Should never of left port vale... with the youngsters you had the team had a bright future :/ any plans on who to go too next?

If i knew Bolton had a chairman rinsing them dry i wouldn't have left, trust me. But the chance of a fallen giant with apparently money behind them was too good of a chance.

As for next im not even bothering with Championship level teams. I honestly don't feel i have done well enough to warrent managing in the Championship. This Pompey job looks interesting.

Summer Signings

july19-transfers.png

There we go again, Billy Littler joining me at yet another club. He is the big signing of the summer and the only player we spent money on. Mahoney, Lund and Mustoe were signed with an eye to the future so shouldn't get too much game time this season.

Ten players were released when the contracts expired and we have lost the likes of Ashley Harris to Everton for £200k and Jonathon Bateson to Preston for £140k. 12 younger players have also been loaned out to various BSBP and BSBs teams.

Pre Season Results

july19-results.png

A good pre season started with 3 wins over local team and that waas followed by a 4-1 win at Championship side Stevenage. Tight defeats to League 1 Cheltenham and Spanish side Murcia came either side of a draw with another Championship side Peterborough. A tight win at Havant and pre season was complete with a home loss to Manchester City with side including left back Jack Robinson, Fellani, Miroslav Stoch and Sergio Aguero. Aguero earns in a month what my wage spend is in a year!!!

August 2019

League Two

aug19-results.png

aug19-table.png

After a brilliant away win at AFC Telford on day one i was expecting good things from this squad. Wiltshere playing as the lone forward tore through the defence and could have had a couple more too. Next up were Kidderminster at home and despite us having most of the possesion they took their chances when they came. Some would have Kiddy as favourites anyhow given they have just come down from League One after destroyng this league in 2017/18. Back on the road to Wrexham and with 88minutes in the clock things were great, 1-0 up through midfielder McNair. Then two stikes in 89th and 91st minute struck us down. Our worst performance followed at home to Crawley. With some tired legs after going to extra time in the cup just three days beofre we never got going. Failed to have a shot on target and could have played for a week and still not scored. Crawley won the points with a goal 7 mins from time.

Despite our lowly position two players have impressed

aug19-ypotm.png

League Cup

aug19-lgecup.png

Two home ties against Championship sides and we gave good performances in both. A tight game against Colchester, 1-0 down early on before going in at the break 3-1 up. Gavin Massey scored his second for the U's which led to a backs to the wall final 20 minutes. Rochdale rolled into town unbeaten in the league and needed a goal in the 105th minute. For the first time this season a side has had more possession than us.

*September brings the JPT against Swindon and 6 league matches including the televised Scunthorpe home match and a trip to Coventry

September 2019

League Two

sept19-results.png

sept19-table.png

An up and down month for us. Wins here followed by defeats. Very poor in both games agianst Stockport and Wycombe coming off the back of our two best displays so far. Worked hard and everyone played well at Coventry while the Hartlepool game brought three great goals and plenty of entertainment .

JPT

sept19-jpt.png

Didn't bother with this match too much. Only 3 regualrs played. Outplayed by the League One side in the second half.

*October brings games against high flying Chester and Oldham but also lowly Grimsby and Torquay.

October 2019

League Two

oct19-results.png

oct19-table.png

11 points from 18 not a bad return and pushed us up into the play-offs. Fought back from 2-0 against Cambridge while our three wins were all tight matches. Torquay struck late for our defeat this month.

oct19-potm.png

Again a couple more players excelling

*November brings a trip to League One Walsall in the FA Cup and league matches against many teams in the bottom seven.

November 2019

League Two

nov19-results.png

nov19-table.png

Hello four wins from five and now starting to pull away from the teams outside the play-offs. Take this with a pinch of salt as the games were against struggling teams but its a great place to be. Back from 1-0 against Carlisle and ended up comfortable while MK Dons were asleep in the first and last minute. Two quick goals saw off York while new signing Derek Jackson, loaned for a month from Swindon, stepped off the bench with a late winner against Gateshead. The Dag and Red match was terrible. Our goal from the penalty spot was the only shot on target while the visitors had three goals disallowed.

FA Cup

nov19-fac.png

Plenty of action here, oe down, two one up then three goals in last ten mintes put us out before a consolation goal from Wiltshere. Takes him to 17 in 24 in all comps, not bad for a player who has only scored 23 in last 6 years coming through the Pompey youth system.

nov19-potm.png

Once again Rowley impresses. The 21 year old only signed for us in September as back up for CB. Injuries pushed him into the team and the former Colchester defender sits with 17 apps, ave rating of 7.46. During his time at Colchester he failed to make a single apperance in any competition. Brilliant signing.

*December has 6 league matches with a match against AFC Telford the only side outside the top 11.

November to March

League Two

mar20-results.png

mar20-tale.png

December wasn't a great month with just the one win meaning an adventure into the transfer window was required. In came Liam Baines from Droylsden for £100k, Tyler Harvey from Plymouth for £26k, Carl fon Williams from Bangor for £10k, Charlie White from Coventry for £5k and David McLaughlin from Shelbourne on a free. It has meant the squad is slightly bloated but with a few injuries in the New Year it was needed. The new signings settled well and 9 point from 12 in January put us in the hunt for a top three spot. Two wins and two defeats in Feb were useful, ending the month beating leaders Oldham away. As March came the top 4 started to break away but our defeat at Dag and Red has given us a bit of catching up to do in the final 5 games.

april20-results.png

Just when we needed a five match unbeaten run, one comes along!! Promotion has been clinched. Against the odds of everyone and a great way to justify resigning from Championship side Leicester and coming to a League Two side.

What a differnence a year makes.....

Two of the summer signings, Fisher and Pelosi, are expected to be first teamers. The rest are likely to play back up but it gives the squad some decent depth. 16 players have left the club this summer and another two on loan.

A pleasing bunch of friendlies if you ignore the Gillingham beating...

August 2020

League One

aug20-results.png

aug20-table.png

Not the start we wanted at all with two defeats and in both games the score could have been much worse. Then whipping boys Fulham rolled into town. Already beaten 6-0 away to last seasons League Two champions Oldham we inflicted the same pain on them. The month ended with a tight win at Bournemouth.

League Cup

aug20-lgecup.png

Two away day giant killings. Firstly beating Championship side Stevenage 8-7 on penalities. Could have won it in normal time had it not been for an 86th o.g. Then a trip to Premier League side West Ham. Again a goal up but let the Hammers dominate the second half. With the score at 1-1 on loan left back Robin Fisher got himself sent off in the 86th minute. A bit of a pattern with that minute in the League Cup. But from one of our few corners centre back Justin Rowley headed in a winner with just two to play. The money from the gate reciepts also puts us back into the black while the third round draw failed to bring a top team. Championship side Burnley at home next for us.

Well done almost doubling their points total to go up

Cheers

Couldn't believe it. Lost my best player in Harris and of the six players i signed only two featured regularly and one of those only really got a run in the team from January.

Really enjoyed reading this, have to disagree with above i think the move to Bolton was legit and you took some good players from Port Vale, there is a trend about jumping before pushed though haha, still a great read and exciting times ahead with Pompey

 jumping before pushed!!! I do regret leaving Port Vale, more so now seeing them in the in the Championship. Although i seem a lucky charm for most clubs, once i've left!! Boston, Port Vale, Bolton and Leicester all achieved promotion.

I have at Portsmouth what i wanted at Bolton, enough money to work with without worrying and trying to take a larger club back up the leagues. I have a couple of youngsters cming through and on the whole the squad is young and ambitious.

Just the one deafeat away to the leage leaders Rotherham too many draws mean we aren't moving up really. A couple of games in hand on the teams aove so a nice run in October will see us towards the top 6.

League Cup

sept20-lgecup.png

We did well in the two pevious rounds but never in this match. Two down inside ten minutes led to a stroll for Burnley.
