Specialist Roles

Recommended Posts

I'm looking to build a system around some of the specialist roles I've never used before. Problem is there is quite a lot of them! Trying to get some inspiration for a tactic, not for any particular team, so I'll end up basing it around a couple of these.

For each of these, what sort of system do they tend to suit?

Regista - pressing, possession based?

Defensive forward

Shadow Striker

Mezalla

Carrilero

Ramdeuter

Segundo Volante

Roaming Playmaker

The new roles are covered here;

As for the others you listed, they tend to fit all systems and styles really. It really does come down to how the role fits with the roles around them and what it offers the team.

That question is impossible... there are more caveats to that than there are grains of sand in the Sahara.

I'd start by having some fun seeing exactly what each role does. You can either go Big Bang and use lots at once, or slowly slowly catchy monkey by just introducing one or two into a setup you are familiar with.

----------------------------

One way could be... (and I'm not suggesting this would have any success)

Deep runs from Libero and Segundo Volante, IWB causing havoc cutting in, CWB roaming and bombing on... Mezala's moving to channels. Reg or RPM drifting forward picking out the runners, F9 dropping deep hopefully taking a marker or two with him to allow the runners to break beyond.

You'd probably need a slow build up with short passing to allow time for deep players to make their runs.

Have you tried that system? :D

Unfortunately not... in previous FMs I always tried one 'break the system' tactic - not really to exploit... but to generate 'chaos'.

In seriousness the softly softly approach is far more rewarding, if you can find that special player who can be a Libero/RMD/SV etc, in an otherwise orthodox system, and make it work as intended... it's almost orgasmic! The big bang approach is fun in the short term, but essentially if it meets quick success it feels like exploit, if it meets abject failure then there isn't enough data to tweak (as specialist roles have more built in PIs, and often more 'necessary' conditions).

Thank you for the responses! I think I'm just going to slowly try and integrate some of the roles in my tactic to give them a go.

For example, how does a Ramdeuter compare to an Inside Forward on Attack? That's one switch I may try
