Preston marches on, but where?

The talk on the stands is worrying. The talk in the press conferences is worrying. Preston Nort End lives dangerous times. Relegation looms around the corner and the manager seems to be unable to do anthing about it. December was a dissapointment. PNE won some but lost more than they wanted. On the upnote, the battle against Milwall was encouraging. Preston was trailin by 3-1 on the half time but they fought back and 3-3 was the full time score. Cresswell and Fuller seem to be doing allright at the front and the new loan signing Matthew Kilgallon looks promising.

Manager Ossi Saarinen was hopefull when entering the new year. "There is allways hope and we just have to believe in ourselves. We still eye a midtable positions and if everything goes fine we can achieve that. We don't have much money on transfers so buying quality players isn't an option. We're not like Reading or the big teams who splash out money when they need players. I think the only option is to hope our yougsters are ready for the challenge."

Natinwide round up - January 2004

The halfway point of the season has just passed with Wimbledon manager Rob Stone sitting pretty at the top of division 1 on 58points, 2nd place is Nottingham Forest with 51 points lead by fearless Yorkshireman, Dez Wilkins. 3rd spot is currently held by Cheeky Londoner jediMonkey and his Millwall side. At the other end of the table are Poor Burnley, Manager Joe Finnigan can only look on as his team succumb to defeat after defeat and slip into the relegation zone, seperated from the bottom spot only by a Rotherham team playing equally as poor football.

Mixed fortunes can be seen elsewhere in Division One, as the season draws towards its dramatic conclusion only 4 months away now. WBA seem to be stumbling over the New Year period, dropping points and subsequently loosing ground on the front runners. The once 2nd placed team find themselves clinging onto a play off position by the skin of their teeth at the moment. Manager Rich Stevens will be desperate to see a return to the early season form that saw the Baggies display title contender form.

Cardiff City are another side struggling to find real rhythm. Manager Mike Carnie has seen his Welsh side put in a mixture of good and bad performances, this mixed bag of results has seen Cardiff yo-yoing between 9th and 6th, it looks like a respectable league finish is on the cards for them.

Similar performances from Ipswich and Preston leave them still in the bottom half, but the major shocks of the season so far as far as Division One is concerned is the managerial departures. Franco Cataldo resigned from his position as Sheffield United Manager. The Blades side are left struggling in the lower half of the table. Cataldo spoke recently of his desire to concentrate on other things in his life, away from football.

The Week's headlines have been dominated by the going's on in Reading. The facts surrounding Kjellebassen's departure from Reading FC are a little sketchy at the moment. Rumours of a clash with the board over financial issues are being heard springing from many quarters. No official statement has come forth from the Reading board other than to say Kjellebassen had his contract terminated with immediate affect. The Norweigan didn't spend long out of a job though and was quickly installed as the new manager at troubled 2nd division outfit, Notts County. Money will be even tighter for Kjelle this time round as the Magpies are currently in administration, struggling for their survival, languishing in 23rd position, the drop would surely finish the club off.

Stay tuned as we watch this exciting league campaign unfold, it looks like it will be one of the most exciting in years.

Next time, a look at how teams are fairing North of the boarder in the SPL.....

This brilliant run had seen Wimbledon gain a ten point gap at the top of the league, something which the fans and the administrators will have been dreaming of at the beginning of the season.

Top three at end of play

Team........Pld..W..D.L.GD.Points

Wimbledon... 27 21 1 5 +36 64

Notts Forest 26 16 6 4 +24 54

Millwall........ 27 14 9 4 +21 51

Unfortunately however, this unlikely challenge for the title has brought unwanted attention for the clubs stars, and as the January transfer window opened manager Rob Stone certainly feared what to come.

Fortunately for the Dons only one departure has happened so far, the unwanted 170k departure of star defender Leighterwood. 170k was certainly bad business for the best performing central defender in division one, with an average rating of 7.40, but it was a move that Stone had no say in.

On the overhand, January was contract expiry month, and scouting for available on a bosman could begin. Only players who Stone believed could be useful additions in the premier league were targeted as their form has seen no sign of waning despite their ever depleted squad. Hot shot Sam Parkin was the first to agree terms on a contract worth 2,600k p/wk, making him one of Wimbledons top earners. This would not go through until the summer though, and due to injuries, sales, and suspensions, only 1 defender centre is currently available for selection, not a single right back, and only one left and right midfielder Stone was certainly on the look out for any free players that could be signed on short term deals to boost his squad.

Despite this the Wimbledon steam train continues, and who knows, could soon be heading for the premiership whilst teams of the star players who have deserted them sink further down the table………

Crisis at WBA????

Rich Stevens criticised all his players after there dismal display at Rotheram. Albion have currently hit a bad patch and points are seeming very hard to come by. Manager Rich Stevens has said that the team is lacking consistency and that he is sure when everyones's confidence rises the wind will start again.

Confidence is low at the Hawthorns after a last minute fluke condemned them to a 2-1 defeat against tital rivals Nottingham Forest before the defeat at Millmoor.

Reports are still saying that his number one transfer target is Leon Knight. Converting chances have obviosly been a problem for the team and Stevens feels Knight would be a perfect player to fit in the team.

Brighton however, have already rejected a bid of around 1 million and Manager Mark McGhee is keen to ensure Knight does not leave Withdean.

If this is the case, Stevens may have to expand his search elsewhere.

Kjellebassen "asking" to get sacked and move from Reading to Notts County

After a string of bad results because lots of good players constantly underperformed I finally lost patience and decided to ask my board for more transfer-founds (Something I didn't expect to get) and as expected my board said NO and I issued an ultimatum and got sacked icon_biggrin.gif

I was now tired of managing a club I didn't support so I denied to take on Rotherham (Rival of the Blades) and instead took on Notts County wich was 23rd. in div. 2 at the time and have a crap squad left when I took over....but what the heck?! icon_biggrin.gif I love them so I want to manage them icon_biggrin.gif

The first match in charge of my new club was at home against Brighton and despite losing 4-2 I felt the match was a step in the right direction on the road to avoiding relegation. My team consisted almost only youngsters from own youth-team so I wasn't dissapointed with a such result against one of the strongets sides in the division.

Hope we can build futher on this and have many fruitful years to come. icon14.gif

SPL reaches half-way mark - January 2004

Early season saw Anthony Donnachie's Celtic set off on a blistering run of form, which saw them set a hefty gap between themselves and the rest of the chasing pack, it was a different story for city rivals, Rangers. Indeed Celtic have only lost one SPL game all season, 2-1 away to Livingston at the end of October. Caleyjag's Rangers on the other hand have had far from a smooth ride, right from the kick off. Involved in some remarkable games earler on Including the astonishing 6-5 away win at Killmarnock. Another noteable result would be the opening day defeat against Hibs away, 3-1 the score line there.

Everyone knows the importance of the Old Firm derby's both for cross city pride, but more importantly for success in the SPL. So far Celtic hold the upperhand from the two games played. The first meeting between the two was at the end of September. Celtic ran out winners there infront of a packed Ibrox crowd. The 'gers loosing valuable ground on Celtic early in the season. Fast forward to Boxing day and Celtic Park, Glasgow. What a treat football fans in Glasgow were in for. Rangers had to repeatably battle from behind against a free scoring Celtic side. But battle they did and a final score of 4-4 prevented Rangers falling even further behind Celtic in the race for the SPL title.

As things stand Celtic have a 5pt lead on Rangers at the top on 50 points. Rangers are already 12pts clear of 3rd place Hibs, so it is certainly shaping up to be typical two horse race, a two horse race that this season Rangers are going to fight long and hard to stay part of.

Its a long way to go yet and as usual we will be watching all the way.

Burnley continue to struggle as they drop into bottom three

Burnley manager Joe Finnigan has admitted that it will take a lot for him to turn his club's fortunes around by the end of the season, and avoid relegation to Division 2.

Burnley have always been languishing in the lower reaches of the table since the season began in early August, but it was only last month when the Clarets dropped into the relegation zone for the first time after a shocking run of defeats. They have only won one of their previous nine league games, and have failed to hit the target in five of their last six matches. They are also out of both the League Cup and FA Cup; they had a fairly good run in the League Cup before being outpowered by Premiership outfit Chelsea in the fourth round, after previous cup wins over Grimsby and Cardiff. They were knocked out of the FA Cup in the third round after suffering a heavy 4-0 defeat away to Second Division leaders Bristol City.

However, it has not been all doom and gloom for Finnigan's side. They have gained points against teams high above them in the league, with a surprise 2-0 win away to Nottingham Forest in early September, and they have also held promotion-chasers West Ham and Millwall to draws in the last few months. However, it is the defeats to teams close to them in the bottom half of the table that has cost them valuable points, and put them in danger of getting relegated.

In early January, Burnley completed the signing of their old striker Gareth Taylor, from Nottingham Forest on a free transfer. With Burnley's financial status believed to be in a fairly bad state, meaning Finnigan is unable to spend any money on new players, that Burnley will probably have to settle for free transfer signings or loans before they can have any chance of recovering from their poor form in the first half of the 2003/04 season.

With Luke Chadwick's loan set to end at the end of the season, and Glen Little unwilling to sign a new contract for the Clarets, it looks like Burnley's season could collapse, and possibly even their distant future after the 2003/04 season has ended. Only time will tell if Burnley can make a recovery in the second half of the season and escape from the danger of relegation.

Cardiff keep up the pressure

With the Board expecting a sorry season for Cardiff, manager Mike Carnie boldly announced his own personal expectations to his players. Leaks from within the club reveal that Carnie has told his players that he will expect nothing less than "reaching the playoffs" with "hopes of playing Premiership Football next season."

Carnie's dreams quickly came to see reality when they dynamically reached 4th place, level on points with those above his club following a 6 match winning streak. Losing two games in a row soon put a hamper on Carnie's ambition, but winning their 27th game woudl easily put them 7th, and if other matches go their way, potentially 5th.

Carnie has also been quick to speak out in the media over his £1.3M signing of former Man United Reserves striker Daniel Nardeillo. Carnie has critisised his signings performances, saying that "he plays the same way I do, which is utter ****."

Carnie is however, pleased with his on Loan player David Bellion's performances, following his partnership with Robert Earnshaw upfront. Bellion was a key player in the 2-0 defeat of struggling side, Burnely.

We hope to bring you more news on the Cardiff shockwave, including allogations of Carnie being seen playing "52-card pickup" with fellow manager, Jedi Monkey.

Manager Rob Stone In showdown meeting with administrators.

Wimbledon manager Rob Stone has demanded a showdown meeting with the clubs administrators in an attempt to ensure no more of the clubs stars are sold off on the cheap this season. In an exclusive interview with the Daily Mirror Manager Rob Stone gave the following frank interview.

“When I came to this club I was fully aware of the problems that we had, and the struggle that the job would bring, and I can accept that with a debt of 14m administration was a certainty. I was also fully willing to accept some player departures as cost cutting was a necessity. What I am not prepared to accept now, however, is the selling of star players in January when we have a ten point gap at the top of the league. Leighterwoods 170k sale was a deal that I had no knowledge of until the day it went through. I was appalled as with the debts we have that fee doesn’t make any difference to our situation whatsoever, wheras losing our star defender could cost us our chance at getting into the premiership and the 20m pound bounty that it brings.

It’s true I’ve demanded a meeting with them and will say the same thing to them then, and that is simply this. I will not accept any further sales, not one. They are risking the future of this club as if promotion is not achieved this season, then this club is basically over. I’ll tell them straight, and make sure they understand how serious I am about this.â€

What does the future hold for the Dons? No-one can be sure, but if Wimbledon can get promotion to the premiership this season then a much more rosy future is viable.

The day it started to fall apart.

As January drew to a close Rob Stone was left regretting comments he had made in previous interview about promotion, as something had changed in team, and it wasn't good.

The Leighterwood sale infuriated him, and in the three league games after it Wimbledon conceded 7 goals and scored none. THey had been outplayed by Walsall, Millwall, and Cardiff and scraped through the F.A cup 4th round against Boston after a replay. Something wasn't right. THeir squad was smaller because of injuries, but it had been small all season and the team had coped.

January saw Wimbledon lose their 10 point lead at the top and fall to second, they had lost their 11 point goal difference advantage over Forest, who were now top of the table on goal difference.

Dons manager Stone was left hoping January was just a freak month, but the performances had been so dissapointing that he was not hopeful. Hopefully February can see a return to the form that took the top of the table and that the championship can be won.

Who knows what will happen.

Millwall - Kings Of The Cup

January had been a unusual month for the Lions, 2 wins, a few draws and a loss in the league meant that by the end they were trailing behind the two automatic promotion spots by 7 points. However thanks to Wimbledon finally starting to do what everyone had been expecting them to, lose, well, they were only 7 pts off the lead as well, much better then the 11 it was at the start of the month.

Pushing aside the league for a minute, January was time for the FA Cup, the oldest in the world, the most prestigious in the world, and one every club wants to win. The third round saw Millwall play lowly Halifax where they were given a good hard thrashing, 7-0 in fact, with talented young prospect Cherno Samba coming on to score two goals. On to the fourth round, and the draw was not an easy one, home to the big-spenders Chelsea.

On the day, Chelsea fielded a full strength side with the likes of, Crespo, Gudjohnsesn, Mutu, Veron, Cole and Duff playing against thier south london rivals of Harris, Weatherson, Sweeney, Ifil, Whelan and of course old Chelsea favourite Dennis Wise.

Chelsea of course dominated the game, but Millwall played excellent counter-attacking football and managed two goals on the break. 2-0 up, and looking good if they could just hang on. But when playing against the richest that the premiership has to offer, you know there will be a tough job ahead. They piled on the pressure managing to get a goal back. 2-1. And then, on his first game back from injury, Millwall Captain Dennis Wise lost his head and fouled his opponent in the box. PENALTY!!. 2-2.

Not to be discouraged though, two minutes later at the other end of the park, Peter Sweeney scored a delightful free kick, bottom right corner. 3-2. After that it was all Chelsea, could Millwall hang on for 20 more minutes. They hung and they hung, until the 91st, Chelsea had a corner, got a flick on, Warner in goal flapped at it, it was 3-3. But no, the referee whistled, it was disallowed, there had been pushing in the box. Sighs of Relief echoed round the New Den!!. And then it was all over, Millwall were through to the FA Cup Fourth Round. Chelsea were going home, beaten, ashamed, gutted!

Forest charge to the top

PART ONE

Expectations are rising all round the city ground during the past 3 months. Nottingham Forest have been unbeaten in the league since the 6th of December. This unbeaten run has helped to propell the reds to the top of the table. In the first of this two part special, we shall look at the games that are part of this successful run and focus on Forest's rise to the top. We shall also plot how The Reds got on in the FA cup 3rd round tie against Premiership side, Charlton.

6th December 2003

Millwall 2-0 Forest

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">

Ifill 53 Dawson s/o 42

Bopp OG 75

Attendence: 17480

</pre>

Forest owed a lot to the heroics of goalkeeper Stekelenburg for keeping the scores level at half time. The dutch stopper saved several Millwall efforts at close range as the lions surged forward early on. Before the break trouble bloomed for Forest when Centre back Michael Dawson was shown the red card for throwing an elbow at Bob Peeters, it appeared to "catch" the Millwall striker in the face. Forest were down to ten men. Millwall eventually broke the deadlock on 52 mins. A Sweeney corner looped in for Paul Ifil to meet unapposed at the near post to head home. the 2nd goal came, again from a Sweeney corner, on 75 mins. Struck to the back post Where Peeters met it and headed back towards goal. the header took a deflection off Bopp who had taken up position on the far post. It was 2-0 and there was no way back for The Reds now.

13th December 2003

Forest 0-0 Wigan

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">

Attendence: 17825

</pre>

Not an indication that an unbeaten run was about to start, by any means, however Forest were the better side. Failure to find the target cost the home side and they must have felt aggreived not to take all three points.

17th December 2003

Sunderland 1-1 Forest

<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">

Welsh 77 Thompson 59

John Thompson, in for the suspended Michael Dawson, scored Forest's only goal. He pounced on the rebound from a low driven Michael Stewart free kick. The Black Cats keeper did well to turn the shot onto the post but Thompson reacted quickest and slotted home from 10 yards. john Welsh leveled the score line on 77 mins with a close range shot to beat the stranded Forest keeper at his near post. Welsh rounded off a sweet Sunderland attacking move, their first real attacking display in the game. The reds had let 3 points slip from their grasp again.

Boxing Day's visit to the Britania Stadium started well enough. Forest were 2-0 up at half time, but Stoke rallied together at half time and came out looking like a different team after the break. 2 goals in the space of seven minutes leveled the tie and although the visitors managed to regain the upper hand in the last half hour they were unable to regain the lead. The first game of the Christmas period ended all square.

So here it was, Nottingham Forest's first outing of the season in the most prestigious cup competition in the world. Not the most favourable of draw's to come out of Soho Square for the Division One side, but never the less a tie Forest Gaffer Wilkins was relishing. Injury to David Johnson after only 14 minutes meant things had to be changed early on. Thrust in to the fold was one Supat Rungratsamee. The 15 year old had already made a name for himself playing in the Carling Cup, scoring in two seperate rounds, he was set to carry on the trend of cup scoring exploits when he latched onto a Harewood through ball five minutes after coming on. He cooly took the ball in his stride and slotted past the advancing Charlton Keeper to make it 1-0 Forest. Three minutes later and the youngster, affectionately known as Rugrat by the fans and players alike, latched onto an Andy Reid pass over the top. He calmly slotted past the Charlton keeper for the 2nd time only to see it ruled out, Rugrat was ajudged to have been off-side. Carlton Cole's 69th minute equaliser spoilt the day for the City Ground faithful and forced the game to a replay at the Valley in 10 days time.

West Ham were occupying one of the play-off spots just below Nottingham forest so the trip to London would prove to be one of the biggest games of the season for both sides. Christian Dailly struck on the half hour from a corner. He rose highest to meet the inswinging delivery. His header guided it back towards the near post and in to an unguarded net. There was nothing Goal keeper Darren Ward could do but pick the ball out of an empty net. In a game of few chances it didn't look like the scoreline was likely to change. Into the 2nd half and the final few minutes, a tactical switch by Forest led to them playing 5 men up front. It was a risk, but a risk that paid off. Two goals from Star man David Johnson rescued the game and sent Forest home with three points. They say its a sign of true champions when a team can play poorly but manage to grind out a win, was this one of those signs???

This takes us up to the half way point of the season. 23 games played, 23 still to go. Nottingham forest trailed Wimbledon by 7 points. While January turned out to be a miserable month for Wimbledon, it proved to be the corner stone for Forest to strengthen their quest for automatic promotion to the Premiership, and possibly even the Division One title to go with it. In the next issue of Forest Focus we shall look at January and February's results and see how Forest began March top of the table.

Cardiff still on the up

Cardiff City Manager Mike Carnie has been warmly congratulated by the fans of the club, following the Teams successes on the field.

Carnie has brought Cardiff up to 7th in the Table, trailing only by one goal to W.B.A

An unexpected 3-0 win over table toppers Wimbledon strengthened the clubs ambition, but the club has been wracked by injuries and news that CLub Captain, Gareth Whalley will be leaving at the end of the season on a Free Transfer to Wolves. Carnie has vowed to try and bring him back, even being prepared to pay to get his dynamic midfielder back.

News of key winger, John Robinson being out for 2 or 3 weeks has also left a slight frown on many a fans face. He joins Scott Young and Tony Vidmar on the injury list and Danny Gabbidon is also suspended.

Mike Carnie has also been engaging much of the backroom staff in contract talks, as many of them coudl walk away in the summer. Sub Keeper Stephen Bywater is also injured, and having not played any games this season so far for Cardiff, many are saying that the 750k former West Ham number 2 was a waste, but Carnie insists that he will prove his worth.

We hope to bring you more updates very soon.

Clarets slump to bottom of table

Burnley have failed to improve on their poor performances in the first half of the season, and they have now dropped into 24th place, with only 12 league games left to be played.

Manager Joe Finnigan would've thought that his team's season could not get any worse, after a series of bad results resulted in them dropping into the relegation zone. However, 2004 has not brought anything to Burnley in the way of luck, and with just two victories so far this year they are now in last place, and seven points away from safety.

However, Burnley have played slightly better in 2004 than in 2003, with a couple of new loan signings from clubs in higher positions in the league such as Millwall and Cardiff, although a loan deal for a Cardiff player to go to Burnley until the end of the season has now been called off. As well as the signing of Gareth Taylor from Nottingham Forest early in the year, Finnigan sealed the loan signings of Serge Makofo and Paul Robinson from Millwall, and Makofo in particular has certainly helped Burnley on a few occasions in the past month or so. The striker scored in his first game for Burnley against Bradford in mid-February, but that goal was not enough to stop his side from losing 2-1 to the Bantams.

Burnley have been unlucky in several of their matches as well, as Bradford came from behind and scored a last minute winner in the match mentioned above. The two Burnley league wins in 2004 that were mentioned previously were against Reading and Sheffield United, with the results being 3-1 and 2-1 to Burnley respectively. The win over Reading was arguably deserved but the Blades would have been disappointed to walk away from Turf Moor without a point, in a match that was dominated by them for large periods of the game.

Even Rotherham have overtaken Burnley in the league now, and Burnley's next two games will be crucial if they are to stay up - they are both home games against Gillingham, who are just above the relegation zone in 20th place, and Ipswich who are inside the relegation places in 22nd position. These will be seen as must-win games for Burnley, if they are to stay up and avoid being relegated. For the Clarets now, things can really only get better.

SPL blown wide open,Larsson returns

Anthony Donnachie was interviewed yesterday about Celtics recent form:

Reporter-How do you feel about your teams form of late.

Anthony Donnachie-I feel frustrated. We were touted to kill the league off in the old firm derby, but it had the opposite effect, and we have had bad results of late, only losing one but drawing frequently.

R-Do you think you can win the league from here?

AD-I have no doubt. We are three points clear, but Rangers have a tricky game in hand.Henrik returned and has scored in every game since. He is the driving force that will make the difference,In my opinion.

R- Whats your thoughts on your Champions league chances.

AD-It was not as dissappointing as we first thought,as it was only 1-0.Although we didnt get an away goal,We have one of the best home records in Europe.I am confident of progressing.

R-Any signings on the cards?

AD-No coment

R- thanks Anthony

A new face at Bramall Lane

Just as things were looking up for Sheffield United, came the news that Franco had left the club. The long suffering supporters felt that Italian's style had just started to show itself on the field.

Alongside the directors cars parked outside the ground, in the space vacated by Franco's Ferrarri, is now a Vauxhall Corsa. With the appointment of Ziggy Zigson coming as a complete surprise to the Blades' demanding fans, the board were said to be desperate for instant results.

Sheffield United 6 - 0 West Ham

An awsome start for United's new boss as his new charges put on a wondershow to confound the bookeys. Kabba surely put on the First Division's display of the season as he gave London's promotion hopefuls a hammering to lift the gloom at Bramall Lane.

Sadly, the honeymoon period ended there.

Shefield United 0 - 3 Liverpool

Back down to earth with a sickening crunch for Zigson as his team were completely outclassed, out performed, and out of the cup.

Zigson's first signing, Netherlands legend Artur Newman, was visibly concerned by his first taste of defeat for his new employers. Other new faces at the club include Graham Guy a £26,000 steal from Cheltenham, and Arsenal club mates Stepanovs and keeper Rami Shaaban, all of whom have instantly commanded first team places.

WBA 1 - 1 Sheffield United

Honours shared between Stevens' at times classy side, and Zigson's determined fighters.

Sheffield United 1 - 1 Norwich

Another draw keeps the Blades looking nervously over their shoulders, still 17th in the table.

Burnley 2 - 1 Sheffield United

Silence reigned on the short coach trip home from their visit to Lancashire, as United wondered how they had lost this one. A bizarre goal mouth scramble, and any number of spurned chances, had cost Zigson 3 points. On a more positive note, these events ushered in his first attacking signing.

Leo Fortune-West, a £60,000 capture from Doncaster, was a reaction to the sides worstening luck in front of goal.

Sheffield United 2 - 0 Reading

3 much needed points and a debut goal from Fortune-West pushed United up to 16th in the table, and Kabba was in irresistable form once more.

Zigson was positively aglow with praise for his new signings after the match. "I'm not going to single anyone out, but Stepanovs has been a mountain at the back in the last few games. I mean, a 7.5 average rating, I'm made up for the lad" he droned.

Cardiff 2 - 0 Sheffield United

With Peter Ndlovu finally back from the African Cup of Nations, Zigson had high hopes. Hopes that left on a stretcher in the 25th minute. Ndlovu was out once more.

Sheffield United 1 - 0 Wimbledon

A tight game was decided by a single strike from substitute Magallanes.

Sheffield United 0 - 1 Nottingham Forest

Table toppers Nottingham Forest had it all their own way and fully deserved the 3 precious points at a muted Bramall Lane. 3 hours after the final whistle, Zigson was seen to be still seated in the dugout with a pen and pad of paper, trying to comprehend the tactics employed by Dez.

"It shouldn't work, it's not right, it shouldn't work..." he grumbled.

So, a roller-coaster start for Zigson at Sheffield United. With the club slipping towards the red, and still perilously close to the drop-zone, a tough end to the seaon is expected by all.

Stevens blasts pathetic Jeremy Peace

Stevens today has described his disgust towards W.B.A chairman Jeremy Peace after his shock dismissal from the club.

W.B.A were pushing for an automatic promotion place when the decision was made by the club, and many fans are thought to be tottaly gutted to lose such as a promising manager. Stevens wishes the best to the team but says they will never go far with the current chirman in power.

Stevens has now taken control of struggling watford and his first job is to cut the wage bill down due to the financial problems the club are under.

With only one game played he can still boast an unbeaten record after a 0 - 0 draw with fellow strugglers Stoke City. The game had very few chances and there were very few goalscoring chances.

With no money to spend Stevens will be looking for posible loan signings to try and get the club out of trouble.

Caley returns from self imposed media exhile

Rangers gaffer CaleyJag returned from his media silence today after Rangers snatched top place from the claws of Old Firm rivals Celtic in what is fast becoming one of the tightest league races in recent years.

The resurgance of the Glorious Teddy Bears as title challengers took place in the second Old Firm encounter of the season.

With the Gers trailing 3-1, Caley resorted to changing his familiar 4-4-2 setup to a new and untested 4-1-3-2 style. It paid off, and the game ended 4-4. A classic game that both sets of fans enjoyed.

The Rangers manager kept that formation for the next series of games that saw the boys in blue unbeaten and fight back the 7 point defecit that Celtic had amassed between them and the top of the table.

Now sitting pretty at the top of the table, the Boys from Ibrox are equal on points with the Bhoys, but hold a healthier Goals For column. There is still a long way to go, but as the slogan goes "Aye Ready" and the Blue & White Army will be as ready as possible the next time their rivals from the other end of Glasgow come to challenge their crown as Scottish Champions.

PNE breaks the silence

Preston isn't doing so badly anymore. You can see it everywhere. The fans are smiling, the players seem to have fun on the pitch and the manager Ossi Saarinen has quit smoking, well he never has smoked. Slowly but surely PNE is climbing it's way from the bottom of the league to the upper half of the table. And nobody can't forget the wonderfull cup run. Mr. Saarinen tried to explain the reasons behind the rise.

"Well as we say in Finland, Perkele täältä tullaan, we have come a long way baby. We are playing more as a team nowdays. Our loan signings Kilgallon and Bart-Williams are essential part of our defence. Also the striker force is doing their part now. Fuller was injured at the start of the season and that showed, but now when he's fit nothing can't stop him. The same goes to Cresswell. Our midfield, especially Dickson Etuhiu is very competive at the monemt and the can feed out on-form strikers. The cup is now our top priority and the gama against Tottenham is very important. We've had a great run in the cup and let's hope the train keeps on moving forward."

Not much have happened after I took the reign at Meadow Lane. A few loan-signings are made to tighten tyhe squad up and get a little more quality into the side.

After I took over the results have varied from completely dreadful losses to great wins but my league posision is still the same (23rd.). I hope to pick up some kind of form in the late stages of the season and pull out of the relegation-zone. It's 6 points up to the safe spot so it's still a possibility. icon_wink.gif

CALEYJAG IN NOT SO SHOCKING RESIGNATION!

Despite the board trying to convince Rangers gaffers Caleyjag that he would be foolish to leave the post of Gers manager, he decided to call it a day after what will go down as one of the shortest terms of management the Ibrox club has ever witnessed.

Despite a fantastic run in the league during the first half of the season, the team fell apart and Stans Celtic took a massive 9 point lead before caleys departure from the job. It now looks certain that a job at his beloved local team Inverness Caledonian Thistle is on the cards after the Caley board announced they would find it hard to resist the lure of hiring the ex-gers boss should Robbo get the boot.

here in an exclusive interview, Caley tells of his time at the Gers as well as why he decided to call it a day....

Interview with ex-gers (non-legend) Caleyjag

First off Caley, how would you describe the experience of being the Rangers gaffer?

To be honest, it really was a great experience, but inemp goalkeeping and refereeing put me off it greatly. Especially as at this level, even the smallest mistake can be costly. More so in the European games.

Talk us through that exit from the UEFA Cup. How did you feel you fared in the competition?

Utter friggin dross! We got past christmas, which as a Rangers manager, is fantastic, as only a handfull have managed it before. But we threw away a very good chance to win against HSV in the first leg, and some crap goalkeeping proved our downfall.

Indeed, you have rotated the goallies about quite a bit in the latter half of the season. Was Klos really that bad?

You have no idea do you? Go watch a friggin match from this season before you start asking silly questions. The man was pap!

Er.... right. Okay. Moving on... any good points of being in charge?

Gotta be two of the most fantastic matches I ever witnessed. The 4-4 game with Stans Celtic was great. Losing 3-1, altered tactics, and fought out a draw. But beating that by a country mile was the Killie game at the start of the season. If you haven't seen it, I suggest having a look. Wonderful game, and to be honest, you won't see another like it in your life!

And for those that havent yet seen it, check it out!

What do you think was the turning point of the season? What made you decide to leave?

I was toying with the idea since christmas time. Basically, the team was full of fuppers. Not a decent player there at all. The youth impressed me. MacLean, Namouchi and Ben Stevens are gonna have a great future at the club, but as for the rest icon_mad.gif[comments edited due to obscene profanities about Klos' parentage and stuff to do with rabbits]

I would say that the straw that broke the camels back was the sending off of MacLean in the UEFA Cup game against HSV. As far as I could see, he got sent off because Lovenkrands collapsed on the pitch injured. That referee should hang his head in shame for that. In fact, he should just hang himself! The FA were no better. We appealed and they saw nothing to show MacLean was innocent. They couldn't see the woods for the trees ffs!!

View the controversial incident here

So what now?

Its no secret that I love Caley Thistle. I wouldnt mind the chance of trying my hand at them. But we'll see in pre-season. I'm taking a break for now, and may fancy a crack in England. There are quite a few teams that I have looked at that I feel I could do a job at.

And any last message to the Rangers fans?

Yes. Your team is full of diddies.

***Breaking News***

Bob Murray’s Bewildering Black-Cat’s Appointment

This morning, Sunderland’s chairman, Bob Murray sensationally appointed relative unknown Manchester Sunday league coach, Shaun Kelly as manager of the first team. In a statement released to the press, Murray stated that he had large plans for the club, which required a new face at the helm, and a new approach to the game. The club, who tremendously underperformed last season, in finishing at a measly 14th in the Nationwide First Division, have taken a major risk in appointing such an unknown manager.

Upon leaving The Stadium of Light, Kelly had the following words to say:

“I’m extremely pleased to announce that I have signed a contract with Sunderland AFC, for the next three years, depending on performances. I have high hopes for this club, and am looking, ideally, to promotion as soon as possible. Maybe it will happen this season, maybe it won’t. But I do know that this very talented squad will push and push till the last day of the season, and myself and the current squad of players are going to write a new chapter in the history of Sunderland Football Clubâ€

A number of Sunderland stars were questioned about Kelly's appointment, but none were prepared to comment on such an extraordinary move by Chairman Bob Murray.

Cardiff's Promotion Hopes dashed

Mike Carnie's Cardiff finished their season in an exciting Fourth place following a fantastic season.

At the tail end of the season, Cardiff were due to play 2nd placed Millwall, and expecting a tough match, Carnie played his best squad. A tough match it was when in the early stages, Millwall scored a beautiful goal. But that was all the effort Millwall woudl show. A clumsy back header left Lee out in the Clear to score, and then their defense was demorilised, leading on to Cardiff routing the title contenders and demolishing them 5-1.

In the end though, it was all down to the playoffs, as 4th played 6th in the Semi-Final. At Ninian Park it was 0-0. Back at wherever Norwich stick their jumpers for goal posts, Norwich took an early lead, and all that cardiff woudl need is a Goal to go through on the away goals rule. Youngster Ben May nearly pulled it off, but the Keeper tipped it over. But it had been a long season for the boys from ninian park. The season had taken its toll and Norwich went on to score 2 more goals before the final whistle. Cardiff will have to play First Division Football next season.....

Wimbledons dream falls apart

Despite being 14 points clear of the third place with 19 game of the season to go Wimbledon fell apart spectacularly and missed out on second place by a single point to JediMonkeys Millwall. On the last day of the season Wimbledon travelled to Norwich a point behind Millwall, who went on to draw there last match. So basically, after getting 19 points from the last 18 games, Wimbledon had to beat Norwich, but only managed a heart renching 2-1 loss.

A 6-1 aggregate win in the play-off semi finals against W.B.A. was a great result, and once again Norwich were between the financial saviour of the premiership, and another season in Division one.

Unfortunately for Wimbledon, it just wasn't there day, and as manager Rob Stone threw everything forward his team collapsed, and lost 4-0.

The end of the season had been a disaster, and Rob Stones plans for the premiership had been ruined, and several deals that were in the pipeline had to be switly removed.

Another season it was in division 1 for the Dons, which Rob Stone has assured fans he will be in charge for.

Lions Flying High

After the exploits of January in the cup, the boys at Millwall were flying high, moving thier good form into the league. 3 wins and 3 draws in the next 6 matches (including a 3-1 victory over Bristol City in the FA Cup 5th Round) saw them slowly start to reduce the gap from 3rd to 2nd. It also included a 2-0 victory over then championship contenders Wimbledon, but that result seemed to spell the beginning of the end for thier season, with loss coming after loss, defeat after defeat, Millwall were catching up.

March again was pretty similar to February, 3 wins and 2 draws in the league, meant once more they go undefeated for the month in Division One. It included some thrilling matches the 6-2 thrashing of Playoff hopefuls Norwich, where total ownage was secured. Also the two games at Old Trafford, for once more Millwall were drawn against a premiership big boy for the Quarter of the FA Cup.

Breaking on the counter at the New Den gave Millwall a extremely good chance of stealing something from Man Utd, but it finally ended 1-1. The replay was again a close affair, but only managing to score right at the death wasnt enough for JM's boys, losing on the night 2-1.

Moving on to the final 7 games in the league, Weatherson was on fire, Osbourne was keeping the retiring Wise out of the team, Whelan was excited about moving to Blackburn at the end of the season, so much so, he was outstanding week in week out.

Two losses out of the seven really hurt Millwall's chance of automatic promotion, the complete collapse against Carnie's Cardiff, losing 5-1, was the worst result of the season. But strangely it didnt seem to effect morale in the camp, everyone was on a high, knowing that was a one-off, and full-credit to Cardiff for exploiting it.

And so the season drew to a close, Millwall one point ahead of arch-ex-London rivals Wimbledon, all that was needed was a win and the premiership beckoned for the new season. Luckily they didnt even need that with Rob Stone's side going down 4-0 and sending Millwall to Money heaven. Symbolically Millwall were also playing Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park, once the home of Wimbledon, who in Mr Monkey's own words said they had now sold out and moved abroad.

We confronted him about these strange claims:-

Rp: Firstly, congratulations on getting Millwall to the premiership, its quite a achievement.

JM: Yes, yes it is, I like to compare it to when I first learnt to walk, there was waddling at first, and falling over, which did infact hurt my bum, had to hold on to things for balance, lost a few pounds in the process, but soon it all fell into place and running about like a nutter beckoned.

Rp: Well, uh....quite. Moving on, you seem to have formed a special bond with Nottm Forest manager Dez Wilkins, whats the nature of this friendship?

JM: Its quite simple, he let me beat him both times this season when we played, and I let him win the league, give and take, give and take. Also he likes to bake cookies, dont tell him, but they are scrummy.

Rp: What are your plans for the new season? Any new faces?

JM: Well, we have a few transfers planned, Mads Timm, Ryan Garry and Guilherme, should all help bolster our squad for the new season, I'm expecting it to be tough but I know my players have grit and determination to pull it off. Would be delighted with fourth bottom next season.

Rp: I cant be arsed to speak to you anymore, have you any final words to someone.

JM: Nope.

And so he left, closing the door on the way out, very polite.

Celtic are Champions of Scotland again

Celtic have won the SPL convincingly and had a succesfull season overall. Here is the season summed up:

Bank of Scotland premier league

Celtic were top throughout the season despite sticky patches. For four months of the year, they missed Henrik Larsson, but the rest of the strikeforce, and Larsson's deputy Shaun Maloney, made sure he was not missed goals-wise.

Manager Anthony Donnachie built up a 9 point lead at the top with 5 games to go and with the league sewn up,and went to scout for fresh talent for next years assault on the champions league, and left his backroom staff in charge for the 5 games that remained. They managed NOT to win any of the games but Celtic still won the league by 3 points.

UEFA Champions league

Celtic had a very succesful champions league campaign last year, both financially and on the park. They finished top of a group that contained Manchester united and Galatasaray, and made a lot of money for the club through TV money and revenue. They were then drawn against Marseille in the 2nd round and lost 1-0 in the first leg at the Veledrome, but won 3-1 in the second leg at parkhead, progressing with a 3-2 aggregate score.Next up was Abramovich's Chelsea, first leg at the bridge.1-0 was the score, even though Celtic went down to ten men early on,and were forced to revert to a defensive formation. At Parkhead,Celtic won 1-0 with 90 minutes of domination, and it went into extra time.Chelsea dramatically snatched a goal and won on the away goal ruling at the end of time.

CIS insurance cup

Celtic went out in the quarter final stage to second division leaders Morton.Celtic fielded a weakened team but nevertheless, lost the penalty shootout, and deserved to lose, albeit so cruelly.

Tennents Scottish cup

Celtic flew through the rounds, and then met Hibs in the semi-final of the cup.Hibs got the goal against a high-flying Celtic team, and were the deserved winners.Hibs eventually won the cup.

Celtic Fans' player of the year-Alan Thompson

Top Goalscorer-Henrik Larsson-20 goals

Chris Sutton-19 goals

Shaun Maloney-12 goals

Finally,an interview with Celtic manager Anthony Donnachie:

Reporter-Anthony,how do you feel at this moment in time

Anthony-I'm ecstatic. We have won the league and triumphed,in my opinion,in the Champions league.Despite not winning the league cup,or Scottish cup,I feel we have acheived succes over the season.

Reporter-Who do you feel was the best player for you?

Anthony-EVERY player deserves credit, but Stillian Petrov continually scored when others didnt, winning games for us,and was a major success in midfield.Henrik Larsson was also at his best and was our top goalscorer, despite being out for four months.I feel Bobo Balde was sensational at the back, and he will be a key player next year.

Reporter-speaking of next year, what are your aspirations?

Anthony-I hope to get to ,at least, the quarter finals of the Champions league again, and we hope to win the league. The Celtic board have given me a fair budget, but it will have to be much higher next year,or I may look elsewhere for a real crack at the champions league

Reporter-Are you saying you'll leave if you dont get oney?

Anthony-It depends on how good I do with my current squad, and how much money I feel I need next year.It will take,at least,a regular european team,to prise me away anyway.

Reporter-Thank you and I wish you all the best next year

Anthony-Thank you

More updates next season

A must win game for both sides, it was very cagey for the first 20 or so minutes, neither side willing to give much away until a routine throw in, just inside the WBA half, Davey Oyen took the throw down the line to Andy Reid, The Forest winger flicked the ball inside, into the path of Andy Johnson. AJ took the ball in his stride and advanced into the penalty area. A low drive at Hoult's near post was parried, but the rebound fell to the Forest striker's feet. He fired home into the far corner. Forest led. The game resumed its cagey to-ing and fro-ing. Again neither side wanting to give much away. The last ten minutes of the game saw WBA adopt a 'now or never' approach as they went forward in search of an equaliser. The home side, down to ten men as a result of his 49th minute push on Andy Reid, pushed forward. A long punted kick from Hould was flicked on by Jason Koumas, into the path of Lee Hughes. Hughes slotted home at the 2nd attempt. It was 1-1. That might have been a fair way for the game to end, but the cisitors had differet ideas. They surged down the other end, winning a corner. In the ensuing confusion in the box the ball dropped to Rugrat who managed to turn and and get a shot away that found the back of the net with virtually the last kick of the game. The teenaged sensation had scored his first league goal of the season and Forest took all three points that afternoon.

Charlton proved to be too strong for the Nationwide outfit. The two goals from Charlton's Kevin Lisbie signified the difference on the day. Forest manager Wilkins spoke of how his side froze on the premiership side's ground. He congratulated Charlton on a very disciplined performance that had ensured they were worthy winners. The big adventure was over almost as soon as it had began for the Reds.

With Marlon Harewood sidelined it fell to Danny Invincible to partner DJ up front. The Australian-Jamaican partnership was too much for a crewe side lacking the strength to cope at the back. Another convincing result was witnessed by a lower than average City Ground crowd in this midweek fixture.

It was expected that that Burnley would suffer yet another defeat, in a league campaign that has gone from bad to worse for the lancashire side, when Forest came to town. Invincible carried on his spell in the first team with yet another goal. Heading home at the near post from an Oliveira corner. Burnley had the best of the chances in the remainder of the game, but luck, like much of the rest of the season, deserted them. Forest were lucky to come away with the three points, but thats what its all about, isn't it? Digging out results when the game isn't going your way.

Cardiff manager Mike Carnie talked the talk before the match and all though they put up a sterling defensive display, they did little to convince us here at Forest Focus that they could be considered real title contenders. They defended well, but for many it was just a matter of time before the chance count would take its toll on the Ninian Park side, this didn't happen, despite numerous openings for the cisitors. The points were shared.

The top two met in what could be a crucial game, level on points at the start of the evening. All eyes were on the City Ground. The match had been rearranged from the 14th of Feb due to Wimbledon's participation in the FA Cup 5th round. A small turn out witnessed a close game with few real chances. Forest always looked in control from the off. On 14 minutes, a poor goal kick from the Don's keeper put the visitors in trouble when the defence failed to tidy up. The ball was played short back to the keeper, but before Heald could clear the Chorley back pass, Danny Invincible chased in between the defender and keeper and slotted the ball home. Other than that moment the tie was mainly fought out in midfield, few real chances were created. And so, as the final whistle blew, The points were in the bag, Forest were top of the table by 3 clear points.

Ziggy Zigson's Sheffield side went into this game on the back of some mixed results. The week before they had triumphed against then league leaders, Wimbledon, but only a couple of games before that had seen themselves throw points away against relegation contenders, Burnley. David johnson's saved penalty on the quarter hour might have given hope to the Bramall Lane outfit, thankfully they couldn't capitalise on the oppertunity to take control of the game. While The Reds goal was somewhat fortuitous, it was yet another sign that we were watching potential champions at work. Michael Stewart hit a low, long range effort at the Blades goal. it deflected off a defender on its way to goal, this directed the ball away from the keeper and onto the post. DJ as always, was in the right place at the right time to tap the ball home from two yards. The sides were evenly matched throughout the remainder of the game, but Our Nottingham side seemed to have that little extra needed to stave off any of United's attacks.

Having seen the unbeaten run come to an end 3 weeks before they met Millwall for the second time this season, Forest faithfull were unable to look at this game as revenge over the last side to beat them, instead they were just looking at as revenge. A closely contested game that meant a great deal toboth sides, For Forest it was to help them edge their way closer to the dream of the league championship, it was a similar story for Millwall too. Having leap-frogged the flailing Wimbledon, they now held 2nd, also an automatic promotion spot, 9 points behind us. A win would put then just 2 wins behind The Reds going into the final 4 games. And a win was what they got. Edging in front from a near post weatherson header in the 8th minute. 20 minutes later and Michael Stewart speculative effort was deflected, sending the Millwall keeper the wrong way. The keeper could only stand and stare, stranded as the ball trickled over the line. The deflection had taken all the power off the shot, so much so that it only just managed to keep momentum and cross the lime. Millwall heads didn't go down and were back infront two minutes later. Gareth Sweeney pouncing on a fumbled ball by keeper Stekelenberg, who being slow to recover, allowed Sweeney the easy chance to fire home. This was a game full of chances, totally different to when the two sides first met, back in December. No more goals were scored though, so once again the side form South-East London took all 3 points. The title race wasn't over yet.

Championes.... Championes....

Thats right, while others around were loosing their heads, Wilkins and our troops in Red kept their's. The Red army was heading into the premiership once again. Just like 1998 we are going back to the big time as Division One Champions. Despite a late surge from Millwall, we ran out winners by 8 clear points. "We owe a lot to our travelling support" boasted Wilkins. And indeed our fans have been fantastic, all must have played a big part in helping Forest away from home. At the City Ground the results had bee respectabley good. Away from home though, Forest only lost twice and in Wilkins' eyes it is this that has helped them win the league. "We knew we would be hard to beat at home, which we were. We may have lost five times there, but fourteen wins meant we weren't giving many teams points to take on their trip home". Away from home was even better, "Yes indeed. On our travels we only failed to take something from the game twice, once was early on in the season, Away to Norwich City and the other was in December away to Millwall.". When asked about fellow automatic promotion place Millwall, Wilkins had this to say, "Ah yes, the Cheeky Monkey... Yes, he has installed a work horse ethic into his er... work-horse like side, Only team to take maximum 6 points from us this season. He's got himself and his side promoted through sheer determination and I believe he has already started adding new faces to the side in preparation for the Premiership campaign. I wish him all the best, but... and this is a big but. I cincerely hope the allegations that have been flying around about hime are untrue. I'm as baffled as the next man as to how he managed it, but if the Home Office don't object well, we can't really do anything about it, can we?" He was of course talking about the imminaent arrival of Brazilian Guilherme at the New Den. The 30 year old has only been capped 7 times by his national side, and under the footballing laws for Non-EU sides is not normally considered enough to be entitled to a work permit, something that has raised a few eye-brows around the country. "30 years old and capped 7 times?? Not really falling into the 'player of exceptional talent' category, if you ask me. But. hey, I'm not part of the commitee that hands out Work permitts so I can only guess at went on at the hearing."

When asked about any new faces arriving at The City Ground, the gaffer was cagey. "Well you all know Richie Partridge has joined the ranks already this summer. This will give Andy (Andy Reid) something to think about. He had no competition for his position last season. Now in the top flight I feel the squad certainly needed bolstering in that department.". Will he be dipping into the transfer market any further? Over to Wilkins for and heads up about future signings. "Well Michael (Michael Stewart) has gone back to Manchester so we are definitely short in that area at the moment, also with the big man (Moarten Stekelenberg) returning to Ajax after his loan spell last season, we need t olook at bringing in a defensive minded midfielder and possibly another Goalkeeper, there's plenty of time till the season starts for us to look at these areas. It possibly won't be permanant deals, more likely loaning someone in on similar terms to last season," Wilkins was reluctant to name names although he did hint that some deals were already on the tables.

All eyes in Nottingham are on the coming season, Can Forest stay up? Will the Premiership be too much for them? Or Can they go on to achieve bigger and better things in the coming season's????? As always your favourite Forest Focus will be no more than a step behind, bringing you all the news at and when it happens.

Watford down but proud

Despite battling to the very end, Watford have been relegated from Division 1. There fate was confirmed after an own goal meant there was a defeat in there last game of the season against already relegated Gillingham.

They have already begun to prepare for division 2 by putting up Marcus Gayle on the transfer list for financial reasons. It was reported that Danny Webber would also be on his way, but he has signed a new contract with the club and has reportedly taken a large decrease in his wages. Fans hope that many players follow suit as the club battles against administration. Magenger Rich has told repoerters that "He does not intend to sell his best players", however he added that "Every player has their price".

Fans were unsure about there managers future but he has confirmed that he won't be going anywhere and has vowed to get Watford "Back where they belong". Altough he has confirmed that he does not have the funds to bring any new players to the club.

Roll out the barrels....

Journalists gathered at the Boleyn Ground as West Ham United unveiled Matthew Kingston as there new manager. At the press conference Kingston expressed his desire to return the club to the top flight but his immediate concern would be addressing the huge wage bill.

Fans outside the ground indicated they were pleased a local(ish) lad had been appointed but more than a few questioned the decision to bring in someone with so little experience. Time as always will tell.

Preston NE - the season review and the future

The season started very badly. Couple of stupid losses in the league and out of the Carling cup in the first round. No money to spend, no quick fix for the relegation battle. PNE made one good move and they loaned Chris Bart-Williams from Charlton. He was the backbone of the midfield for the rest of the season. The acquisition of Bart-Williams and Ricardo Fullers coming back from the injury list were the turning points of the season. Fuller played well together with Richard Creswell in the attack. Preston strengthened the defense by bringing Matthew Killgallon from Leeds. “Killy†and Chris Lucketti were unpassable in the latter part of the season. With out the fumble early in the season Preston would have challenged the play-off spot. The season was capped by a great run in the FA Cup. Bolton, Charlton and Tottenham had no answer to Preston. Manure was too good in the final, but Preston secured a place in the Uefa Cup for the following season.

What will the future bring for PNE? The aim is to achieve promotion of course. European competition is a big plus but the nationwide will come first. Preston needs couple of new players because in the last season the team wasn’t wide enough and injuries really hurt the team. Defense and midfield are the key points were re-enforcements are needed. It’s going to be a busy summer ahead.

WBA do we have what it takes to challenge for the title...

The squad looks ok, only 1 player is "missing"; Neil Clement the left back, sold to Blackburn for 600k. That leave me very short on the left side, so i need to bring in a LB and DML before the new season, but loan deals should solve those problems. Finances are ok at the moment but i am well above my wage limit, so i might offload a couple of the high earners, to avoid red numbers in the future.

Looking forward to my 1st season, but i am not to confident with the bord expectations; challenge for the title is a though 1 with so many good managers around.
