anagain
Are there different graphics that may show on the hoardings in the game? The reason I ask is that when I first played FM09 I was getting hoardings advertising SI, SEGA etc. Recently I am getting something else. It almost looks like the Virgin sign. Are these normal hoardings? The ones in the screenie only started showing within the last few months of my game. The only thing that I have done is turn off the sky and turn off the hyperlinks from 9.2.0.

anagain
Oh, I wasn't asking for new hoardings. I was just curious why mine had suddenly changed from the normal SI/SEGA ones. I guessing that since no one went 'eh, that looks dodgy' that mine are fine, and just a different design. I looked through the FM folder and couldn't find any hoardings. I am tempted to get new hoardings now. Some of them look really well done.
Guest mikeytwigge
bcause its in game advertising . So you can sometimes get new ones via the internet for example this virgin one
stvndysn
the virgin hoardings he shows arent downloaded of net they seemed to appear after playing so long
Hamselv
the virgin hoardings he shows arent downloaded of net they seemed to appear after playing so long They are downloaded from the net, not by the user, but by the adware included in FM09. The game will transmit info to a third party adware company about where you live, how long time you spend on each gaming session and a few other things. Then based on that info the game will automatically download ads they think will appeal to you.

No it Doesnt You shouldnt talk about things unless you know Its hardly adware as its built into the game to try and make money for SI and the companys that have there sponsership in the game. I havent seen any as yet but have installed the above mentioned pack and am enjoying this new dimension to the game.
ftg87
if fm09 has adware in it then there would be no chance of me ever buying the game ever again. for that reason i don't agree with you, mainly as you didnt have any part in the making of the game, so you dont really know do you. Now if SI could confirm this It's not adware, as adware is, often, essentially spyware as it is often downloaded without your knowledge and throws up pop ups to try to make you buy their products The hoardings in FM are in game advertising, something quite different
stvndysn
sorry ftg just deleted my last post after reading through the link huwfleet provided. So that got me thinking that virgin are busy in the OP area and using adverts like that get your attention. i know what adware is dude i suffer from it sometimes i may/may not have an idea how we may stop it. In the fm.xml for hoardings there are a few lines as shown below <record> <!-- this is the default ad that will be displayed whenever the code fails to find the ad it is supposed to show, shouldn't ever really happen, but it is here as a fall back option --> <list id="default_value"> <record> <string id="path" value="pictures/ads/default/fm live"/> <string id="url" value="http://www.footballmanagerlive.com"/> </record> <record> <string id="path" value="pictures/ads/122-sigames"/> <string id="url" value="http://community.sigames.com/showthread.php?t=65036"/> </record> <record> <string id="path" value="pictures/ads/default/fm"/> <string id="url" value="http://www.footballmanager.com"/> </record> <record> <string id="path" value="pictures/ads/default/gamesaid"/> <string id="url" value="http://www.gamesaid.org"/> </record> <record> <string id="path" value="pictures/ads/default/kickitout"/> <string id="url" value="http://www.kickitout.org"/> </record> <record> <string id="path" value="pictures/ads/default/sega"/> <string id="url" value="http://www.sega.com"/> </record> <record> <string id="path" value="pictures/ads/default/si"/> <string id="url" value="http://www.sigames.com"/> </record> <record> <string id="path" value="pictures/ads/default/sigames"/> <string id="url" value="http://www.sigames.com"/> </record> <record> <string id="path" value="pictures/ads/default/fmportal"/> <string id="url" value="http://footballmanagerportal.co.uk/forum/index.php?"/> </record> </list> so you can see there are no "virgin" boards which are clickable. and the last bit shows my home site which i put in myself as a easy get to from game. so you can actually set your own in game. Why is it that the less people know the busier they usually are at trying to lecture other people You see mate, adware is usually simply described as advertisement supported software. FM09 displays adverts to increase revenue => FM09 not only contains adware but actually is adware. Judging by your reaction I suppose you think adware = spyware, but then we're back at the "the less people know…". The adverts in FM09 is handled by a third party called "IGA Worldwide Inc.". When you install the game you agree to their privacy policy, which contains the following: Information collected through Computer GamesIGA technology delivers content and information to and from certain Internet-connected computer games that use our services. In order to select the content that is displayed during the game, IGA uses the IP address of the game players computer. IGA does not use IP addresses to ascertain any game player's identity. The IP address is used to determine the player's country or city, the game being played, the size and length of time that content is displayed within a game, and the length of a game session. This data is used to calculate the fees that are charged to third party content providers and advertisers. Aggregated statistical information such as the percentage of users playing in a particular area or the average length of a game session, may be shared with these third parties. IP addresses are retained only until the end of a game session. That's exactly what I wrote in my previous post! So, knowing that, exactly which part of what I wrote is it you find so wrong that I "shouldn’t talk unless I know". I sometimes wish that certain people around here could just for a minute snap out of their "must defend SI at any cost"-mode, and simply look at the facts they are presented. That made me laugh it's so true. Sometimes you can't say anything negative, this includes constructive criticism, without being kicked to death by the fan boys.
