SI Staff Marc Vaughan Posted November 15, 2008 SI Staff Share Posted November 15, 2008 Snappy Gamer - 4/5 Stars http://www.snappygamer.com/2008/11/14/football-manager-handheld-2009-review-psp/ Summary: Although we’ve played every version of Football Manager since Championship Manager on the Amiga, we’ve never actually had a go at Football Manager Handheld on the PSP. Because of this, we can’t really compare it to previous versions so we’re going to be looking at it with new eyes. With the introduction of a 2D match engine this year, as featured in previous PC versions, there probably isn’t a better time to dive in. Meristation - 8/10 http://www.meristation.com/v3/des_analisis.php?pic=GEN&id=cw491207874e487&idj=cw49120628a4440&&iframe=1 Summary: Sports Interactive comes back for the fourth time to the PSP, with the greatest football manager yet. Now, we can use its new tactical options, customization options and the lovely 2D matches to enjoy the greatest experience in a handheld. Pocket Gamer - 9/10 (Gold Award - Pocket Gamer) http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/PSP/Football+Manager+Handheld+2009/review.asp?c=10193 Summary: FMH 2009 may be stat heavy and require a lot of mental concentration but if you like your football and have ever wanted to take Burton Albion from the Blue Square Conference to the Premier League (without pots of cash) then this is the perfect place to do it. Gaming Corner - 8/10 http://agamingcorner.blogspot.com/2008/12/review-football-manager-handheld-09.html Summary: The game has improved with each passing year and this is no exception yes there are a few niggling faults, but this doesn't detract from a core experience that will see you spends hours and hours pouring over it's simple text based interface. Playstation Official Magazine UK - 80/100 PSP provides the best console version of FM to date. [Christmas 2008, p.119] Wonderwallweb.com - 8/10 http://wonderwallweb.com/article-560-Football-Manager-Handheld-2009.html Summary: There is not a handheld football management game on the market that can touch this, so if you are looking for one then look no further. PSM3 Magazine UK - 81/100 Some new tricks in its locker. [issue#174, p.82]

Lukaboi
I'd give it an 8.5/10, great game Although the database is confusing, it still is a magnificent game

SI Staff Marc Vaughan Posted November 15, 2008 Author SI Staff Share Posted November 15, 2008 I'd give it an 8.5/10, great game Although the database is confusing, it still is a magnificent game Can you explain this a little more if you don't mind (that way we can hopefully ensure its less confusing next version). Lukaboi
Ok Marc, I feel that the database is confusing as say when I load England as my Main League and Scotland, Spain & Italy as my Secondary leagues, if I manage a team in say Spain like Numancia, they might only have about 10 players but if I loaded that league I would expect them to have full team and even English teams don't have all their players even though it is my main league  If I wanted England, Scotland, Spain & Italy, I'd want all the players from them leagues loaded instead of ones from Germany ect. where I am not going to manage. So I would probably like it if all the Players from England, Spain, Scotland & Italy were loaded plus a few from other leagues, but only if the Psp could handle it. Overall, good job and I'm looking forward to next year's game
SI Staff Marc Vaughan Posted November 15, 2008 Author SI Staff Share Posted November 15, 2008 Ok - thanks for the extra info Lukaboi, I'm afraid its not really feasible to have all the players from that many nations active at once on the PSP .... at least not unless my brain evolves and allows me an Eureka moment
Lukaboi
That's ok Marc, I was just hoping there would be at least a squad of 20 for each team in each nation you load instead of having 10 in one and 25 in the other
Bergkamp.10.
so far i'd give it an 8.5 out of 10 transfers dont really seem to have changed for me, well selling my players anyways

crickie
Id give it 9.4/10 and the reason it isn't 10/10 is becuase of the reason that lukaboi given to do with the database situation, apart from that it is a brill game and you should all be really proud of what you have achieved! Oh and I thought it was a decent review and well written - just so you know however, we don't 'stream off the UMD' in the game at all. The UMD drive has a huge lag time for access (which is why some games pause during play for loads etc.) and for this reason once its started FMH doesn't access the UMD at all. This means its faster to play than otherwise and also maximises the battery life on the PSP (as thats the other big drain with using the UMD). Finally its not possible to utilise the memory stick to extend the game database because its access speed, while quicker than the UMD's is still far to slow to use as virtual memory. Ok thanks for letting me know, like I said in the review I was just speculating about it...I wasn't trying to suggest I knew more about the hardware (not chance!) I was just saying how if it was possible it could be done...

arsenal_2111
It is easier to use than the FMPC. It would be much better on PSP Touchscreen though, if they ever made one.
