Cadijk van Kaarhandel
Can someone help me with this please? I've £500 burning a hole in my pocket, I need to spend it on a new Desktop. All this ATI 9800 or Greater malarkey is double-Dutch to me, i really don't have a clue. It needs to be able to run, say, 6 countries with a dozen leagues. I'd like the machine to still be capable of running FM2011 or so, so thats a consideration. Please help me cos i need you to!
Guest PW
So many machines out there mate to choose from that would be hard to recommend one in particular. Main thing for FM would be decent processor speed (Dual Core 2Ghz +), decent RAM (probably 2GB +) and a decent graphics card (loads to chose from). Maybe try to find a system then post it here and peeps can comment and advise.

monkeezgob
Okay thanks, howsabout this one then?http://www.ebuyer.com/product/151911 No graphic card, you'll need to find out if it's got an intergrated chipset (which I wouldn't recommend having), or if you can install your own card which you'll have to buy seperately. betterspud
For £500 you could build a pretty solid machine. Especially if you go for the 2nd/3rd tier components (ie. not the latest releases and highest spec stuff.) I just built a machine that will run FM at lightning speeds with limitless leagues etc. and also can handle all the FPS games I've thrown at it without a problem and it cost me just over £350. Best advice is to take some time to find out what you should expect for your money or trawl a few self build guides and have a go at your own rig. It's really not that difficult and there are armies of people out there to help you do it right.
Bren_D
Have a little play around with the system customiser here - http://www.overclockers.co.uk/syscon_class.php?catid=1053 For the sake of £7, 4gb of memory rather than 2gb is a good idea and any of the graphics card upgrades should run FM. If you decide to go for a Quad core with the memory update and a semi-decent graphics card you should be able to run the next few versions of FM without any hassle. Cadijk van Kaarhandel
GRAPHICS CARD 256MB ATI® Radeon™ HD 3650 graphics card Is 512 MB not the requirement?
Bren_D
Is 512 MB not the requirement? It is for memory, and FM would be painfully slow if you played it on a system with 512mb, but the minimum you need for a graphics card is 128mb. Oh and a compatible card of course, but if you are buying/building a new PC you shouldn't have many problems there.
betterspud
If you really want to buy a machine that's ready built, you could do worse than trying one of the independent builders. There are loads of reputable ones out there. Check out eBay shops. Chris Waddle
If you are happy to build your own then this link can give you excellent information on how to do it. On this link they build an excellent gaming pc for £300.00 Granted, it doesn't include the monitor / mouse / keyboard, but you can obviously use the ones you already have, should you wish to do so. By doing it this way, you should get a better machine than one pre-built (and it's much more fun).
Kain
I'd highly recommend www.pcspecialist.co.uk. For around £550 including delivery, I have a quadcore 9.6Ghz processor, 4GB RAM, Windows Vista (including the disc and license, not just ready-installed like many places), 500GB hard drive, and a pretty decent all-round set-up. They also have a very helpful explanation of every single part to the PC, so you know what'll be important and what isn't. And best of all for anyone not too great with computers, everything comes set-up, so you just need to plug it in and it works, and their customer service is top notch. Cadijk van Kaarhandel
What's your opinions on Intel v. AMD? Is it worth shelling out the extra for the Intel? And how does this rank in the Gfx Card food-chain? 512MB GEFORCE 9800GTX+ PCI Express + DVI + TV-OUT
Guest PW
I think its nip and tuck between AMD and Intel, personally I went for Intel but have had AMD before without issues. The Graphics card is quite a good one and certainly should be able to cope with 3D as I have the 9600 version (1024MB though I think) and it copes fine. You could possibly get a HD4850 which is slightly cheaper but on par in peformance terms, and use the extra for an intel cpu and motherboard. They really do outshine AMD at the moment. klasing
to be honest just grab yourself a copy of custom pc, then u can build an awesome one for under £400 no probs, and still have change for a 19" widescreen tft

Guest PW
I think the price you have been quoted is fair, not sure what else you will be getting with it but the main components appear fine and should stand you in good stead for FM for a few years hopefully! daylight
Well if you just want a pre-made system at a good price you could try informatique, they have some very nice system's and very good prices, I bought a dual core "2.66 4gb ram, vista 32 bit,8800gt 512mb card at the start of the year for only 1000 euro, now that system wold cost alot less. Andy20
I just bought a top computer from PC World 2 months ago, it is a Packard Bell Imedia 2415, has a 20 inch widescreen monitor that comes with it and the computer itself is top of the range. Quad Core 6600 2.4 ghz processor with 3gb ram and 500gb hard drive, all for £499. I have FM 2007 running on it with around 47 leagues and a large database with no slow down at all which I find pretty amazing.

That is a great price for a PC of that power, I never knew Aldi sold PC's! I remember the days when people used to associated Aldi with being a cheapo store that used to sell a tin of beans for about 10p, now they sell, PC', Bikes, Widescreen TV'S etc..
