up the type of players i play, its no good having 3 of the same type of player. i normally have a btb type, a more defensive player and a more creative player. i try to go for players with good all round stats and not extremes although its handy if the creative type can strike a dead ball. have found players like jay spearing to be good in the btb role, nothin special but a real tryer.

FC- one support one attack. the roles dont really matter i try to play whatever there players proffered role is. normally try to have a poacher and one other, either a big strong lad or creative type.

as for opposition instructions i try not to go to mad and dont normally bother. if the other team has a real stand out player i try to close them down and tackle hard and just generally bully them out the game.

hope that helps others but like i say im no expert so probably worth a read around rather than take my word for it. any other people playing could do with a bit of inspiration on signings struggling to get much first div quality in.

end of season 2 and my first in the first division. the quality of opponent is much higher and that made for a tough season as the squad i had was probably the weakest in the league. finished 12th; W11, D7, L16, FOR 47, AGAINST 59, 40 points.

first team was usually as follows

gk- hradecky - was really solid conceded a lot but also made some top saves

dr- remmer - amazing player must buy imo

dl- schuppan - reliable

dc- strandberg - i rate him as one of the best in the game well worth a try

dc- thelander - not as strong as strandberg but solid as ever

dm- hartman - no thrills solid all year

mc- tibbling - really come good this year

mc- akram - signing of the season from iraq, set pieces where brilliant got me plenty of goals

mc- thompsen - really good in his first season will be a mainstay for a while i think

fc- berisha - young and created a lot of goals

fc- fejzullahu - bit disappointing but did get goals

really struggled the first half of the season an come the break was second from bottom. rested the tiny squad over the winter and the played really well the second half gettin some good results.

the highlight of the season was winning the german cup!

had a lucky run playing weak teams until the semi when i got leverkusen. fejzullahu equalised in the 88th min to make it 1-1. i went on to win 9-8 on penalties with hradecky saving and scoring the winning penalty.

the euro cup beckons for us next season so will crack on and update later

EDIT*** forgot to say i beat hannover 2-1 in the final ***

After trying various saves and not getting any enjoyment from them saw your post and decided to give Dresden a go.The 1st season I am going to get the finances in order and get a team ready for a promotion push in season 2.I have sold Gueye to Dusseldorf for 180k and the only signing I have made is to bring in on loan Enis Alushi from Kaiserlautern.

The pre season went well with some good wins however once the season proper started things went a bit pear shaped losing four out of the 1st five matches we have steadied the ship since then and have 3 wins and a draw in the next 4 matches and currently lie in 8 th place.

Our league result are as follows

Kaiserlautern h 1-2

Bielefeld a 0-1

Paderborn a 1-2

Koln h 2-1

1860Muchen a 2-4

Frankfurt h 4-1

Aaelen a 1-0

Karlsruhe h 0-0

Furth a 2-1

will post regular updates on our progress.

season 3 update. had a really solid season including a good run in the euro cup. was much more competitive in the league finishing 5th. heres how i finished W16, D10, L8. FOR 42, AGG 30, PTS 58. was really chuffed only finished 3 points from the champions league places, should have made it really but had to many draws. ok the ins this season where.

anthony annan - DM - 1.3m

jay spearing - MC - 3.2m

vanden borre - everywhere - free

jelle vossen - FC - 5m

rasmus jonsson - FC - 2.8m

enzo andia - CB - 1.1m

manyama - FC - free

a number of players went out mainly end of contracts the only outs to note where;

berisha - 2.7m - buy out clause in contract only way i could get him to sign. went to leverkusen

strandberg - 7.5m - wanted new contract couldnt offer him enough so he wanted to leave, was gutted as he was really good the season before. went to wolfsburg

patino - 185k - was a flop really but sold on for a profit.

ok so the starting line up for most the season was

GK - hradecky - was really good this year good stopper

DR - remmer - lots of assists few goals to

DL - schuppan - consistent

DC - thelander - was really good got lots of headed goals

DC - andia - best million ever spent solid all season against every team must buy i reckon

DM - annan - suits the dm role a treat probably made more tackles than anyone

MC - spearing - great all rounder despite poor stats

MC - akram/ tibbling - tried to play tibbling more often than not but akram scored every time he came on so was the starter for the second half of the season.

MC - Thompsen - was world class attracting bids from bayern. scored plenty created more

FC - jonsson - work horse created plenty scored a few mainly headers

FC - vossen - paid 5m and was worth every penny scored loads ( top goalscorer in league) such a good poacher.

as for the euro cup i had a pretty easy group ( zurich, at madrid, besiktas) won every game in the group. got tolouse (cant remember how to spell it) in the next round, lost 1-0 at hame but then beat them 4-0 at there place vossen getting all 4. next round beat anderlecht home and away. at the quarter final stage drew napoli. got a 0-0 draw at home but they beat me 2-0 away, they were to good really.

ok heading into next season hoping for a champions league spot. gonna spend a while searching round the regens as there are a few worldly ones starting to pop up and hope to hang on to the rest of the first team.

will update again soon

  • 2 weeks later...

THX lewishogg,

i fed up with transfer. I have managed to sign some players and not able to do it due to players decision... for example: from Africa, wages under 1000 p./week... something is wrong this patch... another reason is value of player. Do you have the same problem?

moving on the result: Bundesliga 2 is done! 1st place...

I am on 6th place in Bundesliga in February.

Transfer: I could bring some quiet good free players and bargain: Gomes - GK, Digao - W, Marcos Aurelio - ST
